This is the scariest verse: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. ’Hello Jarvis, I don't know how you mean this passage. I only write this because many believers have been told that this could apply to believers who have fallen away. I just want to clarify this has nothing to do with believers in Jesus.
Many misquote this verse but let's look at why this is not about believers.
Jesus says here, Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?
Matthew 10:1-4 says "And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him."
Notice in this passage that Judas was also given these powers and yet as far as we know never believed in Jesus.
Later on in Matthew 16 is Peter asked who people says Jesus is,
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven."
This seems to indicate that the other disciples might not have yet believed in Jesus yet they had been given power to do these incredible things.
This verse applies to those God has given these gifts for His glory even though they may have never believed in Jesus.
Jesus is eternal and when He says "I never knew you" it means that someone has never known or believed in Him. It isn't about a believer who once believed but fell away.
There will be those who will hold up their gifts as evidence of faith but Jesus will say I never knew you and those who have never believed will know they never believed in Him.
Jesus also says in John 10:25-30
25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, [e]as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.”
1 John 5 tells us exactly the deciding factor for our salvation
Verse 11-13 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has [d]life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, [e]and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
I hope that those who believe in Jesus who have been told to be afraid of this passage are given peace and hope that it is not meant for them.
Take care. May the Lord Bless you and keep you until He comes.

I wrote about how I am convinced we are mistakingly defining sin as Morality when SIN is what we do to bring death to others. To me so many of our Pastors and Teachers today Sin against God by causing believers (and non-believers) to die a little by leaving them in fear they might go to Hell if they do the wrong thing.

@@mbfrommb3699 I agree. I recall a time in which I gave an answer for my view on homosexuality and I replied saying that it doesn’t matter what someone does outside of Christ: homosexual or not, one is only condemned because of unbelief in Jesus. It isn’t until *after* someone is saved that you can even begin to talk about right behavior and even then it’s still dangerous to focus on our works. A saint isn’t anything but a forgiven sinner.

I've often pondered this verse as well. I believe it means that far too many people consider themselves "christian" just because they believe in God but have never had a personal relationship w/ Christ. They may not pray, attend church, read the bible, or even believe that the stories in the bible are true. After all, people don't resurrect after death and ascend to heaven. To be a christian is to put faith in our lord Jesus Christ. To believe He shed his blood to wash our sins away, was placed in a tomb and was resurrected three days later to ascend to heaven to the right hand of God. Jesus IS God - 1/3 of the Holy Trinity. There's more to just claiming to be a christian just because you live a virtuous life and are kind. Just think of how many people are on this earth. Think about how many die everyday not trusting or believing God's word is the truth, life and only way to heaven. It's mind boggling and sad.

Matthew 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
First of all, let’s look at the context. Jesus was talking about false prophets:
Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?
How can we know false prophets? They teach mixture. Thorn bushes and thistles stand for dead works and curses, that did not receive the grace of God (Genesis 3:18-19). In what other way can we identify a false prophet?
Deuteronomy 13:1-3 If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’-which you have not known-‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
As you know, there are many people claiming to know Jesus, and claiming to follow Him, but often, after investigation, you see they are either false prophets or false converts (Matthew 13:24-30). A false convert may visit church service, may profess Jesus, may do good works, but they were never born of God (John 3:3; 1 John 5:5). The same goes for the false prophets. They seem to have good intentions, but they will always teach mixture or point to another god or another version of God.
If we take a look back to Matthew 7:21, it claims that only those who do THE WILL of the Father will enter heaven. What is the will of the Father?
John 6:39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Now we know the Father’s will is to see the Son and believe in Him. (Notice it doesn’t mention be perfect, don’t sin. It is only to see Jesus for who He is and to believe, because only Christ is righteous, and we need that righteousness for ourselves.)
If we read Matthew 7:22, we get the impression that they were able to cast out demons and do wonders. KEY word, they will SAY they did those things. Jesus doesn’t say they did, they themselves tell Jesus that they did. Some people can do certain miracles with demonic power or trickery (Acts 8:9-11). Often these people believe it is from God, but in reality, it's not. It's always for self-glorification, while the Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus. Also notice the next verse:
Mark 9:38 Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”
Key part: he didn't follow Jesus. Jesus’ sheep follow Him. Maybe this man was doing it for personal gain? Profits? The wrong reasons? There are different options. Let’s continue.
In Matthew 7:23, Jesus says: “I NEVER knew you; …” This is also very important and refutes losing salvation in this context. When you get saved, Jesus knows you. Therefore, He cannot claim He never knew the person. If that were true, He would have said “I ONCE knew you; …”, or “I know you NO MORE; …". Read the following verses:
John 10:26-30: But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”
Jesus states: "I KNOW THEM". And who are the sheep? Those that BELIEVE and FOLLOW (His commandments 1 John 3:23; not to be mistaken with the ten commandments). Now we know, he is talking to people who were never His. That is why at the end, they are called workers of lawlessness, because they did NOT have a perfect sacrifice for sins, and therefore, are still in their sin.

