Y'know the game is really good tbh, but the bg flaw has to be yeah, the drift physics, or just crash physics aswell. Many times when i hit the outer walls my car ended up being a guardrail eating magnet, like it was a torturous experience, but i did all the events besides this one i forgot where, beat all the guys and leave Team Top Secret the last, to make the legend Smoky feel like the Final Boss of the game.

I remember wanting to get this game so badly when I was 12. When I got it, it was one of the coolest racing games I've ever played. I had it on the PSP since I didn't have a PS2.
I'm so glad you found this game! I loved the in depth mechanics and customization with the cars in it, and the only complaint I've ever had was the lack of punishment with damages on the vehicles. But overall, this and the arcade cabinet game of the same name are some of my favorite racers.
I really loved this game. I had the PSP version. I spent hours painting and tuning cars. It's a shame it got such poor reviews when it came out. This game is a hidden gem much like the TXR series.
i grew up with that game even playing online was fun but learning how to properly drift with all the diferent styles that give you more points was really hard. It suprises me that some people still remember this great game. (in my opinion it might be nostalgia too)
I highly recommend Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, I consider it to be the best in the main series as a whole. Even though TXR3 may look better and has more tracks, Zero has more cars, better physics and better opponents (partly due to the physics in 3 also negatively affecting the opponent racers as they can't handle it) I also recommend Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2, part of the Drift sub series. If the main series is Shuto Expressway racing, then the Drift series is Touge racing. All those games above have really indepth customisation and even tuning mechanics that allows you to finetune the car mechanics which is uncommon for an arcade.
I'm still trying to digest this thumbnail. Am I the only one that thinks it looks almost like CG, but also looks like a movie screengrab at the same time? (I know the face is edited. I mean everything else, like the arms and the inside of the Civic.)
THANK YOU for bringing more attention to this game, I got it from a garage sale when I was like 7 and I didn’t have a save card for my ps2 so I would restart everyday and on vacations I would beat it completely and restart the next day

Name a game that has more and or better customization on ps2. Honestly it may have some of the best import tuning parts of ANY GAME. It's makes a jdm fan nerd alllll the way out.
If you're after an interesting Japanese Racing game, I recommend checking out "Racing Lagoon". Apparently unlike other racing games, it has RPG elements and the open world aspect of it where you flash your lights to start races does show it helped inspire the Midnight Club series
When I first played the game I would spent like 30 minutes to an hour after races learning the drift mechanics and I found out when you do the drift races clutch kicking was the way to go clutch kicking and and manual gears with a small Japanese car or a mustang (like no seriously a Ford mustang is a good drift car for this game) and just practice clutch kicking with those cars then go to each race and just get the feels for them in the first race then clutch kick to victory. In the race against DK I just spin him out then just drift like it was a normal race against the other drifters
@@goose8447 I didn't have any driving assist on. You get full control of your car at the start dude I know this because I own the game and it's still With me. I 100% it and I played it recently there is no driving assist

