Today, we're embracing the power of brain health to make you confident, clear and focused with our phenomenal guest today, Dr. Louisa Nicola, the neurophysiologist and human performance/billionaire brain coach. She is a powerhouse in revealing ways to better care for your brain and boost your performance at every level. This neuroscience expert has an all-access pass into the minds of top-tier athletes in the NBA and NFL.
We’re making brain health sexy and diving into its crucial role in our journey to becoming our own heroes, and the importance it holds in maintaining our 'badassery'.
“Train your brain to have a high-performing life.” -Louisa Nicola
Dr. Nicola reveals why avoiding stress management is destroying your brain health, how to keep your brain safe after 30, the #1 thing you can do to start optimizing your brain today.
Because I want to see you win in all areas of your life, homie, we even went deep on how critical sleep really is, and if you think a glass of wine is helping you sleep better, think again!
Ladies, we have to start having more conversations about brain health. Women are more likely to develop diseases of the brain such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. Though there may be no cure, there are things we can do starting now to start lowering those risks and start caring for our older, more badass selves.
As an extra bonus to keep the conversation going about the importance of women's brain health and useful hacks to help prevent Alzheimer’s, I’ve included a powerful conversation with Dr. Lisa Mosconi. We explore her groundbreaking work, 'The XX Brain,' and learn how to optimize your cognitive function at any age. Make sure you stick around for this empowering discussion!
NICOLA BRAIN QUOTES:
“The quality of your brain will dictate the quality of your life, [...] we need to have a high-performing brain to be able to fight off negative thoughts.”
“People are talking about Alzheimer’s disease as if it is a loss of memory, yes, but it is also a disease that robs you of who you are because you can’t stay present.”
“Lift hard, lift heavy, and do it about 3 to 4 times a week.”
“Exercise for the brain, that’s what’s going to keep it alive and thriving.”
“Put your brain in a safe environment and it will thrive.”
“I treat sleep as if it’s an Olympic game. Treat it as if you need to train for sleep, you need to warm up for sleep and you need to prepare for sleep the moment you wake up.”
“You can make more money with a higher-performing brain.”

WARNING: I will never ask for your contact info in the comments section, that is someone impersonating me!
When I found out I was being scammed for $90k by a man who claimed to be Kobe & Vanessa Bryant’s Estate Attorney, I went off! I called the cops, they said it was CIVIL, so I kicked them and him out of my house. He’s been living in Vegas the whole time & would claim to be flying in from Dubai. I wish I would’ve handled it differently. I should’ve kept calm to build a bigger case for the Las Vegas Metro PD. I’m vegan so my eating was good, but anyone who was being scammed thinking they’re investing in Aramco stock but it’s going straight into his pockets, would’ve lost their d@mn mind.
😂😂😂 Haven't humankind already seen everything. Kindness is all that good people prefer.
This woman is so spot on. When I exercise and sleep better my entire life feels better and I am way more confident.
Thank you so much for having me on your amazing podcast Lisa ❤
SERIOUSLY my pleasure girl!
These days is really tricky to talk about alcohol consumption and it's disrupting effect. Your message is really appreciated!
@@fredfeuerstein1647 Thank you ! I do believe we need to be speaking about this topic more openly.
and cast away the shame of wanting to live healthy
I loved this talk! And noticed that my certified fish oil is not the right dose, much too low. I searched up momentus labs and could not confirm on their website that their supplements are triple certified. Do you have more info on this?
I'M A GREEK AMERICAN GAL SMILING BIG AT THESE TWO CYPRIOT POWERHOUSES!!!! Bravo, Louisa & Lisa. THANK YOU BOTH!
oh yay!!! We TOTALLY geeked out and spoke Greek to eachother for like 10 mins!
Two Cypriot women absolutely killing it! This was such a great interview - you two should have a show together 🇨🇾 so many great takeaways. Bravo kopelles ❤
Watching in Cyprus on holiday ❤
100 percent put your brain in a safe environment and you will safe and peaceful it’s a beautiful feeling.
I believe the food we eat plays a huge role in our brain development and the way we feel mentally and physically, we need to stay on top of our thoughts 🤔 seriously I understand y she thinks the Brain is dumb we allow thought to flow unmanageable Great educational video ❤❤
There was a study I found.. I wish I remembered it because I even told my mom about it.. food is so important because it even starts at conception and what the mother eats even effects the DNA of the fetus… down to the grandparents.. this isn’t the report, but a quote from another one, “You are what you eat, the saying goes. And, according to two new genetic studies, you are what your mother, father, grandparents and great-grandparents ate, too.” I FOUND IT.. it’s a website called renewingallthings and it’s a study on epigenetics and, “The food you eat changes your genes and affects the next 3 generations after you!”
