The fact that a game never released in the West has an official English dub in which one of the major characters is a duck with Cartman's voice that calls the protagonist a "wetass" has got to be one of the most odd and humorous bits of gaming trivia I've ever stumbled across.
Poinie's Poin looks like it could have been made for the Sega Dreamcast.
Technically the PS2 and the Dreamcast are in the same generation of consoles
Actually looks like fun.
@@GhalidiusTrident the dreamcast is really underpowered in comparison tho, it's more of a competence for the ps1
John V reminds me of gamecube. I needa get into ps2 and dreamcast
@@Melkior97 It's a middle ground between the PS1 and PS2 era, but it doesn't beat the PS2 in any shape or form, not even plygon count.
It's better to think of it as a late N64/PS1 competitor rather than the worst console of the next era, the low game count doesn't make him any favors either
Take a shot every time he says poin
No, I like my liver!
I'm drunk at the thought of this...
No, take a shot every time he says poi.
I remember playing ChainDive on a PS2 demo disc and loving it. I kept playing it over and over until I could get a perfect combo on the one stage it included. I still wish it had been localized
You never know. Maybe it still can.
Poinie's Poin, amazing lil gem. Chain Dive, crazy title 😅 plus the connections both titles have, is incredible. Buried treasures
What are the connections?
Wait I totally had an English demo of chain dive from a magazine demo disk. I replayed that level so much it was amazing, I always wondered what happened to that game.
SAMEEEE
@@EternalSeabed now i really wanna get it running on something so i can pay it in its entirety
What great gameplay to open the video with.
I'm glad someone big like DYKG is covering ChainDive. Definitely a rare gem in the PS2 library. I first played it on the OPM demo disc back in the day, I only recently got a copy of the full game within the last year or so. What I find odd is the fact that the manual has a credits list in full English and the game apparently got a Russian fan translation. Would love to see someone pick up the game and do a full English translation or even an official release down the line.
This game has an extra rare Asian version which comes with English instructions, but the language is still Japanese.
4:50 you just HAD to use that clip of Cartman. 😂
One of the most terrifying episodes of South Park.
I played ChainDive on a Demo Disc when I was little! I always wanted to know more about it but couldn't remember the name!
Yes, same here.
Europeans knows how it is with never getting certain games, especially when it comes to RPGs!
Xenosaga 1 and 3 but for some reason we got 2
If you're European, then sorry :(
And even when we get them they are often expensive/rare in a few years
Poinie's Poin is a game I've been trying to get my hands on but it's so hard to find online. Thanks for featuring it! I think it's definetly a game that should get more attention becsuse of how absurd it is.
TheHunterPersian Poinie needs full attention & love, don't you think?
Ah I remember buying Mr. Mosquito for 2 euros in mint condition, best deal ever!
Never heard of Poinie Poin before, im definitely picking it up!
Good luck.
Vienna The Grill
good luck on finding it. its not an easy title to find. if you do it wont be cheap
I have a feeling that I would have liked Poinie's Poin if I played it when I was a kid
Poinie's Poin sounds like someone with a nondescript northeastern US accent saying "Porny's Porn."
I remember playing ChainDive on a OPM Demo Disk and fucking loved it, hoping for a western release. I was crushed when we got a Kappa Fishing Game instead
I remember spending hours playing and replaying that demo i loved the little bit of the game i was able to play. Id completely forgotten about the game until this video
Same. I played the hell out of the ChainDive demo, and what did we get overseas? FINNY THE FISH.
@@christophermorin9036 I was so pissed.
Don't know if it's just me, but I love the intro this series has, only because it has Kirby Super Star music.
The music just works
I see you everywhere wtf
@@jabariwiththebois5765 You can't escape the moon
@@toddbot7545 You are always there as well. Todd what do you want from me? IM NOT buying Fallout 76!
@@jabariwiththebois5765 But You are buying skyrim
Love the skits at the end. You guys really went out on this one. Also I cannot believe these guys didn't work with Treasure.
