The most bizarre thing about this game is that it was actually a 3ds game ported to home consoles instead of the other way around. Also, having played Crossroads and Showdown with a friend, I can say Showdown actually has much better control and physics than Crossroads. Which is still truly unbelievable, given the fact that the devs behind Crossroads made Need For Speed Shift and Project Cars.
What's funny is that (former) CEO of Slightly Mad boasting up F&F Crossroads so much in response to NFS did bad with Payback, so he figured he had the advantage and made a game that's "better" than what NFS is doing for the next 6 years Which backfired so badly when that game flopped so bad, Slightly Mad Studios eventually gets absorbed by EA again that said former CEO of that studio whose talked trash about NFS had to resign from his own company and from what I've heard, was making whatever tf is this upcoming sim racer "GTR Revival" is under a different studio

If you really want to make a Fast & Furious game based on what the franchise has turned into, I think you need a similar budget to two or even three of those films combined along with a development time of like 5 or more years. Making a tie-in game that delivers on such an experience is just not viable.
Bro!! Imagine a fast an furious game but its like the first stuntman game. And your playing as a stunt driver-double working behind the scenes trying to nail the driving scenes from the first 2 movirs. That woulda been epic!
Fantastic video as per usual. Only you can make a great, fun, insightful video about a game this bland. Also great discussion about what makes fast games bad, would love to see more stuff like that Great work
Speaking of Fast and Furious in the arcade, I played the Midway Fast game every time I was in Walmart as a kid since it was the only arcade machine within an hour of me. Decently fun game for 5 minutes waiting on mom, and you could save upgrades for next time. It was released on Wii as Cruis’n, but it’s probably a meh home experience.
10:53 I've asked myself this question many times. Fast & Furious has the material and budget to make something fantastic, they don't need to copy something successful to make sales imo. They just need to find a developer that actually "cares" about the IP, and not just there for a cash grab. The one from 2006 is the only one I played and I remember it kind of copied SRS, which already wasn't a great game, but it still wasn't the worst thing I've played. Sad to see it's the best that F&F has to offer
Yeah absolutely, I definitely think a great Fast game could be made by a passionate dev with a big budget, no doubt. And it should. I guess the point I was trying was more along the lines of - why hasn't a big dynamic AAA cinematic stunt driving action story game already happened by now? And I think the answer lies in it simply being hard to pull off right - every game that's tried it hasn't quite struck gold. It'll take a lot of inventiveness and boldness for a game to crack the code here, and I kinda respect Crossroads & Showdown for at least trying ALSO i should add ur channel is fantastic
Need For Speed Payback is a pretty damn good blueprint for a F&F game. The three different protagonists, the government conspiracy plot, the "famous city" setting. It's all right there

Wow that creature in the thumbnail looks like a biblically accurate angel from the cars universe. I do wish for more minimme type videogames, mostly because they fit such a fun spectrum of action and spectacle. Hopefully Resistor, the new car combat game, causes people to try making more vehicle focused action games. Also more spy hunter.
Despite them not being racing games, Just Cause and Sleeping Dogs do the vehicular combat element very well. They would be a great foundation for the Fast series.
Avalanche Studios in general would be a great place to do this. Mad Max, Rage 2, and the Just Cause series all have great DNA to build a F&F game off of.
The first game that came to my mind as inspiration was Just Cause. Considering how superhero-like the recent movies have become, the craziness of Just Cause 2,3,4 could be a good base for a good Fast game.
This came out the same year as The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, Aliens: Colonial Marines, The Fighter Within and... *sigh* Ride to Hell: Retribution. Man, 2013 was indeed a pretty rough time for gaming wasn't it.
I also wanted to include Beyond: Two Souls but I was worried that it would've pissed off the few detractors this game and by extension, David Cage still have.
I really appreciate how positive your content is. I think it's easy for creators to fall back on coming up with 30 different metaphors for calling something bad, but you always find something positive to say even in a video like this. Making games is hard and you have a great track record of giving the devs the benefit of the doubt. Kudos to you, my friend. Keep up the good work.