I made special liveries, and I copied liveries of the AI cars by memory I miss this game
Just some quick notes for those who want to play the game. Tuning upgrades really do play a big role on how you want your car to drive (sometimes even real life tips on car setups can be applied to this game). The fastest car is an NSX i think, i remember hitting 246 mph by using a transmission upgrade specifically made for top speeds. For drifting i recommend using these techniques : Feint, Side brake, accel off (recommended for MR cars), and lastly an unusual way to drift is by hitting the gas and the handbrake at the same time as it could initiate a drift for some reason and it works best with a feint style approach to a corner. You could also find an actual drifting tutorial in the game, just scroll to the right until you hit the last car in the touge menu and you could find Daijiro Yoshihara lol. There you could learn a lot of techniques and some other stuff. Also i dont know if this is true for the ps2 version but if you make a u turn at the starting point of the Feint Drift stage, you somehow can have the entire touge to yourself as long as you dont drive to the finish line up the mountain (Despite other tutorial stages having them locked in a timer when you drive the opposite of the intended way for the course). Recommended cars for drifting : obviously the RX 7, any MR car (yes that includes the nsx and the toyota mr2), any silvia could work too i think, and the AE 86. As a disclaimer to that i have never tried any other cars like the s2000 or whatever so you could try other cars as long as they are FR or MR. Lastly, if you feel as if the handling makes you puke try changing the differential. For drifting, top speed isnt that essential compared to acceleration so use transmission upgrades specifically made for accel (you can read its desc to know which is which).
That's a shame, really. Because in my opinion, the Fast & Furious movies had potential for great games. Not just in terms of racing, but I would've loved to play through some of the action set-pieces such as robbing semi-trucks, jumping onto a fleeing yacht, drifting up a parking lot, and many of the chases through city streets. Maybe it's just me, but I felt like there was so much potential you could do with a Fast & Furious game that isn't locked behind an arcade cabinet or mobile device.
@@theitfactorjameswheezer2852 Nah, I'm talking about a game with actual effort and passion towards it. Showdown was just a rushed hack job that released purely to cash-in on the release of Fast & Furious 6. While I liked the idea for what they were going for, I actually think that it could've been so much better. Especially when games like Stuntman, Pursuit Force, and the 2009 Vin Diesel game Wheelman worked so well.
This is the first video I have seen from you, and holy heck. I really really envy your calmness. :D If I played that game for that long, I'd probably scream and rant about it if it comes to making a video.
Thank you for reviewing this game! When I first picked it up over a decade ago, I couldn't wrap my head around the physics either. However, there are definitely more skilled examples of drifting and driving that I found helped me learn to play: ruclips.net/video/I8C_Vjt5OXs/видео.html as an example of what fairly good drifting looked like back when people actively pursued being good at it. I helped guide some people into drifting this game back when it had a bit of a following. Common issues were the following: People attempting to drift AWD vehicles, using solely the brakes and ignoring the handbrake to keep drifts going, and also putting too much power into their vehicles. Part of this was people choosing cars that were popular in the scene at the time (the Lancer and Skyline being the biggest suspects) and also fruitlessly buying up in an attempt to overtake their hurdles with the game's drift model. Traditionally, drifting in the mountains used lower-power light cars that didn't exactly need a ton of persuasion to get them sideways (and stay there), and I found that the game's physics attempted to emulate this. Driving that AE86 with middle-tier power upgrades works far better than maxing out an expensive highway racer - the part descriptions often recommend horsepower limits for each set of tires, and what limit they have before being uncontrollable. In some cases, when using vehicles like the Corvette to drift, we found it more beneficial to actually wear grip tires because of how easy it is to break traction without any tire upgrades at all. Choosing the right gearbox was also important, as often people would skip over the transmission upgrade descriptions and keep "buying up" - they too, note which ones have shorter and longer gears, helping you choose the one that will get you to the highest speed VS the one that will get you the best acceleration between drifts. So, despite what comments you found - I would go out on a limb here and say that the physics are as bad as players aren't willing to be curious about them. The drift model that the game uses was something very new at the time, and attempted to be very un-arcadey for what the game was. It is very important to understand the difference between the brakes and the handbrake. One will slow you, the other will help you keep your drift going. You can, after a lot of practice and time, become quite consistently great at drifting. The first time I drifted the full half-circle at the base of the damn in the first touge was probably one of the most validating experiences I have had playing any racing game. This is a great review, and I love that you shed some light on a game that my friends and I hold quite dearly. Keep up the great work!

Seems like the mechanics are spot on. If I entered a corner at 138 mph in a corvette, it would drift right into a tree. Try using the brakes and then initiating a drift.
Here's an idea: try using a FWD car, from what I know, eutechnyx games usually feature very different driving mechanics for different drive train. i learned this from playing street racing syndicate.

