Hi Richard... Absolutely stunning... The movie.. The pic... And your work... I love the landscape... Cornwall....british isles... And peregrines... Falcons are my favorite birds... Especially peregrine falcons... Fantastic work..👍😊💖.. Cheers from Germany... Hannah...
Hi Hannah, wow! What a great comment thank you! Not sure we’ve spoken before so welcome to the channel and so glad you enjoyed it🙏👍. All the best and thanks again for taking the time 👍
How brilliant to see Peregrines where they should be - not clinging to a skyscraper!! Lovely footage - well earned Richard - sensitive musical accompaniment too.
My wildlife photography is done in the woods in London which is great. However, your stunning scenery really adds power to your photographs and film. Excellent stuff.
Some great places in London despite the hectic busy goings on! Quite spoilt with all the great scenery which I never take for granted. All the very best Richard 😀
Fabulous video Richard!! What an amazing view and footage you captured! Thanks for taking your time to share your experiences with these magnificent birds. Hope you enjoy the new camera. Cheers from 🇨🇦😊
Thank you Lisa, very kind:-) It was such a great experience with one of the most formidable birds, and great weather to boot🙏👍. Many thanks, it’s gone back for a sensor clean and an AF screen replacement! Small scratch on it! Fingers crossed I’ll get it back soon so I can use it😂. All the very best to you and your family. R🇬🇧🤗
What great scenery!Wonderful setting for photos of a bird that you don’t see that often, pretty special.Great shots especially the one at the end of the black back, you can see how small the peregrine is.Really enjoyed it.Alison.
Thanks so much! They are so special and so fast! Hard to keep up, more practice needed but looking forward to the challenge for in flight video! That Black Back was a shock!! Thanks again. R 😁
Hi there Steve, many thanks mate, really appreciate it! Lol, it was indeed, Poor youngster! Saying that it probably had it coming pestering all those seabirds!! All the best R :-)
Great footage and images Richard. Back button focus for me too, I also occasionally use spot metering on a neutral part of the image with a half press of the shutter button in tricky light. Its surprising how quick you can focus, meter and recompose with a bit of practice. Keep up the great work, I look forward to your next adventure. 👍
Hi there John, thanks very much. Yes, I love using back button focus, and like you've rightly said I also use Spot focus on occasions, whick works really well and quite intuitive.... Thanks again, regards R:-)
We are so lucky to live in this beautiful part of the country. Your view was incredible. This Cornish coast never fails to disappoint. Another fabulous vlog.
Good video. Very good. And the slow motion at the end is brilliant. It seems that you got a few really good days with some experiences to remember. I'm looking forward to more form you. Have a great day. R.
Cheers Rino, i did abs feel so lucky! I wished I’d been quicker and had more time with the Black Back but new camera and the memory’s card was getting full! No CF Fast, in the post 😥! That’s for your support:-) cheers R 👍
That's some coast line Richard, the waters look as blue as the mediterranean. My recent trip to photograph the peregrine juveniles was one of the most memorable days in a while. Enjoyed the video, cracking shots. 🙂👍💯👌
Nice video.. Thanks Richard. Such awesome birds.. I’ve never seen them in the wild.. Hopefully one day.. I use back button focus also.. Allows you to change your shutter speed and composition whilst staying focussed as well as other things.. Very useful once you get used to it..
