That underwear censorship for Dragonball was in the anime too, so it's actually consistent.
Not quite: it was only censored after being re-released by Funimation. Before that it was left intact (because who cares about it being Women Panties in the early 90's...it's underwear, and the character would only have ever asked for that judging from his previous exploits), and obviously Funi was being Funi just like they currently are with their stupid censorship bullshit.
@@DxBlack
Huh, odd, I recall seeing it in the 90s and Oolong ask for comfortable underwear, then again I dunno when Funimation got their paws on it.
@@DxBlack, ... Eek.
@@DxBlack nope. In the 90s Ocean Dub it was censored too. Oolong still asks for comfortable underwear.
I remember watching as a kid. And I have the original Ocean Dub DVD and it's on there too.
@@kurisu7885 you definitely remember correctly.
Anybody else think it’s odd when you see the commercials for these old games because you’ve never seen them despite being alive and watching tons of kids shows at the time?
Yes! Very same over here in the my head.

I'm glad they made all of the Mario Advance 4 e-reader levels available on the Wii U virtual console version.
Same! Probably one of the bigger reasons I'm not gonna sell my Wii U, since Nintendo gave up on Virtual Console. One of my favorite Mario games, with 30 additional levels? The game was already meaty as it was!
They added them in? I had no idea. Since I owned the game, I didn't think about buying it on the wii u. That and I had the gameboy adapter on the gamecube to pop it on tv if I wanted. I wish I knew that then. I might have to dig it out now and see if it's still possible to buy it.
@@MysticalTemptress should be, Wii U's eShop is still up
@@Infindox oh good, I'm going to nab that quick then.
That’s cool but it sucks how they removed Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Black and White
I'm Native American and can tell you that from my point of view, I find it more offensive that the our cultural references were removed. And not offended in the slightest that they were in the game to begin with. Though I can't speak for for everyone, we are a tough people and something like a pixelated headress would never hurt our feelings at all. Even if we were to be painted in a bad light, we know our own and we shine without anyone's approval.
You. I respect you. Keep on doing your thing, dude!
It’s always sad when censorship like that happens. A similar situation happened with Looney Tunes, they got rid of Speedy Gonzales because they thought he was offensive/outdated but it turns out he was loved by Hispanic viewers and they were upset to see him go.
Yeah like getting rid of a Crazy Horse reference seems to do more harm than good. Taking out a native american that killed a bunch of white people so you're not "offensive" just seems like you're trying to not offend white people..
Nintendo of America is racist.
I understand.. As a black person I feel like we need more culture video game not just Japanese
5 seconds into the video and I'm already flooded with nostalgia with that little GBA jingle
The jingle take me right back to 2001-2003.
@@Silvergun_Raven definitely man. that and the gamecube startup sound takes me back
The Play Yan is actually referenced in the Nintendo 3DS Sound app. When playing a track, pulling the rope at the center of the bottom screen will change the top screen, one of them refers to the Play Yan's interface
The little Play Yan character also appears in the game Rhythm Tengoku for the GBA in the "Night Walk" song
@@EarthboundBenjy That was my first thought, cool to see the origins of one of Nintendo's more obscure characters!
I thought they were an original character for rhythm tengoku for the longest time. Guess I was wrong.

“Surprisingly, this wasn’t the only Native-American related censorship in a Nintendo-produced racing game for the Game Boy Advance” god damn I love me some extremely specific censorship trivia lol
If I had a nickel for every time a Nintendo racing was censored because of cultural insensitivity relating to American Indians I’d have two nickels... which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice
I mean cruising in the USA was censored a good bit too
Hah I get the reference
What about Smash Bros. Ultimate for the same reason?
@@chopsmccartney6786 Yes. I remember seeing the news, and thinking "Why?"
I wish people weren’t so sensitive, I honestly approve of anything Native American related because it gives us a little representation or recognization because we have very little in media
Jaysus I got quite far into the video before I realized I know this lad hahaha
I knew reading the comments was a good idea
You know Conar eat pant ? I must subcribe to you now !
Rt why are you here
Hey joe
SUS😂😂😂😂MEGA SUS😂😂😂😂
9:24 So THAT's where that background in the 3DS music player came from. Interesting.
"Ports of both Doom and Doom 2 on the GBA were censored as well"
Yeah, they made it so you couldn't see shit. You don't have to censor blood if you can't tell what youre looking at.