Randi Herdiwiguna god I loved that game
Over The Hedge almost got a sequel.... apparently!!
The Fast and The Furious is pretty good tho, 2 is my personal favourite due to me being a simp for Monica (Eva Mendes’ character) and also because I watched it a ton as a kid.
Also that PS2 TFATF game doesn’t look too bad.
I feel like midnight club series is the unofficial fast n furious game adaptation. That game captures perfectly the spirit of the movie lol.
Family
yo
Y'know the game is really good tbh, but the bg flaw has to be yeah, the drift physics, or just crash physics aswell. Many times when i hit the outer walls my car ended up being a guardrail eating magnet, like it was a torturous experience, but i did all the events besides this one i forgot where, beat all the guys and leave Team Top Secret the last, to make the legend Smoky feel like the Final Boss of the game.
When I see gameplay to this Fast & Furious game, it seriously reminds me of Midnight Club 3 & Midnight Club: Los Angeles 😜
When I got my ps3 that was one of the first games I purchased lol. Plus ps3 games are so cheap now it was only like 3 bucks at the most. That was for the premium edition too
>my girfriend
wtf, how could you? literally crying and shaking rn, unscubscribing
Simping memes are too good lmao
wtf, how could he do a normal human function?!?! its not like we all exist on having a girlfriend or something... oh wait..
Surprised you didnt cover the classic "Wheelman" staring Vin Diesel
Ah a nice sight to see the drifter here.
The camera behaves and feels like a modern racing game, which is actually impressive that it was far ahead of its time for when it came out
“These mechanics are weird” *takes every single corner at full speed*
wait... do you *not?*
is that why I can never drift in any racing game!?
@@no-man_baugh You gotta brake, obvs.
I remember wanting to get this game so badly when I was 12. When I got it, it was one of the coolest racing games I've ever played. I had it on the PSP since I didn't have a PS2.
I suggest trying the game Auto Modellista, it's one of of my favorites of this type.
Dude I was just thinking that scrolling through these comments ,
Auto modelista is like initialD Graphics with a fun garage mode 2002
I'm so glad you found this game! I loved the in depth mechanics and customization with the cars in it, and the only complaint I've ever had was the lack of punishment with damages on the vehicles. But overall, this and the arcade cabinet game of the same name are some of my favorite racers.
I loved that game, I had it for my PSP!
This game is so inaccurate... selecting a Mazda doesn't come with a 20 minute dissertation on the virtues of a rotary.
Dude bro did you know rotaries use like triangles bro
@@RetroZero64 pretty sure the technical description is Dorito's
The map is also inaccurate funnily enough
@@RetroZero64 I understood that reference 😎
I really loved this game. I had the PSP version. I spent hours painting and tuning cars. It's a shame it got such poor reviews when it came out. This game is a hidden gem much like the TXR series.
i grew up with that game even playing online was fun but learning how to properly drift with all the diferent styles that give you more points was really hard. It suprises me that some people still remember this great game. (in my opinion it might be nostalgia too)
3:22 wait... you guys have girlfriends?
Girlfriend!? Are these creatures even real? I thought they were a legend
Racers don't need girlfriends!
^ Takumi doesn’t need a girlfriend and he’s fine
カルマカイザ you can either be a simp or be successful and have one.
@@SkylineLofe They need family.
Your Corvette made me laugh out loud. Great work as always.
I highly recommend Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero, I consider it to be the best in the main series as a whole. Even though TXR3 may look better and has more tracks, Zero has more cars, better physics and better opponents (partly due to the physics in 3 also negatively affecting the opponent racers as they can't handle it)
I also recommend Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2, part of the Drift sub series. If the main series is Shuto Expressway racing, then the Drift series is Touge racing.
All those games above have really indepth customisation and even tuning mechanics that allows you to finetune the car mechanics which is uncommon for an arcade.
That Thumbnail tho of Vin Diesel hanging out the civic holding the game had me weak 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm still trying to digest this thumbnail. Am I the only one that thinks it looks almost like CG, but also looks like a movie screengrab at the same time? (I know the face is edited. I mean everything else, like the arms and the inside of the Civic.)
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying but it's from the first f&f movie, the hijack scene.
Uncanney Valley
THANK YOU for bringing more attention to this game, I got it from a garage sale when I was like 7 and I didn’t have a save card for my ps2 so I would restart everyday and on vacations I would beat it completely and restart the next day
Such a sad existence ours was xD
I have never heard of anyone confusing The Fast and the Furious and Need for Speed Underground
Its not that hard really... I mean Need for Speed Underground would make sense if it were a fast and furious game with all the customizing and ricer styling of the game.
I played this back in the day, it's pretty decent! Feels like a NFSU game with Genki energy. Shocked me as an adult to see namco's logo on the cover since I'm a big fan of arcade racing machines.
The ending scene in Tokyo drift should’ve had Brian O’Connor because he was into the import cars .
or they would've just made two different groups where dom is leading one while brian on the other
Fred I don’t think their stopping at fast 10 either ludacris hinted at it without thinking in an interview and mentioned fast 11 and an internet blog said their were talks of a Tokyo drift 2
@@0da.theactivists456 Yeah they are going to drag it out as long as possible... The last one I watched was where Walker was digitally added. I wasnt even a huge fan of it really... After the first few it was just sort of something to watch to blow time. Now I just dont even like it enough to do that unless im watching one of the older ones.
@@TheFrogInYourClosetWatchingYou they need to cut the cord on the franchise and let it rest forever lol
Love your videos man. Good job, its a new concept in video games for me.
I absolutely love this game. One of my favorite ps2 racing games. While the physics were always weird, what made the game great was the replicas of real life custom cars, real drivers, and aftermarket parts. Name a game that has more and or better customization on ps2. Honestly it may have some of the best import tuning parts of ANY GAME. It's makes a jdm fan nerd alllll the way out.
The fact that a lot of the ideas in this game reflect in Need For Speed 2015 is a testament to how ahead of its time this game is.
"If they just got the physics right..." Welcome to racing games lol
In the race against DK I just spin him out then just drift like it was a normal race against the other drifters
turn off your driving assists, so you have full control of the car, and don't max out your car
@@goose8447 I didn't have any driving assist on. You get full control of your car at the start dude I know this because I own the game and it's still With me. I 100% it and I played it recently there is no driving assist
This was my favorite game in the PSP ❤
Loads of references. Near the end of the highway battles and drift battles, you encounter the crew and their villains: Brian O Connor, Dom toretto, etc
Drift Battles in difficult touges with Sean Boswell, Takashi and his crew
The customization is epic. I made special liveries, and I copied liveries of the AI cars by memory
I miss this game
People: "The NFS Carbon Corvette is OP"
F&F Rusteze Corvette:*KACHOW!!!*
I've hoarded copies of this game for years. One of my favorite racers ever.
Fun Fact : An Original Xbox Version For This Game Was Also Planned But Cancelled
Love those thumbnails. I guess your videos are aight too
I like to see the DRIVER 2 box case in the background when you show the Fast and Furious box case.
Probably the only good Fast & Furious game imo.
Midnight Club Still Cancelled Soz well there’s like 2 others so not hard
That's a shame, really.
Because in my opinion, the Fast & Furious movies had potential for great games.
Not just in terms of racing, but I would've loved to play through some of the action set-pieces such as robbing semi-trucks, jumping onto a fleeing yacht, drifting up a parking lot, and many of the chases through city streets.
Maybe it's just me, but I felt like there was so much potential you could do with a Fast & Furious game that isn't locked behind an arcade cabinet or mobile device.
Matthew Cool um well there was that fast and furious showdown game that was awful