@@citygirl713fascinating.
I actually been doing carnivore/keto diet and my mental health issues I couldn't get control of with so many tactics....finally went away changing my food. Now I'm getting off medication and happier than ever. I was a 90s kid who grew up on the worse food you can imagine. I've had nothing but mental health and autoimmune issues like arthritis and fibromyalgia at the age of 12. Now 30 I've never been healthier. Finally have energy to get through the day with no pain.
@@citygirl713 A healthy diet can influence gene expression, but it does not change the actual DNA sequence within our genes. This field of study is known as epigenetics, which examines how environmental factors, including diet, lifestyle, and stress, can impact the activity of our genes.
@@lunaportia989 that’s what I wrote in my comment.. epigenetics .. if you reread I said epigenetics.. what I wrote in the beginning may be wrong because I didn’t know how to word it but towards the bottom I wrote it’s epigenetics and I quoted two articles.
100% true! Food affects our hormones, and our hormones affect how we feel.
This girl completely changed my mind about how I look after my brain 😍
Woohooooo!
"our brain should be at the mercy of us!" wow. this video is super informative. thank you!!
So glad it helped!
She’s incredibly helpful. Thank you for having her on.
I just love her honesty when she said " I smoke weed" love you for that!!!!
FANTASTIC video!!! God Bless you Lisa for your show! I am 65 years old and divorced twice. I am learning sooo much from your show. I feel that I am living my best life ever and you are a part of this!
I appreciate her talking about the brain's cleaning system, she is up to date in the field of neurology. Glad to hear someone finally talk about dopamin linked to movement not just as a reward oriented neurotransmitter.
Omg! The ball thing! I have NF1 and in December 2022 I was pretty much half paralyzed waist down and my hands were very weak. So while I was recovering at home I would throw a ball against the wall for my dog. And then started teaching myself to juggle with one hand. It has certainly helped! As well as doing PT twice a week. This is a great podcast! 🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼
Thanks so much for sharing your story! So impressed you took action homie!
Hi Dina, how's your day going with you?
So love and trust Louisa! Been taking creatine ever since I saw her post about it on instagram. Thank you for exposing more people to this brilliant woman!
I knew it!! I always said we need to be sleeping 7.5/8 hours a night! Loved this episode!
LouisaNicola has been a game change, she is a trailblazer with what she does. I've been able to learn so much, it took me 2 weeks of sleeping early and getting 8plus hours of sleep to finally feel strong again after being always tired for years. Lastly I stopped drinking and live minimal, I have been able to declutter most things in my life. Thanks to all I've learned from her.
I love how Lousia shoots it straight!
This was absolutely EPIC! Love her perspective on the brain. Best episode yet!! Thanks so much for this 🙌🏽👏🏽
Hands down one of the most powerful interview
This woman is incredible! I loved this episode
The availability of information contained in podcasts like this is one of the wonderful things about the time in which we live. Thank you. ❤
Oh this is gonna be GOOD.. and I’m not even five minutes in!!! THANK YOU..: I was literally googling how to control emotions and this video pops up on my feed!! Thank you, thank you, thank you 💗!
Haha omg love this!!
I wish the discussion included how the effects of childhood trauma fit into brain health as adults
Me too. Especially since the “doctor” claims that people who miss relationship red flags have done so because we have “lazy” brains.
Really. I’d be awfully curious to see the citation for that claim, since it’s the polar opposite of what’s said by every reputable and knowledgeable doctor or therapist I’ve listened to in the past year and a half I’ve even trying to understand why I stayed with my abusive ex for a decade and how my childhood trauma puts me at great risk for abuse.
Child abuse survivors don’t have “lazy” brains. We have untreated trauma. I too wish this had been addressed.
@@poison_plays
Trauma councilling is a deep rabbit whole.
Most therapists (they r rapists.) will "council" their victims by steering them in a particular direction (mind control). This is also done with the aide of SORCERY (PHARMAKEIA, a word from the Bible meaning SORCERY, AND WITCHCRAFT. PHARMAKEIA is exactly what it sounds like = PHARMACY.) This is the workings through spells and SORCERY (PHARMAKEIA) witchcraft.
The one true God, Jesus Christ, gave us ALL sound minds and body. Its only when we have allowed ourselves to be subjected to evil spirits (drugs, alcohol, perversions, around others with ill intent, etc) that WE TOO become attached to these spirits, or find ourselves in the castings of spells.