Darrell Gardner you can see what your looking at! It’s just 32 bit
@@colingznetwork781 you mean its shit
It's weird that Mario Kart: Super Circuit actually was censored.
i think super mario kart is censored too
I'm not surprised, really.
+Travis Skaalgard Portraying Native Americans as the enemy? That’s a paddlin’.
@@wayge They removed alcohol from the U.S. version.
Is it though? It would be like if the Japanese version had blackface ,of course it would be censored
I don't know about you, but crazy horse sounds like a great name for a fast futuristic car
Also its good to know that imdiams/native americans exist im the far future
@MultiTarded name checks out.
That’s the name of a strip club around here.

Definitely didn’t see this voiceover coming, this guy definitely knows his way around bonanza city
I'm friends with him on the Wii U apparently
Who's doing the voiceover?
@@thenostalgiabusiness it literally says in the title
"Crosses were replaced with ankhs"
So you replaced Christian religious iconography with Kemetic religious iconography? lolwut
Vanessa Kindell well, yeah. It’s much less likely to offend large groups of people. (Not saying I necessarily agree with it but I understand the logic)
And yet Japan censored ankhs as well like in yugioh. Different Japanese company but it's still weird how different religious censorship is treated when crossing over to the west.
I actually have a Game Boy Micro, and I must say, it's okay.
It's a rare item these days that goes for around $150-$200.
I have a micro... It is ok
I still remember seeing the game boy micro at Walmart in the video games section

Keeps talking about how Mario's e-reader cards prices are high... then says the complete set is $60.
Me: that isn't high at all
Says the E3 variety e-reader pack is $300
Me: see, that's expensive.
I'm glad you put "me" in your comment. That way I know it was you who said it.
reddit moment
Good for you, you're in a position where $60 for a pile of paper isn't a lot.
@@TheTheninjagummybear meanwhile you guys are paying $60 for layers of plastic? They still encode data just like a disk, not to mention your also paying for official art displays. If something is below what someone can make at McDonald's in a day, then yes, I don't consider it a lot.
@@ughcreature hey, when you have people asking $80 for a single animal crossing card amiibo or $120+ each for cards currently relevant to trading card competitive scenes. Asking $60 for the entirety of a rare pack is not a lot in comparison.

Watching this on the toilet and hearing the gameboy intro gave me nostalgia. So much gaming in the shitter.
Funnily enough, that version of Totaka’s Song would end up as K.K. Song in the Animal Crossing series. 😊
I remember having the Gameboy adapter for the GameCube and co-op playing Wind Waker with a friend. I could only drop bombs and show hidden chest but still it gave the game a whole new dynamic.
When I heard that startup noise it brought back so many memories 😌
I think that in Doom GBAm one of the factors other than censoring for them to make the normal death animation play when shot w/ heavy atilleary was space...
I can say as a native American, I don’t understand some of these change’s I just like that we have a character in the game. I guess some don’t find it funny and see it as mocking us, such a shame
NoA is racist, plain, & simple.
Extreme Wreck 2000 racist how?we could’ve had our own character instead we attack them because we feel entitled? Sorry if I’m wrong
Edit: if they could represent the character better it would be fine, i like the one in killer instinct my fav character
@@xavierp8587 Oh, I see. Honestly, it isn't a bad representation of a Native American. He looks to be a warrior of justice fighting for a good nation.
After all the years with Greg, DAZZ, and Remix, you finally brought an interesting name after all this time! Thank you!
The Crazy Horse one is interesting in that it almost seems like the change could be over concerns white Americans, rather than Native Americans, wouldn't like it. Although NoA may just have/had a blanket policy to change real world Native American references in general (at least outside of historical context).
Nah, NoA is filled with racist people with racist computers that have racist consoles.
It was mostly blanket policy. It's still around today.
@@undeadwaluwugi758 Racist blanket policy?
The underwear dialogue from Dragon Ball isn't censorship within the game. It was the dialogue censored in the anime (not sure about the manga). So it's not the game censoring but rather the original source material. Except the sprite of course.
Alternate Title: Squidward talks about bad words on Gameboy
2:00 i remember watching the show as a kid and Oolong wishing for BULMA's underwear, THAT was the better versiom LoL

I'm about to buy that Play-Yan. Dude, you have no idea how hyped this makes me!!!!