I can only imagine why Dom is absent is Vin Diesel gave a big no to this and he wouldn't allow anyone else to play him. Didn't have Tigon Studios' involvement whereas Crossroads did.
This game for some reason awakens so many memories in me. The Spy Hunter game on 3DS is the most recent game I've played like it but more than anything it reminds me a lot of the Starsky and Hutch game that came out on the Xbox and PC as a pseudo tie-in for the movie. It consisted of car chases and played best in coop with one driver and one person shooting. Very cheap arcade fun. It's up there for me with Wakeboarding Unleashed (Tony Hawk but with wakeboards and one player can drive the boat in coop.) as zero budget games from my childhood that were so fun in coop I ended up playing them for hours and hours.
there are 2 early 2000's F&F mobile games. one about the 5th movie and one about the first few. i have very vivid memories but i remember them being fucking amazing
there was a fast and furious game being developed by Genki that was cancelled sadly. Genki's games are pretty good, albeit budget title esque. so really bummed to never see it come out.
Yeah but it's all about family, man. And by family I mean, the FaF family - you will never get it until you've 1. Watched Vin "doing a live", or 2. Been "Vinned" - which you may feel like after you've watched a Vin "live" but in reality you have to experience it for "real". Nothing is worth getting "Vinned" for, so I would just leave it.
I remember getting this game on the 360 at a PC Richard and Son with my father while we were waiting for my mother and brother were off doing something and I rarely remember even playing the game.
I’m sorry but this is by far the best video game ever bro this is not a game you should not hate it has amazing gameplay, graphics and great storyline!!! Get your facts right!!!
I remembered they shown a concept game for fast and furious in mid 2000's i wonder where that gone because it's got more potential than this piece of crap
Conceptually, all of these mission objectives sound very cool. It's a shame the project didn't work out. It looks quite frustrating to play. Thank you for always covering these sorts of titles. It's always interesting to learn about these games that sometimes drive under the radar. I am so sorry. I had to.
It's unfortunate that licensed games often prioritize profit over quality and longevity. Those are developed not with a long-term vision in mind, instead they just just try to cash in quickly before the costly license expires. In order to further confirm my point, Crossroads, got delisted almost 1 year later after launch.
I heard somewhere that Cruis'n Wii was originally intended to be a fast & furious game? Also the EA 007 games had some driving segments that would fit pretty well in an FF game I think.
There is one more F&F game you haven't covered l. Forza Horizon did a crossover game wit F&F. And while I understand it seeming like more of a horizon add on, it was a stand alone title. So technically it is it's own game.
When you were talking about which games could be used as inspiration for a potentially successful stunt driver game, I got to thinking about that strange "The Grand Tour Game" from 2019. It was basically a string of isolated, extravagant racing challenges inspired directly by events in the show, with all of the entertaining context provided as well. It basically felt like the audience was given a chance to do the same things they had been seeing in the show. Most people seem to think of it fondly despite its somewhat simple nature, but it does seem like that could be a good direction to go in with a Fast & Furious game.
I think the games that sit closest to what the latter movies have gone for are more like Just Cause and Far Cry: both have some driving and some shooting, with a main focus on action
It kinda baffles me that people still think you can take a movie or TV show, and make a "playable version" of it. I worked on a tie-in driving game a few years back and it was the same problem; it's too expensive to have every segment of your game be heavily scripted, and it's not even fun to play.
In terms of inspiration, I think the highly underrated Sleeping Dogs has all the driving, shooting, and hand-to-hand fighting gameplay mechanics that would fit a Fast and Furious game.
Yo shut up man. You should have said it was a coop game at the start. It looks like a really innovative and super fun coop game. I will buy the disc and actually play it with a buddy.
I knew from day one that this game was absolute garbage without ever even playing it after seeing a car with its bumper clipping through the ground on the back of the box. You know a game is going to be bad when they don't even try to make it look good on its own box.
