    Thank you, Sneb, for stating what many don't: making us do rotations for 10 minutes is hard on hands! It keeps me from playing as much as I would like. First it's too much time; second it's too hard on my hands.

    I am so glad we go back to "old" Tyria now. I really did not like those pink, hazy, nearly monochrome ghostlands of SOTO. The architecture in the mid zones were copy/paste all over zones and nothing I wanted to go back to after the story. Many characters were never developed, so you had no emotional relation to them at the end. My favorite is still HoT with it's gorgeous yet travel wise confusing zones with lots of verticality. They incited discovery and still do. Also the meta events were much better here and those are the ones I still go back to for some fun.
    I hope we get a "down to earth story" now in beautiful, natural environments. Or I will poke Arenanet with my new land spear!

    About the map being split in 2 instead of 3, it's a good thing imo because the map is designed in a complete weird way with artificial ways to prevent progress like giant walls and big pits, so just a split instead of 2 is already an improvement
    It's funny because I didn't even complete wing 7 yet but if the new expac has wing 8 I'd be so excited, even if I don't do it right away or for a long time, it's a major selling point for me, I don't know why

  • @camerynmaru

    Completely agree about open world gamers being disappointed with SOTO. You get this first impressive map (Skyreach) that you barely touch after you're done with the couple of story chapters, Amnytas which seriously I think I'm almost never in, and then finally Nayos which is just EXHAUSTING. Same dull pink and blue and purple, same awful character/mob design, and just plain boring overall. I cannot wait to be done with this expansion and move on to the next.

    • @hardy83
      @hardy83 Месяц назад +1

      I love exploring and was happy with the maps themselves, including Nayos, but I do think they were ALL under utilized, especially Amnytas and Skywatch. Other than the metas and rifts, there's little reason to go back to those maps.
      Like I get many people hate hearts, but they can be a rewarding way to go back to old maps. JPs, good farming spots for nodes etc. I like the achivement systems that have a reward for doing all the events and their chains at least once, but after that...

    There are small little niches in the Wizards Tower that they could expand as gates to the new expansion. Or they can add new floating islands similar to the pool area that are gates to the next set of maps.
    The idea of not adding a new HUB for the next set of maps… the idea is great but I can’t quite envision how they would reuse it.

    Another thing with Open World leaderboards is it enables Anet to make things a bit more challenging sometimes. The guy who said Dragon's End was completely impossible and couldn't be done could be defeated just by showing that 20 groups did it already with 5 minutes left on the clock.

    My summary... What I liked about the rifts is that they are taking us to the core maps and make us engage those maps some more, could have more mechanics, I'd be happier if in soto maps there were rifts where instead of mobs you hunt down cryptus turrets. Legy armor is a good feature, light and heavy armor looks good for me, it goes well with many other peaces. I really like the look of the new maps, I think they are beautiful, but I don't like Nayos meta train for the mentioned reasons. I'm fine with convergences although I wish they were either more rewarding or faster to do, even mobs are way too much tanky. Strikes I liked, couldn't do challenge mode yet but its a goal for me to reach in the future. Skyscale collection was fun and inspired me to finish the lvs4 one too (not that fun, but OK, could be worse). Skins are very good looking, and I think relics are fine,, not necessary change but as a new player I don't mind, I just miss relic of the druid, I used that effect a lot, there are more that are missing but I don't know those. Also I like the achievements in the soto, they are genuinely fun to finish and give us some lore, no one else seems to appreciate it. And my most favorite part of the expansion is /heroic emote, I love it and it solo made it worth the money.

