I was just about to open RUclips and write a warning about that. Saw I had one of these fake comments from "your" channel. You should think that most people are aware of it by now, its been a big problem on RUclips for a while. But is better to be safe then sorry

for the heads up here. yes, beware of scams especially aimed

This is going on all over YT and they have, so far as I can tell, done absolutely nothing to stop it.
I get this on almost every channel I follow as soon as I make a comment.
This is coming from Chinese scammers and one thing you will always see is that they use Telegram, which is a CCP owned socialist platform.
You mean I didn't just buy ocean front property in Wyoming with a complementary bridge and a free iPhone 16? Aw schucks!
I love how these projects are done with both the most and the least money at the same time.
All the best projects are. I love finding pointless and needlessly expensive ways to solve problems better people than me solved years ago. A £5 left handed digital flange grommet off eBay? Pah! Where's the fun in that when I can spend £100 and six months of profanity and kicking the dog* to make something that's objectively worse?

This is turning out to be the most interesting Frankencar you made so far 🙂 Can't wait to see it running!
Frankenstein's monster was a construct of various parts from multiple sources of human origins.
A frankencar would thusly only be so-named if its origins were all "car"-esque or at least vehicular. This car build includes parts from non-vehicular sources so it's not a frankencar.

That sounds like a blast

My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others. Come to think of it, why do we have to wait for Christmas to do that?
Your channel reminds me of back in the 1960s, when hotrodders would do crazy things, like putting a Ford V8 in the front of a Volvo, or putting a 2 L Volvo motor in the front of an MGTD, or installing a rotary motor into the front of an Austin Healey sprite (These are actual cars that I saw, growing up in Southern California)
hotrodding is equal parts art, engineering, and junkyard picking. a beautiful tradition that seems to be dying as cars become needlessly complex.
First thing I noticed... PLENTY of room for a turbo, and an intercooler. Also, I can't wait to see a Saturn roll coal.
I forget who said this first, but: "DIESELS are just MADE for BOOST!" (~_^)-b
You dont need to be dirty to make make power... That "coal" is wasted fuel.
@@vacuumboy6.0 Indeed it is, and a well managed high boost engine can reduce soot and increase efficient burning of the fuel significantly, especially if the fuel injection system is carefully tuned for efficiency, and it can even produce equivocally more power over a broader rpm range.
@@hunnybunnysheavymetalmusic6542 My comment had nothing to do with making power or efficiency, and I couldn't care less how dirty it is. I just said it would be cool to see a Saturn roll coal. No DPF or DEF, its going to blow SOME smoke.
@@jonathancrotts2862 Sorry that I completely misread your remarks.
On the other hand, as one who runs heavy equipment all of the time, I have gotten tired of coming home covered in soot and smelling like unburnt fuel while the cost of operating my machine is higher than it should be.
After all: in my line of work, fuel ends up being the number 1 cost, provided you do not spend all your time breaking stuff.
But yeah, it would be an eye catcher.
There is a Ford Galaxie with a 12 valve Cummins you may have seen on YT which just pours out black smoke.
incredible work and entertaining as always. Love how much room you have for future fun with this little engine. Glad more and more people are along for the ride to enjoy each week or so. Jimbo con 2023? we can all bring our clapped out saturns.
Jimbo, good news! The gas tank will handle diesel just fine. I get 2-3 cars a year with that problem. We drain the tank by running the electric gas pump in the tank then refill with gas, fuel system doesn't care. You can modify the stock sender into a fuel pickup pretty easily by gutting the pump and pressing a dip tube in it's place. Adding 16 gallons of diesel fuel will double or triple the value of that Saturn!
I appreciate the metric conversion, although on fuel economy we tend to use l/100km instead of km/l.
It is interesting to see the difference in mindset between m/g and l/100km, the former is about knowing if you can do it to the next (very far) gas station while the latter is about knowing how painful your next visit to it will be.
actually in europe we do use the km/l when calculating trip efficiency, it just depends on which one you like more
@@Marco-yk8kp I guess it depends on country, we in CZ use l/100km
@@Marco-yk8kp In most of Europe we use l/100km, only in UK and a few other places use/may use km/l. 👌
Btw, in Portugal we use l/100km.
@@Marco-yk8kp i have literally never seen anyone do that.
@@vallevaan Most of the people in the Netherlands use km/l.
Just FYI, you can buy Russell adaptor fittings for that style of clutch cylinder and use a braided line that way you can replace individual components. You can bleed it too, it's just a bit of a pain. Look up Dodge truck clutch bleeding procedures. Awesome video as always!