Here are some games you could try that you might find interesting:
Spartan total warrior (PS2/gc)
Wild 9 (PS1)

Downhill domination (PS2) (beast)
Found your channel through recommendations, and I always appreciate these videos showing games many haven't seen, or forgotten, feels like gaming archeology. Anyway, nice video, nice channel

Spartan total warrior was awesome for its time. Was kind of glitchy though
Holy shit I completely forgot about wild9 I used to play it all the time when I was like 5
Seems like the mechanics are spot on.
Was sent to a detention center for hospitalizing a bully in middle school. My brother bought me this for the PSP while I was in there. This game was my life line for those 2 years.
I remember playing this when growing up. It left a impression which is something you can never say about movie games.
I remember playing that in a friends ps2 back in the day. That is just pure nostalgia for me.
I have pretty good memories of this growing up, great to see it get some attention
Your thumbnails are horrifyingly awesome
I Love the Thumbnail 😂
Ah this game was my childhood thx for giving it some mainstream attention
For a ps2 game....this game looks unbelievable. The real time reflection on the back window of the car mixed with all of those night time lights really gives this game a level of graphical depth that you just usually don't see on the console, especially with such an oddly budgeted game.
That's my favorite childhood game. One of my favorite rival is virgil. His drifting style is so smooth doe
This game was so sick! I played it so much on the PSP and I still play it sometimes on ps2 emulator on my computer. Underrated
Fun fact: the cancelled f&f game was being developed by Genki, wich is the same studio that developed various Tokyo extreme racer games and the psp, ps2, ps3 wangan midnight games.
