    Hello, I just finished my masters degree in Chinese Medicine and wanted to clarify something that is a little misleading in these face mapping charts. Usually when we refer to an organ name, we are not primarily talking about the organ itself, but rather a complex organ channel. These organ channels have many roles in the body and interrelationships, together they govern every aspect of the humans life (mental, emotional, physical,, etc.) Over a couple thousand years Chinese Medicine practitioners developed an intricate understanding of how these "organ systems" support the body or may become out of balance. Often, the roles assigned to the organ based on observation, are not at all related to that organ from a western perspective. A simple example of this would be that each organ is associated with an emotion, sadness for the lungs, anger for the liver, etc. Further, a problem can exist in the organ channel system, without ever reaching the physical organ itself, but we would still consider it to be a problem relating to that organ. Often there are overlapping considerations between western and Chinese medicine as it is an observation based science, but these observations were developed before we could observe things on a cellular level, and often they were developed before people could even rigorously observe the physical organs through dissection. I hope this helps to clarify why there is some discrepancy between western and Traditional Chinese Medicine regarding what organs are diagnosed regarding different dysfunctions. In many ways, the system reminds me of some of the more poetry based naturalists of early western scientific study (Goethe for example.)

      Hi, this is super helpful! I heard from my dad who is a Chinese doctor that different areas on the skin with acne are related to different organ problems, so I searched up this video. I was confused when she said none of it is really relevant except for the endocrine system correlation in one area. What you said makes a lot more sense! I will check back with my dad about what areas area related to what organ system! I also thought that the part where you said "each organ is associated with an emotion" is really interesting! I never knew that despite wanting to be a Chinese doctor one day! :0

      So this is anecdotal and if I were you I'd just see an eastern practitioner. I've had persistent acne for years around the lower angle of my mouth. I've been seeing a derm and tried every short of accutane which is next step. I was supposed to start it several weeks ago but she decided not to start me on to as I had an emergency where my lung collapsed due to an enormous, mango-sized "bleb" on my lung and I had to have surgery. I couldn't help but think these could be related and low and behold I came across face mapping and my persistent, stubborn acne is in the lung region. I'm 37. My first random periods of shortness of breath began at 21, one year after my acne began...
      I will be following up with a pulmonologist to determine the cause of all this. 🙏

    My parents used to feed me foods that were supposed to "lower the heat" in my body when I had acne. Distinctly remember drinking bittermelon tea for that. And when that didn't work, they would blame it on other organs of my body and my lack of care for them. Fast forward later to 1 cycle of doxycycline, 2 cycles of accutane and daily use of tret since I was 17. I'm 41 now and clear.

    • @raerohan4241
      @raerohan4241 3 года назад +12

      I hate it when parents try to blame your acne on you. Last week an uncle told me my acne was caused by coffee (because it's too heaty, he said) and I said I had bad acne since before I started drinking coffee. And it was actually worse back then. He still tried to insist that I shouldn't be drinking hot things outside of winter and then I told him I drink cold brew and said why does everybody drink tea then, to which he didn't have a reply.
      Then literally yesterday my mom told me her teenage acne was cleared up by this face wash and then it'd do the same for me. I told her I'd already tried it a long time ago and that it made my acne worse because it was too stripping and dried my skin out horribly. She insisted that it would work because it did for her, to which I replied that we have different skin types and different causes for our acne, so what worked for her was not guaranteed to help me. And then she got mad and told me that _she_ was _my_ mother, not the other way around, and not to talk back to her. 😑 They always pull out that line when they can't refute your point but need to have the last word 🙄
      Sorry for the rant, just needed to get all that off my chest 😅

    it's not facial mapping, I suppose, but another acne location question: why is it common to get a mirror image acne spot on exactly the same place on the other side of your face? Out of all the possible locations and different angles, and all the past locations, this used to happen to me constantly. Even when the spot was in a really weird place, I'd get another a short while later on the other side of my face in the same place!

    In traditional medicine, facial mapping only is brought up if there are unusual breakouts in certain areas of the face. Meaning you have major acne breakouts all over the face, that doesn’t mean you have problems in different parts of the body, just means you have acne. But unexpected breakout (that’s not caused from physical irritation, i.e. fabric or cosmetic) can be an indication that your body may be experiencing some degree of problems. For example pimples on the left cheek could mean that you have potential circulatory system problems, or liver problems, but this doesn’t necessarily mean disease in the liver or blood circulation, it could just be you’ve been staying up late and circadian schedule is messed up and liver is overworked. The recommendation would usually only be drink more water or rest well. It’s less for diagnosing problems in the body, and more for giving a general explanation for random occurrence of area specific breakouts.

