Thanks for letting me be a part of this! Always happy to lend my voice to stuff. Bonus points for having it be about Zelda games I didn't know existed!
+Shado_Temple a surprise Shado appearance improved my Monday
Learn how to pronounce things, please.
^ Learn how to not be a petty twatwaffle who complains about nothing, please.
You have an AMAZING voice!
Shado_Temple so how would you play the zelda games
Limited time games? That's a load of BS.
Heh
oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh
So am I.
Nana-Kyoto I C wut Yew Dyd Thar
region locked BS
"Did you know there was a remake of Zelda for the SNES?"
"BS."
"Yes, exactly!"
Ancient Stone Tablets? They revealed sheikah slates in Breath of the Wild years ago and we never noticed
Hah!
F O R E S H A D O W I N G
Not only that but also voice acting? Game sounds cool as shit!
Also weather effects that make it harder to see!
Also the second zelda game to have voice acting
"Games preservation is important." ~ Community
"lol" ~ Nintendo
I'm interested in how these titles were ever captured and put into a rom.
The Satellaview had a function that allowed you to store the game data of a single game of your choice onto the cartridge in order to prepare for the live broadcast ahead of time. In 1999 ROM collectors were fortunate enough to come into contact with Japanese players who had stored those games during the original broadcasts and allowed them to dump the game data and directly modify it for translation/other effects for everyone to enjoy these games.
The games first had to be downloaded to a memory pack from the satellite service. People downloaded the games to play them and never overwrote the contents of the cartridges with other games. These surviving copies were then dumped.
SemihAki I was, until you said IGN
What? I played this Zelda games in a emulator.
Dai 大 wait, now I'm thinking, if we inserted this ROMs in a flashdrive for the SNES would they work?
And of course Nintendo can't just rerelease all of the old Satelleview content because they're allergic to money.
Actually because their partnership with St. Giga went out on a sour note. The credits of the BS Zelda ROM specifically say that St. Giga owns part of the copyright to it, I can imagine the same is true of all the other games that were exclusive to their service, and that's the only explanation I can think of for Nintendo porting the 8-bit Zelda 1 to GBA instead of using the assets from BS Zelda for a faithful 16-bit remake.
And that's another reason I like (and also dislike) Nintendo; they have so many cash cows, but they refuse to milk them to death.
Sega is the opposite, lol.
@@StevenUlyssesPerhero They were able to remake the BS Fire Emblem game, and more recently directly reference the BS-X with a costume in Odyssey
This was actually really interesting and informative. Great video!
Thank you, really appreciate your support!
Wow! So around this time period there were also A link To The Past Link A Link Between Worlds! It's like for some reason Hyrule was really important then. Wait! So who destroys Ganon in this game. No! Link is the only one who has the triforce of courage and the only one that weilds the dark slayer to seal Ganon away.
Nevermind, seen the stone tablet part now.
Joshua S.G.G. this is a hack...oh boy
they should add these games on the nintendo switch
With the orchestrated music and voice acting thank you!
Superstephanomario SSM fuck off mario
The World what?
ive played some roms of these. theyre not that good in the form i saw. we're really not missing much. theyre all just the same places with some not so compelling differences. thats my opinion.
Jesse Darty Well fuck your opinion.
I'm sorry but this BS system seems so GOD DAMN COOL
Aku Rohula, It'd actually do really well these days. The internet would make such a service way easier to support, and no special hardware would be needed. A game that was updated weekly would probably generate a ton of hype and do great, especially if Nintendo was behind it.
+japzone We call that Splatoon.
Gamebro I was thinking a more story driven game. Rolling out a 52-part story over a year would be interesting. Sort-of like a playable TV show.
@japzone: What would be the point of limiting it to a set time though? We can get digital downloads nowadays, it's certainly better than being forced to play at a certain time. The Satellaview is a cool idea, but one that I think would be pointless to implement in modern times, now that internet access is so widespread.
Well, what if the broadcast started at a certain time but ended around midnight each day? You could play it any time while the broadcast was going, but even with internet access you wouldn't be able to play it until the broadcast started again.
"B.S. an abbreviation of the term BULLSHIT"
I seriously thought he was gonna say that
James Quinonez same 😂
James Quinonez "Bullshit Zelda"
Same xD
i first heard about this on game scoop a couple of weeks ago, they kept saying people should play zelda bs and i thought they were just not letting go of a joke that wasn't funny...
I remember being younger and hearing about BS titles for emulator and for a very long time I thought games like "BS Zelda" meant "Bull Shit Zelda" :P
I love this channel, this is such a marvelous and interesting niche thing to know and the concept is pretty great.