"Hello, and welcome to region locked"
Love that intro 😁
I love poiny just because of "Hell-neows"!
I touch little what? I can't figure out what b9ts is supposed to say
I couldn't even tell Chain Dive played in 2D until he said it was! I haven't seen 2D blended into a 3D world that well since Kirby 64
Thank you Vinny for cursing us with the knowledge of this games existence
Oh well Japan never got games available in the us either. Such
Masterpieces like jimmy neutron attack of the twonkies
That game even had widescreen mode. Truly a masterpiece.
So basically ChainDive is Bionic Commando...but with Sharks.
I couldn't read that without caddicarus' voice
BUT WITH SHAAAHKS
There's just something magical about having a duck that sounds like Cartman.
take a shot every time greg says poin (including the one in poinie)
Great video, as always.
I remember hearing about Chain Dive after modding my PS2, but for whatever reason, I didn't think to import it. Not sure why, because it looks awesome!
Chaindive is an absolute classic that should be played by everyone. I first heard about it from one of the demo discs that came with opm. And finally decided to check it out in it's entirety. I had a blast playing through the game over a couple of weeks.
How many times was 'poin' mentioned... I'll have to find a copy of this
I remember Mister Mosquito from when I was little and I forgot the name, I swear to god no one knew what I was talking about and I felt like I dreamt it up. Thank you for finally finding the name of the game.
yeah i remember playing it too but damn i could never get past the grandpa
How about a “games Europe never got” or “games Australia never got” etc. I think I’d be interesting
it could be the same video... they should have called it games not released in the west, or outside japan.
but i agree with you, those titles would be interesting.
I loved mr mosquito as a kid, it definitely stuck in my head.
All I know is, if i ever poin the poin poin again, I'm poinably going to poin my poins out!
Whoa. I remember ChainDive! I live in the U.S., but I played a demo disc with it on it. It was probably either EGM or OPM sometime in 2004. I remember it being separate from the main content of the disc tucked into a section labeled "Import" or something like that. So wild seeing it here again.
If I ever hear the word "Poinie" again I'm going to go into cardiac arrest
Will you guys do a video (update) on the Region Locked book? I would love to know the whole process that went into making it happen.
Beat Poinie's Poin - definitely a little bizarre. The game provides you 'hints' in boss battles if you're stuck, but unlike the rest of the games script, it's in entirely broken engrish, rendering them almost useless unless you can decipher it.
Very epic video
I've played chaindive and I got to say it's actually one of my favorite games from Japan I can't wait to own a copy for myself 😄
Finally got a copy of ChainDive about a year ago, and I loved it! Such a shame it was never released in the West
I had a demo disk with ChainDive it. Always wondered why I couldn't find a full release copy
Both those games looks so fun.
.....Anyone remember Underworld for PS2 based on film franchise of the same name?.... Yeah that was a bad PS2 game that was only release in Europe for some reason...... I also remember there being a He-man PS2 game that was decent, yet only released in Europe.
There was also Jackie Chan Adventures on the PS2 that was planned to come to the US but was cancelled for some reason and instead ended up being released only in Europe.
@@MrDmoney156 Weird.... You'd think they would want to sell that Jackie Chan game in Asian territories as well, since he's very popular in China...... then again, there was a hard video game ban in China during that era of consoles.
Oh shit really? That's interesting.
You guys don't mind right. You still got skyrim
I would get skyrim, but it's just not on any gaming system. Maybe if you released on every system I would buy it, maybe even more than once.
@@demetreasandrews we plan a toaster release next weel
its not on ps2, doesn't count.
Todd, if you want my money then remaster Morrowind.
@@TheNegronomicon
Dude that response was 100% pure #Savage 😎
These won't be as Knack 3. So it isn't that big of a loss
There was a demo released of ChainDive in the US years ago.
why on earth do a bunch of the Poinie environments look like Naxxramas or the Undercity from WoW o.O
Anyone else that watches on chromecast get bad AV lag with DYKGs videos, or is it just me?