I'll be the negative one and say this was just a cheaply and poorly made cash grab that makes me sad to think of some kid playing it because their parents didn't buy them a good game.
And now for the sake of completing the whole series: Every Fast and Furious game on mobile. That would be really MVP-esque. Just do it, minimme. However i disagree with one thing. You seem to claim that the franchise would need to look at other racing games and essentially copy what they did to make the gaming franchise successful...............i mean, really? NFSU came out as an inspiration of F&F and the illegal driving scene at the time and look at it. Still the best NFS games to date by far (and the first MW......after that, NFS went downhill). NFS is AAA? Ok, there are enough successful budget games out there and they achieved that by infusing ideas already done but give it a new spin to it. Heck, its said that even F&F was inspired by Racer X. My point is, if the developers (or rather big dogs that order these devs around) actually wanted, they could make something inspiring out of the gaming franchise. The PS2 was on its way there despite its flaws. Sure, it looked at NFSU and Midnight Club BUT it still tried to add their own flair into it. Thats called "effort". The "genre" F&F Showdown tries to tackle may not me as vast as typical racing but thats still no excuse to make a really shitty game because of pure laziness and hoping that the name alone saves it from obscurity. But how would a good F&F look like? This is me only considering the first 4 movies because i havent seen the rest nor do i want to because the franchise died after Tokyo Drift. From a "classics" perspective, NFSU or Midnight Club would be F&F-esque considering how the first 3 movies were. Maybe mix those with a bit of Wheelman-like missions and there you have it. Ya know, since the first 3 movies were also about racing and cars. From what i understand, the later movies (after Tokyo Drift) were more about the action rather than racing and cars so, something like Driver Parallel Lines would have done the job. I mean, if its about missions and shooting around while in the car, then Parallel Lines did it. Now, jumping from car to car ................ehm, Sleeping Dogs was already out. So, maybe mix Parallel Lines with Sleeping Dogs, add the typical F&F flavour and there ya go: A decent game.
The Tokyo Drift one will always have a place on my favorites, possibly because it's a spiritual successor to Street Racing Syndicate since they're made by the same developer.
since F&F movies are barely about cars, tuning and streetracing now just making "Midnight Club/Underground 2/Most Wanted but with F&F characters in cutscenes" wont be such a bad idea, story about what "familia" do between movies when they arent saving the world. 3 open world maps, say LA, Tokyo and Rio, licensed cars with unlockable iconic ones like orange Supra, fun police chases and voila. problem is movies already printing money so why bother with proper games
I honestly thought the F&F PSP game was shockingly competent, I don't remember it being particularly groundbreaking, and it was like a watered down Midnight Club in terms of gameplay. But hey it was otherwise not that bad for a PSP game. (I think it's based off the PS2 game anyway, it's been a very long time since I've touched it...)
Hey Minimme, I have a game you might be interested in- Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia. It's a 2007 twin-stick shooter/action-adventure game that's all about parodying horror tropes, especially B-movie ones. It's got a pretty interesting concept but...questionable execution at best. I loved the game until I got old enough to realize how much it sucked.
Really like your reviews. Especially on the Driver series. Some of my most favorite games ever but.....Midnight Club is my most favorite series ever. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on MC2 and MC3. Subbed.
The fact that this franchise makes so much money and don't make a game that's about actual racing and car customization like Midnight Club, NFS, The Crew, and Forza is so disappointing. All the revenue that flows in and they don't/didn't hire the best street racing video game developers to make a solid game with solid graphics is ridiculous. Firebrand games? Are you serious? You couldn't hire Rockstar San Diego or Criterion Games to develop a better than average street racing/action game. I promise, if you give Midnight Club a second run with the budget and money that the F&F franchise has, they'll make the greatest street racing video game to ever be made with many car brands, endless amounts of customization, a map larger than GTA 5, and a above average story mode better than what we see in today's racing games. I Understand F&F primarily resides in the movie industry, but it's no excuse to make a video game THIS bad and not have at least one game in the series that people can go back to years down the road.