"Bullshit: The Legend of Zelda". Sounds appealing enough
It's actually called Skyward Sword.
Harrison Scott Nice!
Harrison Scott OW! The Skyward Sword fanboy within me just got slammed, and it hurt!
As a big fan of Skyward Sword, I have to admit that was clever.
Yup. XD
Wow, I never knew about these games at all. Great video!
Nice video! Pretty awesome voice relaying all that information too.
Over 20 years ago, Nintendo was actually on the cutting edge of entertainment. Now, they are in the online Stone Age.
Pretty much. Instead of releasing their old games at affordable prices in a good quanitity/any platform, they're releasing a few hit titles at extortionate prices and charging you for very basic online.
@@DerpySnake How is that any different from what Sony and Microsoft are doing?
Sony aren't really charging you that much for their old PS1 games, but they are bad on on PS2 front. And then there's Microsoft that, to my knowledge, isn't releasing old games at all. But we're not talking about those two, we're talking about Nintendo.
@@DerpySnake You were making the claim that the price for Nintendo's classic games and online services amounts to extortion, and I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion.
Although I don't play games online often I do have a subscription for Xbox Live. While the Xbox One does have more online functionality than the Switch, Microsoft charges far more for yearly subscription than Nintendo does.
It's around 12 dollars for an N64 game that you could either download for free or get with an n64 and possibly with other games. Basically, they charge you quite a lot for old games they didn't edit and they don't even sell you all of em.
thanks for this vid. I really thought I've played all LoZ games. Keep it up man appreciate ya!
Hey, thanks! Glad you liked it! :)
Really cool, nice video.
This is actually amazing. This seems like it was sort of ahead of it's time!
known about this for years but it still blows my mind everytime i think about it
This was very interesting, thanks
This was actually amazing to see and hear about!
Nice to see ol' Shado_Temple moving up in the world.
This guy's got one heck of a voice. I'll bet he would sound right at home as the narrator for an action movie trailer.
The narrator of this video has an amazing voice.
These BS-Zelda games are really cool, I've played them via emulation.
Oh man I never knew any of this. This is just so freaking amazing to learn about. I can't believe a system like this existed back then.
Wow.... I honestly wondered what that socket was at the bottom of my SNES.
Truly enlightening.
showed up in my recommended but not my sub feed, lucky to catch this so soon
broadcasting is the most interesting idea i've heard in a long time
it could make a game feel so epic and real
Yo Shado_Temple I didn't think I'd see you here, great job on this video!
The Satellaview was actually pretty cool, wish there was something like it today
Great video. Im so glad finally someone talks about the BS and satellaview, especially the zelda games. I remember playing the remake of the first game in this, only that you can choose between a boy or a girl and it was time based.
Shados voice is so soothing
Awesome video
this stuff is beautiful and was well ahead of it's time ;-;...*rubs tears away*
Damn this was fascinating!
this man voice is so good perfect for this episode on Zelda games that are Japan exclusives
The dungeonmaps spell out the name of the broadcaster, "St. Giga"
Y'all gotta check out Shado's streams. He's a hilarious streamer, and obviously has a beautiful voice. It's so awesome to see him voicing a DYKG episode.
I remember playing those stone tablet broadcasts like 3-4 years ago. I discovered them and had to play them, to my surprise I found roms for them.
Would be interesting to see the Heroes of Light from those games into future Zelda games, be it as a cameo or only mentioned, I'd enjoy a DLC/Event of them for Hyrule Warriors.
HOLY FUCK I KNEW IT WAS SHADOW BEFORE THE TITLE, I FUCKING LOVE ZELDATHON
I feel like Nintendo should make another Satellaview-like product or application for the Switch and release it internationally, in all honesty. It sounds cool-- especially the SoundLink system!
I would like to see Region locked cover the Fire Emblem BS episodes. They are rarely talked about so it would've been cool hearing a bit about them.
Shadow Temple sounds like a superhero.
Hi Mark!!!
Also, I'm here pretty early!
This voice over clashes so much with the light hearted attitude of the show.
I personally believe that this expansion for games on the nes are fantastic, very informing video, thank you!
what is that music!? the music in this video is awesome! Especially that last one!
Happy May everyone! I hope you can make this better than last month!
Where did you get the covers of these Zelda songs? They're amazing!
this was really interesting actually, I never knew about this!
I would love to see a did you know gaming about the kings quest series
OH MAN SHADO TEMPLE GETTING SOME SPOTLIGHT
Why yes I would like to hear more of this awesome voice
Now I want to see the new timeline with these included.