Wish there was more info about the Pokemon E-Reader cards, especially the TCG ones that allowed you to play minigames if scanned!
I love how MegaMan Zero music was used in the background! Those 4 games where like solid gold!
The ZX sequals are awesome too. Much less dark story-wise, but the gameplay was awesome and had much less insta-kill pits!
What part was it at, and what is it called
@@MegaSceptile99 It starts around 3:53, and I believe it's the song that plays while Elpozio gives his speech at the beginning of MegaMan Zero 2.
Not too sure the song name though, but I'll look into it and get back to you! :)
9:09 "This is unsual, as the song is usually hidden within a game, rather than being blatantly on show."
The K.K. Slider 3DS Theme has it on loop. (Don't take this as a correction, as I doubt many people bought that theme specifically)
In regard to the eReader cards for "Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3", the levels using the cards are unlocked by default in the Wii U VC release of the game, so you can still play them that way today.
Most of the "censorship" in the GBA Doom ports were just due to hardware limitations. It would make no sense to censor the games otherwise, since they were still rated M for Mature.
Was it really impossible to have red blood on the GBA?
But the GameBoy Advance versions are rated T for Teen. Plus, there's the green blood. I don't think the color red had anything to do with hardware restrictions.
All this censorship just feels so petty.if they had one in a wheelchair I wouldn't be offended I would be like cool wheelchair
The GBA was the first handheld I ever owned. Have fond memories of playing Harry Potter 3 on it, which was a surprisingly good RPG!
ALL the Harry Potter handheld RPG games are GREAT games entirely!
Crazy Horse is a badass name for a vehicle...
I've never heard a boss name and backstory being more metal than Samael ; "Venom Of God"
Sunset Wilds was a nice course, and it’ll probably never be remade.
@Himallo Grey yes, actually!
Pretty sure the Kirby e-reader card was also in a magazine that FoxBox used to promote their animation lineup
Yep, I still have mine
Yess perfect timing ! and great information as always. Also Who has gba official game promo tee's for sale
As a kid, I really wanted an E-Reader. To my eyes, the idea of unlocking levels with cards seemed like the coolest thing ever.
IS THAT MY BOY, CONNOREATSPANTS!
eat pant conar
I found an Eon Ticket for $3 because someone sold it with the Ruby & Sapphire NP guide, and the store owner didn't look the guide over :]
Super cool that Connor is voicing this one
I learned so much. Love you guys.
Fun fact concerning Oolong: in the german syncronization of DBZ he wished for a hat with openings for his ears. No joke.
9:08 It is hidden, good luck trying to get that to play today [Totaka knew!]
holy crap I nabbed a copy of the eon ticket in its packaging for like 15 bucks on ebay 8 years ago I had no idea people were selling it for so much
As I recall from magazines back in the day, Tarzan, the Game Boy Color game based on the Disney animated movie of the same name, had some issues when played on GBA. It wasn't that it was incompatible but it did something with the GBC hardware that it couldn't do properly on GBA in backcompat mode.
OUR BOY CONNOR GOT A DYKG VIDEO LET'S GOOOOOO
Aw that GBC start up sound brings me back
Man the audio in the narration is terrible.
why does the guy sound like he's about to cry?
TIL there was an official mp3 peripheral for the GBA! I remember seeing (and still might have) a 3rd party one, but seeing a first party one was a real head trip.
Had no ideas about crazy horse. Theres a big ass mountain carving of him close to Mount Rushmore
At 9:00 that is in Link's Awakening. It plays when you go into the house of the guy with the golden leaves, and you don't do anything for about 1 minute.
AWWWWWWWW THAT CLASSIC GAMEBOY SOUND!
You guys should do a did you know gaming episode about yakuza series
I clicked on this video and when I heard Connor I got confused for a solid 5 seconds. I'm happy for you Connor you made it big buddy.
Oolong wishing for "comfortable underwear" is how it was changed in one of the more recent english dubs of the anime too
Video request:did you know gaming; the escapist
9:16 I've seen that little guy from Rhythm Heaven!! Did not realize his name is also Play-Yan! So cool that the mascot of a Japanese-only GBA MP3 player was a character in one of my favorite games!