Hi Ross, hopefully you will get the chance, truly a memorable and unforgettable experience that never tires! That’s on the BB focus info, indeed! Great in a pinch and if the subjects not around for long! And that’s most of the time, lol.., all the best 👍
Fantastic watch that is Rich, I really enjoyed that one! 👌👏👏👏 The dramatic music choice is superb too and suits the action perfectly. Cracking stuff bud 👍
Hi there Nick, thanks very much indeed, dramatic music needed for an awesome predatory bird🙏👍! Hope you are keeping well? How’s the channel going? Regards R 👍
@@RichardBirchett Thanks Rich, all good here & trust you are too. I have some material for a vlog, but still need a bit more content, & maybe a bit more... & then on to the task of editing it all - really not my strong point! Been back at work the past few weeks on & off too, so time is limited. I'll get there with it though. Keep safe 👍
What an amazing place to spend the day and with Peregrines as a bonus. Back button focus is a game changer when you are doing wildlife photography. Stunning images and video as usual Richard and brilliant capture of the gull and the youngster at the very end. Keep up the great work. Cheers Keith
Awesome Keith, it was so special and the weather! Thankfully was really kind. BB focus Is certainly for me but not all! Some situations I can see it’s downsides but for Wildlife it’s awesome. Just caught the Gull in time! Trying out new video so quite lucky. Thanks again, your getting close mate.... come on 1K🤞🏻👍🙏
Hey Richard! Hmmm... I am a bit late on commenting on this video , but it was awesome! Great footage and stills for sure! I haven't done a vlog, but you sure make it look easy! I have a tough enough time just keeping track of what I do with my simple videos! I just love Peregrines they are one very fierce bird! I could tell you had a great time out with them . Just awesome! Sayin' hey.... Greg
Wilson Nature Photography hi Greg, never to late my friend, always love your feedback🙏👍. As long as you enjoy doing them that’s the main thing, great to capture the moments:-) they are such a top predator! I wouldn’t want to be a meal! Man they are fast! All the best R :-) 👍
It's great to see a photographer pleased and hanging on to their camera body for over a four year period. I see too many photographers changing their body practically every two years or less because they think it will make a massive difference to their images so hats off to you Richard for staying with your outgoing body for five years or so and good luck with the 1DX Mk2 which seems to be a great camera. I'm a Nikon shooter myself but I'm aware of the 1DX Mk2's capabilities. I enjoy watching your videos because it brings back many great memories for me when I was stationed at RAF Portreath in 1984-85 (now I'm showing my age). Enjoyed my 18 month posting there, it was awesome. Due to St Mawgan being the parent station and was 23 miles from Portreath, we were allowed to live out in the village of Portreath so we were continually blessed with it's beauty.
Hi there Gary, thanks very much for taking the time to comment:-) I'm always reluctant to change often due to the fact there really is never any massive hurry but I did need to change due to the things I mentioned, plus I get very attached to my Camera bodies, feels like an extension of my arm, lol.. Also the money is a deciding factor, never buy new, always second hand! Back in my single days in the Royal Navy I had more money, now mortgage, and family uses up the rest! But still, not always the camera as you know, more on the person behind it. I bet they were awesome days, such a shame so many bases have now gone!!! 😐... great memories my friend, all the very best Richard👍😀
Great video,I have Peregrines local to me,they have two fledged young they are feeding at the moment.I use a combination of back button for large focus area for flying birds and a front button for center point focus and shutter button just for shutter on Nikon D500.
Hi Alan, great news! Think the Peregrines ate doing well nationally let’s hope it continues into next! Great info, never thought of that so thanks very much:-) always great to hear other people’s preference:-) all the best R👍
Another great video mate. I was in Cornwall last week and the coastline is just stunning and could quite happily move there. Can't believe how many buzzards you have in Cornwall.
Thanks my friend, hope you had a nice break? Yes, very common now especially locally! Most common UK bird of prey, taken the place of the kestrel that now struggle! 😥. All the best R👍
@@RichardBirchett yes was a great break. Made a change to see buzzards over red kites. As I see at least 3 red kites a day here. Was awesome to see the kestrels on the cliffs too. Even saw my 1st gannet and a dolphin from the beach. Plus had some great family time on the farm. Take care keep them coming
Lovely images and great to have those fantastic birds on your home patch!! The Cornish coast looked awesome too :) Back button focus all the way for me - I first started using it a few years ago and honestly I can’t imagine doing it any other way now!

Beautiful scenery Peregrines certainly enjoy some lovely locations. We have them here in my home Town Salisbury at the Cathedral. Great video take care!