You need a Fiero for your ls4 dreams.
I am doing a 2.2l ecotec in a Fiero currently with a mid sized turbo, so much of your FWD content and the speeduino content is right up my alley. I'd love to be able to replicate your robo throttle one day to play with.
Hey- Robot Cantina ! Once the Kubota is fully up and running, you should try converting to run on alternate fuels! Like used motor oil, peanut oil (from deep fried Thanksgiving turkey), some used french fry oil, and well... what ever else!
Before the turbo mod, a long tube header (in the VE in the range of the RPM of the engine) should be done. You have plenty of room and it would be a fun iterative step for more testing and videos. You can design the header so that a turbo could be bolted to it later!
Does a 719cc low-rpm engine blow enough air that the resulting optimal long-tube is big enough for the cantina to be able to fabricate it affordably
So a 3 into 1 at the rear fender then? 😀

That weight is about the right territory for a Saturn. If I remember correctly the sedan was the lightest configuration for the S-series for some reason. My old SC2 coupe came in at just under 2400 lbs and it had a bunch of stuff in the trunk and on the seats when I weighed it, so I'm thinking mid-2200's is about right. Other than for acceleration events and hills the weight won't make much difference in mileage I don't think. The thing that makes these such fuel sippers is the aero. They're bottom feeders (closed off front end) and they have a low front cross-section and a low drag coefficient, so very slippery. That said, if you do weight reduction, don't take any of the plastic parts off under the front end and around the wheel wells. I took a hit on my gas mileage when I did that. It screwed up the aero quite a bit apparently. Also, don't remove the rear spoiler. That reduced my mpg as well.
Just FYI, the Harbor Freight variable speed portable band saw (item 64194) is awesome for doing things like cutting off the axle bracket, cutting angle iron, etc. It's easier to control than a grinder, quieter, doesn't fling burnt metal dust everywhere, doesn't create a heat affected zone in the metal, and it can use 44 7/8 inch porta-band blades for Morse, Lenox, and other brands in addition to HF blades. Cost is $129.99 when not on sale. The only saw that cuts metal better is the 4x6 horizontal bandsaw that everyone buys.
That clutch slave/master setup is very common. You can easily replace individual components and bleed it. It's done on a vice.
I love this channel and this projekt.
Believe me or not, as a child i sometimes played with my matchbox cars that they only have one cylinder and drive ridicolous slow. On these, there is a provision for a mechanical diesel lift pump (2bolt block off near the injection pump) tho it might not have the lobe to drive it
The engine bay with the diesel engine in it is somewhat reminiscent of cars from the seventies and earlier - at least in Australia. There is plenty of room to work on the engine! No myriad of vacuum lines, inefficient anti-pollution and no conveniences that are common place now. Make no mistake, I love modern vehicles and all the stuff in them. The down side is the modern vehicle is a DIY'ers nightmare. Having said that, I have had to upskill myself for the better re diagnostics on the control systems which I do enjoy. It is the mechanical bits that are more challenging with more components now. I am thankful I can pay a mechanic as opposed to my younger day when money was sparse.
I really hope he hooks up the heater core to the radiator or motor just for that razel dazzle so the car is super functional especially with this winter kicking it up
Sticking engines where they don't belong looks so wrong, but feels so right!
The seats are what you want to shed. All together they weigh a ton. Get 2 aluminum race seats and tarp over the back "cargo area"
The next adventure for the Saturn would be putting that LS4 in the back seat and taking it to a drag strip
For cooling I'd recommend to connect the heater core and ad a thermostat for the bigger cooler in the front just in case but especially during winter that little engine will have enough work to do heating the cabine. You got the heat and the heater core so why freeze yourself to death
Just drinking coffee, waiting to see this creation running. Curious to see what difference this diesel will make. Thanks folks and keep up the great work. 👍👍👍👍👍
Saturn shouldn't've been run in to the ground and axed like it was.
Yea, they were better cars than the car company that sold them.
Damn straight.
I’ve got a 5-speed 2000 SL1, wouldn’t trade it for anything
They’re like Lego cars; modular, easy to put together, and fun as hell to play around with