*talks about how rare and valuable the mario e-reader cards are* "complete sets of all the cards can go online for as much as 60 dollars" - that's a surprisingly fair price :O
Now, let's just hope that the Battle Network E-Reader stuff is avaliable on the Battle Network Legacy Collection... :V
My dad got me a pack of Megaman and F-Zero cards when he was overseas. Pulled a Blackshadow who was my fave character at the time was so cool.
didn't even know there was a gba version of doom I'm gonna find it just to see what it is like
hey connor, big fan. been followed for a few years and you've become sort of a mentor to me. ive made the decision to follow in your footsteps and starting to eat pants. every morning for breakfast i take a bite of levi's jeans and i gotta say, i don't see how anyone couldn't live like this. i am now omnipotent. i see everything. i am one with the pants and have ascended further than even god himself. i feel powerful, thank you connor.
The confused pants eater on was pretty Pog
That Megaman Zero censorship is so stupid. They already had the blood-like oil in Megaman x4 cutscenes in the NA version.
10:18 Wow, a Pokemon RPG?! I was wondering when they would make one of those.
oh my goodness you guys managed to get in new narrators again
Still own my GBA SP. it has one of the best Dragon Ball games often overlooked. Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure, you all should play it, it’s a platforms.
Please do a Blazblue dykg
I still remember the day I bought the transparent GBA w/ birthday money. Absolutely loved that thing.
Funny story I actually own 6 Eon tickets which are still connected to my copy of Nintendo Power. It’s all brand new, I have it alongside my Pokémon Emerald collectors tin with the Battle Tower manual.
damn that blood in MMZ looks a little bit gore for a megaman game but is cool at the same time!
Ha nice. You actually get to play as Play-Yan in the minigame Night Walk in the Rhythm Heaven series (Tengoku version)!
I remember seeing some Super Mario Bros 3 card when I was working at my local Savers
This dude's muffled sounding mic bothers me
4:03 creepy how I was listening to this while writing a sentence on what I thought original meaning of the title "Son of Sam" meant.
I had Pokemon Emerald and was stuck on the Elite 4 for days, I gave up cause I ran out of heals. Still haven’t beat it to this day
Ah, a Nintendo dykg video is never complete without a Totakas song reference
I did not realize Play-Yan from the Rhythm Heaven games was originally from this! Neat!
I might still have my Eon Ticket somewhere but it was probably lost in a fire
Team Magma said "if we can't have it no one can."
Jokes aside, sorry about the fire and anything else you lost.
@@danieluranga6872 it was a few years ago and involved a storage building. No one was hurt but my family lost quite a bit including most of my collectables
Funny fact: The Wolfenstein levels in Doom 2 were censored but Wolf3d was released on gba with little to no censorship.
My favorite gameboy game was the night before christmas it was such a fun game
What if Totaka was secretly throwing shade at E-reader, with the reasoning that E-reader cards are gonna be so obscure that the song might as well be hidden
Good memories on this console
One GBA secret I never figured out: One the start-up if you press start + select + A +B simultaneously it plays a chime and deletes the Nintendo logo. I remember emailed about this to Nintendo when GBA was still new and they told me they had no idea what it was for.
I still got my gameboy advice sp and it's still good. 😀👍🎮
I really don't see the problem with the native american stuff. I mean "Crazy Horse" is a direct hommage to native american history and Mario Kart didn't had the message to hurt the shy guys with the feathers, fully assume the inworld use of native american culture or don't use it (look at the tipis in the background of the stage) as the opposite is quite insincere.
Also I agree with the removal of "blood" in Megaman Zero as Zero isn't a savage killer nor does it make sense for robots to have blood. It's just violence for the sake of violence and out of character.
@@chopsmccartney6786 the feather headdress was removed because use of headdresses (sacred and religious objects relegated to tribal leaders) in such a way is extremely disrespectful. It's the same reason we dont have crosses on shields or Muslim prayer chants in zelda anymore.
@@chopsmccartney6786 I think the real racism here is NoA censoring it. They're racist towards Americans by censoring good people. Crazy Horse was a good man, & they shall respect him, but NOPE, their racism got the better(or should I say WORSE) part of their brains!!!
You forgot that Mother 3 isn't bought to America
That’s not really a secret...
The fact the Shy guys were red didn't help with that. Kinda reminded me of Smash Ultimate's early image of a red G&W's forward smash.
*wearing red.