God warns us of all of this, and more in the writings of his word, the Holy Bible (KJV).
And it is through our own self will (that God gave us), and our gift of discernment that we will come to recognize the wolves in sheep's clothing. This is why it is also, so very important to always be thanking God for his protection, continue to ask for his forgiveness, and to ask him to show us the wisdom in ALL SITUATIONS. ASK, AND YOU WILL RECEIVE.
God, our Savior, and his Holy Bible (the word) is THE ONLY GUIDANCE WE WILL EVER NEED! Look to HIM for ALL YOUR ANSWERS and HE WILL ALWAYS PROVIDE.
Much Love to you.
I've noticed awhile ago that I was becoming easily irritated...then after I thought about it,it was bc of lack of sleep over the years...gotten a lot better since!
I loved this! As a dentist I can understand her passion towards brain related disorder. Nice convo ladies ❤
After dealing with PPD and having my partner walk out , I started a fitness journey and listening to this podcast reinforced all the good things I’ve been doing to my brain via exercise. The sleep part is hard with a baby but everything else I’m in control of.
I’m going to look into cold plunges and add that to my routine. Thanks Lisa ❤❤
Got brain damage from quitting psych meds cold turkey.
Hope it can be reversed.
Am healing from it for over 3 years now and there is progress but maybe 20 to 25% improvement.
The quality of your brain is indeed everything. Quality of life, of relationships, it all starts from being and staying well regulated and know exactly what to do (and what not to do...) when dysregulated/triggered.
✌️
I’m not finished with this episode yet, but it is one of my favorites so far.
Her knowledge is amazing but can we also point out how entertaining she is 😂 never seen someone use so many hand gestures before!
Thank you for picking up on this. lol
Haha she's greek.... its in our DNA 😂
Three score years and ten were given to men because of strength we will live longer Dr Nicola
I just wanted to say thank you to the feedback from these videos I used some of the feedback and it was very helpful . I used the quote I believe you just disrespected me and I got an apology thank you to Lisa and these videos.
Thank you Lisa! 🤩🤩 This one hit home.
loved this!! this girl makes so much sense
Your best episode yet Lisa!!!
I worked night duty 6days a week for 25years,had 3 boys and slept 4-5 hours a day. i am realy strugling now to sleep more than 5 hours.
Superb episode Lisa!
I would love to hear more about how cannabis effects sleep as someone who has used it for insomnia on and off for the last 22 years. Myo inositol is the only thing that's come close to helping me sleep like cannabis does. Ashwagandha seems to help at times but not others. Womdering if it has to do with where I'm at in my cycle/hormones.
The pic linked to this video is Dr Louisa Nicole. I’m looking for her interview with you please🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This was very good!!!
So a few weeks ago, i was back home visiting mum, in a remote village and one night while listening to Impact Theory, a weird imagination emerged about how, just how cool it would be if you and Tom by some miraculous chance, happen to fall in my village....and you both hear your show playing in a village hut in the middle of nowhere 😂
Well for starters, i thought i would offer you some coffee with coconut cream i had brought along home😅
And that my friends, would be legendary🫡
Haha love this!
I really enjoyed watching this video . I love box jumps there one of my favourite exercises. I really appreciated that part about girls and heavier weights.
Also people who suffer from depression, general anxiety disorder, OCD, autism ect. This was pretty much only speaking on neurotypical people
Very fruitful video
4:53 how I feel when my crush remembers something about me 😂
Amazing conversation 🙌🏼❤️
What was the book you mentioned about the female/women brain? Thanks!
Its actually called The Female Brain! Its soooooo good!!!!
We need more women in the brain space!
Sorry to disappoint u but maths and medicine did exist even before the greeks, think of all the ancient civilizations like Persians and Mesopotamians etc.. So to be correct it didn't come from Greek first place... Anyway, doesn't have to do with this amazing podcast, love u all, good job u guys anyway!
Haha we were totally joking that that was what our fathers used to tell us growing up!
@@LisaBilyeu i got u! btw thank u for your incredible work u put out there and i love your energy!