Oh yeah, and the parts are cheap as hell.
Had my engine blow at 220K, bought a used one with 91K on it for $250, and taught myself how to replace it
Also, the forums put there are a goldmine of info for nearly anything you might need to fix/maintain/mod
I’m more sad about Pontiac
You are absolutely correct. I still drive my 2002 Saturn sl2 1.9 dohc with no problems. Just maintenance. I laugh when folks tell me they spent $40,000 on a new fuel efficient car and I get 350/450 miles per tank on mine. My only complaint is doing a front hub/bering, what a job.
One of my first cats was a SL2 and I loved that car!
Can't wait to see the results once it's finished.
This is definitely one of the most beautiful sights my eyes have ever seen. That Kubota is a real looker.😍😍😍 I'm loving it. I really can appreciate how the transmission has been coupled to the Kubota. Really genius how it was done.
The Honda Insight actually win a race if the parameters were set correctly. I have seen a few other youtubers drop harbor freight engines into small cars, the most notable being one where the engine's output shaft was either welded or brazed to the input shaft of the car's transmission. I also remember a few guys who had swapped Predator engines into minitrucks, or minitruck frames using a centrifugal clutch and a chain/sprocket set connecting the clutch to the manual transmission. These vehicles were usually geared down for off-roading. I'd wager that if there was a race between predator powered stock bodied production cars and trucks, your Insight has a good chance of coming out on top.
I realize you've probably already mounted the fuel tank in the trunk. But if that particular year of saturn ran a return line, you could use the factor fuel pump and just put an elcheapo regulator in it to get it down to single digits.
Hi there Jimbo. I used to drive boats in the Navy, and we had a 165 hp volvo penta engine turbo charged. The rig could handle about 14-18 lbs of boost.
Back in k car times Chrysler initially released their turbo FWD cars with uneven length driveshafts some complained about torque steer, they added an intermediate shift and equal length shafts to help with this. My dad had figured out the uneven shafts would work on his Spirit r/t and he's been running them for 15 year now. Not sure if GM had an equivalent set up but thankfully you engeneered your way through it Jimbo, I really love this channel and tell everyone I know who is into cars and fun science experiments
Thanks for another great video. I am eager to see this thing on the road. Just for the heck of it you should make the exhaust like that on a big rig. You also might give it a ridiculous horn 😀
Are you hinting at putting an LS4 in the Saturn coupe? Overpowered and very dangerous V8 Saturn coupes sound like a fun idea.
Nicely done Mr. 60 mpg without turbo is my guesstimation. 120 mpg if you heat the fuel using exhaust manifold heat to release the btu's then available. Keep up the good work sir. It's nice to see a realistic channel.
Many thanks 😎
P.s George Wiseman is the best mpg guru I've stumbled across. Very clever man.
Hahaha, I love how ya' optimistically overlook possible set-backs with an oddly saticifyin' combitation of VGG & Fleccas podcast dry humor
Im interested in how you will make the brakes work. The little I know about the diesel engine is that they don't suck to well so there is either a vacuum pump or a convoluted hydroboost setup for the brake booster. Your builds are great and I am always looking forward to Sunday to see the next one.
Or you can just have manual non boosted brakes. Worked well enough in older cars and since this car will be quite a bit lighter, might not be that big of an issue.
manual brakes and steering. The little engine def wont like a power steering pump. Later on, he could install an electric rack from a prius and a vac pump, sourcing one from an old idi would prob be most cost effective. Or, to go even further get an electric ps pump from a newer vehicle and run hydroboost for brakes as well as having power steering.
@@hojnikb the problem with a boosted brake system is without the booster you will need both feet to use the brakes and even then you are not stopping anytime soon. I had an 82 toyota pickup that the vacuum line came off the booster and had to go in a ditch or rear end the car.
@@frostbite1991 adding a bunch of electric components will require a real alternator to run and not the little generator that is already installed. May not be to much of a problem after it is boosted but na may struggle to go down the road at speed.
@@hillonwheels8838 put a smaller bore master cylinder on and you won’t need a booster