I played the Ancient Stone Tablet game and the Mario USA BS games. They're really interesting, I think that I'm going to play them again.
OHHHH That silky buttery voice! Always sounds great, especially when reading donations. Shame we can't see these games at Zeldathon.
A video exclusively on BS games would actually be pretty cool since there are a lot of interesting titles released. You got stuff like F-Zero 2, a Kirby minigame collection, a port of Excitebike with Mario characters, and a dozen other oddities.
I can't believe I've never heard of these!
Now I want to find those ROMs and play the BS Zeldas. Thanks for opening up this can of worms for me :)
That's pretty cool, I've never even heard of these
Wow, just wow. I knew that BS Zelda existed but all I knew about it was that it was the first Zelda game remastered. I had no idea it was a broadcast game that had real-time events happen and high quality sound or voice overs. And I never even knew about the stone tablets game. Tons of real-time events! This was truly informative. I wonder if maybe someone could set up a server on a machine that would broadcast it to a computer that emulates the game and trigger events like how the original did only over the internet. Maybe not voice overs or music (unless they were recorded somehow) at least the events.
Thanks to MSU-1 there are full english voice overs for the BS games now that can be played on real hardware and emulators that support MSU-1
This is actually really cool and creative for way back in the day. Was this capable with Dial Up back in the day? Couldn't have done this with the 64 I guess data would be too much?
Holy crap, this live broadcast idea is brilliant!! They should really bring it back now that this kind of technology should be more accessible. I love the idea of playing during timed events. I wouldn't make it so exclusive though, like you could still play it outside the broadcast but you miss out on the live events and such.
Holy cow, it's Shado Underscore Temple. :O
I've been looking for a working ROM for the Ancient Stone Tablets for nearly a decade. Thanks.
I LIKE THAT INTRO A LOT
I remember somebody created a cartridge of BS The Legend of Zelda. (The one referred to as the "3rd Quest") I believe it was a reproduction cart. It wasn't extremely expensive, but I forgot where I found it.
It my BOI Shado minus the w underscore Temple 👏👏👏
Waaaaayyyy ahead of it's time!
Yes! More Ancient Stone Tablets love. Now put that game on Eshop damn it!
I’d love to see an episode of Region Locked episode on *Godzilla: Kaijuu Daikessen* for the Super Famicom
I'd want to see a Region Locked on Mother 3 and maybe Mother 1, although it was recently localized.
Are there plans on an episode on Genealogy of the Holy War or Thracia 776 in the future
ancient stone tablets?
the sheikah slate has been staring at us for years
You should talk about the Famicom Detective Club series next.
His voice would be great for narrating movie or video game trailers
Alright i got something to play now thanks DYKG.
I've played this before , the emulated version of course. It was beautiful.
tingle's Ballón trip is actually really good
fascinating. ive never even heard of this.
Blowing my mind. Didn't know any of this
I thought I've played every Zelda game in existence but I guess I need to play more
I'm not complaining
Wow, I love your voice, are you a professional?
you're a professional aren't you.
Anyways fantastic video!
You have a great voice for radio. Somewhat similar to Jon St John's iconic voice.
I wish we still had things like this, imagine playing old games, knowing that people had set up events to occur.
I've heard of these games before a long time ago, it's a cool little piece of history although I'm not a big zelda guy. I've only beaten the first NES game and I'm just not that into the series as a whole.
Riz2336 you played one of the worst then
it's cryptic and stupidly hard
the others are completely different
A modern version of this would be such a sick rif on Twitch integration.
Man, Nintendo always impresses me with their originality and creativity. Grew up playing NES and SNES but never knew any of this.
That is pretty wild.
This guy's voice is so damn smooth. I want him to narrate a training video for a shitty factory job.
You should do a region locked video on Kirby Super Star Stacker for the Super Famicom.
I'm a little surprised Nintendo didn't make some minor coding changes and release these as a bundle collection on the Wii U.
Huh, I wouldn't mind a remastered Zelda one. No mechanical changes but a slight brush up of the graphics, would be neat to see.
thats crazy as heck. Had no idea.
5:38 This might have inspired Voice Acting in Breath of the Wild.
Is this what Brendaniel would sound like if he wasn't so congested all the time?
This just proves how important preservation of video games is. If it weren't for the Satellaview having the function to store game data prior to the broadcast, the entire BS-X library would have faded into complete obscurity outside of a few Japanese game mag scans and maybe a single page of Nintendo Power/Nintendo Magazine System/Nintendo Official Magazine.
^ Just to name a few game mags of the time
What was the melody around the ending of the video? I think I know it, but I can't remember the name
