Classic Game Room HD reviews TOKYO XTREME RACER 3 for the Playstation 2. Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 on PS2 is a driving/combat/strategy game where players race against rival gangs with silly names on the highways of Japan. Unlike previous games in the series, Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 has roads winding through the freeway systems of Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. They all look pretty similar though, dark with some neon on buildings. Even though TXR3 is technically a driving game the game's strength is in the competition, customization and highly addictive gameplay. Drive cars from major manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai. Win money and supercharge them with 600 hp engines and get sucked into the addiction that is Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3. Even if the game is impossible to finish (because of a glitch), for a reasonable price you'll get weeks of enjoyment and competition from this sub par driving game that is a wildly fun highway combat game. This CGR review of Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 has gameplay from the PS2 version of Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 on Playstation 2.

Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero had licensed cars. The reason why they all had different names is because each car went by their chassis code name instead of using their model names. Thats why most people are so confused when they find that their favourite cars bear a strange code name.

    • @Subsistence97
      @Subsistence97 6 лет назад +35

actually thats partially true. They went by their chassis code but were still unlicensed. If you emulate it and upscale the resolution, the badges are all slightly modified (ex: instead of Mazda RX-7, the badge would say MADDA RR7, or Olivia instead of nissan silvia)

The driving isn't nearly as bad as it seems, cars can't just turn on a dime at 150 mph in real life.
This game is incredibly in depth not only in the tuning aspect but the game it's self. Being able to to race certain cars on certain days or certain directions, changing weather, water and oil temp to monitor (unlike other games), and the infamous wanderers, which can only be raced under certain conditions.
This game was fantastic and i can only hope they make a reincarnation of it

The driving is awful. The cars handle like utter ass...just absolutely slippery all the time, almost like drift cars I suppose. But it's still fun, and addictive, particularly if you love jdm cars, not to mention rpg elements of unlocking better parts for your car and boss and super boss battles in car forms. Id say this game influenced me in real life nearly 20 years later my real life daily is a clean jdm (rhd) 1994 MR2 GT-S that I had imported from Japan. And he's right speed is everything, hp/weight, brakes aren't particularly important compared to those.

If you play this on ps2 emu with the wheel mod plugin, and a Logitech wheel (dfp or g25-7), you can erase the dead zone and have more fun than on gt4. This game handles like wangan midnight (without the annoying card system and almost undriftable handling).

@@sasukeuchihaanbucapt okay so bright coloured cars were a huge thing in both american street racing and JDM highway racing, you claim its "far from it actually" even though they literally share some devs and objectively have similar handling and are both JDM highway racers
also the fact you say "They copied the initial D game on ps2 and changed the name" just shows you know nothing about what your talking about they have completely different handling and one is a highway racer (LIKE WANGAN MIDNIGHT) and the other is mountain racing or Touge racing

I got this game because of this review and I've gotta thank CGR for that. The whole soap with lead blocks thing is the best way to describe it once you've played it. It take quite a while, but it was just so addicting. Though I would say the wanderer racers condition to race them are so insane, you need a guide just to figure out how to get to them. I love it all the same though, and I wish I could see a true sequel. Thanks CGR for the recommendation.

actually... those silly names on the cars actually do exist... this is a replica of how Japanese races in "JAPAN" and the names on the car are actually what Japanese calls it... they don't say Honda NSX or Toyota Supra or Nissan GTR... They call the car by its body style... by that meaning they call the car by its serial number of the body style... just wanted to add that into the comment so viewers who doesn't know about this can have a bit of more insight...

Hey man, you can finish tokyo extreme racer 3 i did, you have to beat all wanderes...but heres the tricky part... you have to have "certain" parts on your car for wanderes to appear out of no where, Like a certain rim, certain liscence plate number, or for example being in a old mazda while it's raining ...and so on, Theres a active guide and forum on people who finished this game..
Also if you check the rivals profile gives you a clue to what you need to do for your car so you can race them.

Are all the highways one-way or are they driving on the wrong side of the road (for Japan)? The FMV has them driving correctly but I can't tell in-game. Localization perhaps?

U need to play this car more like a sim, to follow the right lines, and power out faster without hitting walls. it's an awesome line between sim and arcade.
btw you should just pop the lid after a race and leave the game off. glitch lets your mileage goes up, and you get engine swaps after 1200 m.

@TheRacedriver92 Well, the cheesy techno is in Nagoya, which isn't even shown in this particular video. See some of NailStrafer's Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 videos if you want to see here some cheesy japanes high speed techno.

My only issue with this game, was once you beat everyone, they only gave you something like 500 Cr.