I have to say, even as a christian, I sin an awful lot. I have come a long way in some respects but there would be some religious that would say I'm not obedient. In truth though, year after year, Jesus speaks wisdom and love to me at my worst most human and evil moments and slowly but surely He tenderly helps me to obey in those moments. Not with everything, some things I'm not putting down just yet.. but I can't help but listen sometimes because He is so sweet and gentle. He's not as scary as people make Him out to be. I respect his mysterious overwhelming compassion to the point where I obey because I want to. Not because I'm scared of His wrath and punishment, but because He loves me in my worst moments. If He loves me no matter what and I am saved forever because He sought/seeks me out then how could I not trust Him? I'm not concerned with how much I obey Jesus or love Jesus. I'm just absolutely blown away at how much He cares and loves me.. the focus is becoming less about what I look like to others and more about how incredibly loving, forgiving, compassionate, just, protective and nurturing God is to me and even to the people all around me. Personally, one of the scariest verses for me is found in Mathew 7:21-23, "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’"
I am so worried that every decision made is the wrong one, or I missed an opportunity/divine appointment, or have fear of speaking up when I should, etc. The great commission is such a heavy burden when we sit back and think about it. Looking at the early church and what the apostles accomplished and then reflecting on modern living with our first world problems while the body of Christ is persecuted overseas. In the first world, we have so much comfort and much of the church is lazy, and for what? To sit in the comfort of our homes with a new car payment, credit cards, and a big mac in our lap?
We should all be headed out into the world proclaiming the gospel message, leaving comfort behind for the sake of others. We as a whole have gotten too complacent. This includes me, something I have known for several years. One of the minor issues is that majority of ministries require you to be debt-free or have a sustainable plan with enough support raised back home. The numbers are unrealistic for someone like me with a sickly wife and two kids. Many organization require a degree in biblical studies and even then that may not be enough, what is the issue? The church as an institution is not preparing, cultivating, replicating, and disciple believers with the knowledge and support needed to head out into the world. This needs to start locally. Yes, I said this at my bible college and got into TONS of trouble for saying what was just typed out. Very discouraging!!! Why!? Because they are complacent and comfortable where they are. It is easy.
    God is Love.

But where are those who've DONE AWAY with God's commands? LAWLESS? Is this the great DECEPTION? The enemy deceiving everyone into rebelling against God's Laws?

When you read that verse, think of people like Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, Jesse Duplantis. See those are the people who will being saying Lord Lord. The greatest commandment in the Bible is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, strength and mind and love your neighbor as yourself. If we aren't reaching our Bible daily and praying and worshipping Christ, then how can He know us? I used to get very panicked about that verse too, but I prayed to God one day and said I will stay close to you and your truths and have a personal relationship with you. That's my continual prayer for myself. It gave me such comfort to know He WANTS to know me. God Bless!

Jesus isn’t going to say this to you because of something’s you did or failed to do, this verse is talking about how they trusted fully or partially in their works to save them, hence how their saying “didn’t we DO this and this and this” Jesus isn’t impress with our works.
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
      ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭64:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬
      ----------
We enter in through the narrow gate (Jesus) by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, trusting that he paid 100% of our debt on the cross, and if he paid 100% then how much is left for you to pay? None.
He calls us to rest, and to grow within his grace and trust that he will mold us into whom he predestined is to be through the guidance of his Holy Spirit.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
      ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬
Accept the gift (placing your faith in the FINISHED redemptive work if Jesus, his death, burial, resurrection for the remission of all your sins past present and future) and grow. He paid for you entry to heaven so why would he reject you for anything you didn’t do? That’s not love.
“As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

Where is this stated? Thirteen is the most common age suggested for the age of accountability, based on the Jewish custom that a child becomes an adult at the age of 13. However, the Bible gives no direct support by my knowledge. Some believe the age of accountability could have been around 20 years old because this was the age when young men in Israel became accountable to serve in the army of Israel. "So all those listed of the people of Israel, by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, every man able to go to war in Israel" Numbers 1:45 and 2 Chronicles 25:5-6. But you could say when a boy becomes 13 years old, doing his bar mitzvah, is a age of accountability as well.

@@kongstrong1938 sure, if you want to go by OT law. How often do you sacrifice, goats, lambs and turtles on an alter for the sin of wearing mixed fabrics?
20 was the minimum age for making sacrifices because that's about the age one would have moved from home, found a wife, had kids, and started a life of their own away from their parents. They would actually have things to offer.
We don't live under the OT laws, we live under grace. Which means when we sin, all we have to do is confess to God and repent and we are forgiven. But if someone doesn't know any better, they're not held responsible. It's the same reason we don't take toddlers to court over assault or theft. That's right about when you start to make just a little sense of things, you start to discover that there are people with needs besides yourself, it's the time where you are most impressionable, and you trust what the adults around spoon feeds you, 100% for everything. Let me guess, you didn't just walk into a church on your own at age 4 because God called. How old were you when the "Santa isn't real" train hit you?

To the naysayers: you should not judge when he was called, because _you_ just don't know; that's a matter known only between themselves and God. As for myself, I don't know, although the human side of me would be led to think that's too early for such mental development. However, we are talking about God here, and how he works. Don't take away from God, just to suit yourselves. If this really is all just a tall tale, trust that God will handle the matter. But speaking of "scary verses", do not blaspheme the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31), because if the Spirit is responsible for his calling, then by your disbelief you are blaspheming the Spirit, because you doubt this work originated with God. So it's best just to accept what this person has said, for only they and God know the truth of it, and it should be left at that.

Maybe God withholds Himself from being visible all the time because the judgement would be more severe..if He did so. For those who have not seen...the judgement may be less...than those who have seen. Even Jesus said, "Blessed are those who believe and have not seen." If God made Himself visible to everyone...many would still refuse to believe(must have seen things, I need a cat scan, etc) and the judgement would be more severe.