ChainDive looks super interesting, I'd actually really like to play that.
Also, when I saw the same people worked on Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and Bayonetta, I just went "Of. Course."
At least they improved the fast paced combat system during on bayonetta
I can’t wait for the book and my custom sfc to come out.
that chain dive game looks really fun
Fk yeah it does!
Chaindive has such a great soundtrack.
I can't see a loss in those games not making it
The front cover on Poinie says Dooope! Addicted! Idk maybe it was that
That's like your shitty opinion man
A crumb of Pionie please ma'am
Wow. Poin is Super Princess Peach but a few years before.
Poinies poines kinda reminds me of strech panic
Great. Now I want Poinie's Poin.
Wait, poiny was in English?
Could you do Stretch Panic?
How did you record this footage? How did you get such graphical fidelity?
They probably had imported copies of the games
Emulation
what is that keijo game in the beginning 0:08
It's called Super Galdelic Hour
@@nicholastorres6716 Thanks, you my hero
Love
Poinie's Poin, great game.
You know what little known game should get some DYKG attention?
Ribbit King? Ever hear of it? It’s fairly obscure. It got an English release but documentation on the game here is very small.
It sucks that America never got the G1 Transformers game for PS2. The game was originally from Japan and even had English voices. Instead we got Transformers Armada for PS2.
Transformers Armada was a great Transformers game imo.
Chain dive looks really cool
Poinie's Poin.
That game was weird as hell, lol!
Did you Know Gaming on When They Cry series when?
The subtle voice references of South Park characters I find funny obviously XD
poinies poin, POIN'S everytime he poins his poinie
Chain Dive was definitely on a PlayStation Magazine demo disk, as my brother and I played the crap out it (the demo, that is)
Now I'm just kind of wondering if there's a physical way to buy poinies poin.
Ebay?
@@rickylovesyou I tried there already but they didn't have any. At the very least great minds think alike.
So the first game is kinda like that Princess Peach game but you can change the emotions of someone else
They had to make the eclairs living creatures. Great, now I'm going to be imagining this pink...thing heartlessly chasing these eclairs down and eating them as they scream bloody murder.
seems pretty hard to find Poinie's Poin
what a shame two great games that definitely would have been appreciated over here even if they are short
ChaonDive is pretty much Rodea The Sky Soldier!
two other PS2 games that never made it out of Japan are Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix and Grand Prix 2 and I wanted to play them lolol
I am SO MAD we never got ChainDive, I played that Demo on the Playstation Magazine demo disc and it was AMAZING!
Instead we got another demo that was on the same disc....
we got Finny the Fish.
FINNY THE FUCKING FISH!!!
You came here from Vinny didnt you?
guilty! lol
HEY GREEN
Poinie's Poin reminds me a lot of Pikmin
The Patron seg could use some captions
Greasy Tales..? I swear that is those voice actors
I could really use a yellow poin right now.
Why do you guys still link the food channel if you haven't uploaded in months
Chaindive looks really cool shame they didn't release it outside Japan
Dragon Rider Twinblade with a Frostbite infusion?
Scrub.
Can you featured Come On, Baby on the PS2 only in South Korea next time? :(
And was released on the Arcade and Windows PC
Question is Poinie's poin region free?
Nope, it only works on Japanese PS2 consoles.
I had and have both these titles and can attest that the west did not miss out on much. Both arent very good.
I played ChainDive once on a PS2 demo disc (which probably stands as the games only North American presence), it was alot of fun but one of those games you had to brute force through alot of Japanese text before you could actually play the game ^^;
It's DamaCHI not Dama see. They even say CHI in the main song that plays in the game.
Evil twin, alone in the dark 4
America also never got phoenix games wonderful titles such as Animal Soccer World and London Cab Challenge.
Poin, poin, poin, poin, poon, poin
Did Chaindive inspire Attack on Titan?
Perfect
3 mins in and I got 4 ads?
The Sakura Wars remake it still makes me sad and I'm still salty