Not gonna lie, her accent was what kept me going 😂
Love sleeping in a cold room with my hands and feet outside of the sheets
What she doesn't clarify is whether that is absolute or relative risk. These sort of studies are usually relative risk. That means if 10 out of 50 people would get dementia with a 30% relative risk reduction, 7 out of 50 people would get dementia, that is a 6% absolute risk reduction. Still good but this confusion between relative and absolute risk is a problem in medicine and health because it's the way drug companies can sell us so much medication, as even most doctors (about 75% in studies) don't understand the difference. In medical journals they are allowed to provide the benefits in relative risk and the risk of side effects in absolute risk, which to someone who doesn't fully understand the difference, look like it's really beneficial compared to the risk when it isn't. The 30% reduction in heart attacks from statins is actually less than 1% absolute risk reduction. The 25% of people experiencing side effects is actually a 400% absolute risk increase in absolute terms. so to compare like for like, a 1% reduced risk of heart attack over 10 yrs but a 400% risk of significant side effects, still think it's worth it? Maybe you do, but unless your given the information in a transparent way, how can you make an informed decision. you can't and that's a problem.
Why can’t I find the name of the second guest?
I have vertigo. I'm afraid to go far without a rail. Cause I fall.
What’s the name of the book Lisa mentioned about women?
Hello such a great podcast ! Thank you so much ! Just a little comment as to titles...don't understand why do they not correspond to thé content...this épisode IS about thé Brain and thé title (stay calm when triggered) feels irrelevant. I find it hard to find vidéos that i want to listen to again because of it. Maybe bé it's a marketing thing but it's just too far from thé content
quality content 🧠
My body translates cold to pain pretty much instantly. I have tried cold plunges so many times because of how amazing everyone says they are for your health and they HURT. The whole time. I don't desensitize/get used to it at all, so I can't continue this. Also, an increase in hypervigilance, which is what I thought I understood cold does, is kind of a disaster for people with anxiety. So cold plunges aren't for everyone.
I smoke weed daily and I sleep so deep I don’t wake at night or remember most dreams.
That's interesting..
Lol
Wait, can you ask her again about creatine? Does it cause kidney problems?

Love U Girls ❤❤
Woop wooooop homie!! 🙌
taking supplements really helped me regulate my emotions
Which supplements worked for you?
I've tried tonnes but nothing beats a Xanax when I'm too far triggered (cptsd & hormonal & a general firy disposition)
✌️
I’m 133 in and still listening out for how not to be triggered 😤 feeling triggered 😅
Hey, who is the second guest ?
Louisa has the most beautiful haistyle and brain. Thank you. Help Lisa.
The Angels did not agree on this because the human heart is said to be designed to beat for 200 years?
Nice👍
Explain how the eye patch helps please?
Hi Sarah, how's your day going with you?
✌️ thx 🙏😊
YO! What she say about immunity and sleep? 😰 😥
What about some one who works graveyard:/
My grand dad taught me this. M arr
Hi Michelle, how's your day going with you?
CYPRIOT GIRLS
I met someone who said he doesn't respect someone who has alzeimers. I figured, he meant sexual respect. I already don't alzeimers.
I’m sorry I can only make it 15 minutes into this one. It’s just very scare tactic and like anxiety inducing
I'm glad you'd said that as started feeling that way too. 😮.. saying this with utmost respect.
but what about us women who wake up to pee, atleast 3 times after falling asleep!!
Hi Sheila, how's your day going with you?
Wow
the cold shower tho!!!!!
How do you want to live the last 10 years of your life? Good.
Hi Lori, how's your day going with you?
So Lisa will you quit smoking pot now? Can you ask if its the smoking or of doing edibles is just as bad?
She has some valid health points but She is speaking against how God designed our bodies to live over 100 years old, to procreate, thrive, live life and live abundantly. Brain's Survival mode protects is to be able to survive this world's issues. We need 2 be careful what we speak and recieve into our spirits as someone else's gospel vs God's Holy word. Blessings 2 all.
Pamper doesn't mind if I'm mad him. Fine. I don't need him.
www thank you
i smoke weed and i sleeeeep so good 😂😒 so idk what she talking about
but when i drink i definitely do sleep well so i can feel that
🫶
Hi Tahesha, how's your day going with you?
🙄
Did this woman seriously just saw we live longer than we used to because of modern medicine? Lol what??? Does she not know we used to live way longer 1,000 years ago?
Did you seriously just say we used to live longer 1000 years ago?
You've got to be kidding, or are you really that stupid?.. 🤦🏻♀
How so are we meant to die after procreation? Genesis 6:3…
Not biblical at all. Good health & science info but No, we were not derived from Apes after the big bang.😢
I wonder how my grandma lived to late 90s without alzeimers and what have you in this modern world.. too much of info will do anyones brains let alone all these Alzheimer's and dementia stuff.