As someone who has a Xbox 360 and 3DS copy and strives to get every unlockable in the game I have a love-hate relationship with this game. The 3 star missions are impossible to complete as no matter how many enemies I destroy the game doesn't spawn enough to complete the secondary objectives and the cutscenes are forever on loop in my head as some achievements (one that involves no damage on a mission where you are towing a viper and having to defend it the mission by itself is pure pain) are difficult to get (The 3DS version makes it even harder as the you can see the pixels on larger consoles making aiming even harder). The physics are awful and cars have turned into boats. Drifting is incredibly slippery and so I have had to learn how to master an awful game developed by a company who have made a decent selection of handheld racing games (not console). The 3DS version cuts the secondary missions (as they would me impossible to complete without the in-game mods) and mods are only available to use in playlist missions only 32 stills are can be unlocked as the others 32 are from secondary missions (Less grainy quality of stills from Fast & Furious movies, yay). The only reason I like this game is that it bridges the gap between 5 and 6, adds the flip car (that is only in F&F Crossroads behind a DLC) and the feature of it flipping cars, the voices aren't recorded in a bathroom (But now It sounds like they're being held hostage and they are repetitive.) and I haven't found a single bug except for cars flinging out of barriers in the Bueno Aires mission. Did I mention the co-op achievements for career and playlist? I'm still trying to unlock them, good luck. As most of the games I had were racing games it was the only game I had at the time that was a kind of fun action game (now this hole is replaced by Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry) that I bought for £4 at a local Cex. I don't know if I have the base version of the game or a skip cutscene function was added later as I never had that option. Thanks for reading this long page of text.
I think you forgot one tbh Need for Speed The Run is PERFECT for what a Fast and Furious game could be They literally perfected the "action racing game" No one has ever done it justice like them since
Right, hear me out - Stuntman returns, this time, as more of a Live-Service game… Packs get released intermittently based on certain films or franchise’s, such as Fast and the Furious, Mission Impossible, Italian Job etc. You’re still getting those franchise’s in game, just as a more behind the scenes approach, as opposed to living in those worlds created. I feel something like that would adapt to game form a lot smoother than games based on those specific worlds forcing them to work.
It's so bizarre seeing actual detailed Chrysler licensed vehicles and then quickly modeled slugs so low detail they're missing window transparency in a race. These are supposed to be opponents you're keeping an eye on, not passing traffic you'll only see for a split second. Only the box trucks and buses have windows because you're meant to hijack those during certain missions.
This sounds silly but when I think of an idea that would work for a fast and furious game. I think of the game that I’ve been replaying recently: Sleeping Dogs. You play as an undercover cop who makes his way through the ranks of a mafia or a “family” if you will. He grows too attached to this group and loses the picture of his job and then starts to do his own thing. You’ve got chase sequences on foot and while in cars. You can leap to cars in front of you and car Jack. There is a dedicated “Ram” button while driving. There are sections where you are shooting from a car window. It even goes slow motion when you shoot tires and the cars crash in spectacular fashion. Finally there is also street racing in the game and it is set in Hong Kong.
Honestly, I watched the last movie at 1.5x speed (sometimes even jumping a little bit scenes) for free and I felt like someone sc4 mmed my time. Terrible, this whole thing is a cash grab tbh
Eh, its better than that Java NFS Underground 3 Remake. That game sucked and they didn't even give credit or give the name of the original game "Fast ans Furious Fugitive"

Vin... Ya gotta come to my cousins Fast and Furious game.... Eva Mendez is here...
This game is actually the best F&F game. It’s so bad that it makes you realize what’s important in life: family
most arcade games HAVE to be fukkin magnificent. this is not ready for arcade.
I remembered they shown a concept game for fast and furious in mid 2000's i wonder where that gone because it's got more potential than this piece of crap
Your last 3 videos made for a good watch while bored alone at work
Nice that this was posted the same time Ludacris was announced to be performing in my city
Conceptually, all of these mission objectives sound very cool. It's a shame the project didn't work out. It looks quite frustrating to play.