    • @ginster458
      @ginster458 6 часов назад +1

      I‘m still of the the opinion that since the rifts take us to the core maps, they should’ve just reskinned leyline anomalies as rift anomalies for those maps and make that as a timed event in core maps to farm. They yield more than rifts but more than convergences and are difficulty wise in between. Add a few unique possible drops or the chance to drop a big amount of essences. Spawn every thirty minutes, encounter 15-25 mins depending on group dps, rotate through all core maps. You have a semi farmable event that isnt as dull as rifts, bring players back to core maps, have a loot incentive, and the base code for that is already there.
      Right now its like do I wanna suffer through dozens of tedious mini events, or do I wanna spend 20 minutes only to die to Umbriel in pug at 2% cause no one paid attention to Zoijja

  • @violetbliss4399
    @violetbliss4399 Месяц назад

    I actually think it's underrated how the one map thing affects players if the core is not to your liking. The way Soto areas are, it's both a very particular visual thing and also a particular style of map given how it has to be disconnected from the world. Either of those are automatically going to have a decent chance at debuffing a fair chunk of players, affecting everything else that they do.

  • @asgarzigel
    @asgarzigel Месяц назад

    As a thing you do every now and then, I think rifts and confluences are fine on their own.The problem is that for the main chase item of the year, the legendary armor, you need to do them endlessly. It also doesn't help that you always fight the kryptis, same as most events in the expansion.
    Nayos also had this problem of missing variety, going to another dimension should be exciting and cool, but Nayos is just the same kind of floating island but with a very drab color scheme. The general design just works way better if you only see glimpses of it during the story (like the bit where Cerus stalks you), but as a whole map there is just nothing interesting about it.

  • @mismismism
    @mismismism Месяц назад +1

    The meta baffles me that they didn't see the issues coming. Visual clarity has been an issue forever but they made everything 1 color palette, you can barely see the fountains, the circles are confusing and unclear what they do, so newer and more casual players are somehow expected to know what to do when the entire giant arena is covered in maroon effects and circle just appear that you can barely see, that can basically instant kill you before you know they're there. The room is giant so it becomes this conundrum of, do you go for the adds a or green circles miles away or stay on the boss? Even the run back if you die is super far away so no one wants to teleport to the waypoint and come back. It's just a mess, it's not fun, it's long AF when it already takes forever and a day to even get through all the metas before Eparch. I did it once, barely even understood what was supposed to be done along with most there, and I not only never want to do it again, I never want to see Nayos again in general.
    I just think, you don't want the last impression of the first small expac to be a bad one but the last patch was one of the worst last impressions possible.

    Expanding guild events to the metas and improving and lessen the waiting around in a meta train is a massively great idea. 6-12 hours meta trains are wayyyy tooooo looong and you expect people to join and leave in between! It will be a good sign the devs respects your time playing the game even more. Public metas will still continue absolutely fine. Its already very easy to join a guild and get involved and asking questions and share knowledge. People can still solo - but what are purely solo players doing playing GUILD wars in the first place, let alone looking to do group map metas and searching for more knowledge that isnt already on the GW2 Wiki?

    The "only 5% raid" isn't the whole story. Maybe 80% play through the stories - most players ONCE, maybe some do it on another character. The 5% that raid do raid WAY more often. So the total player time spent on raiding probably isn't far off the total time spent on playing the story. I am playing for a year and I probably spent 30x the amount of time in Raids.

    • @attinger117
      @attinger117 Месяц назад

      No way to prove if you’re right or wrong on that take, but I would bet you’re way off there. Even if most raiders play four hours every day, the number of players that don’t raid dwarf them and open world players don’t all play just an hour every few days, some of them no life too just in different ways.

    • @dfg12382
      @dfg12382 Месяц назад

      @@attinger117 Well you have to compare the same amount of content/dev work as a raid wing is - which is maybe 1 or 2 open world zones (rather 1 if you take big and complex maps like Dragons End). Let's compare Dragons Stand to Wing 1, as they are both roughly the same age. Dragons Stand playtime has decreased massively over the years (I'd guess it is down to MAYBE one or two handful of clears per day) as there just is newer OW content to farm - while Wing 1 is still being smashed by all the Full Clear groups every single week as if it was just released.