Thank you.. they do indeed! And I don’t blame them One bit! Although I didn’t show the nest site it was very inaccessible so well done adult birds. One of my favourite times with these beautiful powerful birds👍
Hello, Richard. How are you?. Thanks for bringing us this great video. I'm not really very good with English but I tried to understand everything valuable that you told us about it. In a first point, what a beautiful place you went, you tell us that it is a special place for you and really as it will not be, it is incredible friend. Those mountains, that sea, those colors. On the other hand, you showed us that this is the site of the peregrine falcons. We saw that they were eating around leaving traces of their prey, until they came flying. What a fantastic bird, it is a wonderful and powerful raptor in all its aspects. Very good photo you could take perched on those rocks. I think that because of his way of seeing despite being camouflaged, he identified you, they are impressive. The photo in flight is incredible. Very nice sunset timelaps, I can't say that it's a wonderful place. And until you hooked him eating nomas, what a unique moment that nature gives us. Thanks for sharing this great adventure, friend. I send you a very big greeting from Buenos Aires. Hug.
Hi there, Wow, Buenos Aires that's quite the distance from me!! Great to hear from you and I thank you for your wonderful comments. Your English looks really good to me:-) I feel very lucky indeed to live in such a beautiful part of the world, I must admit I got lucky with the beautiful weather on the day of my Vlog and the Falcons were displaying nicely for me, lol... Been getting set up to try to get some shots of the peragrins this year. Absolutely pumped to head there tomorrow. So glad to see what you were able to get especially seeing that you did it with a 5DsR and a 100-400. That's what I have so no excuses
Hi Richard, got to love the Peregrine, hoping next year to Vlog them through the year! And thanks for saying about Back button, seems a good proportion of people do:-) 👍
Wow, that very last bit!! Loved the Cornish coast when we visited many many years ago, and enjoyed your pics and footage (and have subscribed). Have seen peregrines here in Dorset and got a couple of surprise passable shots (passable for me, that is! Lol!)
SkylarkFields thanks very much for commenting and for subscribing, very much appreciated:-) I think sometimes seeing and watching them can be better than hiding behind the lens but I just love them 🙏👍! Nice one, great to capture them, hard when they are so so fast!!! All the best R:-) 👍

RICHARD BIRCHETT Hi Richard thought I’d answer your question from my channel about what trail camera I use ! Great video and Beautiful pictures of the Peregrine Falcons. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any near where I live in the States. Will try the back space button. What did you use to hide yourself away from the Peregrine?
Hi William, thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment its always really appreciated. They are up there as one of my favourites and I am gaining a licence for them next year all being well; so I can document them pictorially throughout the breeding season, a protected licensed bird in the UK, so to photograph them around the nest you need one from the government body called Natural England. I used a Lenscoat Lenshide from the US, you are probably aware of them, best company out there for all camera lens equipment. There is a link below the log description if you are interested. All the very best from the UK, stay safe R :-)
Nice film Richard, i know how much effort goes into making these films so well done. A beautiful part of the country youre in there but its also a challenging environment to film and photograph in. The bag hide blended in really well, a good choice. ive just got the Rode Wireless Go too and just getting to grips with it but hopefully it'll make the films sound a lot better( if i remember to turn it back on !!) Great film and keep up the good work 👊📷🎥
Hi there Simon, thanks very much for taking the time to comment it’s always very much appreciated especially from a fellow naturalist and photographer 🙏👍. I must admit that bag hides been a god send over the last few months especially with sensitive subjects, and quite affordable really. The mic had some great reviews and I’ve seen many people use it so thought it’s a safe bet, shame I haven’t got the adapter for my GoPro yet! (Supply issues)🤞🏻it will arrive soon. All the best to you and thanks again. Richard 👍
Hi Richard, just found your channel and love what you are doing, I am sure you will go from strength to strength. I particularly liked how you edited the photos, would you possibly do a video on what software you use and how you go about your editing? You have asked for suggestions on other videos and another video that would be good to see is how you set up, record and edit the video sequences. I have very similar Canon gear to you but have yet to do any videos, so would appreciate seeing how you go about it. Many thanks and all the best, Richard.