Thank you for always covering these sorts of titles. It's always interesting to learn about these games that sometimes drive under the radar. I am so sorry. I had to.
I really miss NFS Underground 2...
It's unfortunate that licensed games often prioritize profit over quality and longevity. Those are developed not with a long-term vision in mind, instead they just just try to cash in quickly before the costly license expires. In order to further confirm my point, Crossroads, got delisted almost 1 year later after launch.
What's even worse as the other guy pointed out, that Crossroads was made by the same team behind Project Cars and NFS Shift games
I heard somewhere that Cruis'n Wii was originally intended to be a fast & furious game?
Also the EA 007 games had some driving segments that would fit pretty well in an FF game I think.
Cruis'n Wii is actually a license-stripped version of the Fast & Furious arcade game by Raw Thrills.
Did youtube find a new way to ruin comments?
Don't ask why the minimap shows other roads that you can't go to, it's only there to inconvediance players.
the fas and furoos
I would like to see something in the style of a David Cage game
you should do a retrospective on the pirates of the carribean games
Good one! I played the legend of jack sparrow as a kid.
Another subgenre has fallen victim to the consolidation of the games industry.
This looks like a wii sholvelware game.
I remember the NerdCubed video on this game. Not for the game, though.
Same
Someone clearly hasn't played the Fast Five Unity game
That game was bad..... reaaallllly baaad...
I think the games that sit closest to what the latter movies have gone for are more like Just Cause and Far Cry: both have some driving and some shooting, with a main focus on action
early on a minimme video? that's a first for me
It kinda baffles me that people still think you can take a movie or TV show, and make a "playable version" of it.
Surprised Need For Speed The Run wasn't mentioned. It had plenty of action setpieces.
Fun Fact: This game is on Wii U. Please don’t play it, It is a waste of money.
Another Fun Fact: It is Also Disc only on the Wii U.
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT
Fast and Furious had a kids' show?
*FOR HOW LONG?!*
I feel like we need a Fast game that takes from something like Spy Hunter, more specifically that one Spy Hunter game that starred The Rock
Midnight Club is the grown man fast and furious. I'd never played none of these... But they made one for the ps4
Subbed.
You forgot the early 2000s classic: Zipzaps 2 fast 2 furious game on the old Shockwave site lol. Remember Gorillaz Final Drive...?
I've played this game and beat it.. its not that bad as people say it is .. just wish I got the dlc cars before they left the markets...
Anyone remember nerd3s video on this game?
Yes
I think you forgot one tbh
Need for Speed The Run is PERFECT for what a Fast and Furious game could be
They literally perfected the "action racing game"
No one has ever done it justice like them since
Right, hear me out -
Stuntman returns, this time, as more of a Live-Service game…
Packs get released intermittently based on certain films or franchise’s, such as Fast and the Furious, Mission Impossible, Italian Job etc.
You’re still getting those franchise’s in game, just as a more behind the scenes approach, as opposed to living in those worlds created.
I feel something like that would adapt to game form a lot smoother than games based on those specific worlds forcing them to work.
Minimme's regular reminder to release the Sims 2 DS video, already.
Dude, you should definitely play and review Silent Hill Downpour.
Wasn't Need For Speed: Payback sort of F&F game? Atleast some sequences (yeah, the truck heist) had the righr vibe i think
Honestly, I watched the last movie at 1.5x speed (sometimes even jumping a little bit scenes) for free and I felt like someone sc4 mmed my time. Terrible, this whole thing is a cash grab tbh
The only video game to emulate FnF properly was Pursuit Force Extreme Justice. If you don't know what it is google it.
You really need to cover Driver:San Francisco. And you should try Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance, looks like a game up your alley!
Eh, its better than that Java NFS Underground 3 Remake. That game sucked and they didn't even give credit or give the name of the original game "Fast ans Furious Fugitive"