    There are few things in gw2 that make it bad for new player experience progression:
    - access to gear with good stats, you want ascended for fractals asap, tons of players are stuck with just 1 set of ascended gear no legendary or quite before getting that, the gear is almost always Beserker or Viper
    - nothing makes obvious sense, if nobody tells you that you are supposed to stay near players that provide boons, good luck understanding that
    - lots of the content is about adapting your gameplay toward boons you have or split second giving boons to others, there is no indication of that at all
    - the business model is opressive, it is a B2P game with on top of it an economy indexed on real money, questionnable cash shop and engineered scarcity. GW2 Efficiency, farm route addons, daily grinds rythm the game instead of actual gameplay most of the time.
    -> Imho GW2 ui is largely deficient, the game should provide some form of weak-aura effects that reflect what's up, might/fury/alac/swift and especially things like Aegis should be obvious without watching buffs.
    -> progression schemas in horizontal progression games is horrible, people segregate others to their ability to farm content when it get released and keep running it, skill transmission gets tougher and diversifying the gear as the game is horizontal is obnoxious as hell, half p2w or time consuming and half straight degrading with 20 steps convoluted process, wiki exploration and meaningless side grinds.
    Few of my friends also have gw2, these people are not retarded, they do not understand jack shit about the game except 1 or 2 aspect each. I do most of my shits solo with friendlist and pugs when I come back, guilds always kick me but I'm in a dead one at the very least so I can keep my guild buffs. It's a shame tho, raids are very nice, and I had lots of fun in fractal, CM 100 is one of the best mmo fight ever released hands down: short flashy and adrenaline filled. The sad reality is that the business model is greedy af, Mukluk and others say that the game is not P2W, I've never seen such an incidiously oppressive business model, everything is economy based and the game makes you literally work or pay.

    For me, Soto was by far the worst expansion that they made. I almost regretted buying it if it wasn't for weapon mastery.
    Day 1 story was alright, after that I had no interest going back.
    What also didn't help was that they removed functionality for me (I had full legendary gear when Soto released) and only 6 months later they restored that for me with the legendary relic.
    The new legendary armor was not enough for me to spend the 2-3 hours I have left every day to spend grinding doing the exact same thing for months.
    I don't intend to sound bitter, just pointing out that they really didn't catch me with Soto. For the next expansion I do not have any expectation, but they have some convincing to do so that I consider buying the next one.

    1) The most important thing is encounter design - whether in open world, instanced, or story mode. If encounter design is well done, then it offsets almost any other shortcomings: "Yea, feature XYZ was kinda lame, but the events were a blast to complete!"
    Some people will grit their teeth and grind through unfun content for some reward, but most won't. And those that do, certainly won't come back once they get their reward.
    2) Skyscale is a mount, not a game mode. Sorry Anet but no one is mast*rbating over tedious skyscale-based combat and skyscale-oriented terrain obstructions.
    3) Masteries are not a fun progression system and should only exist if they are meaningful, not contrived.
    4) Story arcs that fizzle at the end with a deus ex machina are cringe.