    I ‘faced mapped’ when I was really desperate to understand my skin in my late teens early 20s. I would fixate and worrying if one of my organs was having issues because my skin was so awful. Now, In my early 30s, I still suffer from acne but also now I also know I also have psoriasis. From watching your videos, I have stopped worrying and stressing, which is a good thing because stress is just an everyday thing. I’ve embraced cerave cleaners and the navy blue cerave tub (I can’t remember what it’s called) and use them daily on my skin. I’ve also noticed that not using a towel after bathing, and using my cerave cream has helped my psoriasis a lot!

    “We don’t check organ systems when someone comes in with acne”. Yup. This is exactly why I gave up on my dermatologist doing anything for my acne, and why I gave up on my gyno doing anything for my acne, and why I - as someone who was raised by medical doctors and scientists - ended up going to a naturopathic doctor because they are the only professional looking at my body as a WHOLE system and trying to treat whatever the root cause is that’s CAUSING my acne, not just the acne itself. For the record, it’s insulin resistant/lean PCOS and no, slapping some accutane on it did not and would never fix it long term, and birth control was a bandaid that only made the issue worse once I came off of it. Medical doctors and specialists really need to start talking to each other more when treating a patient and approaching treatment as a team. My gyno prescribed Mirena to me despite my PCOS - my derm probably could have told her that an androgen only form of birth control is a bad idea for anyone with acne as their primary problem. Etc.

    Dr. Dray I love your videos and I come here a lot for good advice and your intelligence. I really, really love your videos and I know you probably were just trying to make a video for fun bringing out TCM because it's really, really interesting but I kinda thought your points were discrediting chinese medicine, in a way? Having a pimple on the kidney area doesn't mean you have a kidney disease in conventional or tradicional medicine. It MIGHT mean you have a disbalance energy on that organ. Chinese medicine is an energetic medicine not an anatomical one. Also theres a lot of ways to diagnose in TCM and they approach on an holistic way. So this type of maps are just to help practitioners to diagnose. TCM has their own lines and lyricism to be read. Just out of curiosity, dermatological problems, accordingly with TCM usually have to do with energetic disbalance of the lungs or due to pathogenic factors such as "heat", "dampness" or "wind" all terms of TCM. So, if you appear with a skin issue the practitioner will see that as a symptom and will try to restablish the energetic balance of the body and eliminate pathogenic factors. It's a different approach so doesn't make sense to compare it.
    Anyway, I like the diversity of your videos. Thank you Dr. Dray.

    Interesting topic! I have struggled with acne for a long time until I discovered tretinoin. A few years later I found out I was prediabedic. When I started researching the topic I found out that in cases of acne prone skin, in 30% of the patients cause is diabetes. Some dermatologists assign tests just because of this symptom.

    What about bumps on the perimeter of the lips? Not red and inflamed as you pictured. Looks like lip balm and other lip products might have clogged a pore? Not poppable. Is it milia? Should I see a derm to get it removed? Just keep chemically exfoliating those places until they eventually shed or dissolve?

    From an audiologic standpoint: it’s safer to talk on our phone or listen to music WITHOUT putting it close to your ear or using ear buds. If you want to keep your hearing healthy (& not need hearing aids later) then the sound waves need space to bounce around & be dampened by your pinna & not have sound waves directed directly on the ear drum.
    Also you need to wear hearing protection when using loud tools, lawn mowers, vacuums, or hair dryers. Keep your stereo music as LOW as you can tolerate it. You’ll thank me later when you can still hear in your 80s

    Yes, I heard of it . I do know that acupuncture was used on faces, head and body. It's very old ancient Chinese medicine but somehow they can read it what is going internally the body like thousands of years. Yup they also read your face if you have any pains , expression on your faces etc.
    I don't know much about it.

    I’m not sure if there was a video on this, but excess b12 supplements seem to be correlated with acne breakouts as well.
    Dr Gregor has a video on it.
    B12 is important, but most B12 supplements that I’ve found contain more than the daily requirement.

    • @stephaniemetzner5349
      @stephaniemetzner5349 3 года назад

      @S A taking B12 increases the amount of that vitamin on facial skin. This, in turn, causes a certain facial bacteria (propionibacterium acnes) to produce more of something called porphyrins, which results in inflammation. And this could lead to acne.

    • @stephaniemetzner5349

    Never heard of facial mapping before period in reference to breakouts along the sides of the face, I used to have that and I was told that I was possibly allergic to my hair. Would have made more sense if I have been told I was allergic to something I was putting in my hair. I would be running away from myself all day if I was allergic to my hair cuz the only way to get rid of that would have been to shave my head bald.

    Hello Dr Dray,
    I have a question.
    What if you don't seal the cap of a Vitamin C serum bottle (L- ascorbic acid, 15%) properly and later discover that there is a bit of a concentrated, yellow solid inside of the bottle. Does it mean that the serum is destabilized due to the air exposure and won't be effective anymore?

    • @db-gb5xi
      @db-gb5xi 3 года назад

      Depends, most folks say any time a vit c serum crystallizes or turns color, it's not considered effective. Some say if it's been stabilized with ferulic acid it should be okay.