Hey Richard, thanks very much indeed for saying so, it really does mean a lot and comments like that keep me producing videos which I really enjoy doing. I am hoping to do one on the digital darkroom side of things but I am opening myself up for quite the grilling as I am no Photoshop editing expert as many people are. But I think to show people what works for me will be worth doing. I've seen many fellow Vloggers get quite the negative feedback so It's a dangerous Vlog but hey I'll give it a go. Editing of videos is also an art that i'm still learning but I really enjoy doing it and I learn new skills each time. Every days a school day as I always like to say, lol.. Really pleased to welcome you to the channel and for your comment and support, all the best Richard. :-)
Hi there Matt, no problem it’s a lenscoat lens hide, I’ve got it as an affiliate link in my video description or you can purchase one from WEX Photovideo or other reputable retailers. It’s awesome and used extensively, they do a waterproof or material version, wildlife just seem to accept it and has proven a massive success to my photography. Hope this helps, all the best R :-) 👍
Hi Chris, thanks very much for watching and subscribing to the channel, It's a LensCoat Lens hide, details of this hide is below the Vlog description or check out my gear page on my website. richardbirchett.co.uk/new-page-1 All the best Richard 👍
Hi there Ramesh, I really can't see there is a problem with that combination, although I'm not a Sony user, I would say looking at the reviews its a great setup. Please check out with a Sony user to doubly confirm, Regards R:-)
Hi Michael, for some birds in the Uk, you need a Schedule 1 Licence to photograph protected species on or around the nest. Thankfully these had fledged so I was safe enough on the legal front. Plus I do some work for the governing body so nice to keep an eye on them. Applying for a Licence for 2021. All the best R 👍
@@michaelktori5178 Cool, a place called Gigrin Farm in Wales is awesome to watch and photograph them. They are Schedule 1 protected but only on or around the nest. Can send you a link if you like? Regards Richard

I tried back button focus after watching a RUclips video by Steve Perry, Back Country Gallery, and been using it since.
It’s really handy and suits my style of photography. Will check out his video. Thanks Richard 👍
Hi Richard, I'd be curious to learn what wearable blind you're using and how you like it. Thanks! -Matt
Not yet seen peregrines so I have some catching up to do!
Great birds Janet and a must see bird, amazing 🙏👍
Very nice, new subscriber here- what's the hide you were using?
Hi Chris, thanks very much for watching and subscribing to the channel, It's a LensCoat Lens hide, details of this hide is below the Vlog description or check out my gear page on my website. richardbirchett.co.uk/new-page-1
All the best Richard 👍
Great video , how did you find these peregrines then?
Thanks, monitor them locally, been breeding along my patch for 50 years or so!
Can I use telephoto lens in crop sensor camera . I have Sony a6000 with sigma 150-600mm it's good combo !?
Hi there Ramesh, I really can't see there is a problem with that combination, although I'm not a Sony user, I would say looking at the reviews its a great setup. Please check out with a Sony user to doubly confirm, Regards R:-)
@@RichardBirchett thank you. I want to know can I use 2x converter in sigma 150-600mm with crop sensor Sony camera
In what cases do these birds attack and what should we be worried about
You should be worried. Regards R
And what threats does a peregrine have?
Very little threats in the UK for Peregrines, unless you count humankind! Or if your live close to Gyr Falcons they would take a Peregrine if needed..
You need a licence to photograph birds?
Hi Michael, for some birds in the Uk, you need a Schedule 1 Licence to photograph protected species on or around the nest. Thankfully these had fledged so I was safe enough on the legal front. Plus I do some work for the governing body so nice to keep an eye on them. Applying for a Licence for 2021. All the best R 👍
@@RichardBirchett Thanks Richard. Next time I'm in UK, I plan to photo' Red Kites using a 600mm 5Dsr. Will I need to have a permit?
@@michaelktori5178 Cool, a place called Gigrin Farm in Wales is awesome to watch and photograph them. They are Schedule 1 protected but only on or around the nest. Can send you a link if you like? Regards Richard