    Gw2 does what gw2 does, have great ideas then fall flat for various reasons. Overall soto is ok for what it was, its more of a 15-20 dollar expac though. For the relic system good idea but was clearly not fully thought out, afterall legendary relic was an after thought b4 they even released the expansion. Thats why everything around it was messy and poorly handled. In hindsight im sure they wish they left the old runes alone and just added relics to be their own thing. Afterall they're gonna just create the same 80 something relics where only 10 get used just like the old runes. Legendary armor is perfectly fine, what scares ppl about it is they want it now not 6months later. So when you look at the upfront cost it seems like too much, but it really isnt. Then you have wvw /pvp and raiders already having full set so they dont really care for most part. As for the 3rd part of nayos it would have worked if it was like drizzle wood which is what everyone was expecting. If they just added it to the previous launch and left this one as a maintenance patch and to get ahead on next expac would be better. Imo they need to make story a and story b, then shave then end part of a and the beginning of b and just release it in 3 patches and the 4 patch as down time to fix stuff and get ahead for next expac.
    As for sales of next expansion i feel like they will be down because less ppl will be buying the deluxe and ultimate edition. I know for me i was an avid ultimate buyer but i wont be buying it anymore. They're just not ultimate anymore and haven't felt that was since pof. Then add in how easy gold is to get now and there is just no point buying deluxe or ultimate since you can convert gold to gems and get the same uograde items.
    Same wih if raids get added the only way majority of ppl will do it is if its solo story, then its normal mode is like shiverpeaks and the coke bears where you need 0 organization just 10 ppl running whatever and 0 communication needed. Thats literally what stops most ppl from doing raids or strikes, we just want to jump in and play not communicate and learn builds. If they can do that and then retroactively do that to the old raids then the population for raids and strikes will grow. Much like t1 fractals are easy enough to get ppl in and the if they wanna stick around and learn more they will. The other thing is 3rd party stuff, ppl dont like it, in game or nothing. It still boggles my mind that games like ddo and lotro have in game voice comms but gw2 never added it, not that they should now since discord is the best thing created for it but still lol. Also there is so many things they can add that have been asked for over the years that i wouldn't be disappointed if its not raids.

    Also, I just got to the "tuning" part, and I have some news for you: tuning passes over SOTO content are never gonna happen. Maybe one tweak and that's all. The devs are already on the next content drill. The conveyor belt is rattling forward at max speed. EoD stuff has been abandoned since the Tunnel, not to mention anything older. There are bugs and glaring issues still in the game from years ago. The dev time is already allocated to the next expansion. It's over.

    It is very clear at this point that from the devs working on the mini-expansions Team A is mostly okay and decent, but Team B is outright bad. SOTO at launch was many times above the follow up patches. The story pivot from Wizards stuff to the Demons was a bad decision and executed horribly. The maps were worse and worse. Team B is most likely skeleton crew without proper directon or support. Mark my word, the nex expansion will be exactly the same. Pretty decent at launch and then completely falling apart with the follow up patches. And of course, in the next one they are going to "redesign" another core system by breaking something funcional apart, taking away functionatity and selling it back to you -- just like they did with runes and relics. Not even mentioning the fact that new weapons thing doesn't come close to elite specs. None of them truly changed the gameplay in a meaningful way. Sigh.

    @mightyteapot keeps talking about allowing third party ui extensions, but these systems are some of the worst things about current WoW. The allowance of these extensions provide even larger barriers to entry for new players and parasitic systems exogenous to the game that people are forced to navigate. They should just increase flexibility of UI within the platform instead

    • @MightyTeapot
      @MightyTeapot  Месяц назад +5

      It's precisely the opposite, absolutely nobody outside of high end raiding or m+ cares about what addons people have and they massively increase accessibility both in terms of helping players understand encounters and allow them to customize their user experience for ease of gameplay. They are also trivial to navigate because of how well developed the community and resources are, you can install an interface which will be ready to go instantly in WoW in one click thanks to weakauras and addon managers.
      To compare this to GW2, the poor user interface causes the game to have a lot of things that create massive barriers to entry. Very notably tracking boons, conditions, your target, your own allies, unique status modifiers, trait activtations and much much more (and that's before talking about some of the unintuitive in game settings lol). That stuff makes GW2 FAR harder to get into and learn than WoW, even though WoW has much more challenging content than GW2.

      That's just not true, in your example the step up from CO CM to cerus CM is RIDICULOUS. It's unironically the same jump as if a player went from open world story to raid challenge modes immediately.
      The normal mode strikes are also just weird, very high HP, but very little mechanical punishment making them a drag for newer players and uninteresting for the midcore. CO CM just isn't a very good encounter and ToF CM is well out of reach for most players.