This project reminds me of another project from over 10 years ago on YT. It's about the Ford Festive with a two-cylinder Yanmar diesel. I think there are some videos on YT.
Oh yeah, that's going to be one hell of a setup! I think the little diesel will do better than you expect, especially with the close ratio trans! Better to keep the little Kubota in its powerband. You should be able to adjust injector pump timing and fuel flow on there hopefully, because diesels seem to react quite well to minor timing advances and a hair more fuel flow! I used to be a diesel mechanic, but never worked on one as small as what you got there. Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing this sucker drive! 😎

You should try rigging it up to run on Waste Motor Oil. That'll let you run it for almost no money.
Just need to run the black stuff through a filter, a centrifuge, then another filter, and you should be set. Just remember to use two fuel tanks, and to start and stop the engine on Diesel when you're done with it.
Soon, you'll have a daily driver that has almost nothing for fuel costs, which matters in this day and age of expensive fuel.
Hey! Nice turbo! Can't wait to see it cranking out some baby boost!
Fun fact, that turbo was used in a 1.9tdi with a mechanical fuel pump that I had swapped into a VW Vanagon!
Unfortunately the owner never got around to changing the transmission to the correct final drive ratio to really make it all work together and the whole project was parted out after he blew out the original turbo. This turbo hasn't seen much use or any if I'm correct and should be good to go!

You can absolutely use the stock fuel pump to transfer fuel at a low pressure. If you look at volume vs pressure ratings of fuel pumps you'll see they move a lot of volume at lower pressure. You can put it on a switch to fill that red tank or just have a pressure relief and return line before the high pressure pump on the engine.

I think he needs to try the lawnmower carb on a V8. Apples to apples
When I swapped the 6.5 in my 99 suburban I had to modify the tank and the tank unit for diesel. I couldn't justify $250 just for a diesel specific fuel tank. To advance the timing on the kubota engines you remove the Injection pump and remove the shims.

In it's original state, just a bit over 1 ton, it's really light by modern standards. I believe that if you'd installed a modern diesel with modern ECU, that car could've got about 90-100 mpg US.
"I love it when a plan comes together.." yay !
There are some D1505 engines with a turbo, now those turbos are no bigger than your fist, so the turbo you showed is definitively too big. But I do have to say i'm curious how that will workout. Also since you are now running a diesel you won't be able to use vacuum lines to the brake booster, diesel cars often have a vacuum pump to sort that out, that will be an issue
I'm looking forward to see it on the road
Install some sick wheels and maybe even coilovers. Then gut the interior. Maybe that will get it to the desired weight
It's really nice that you wanted to convert the fuel economy to metric for us (The metric crowd), but in metric we usually use liters per 100km or l/100km as a metric for fuel economy :D

One thing to consider is diesels usually don't have the rpm range of gas and benefit from a longer great ration vs a short ratio
