Winter has become unusual in Denmark but this year is different. It has been frost for more than a week now and it seems to continue. For me this means work. Lots of work. I need to get out and capture nature when it is dressed in white:) I have spent 10 days in this area to photograph the birds and mammals and it has been truly amazing. I haven't had the time to do a lot of vlogging, but here on the last day, I decided to make a short one anyway.
I hope you enjoy these moments and that you can use some of the tips in the behind the scenes section.

A few questions:
1. Is it not dangerous to walk on the ice ?
We tested the thickness of the ice before walking out. It was about 10 centimeter thick and some places a bit more. That is more than think enough. The scary sounds are from tensions in the ice.
2. What would you have done if you went through the ice?
The lake is not very deep, so no danger. I would just have walked back up and changed my clothes immediately.
3. How do you record the nature sounds?
I always have either a videomic pro or a stereo mic in my camera back so that I can record sound if the surroundings are quiet enough. Sometimes I record only the sound and then I use that recording for some of my footage. Because of the "bad" preamps in most cameras I always put the mic to +20db so that I can bring the camera preamp down.
4. What brands are your Mukluks?
These are Steger mukluks. www.mukluks.com/Arctic/produc...
I have used these on all my Arctic expeditions and latest on my 2 month expedition to Ellesmere Island. You can see part 1 of my video series here: • 50 DAYS PHOTO EXPEDITI...

Yes! It's Morten Hilmer time! 🥳
Stop! Hilmer time!
Hi Morten,
I’d just like to say thank you, because without you, I wouldn’t have found my love for wildlife photography. I first saw one of your videos about 8 months ago and it was absolutely breathtaking. You are a true inspiration and role model. Thank you once again.
A lot of us had the same experience. We all appreciate you Morten :)
@@GangnamStyle284 Yes !
With me it was completely the same way :-)
Yup. Morten´s dedication to his craft is inspiring
Same boat. lol.
Interesting how the birds stay around while the fox walks around. They are good friends it seems..
The appeal of Morten's videos is his simple presentation and the humbleness in which he goes about explaining what he does - whether in the field or at home. Always a joy to watch his videos.
Neat to see those large geese come in and land like ski planes.
Your work inspires me.
Nature Calls
Knowing it is just a patience game
We sit, we play the game, we wait;
The honking geese a gaggle
Beneath crest of the moon.
Frost and snow and the geese,
A distant fox is patient, too.
Perfect timing! I’m just making dinner and will watch this while eating. Mortens videos are on par with the planet Earth documentaries to me. I tell anyone that will listen about these fantastic videos :). Take care and much love Morten!
Just read that comment and thought that it would be awesome to have a Morten Hilmer video narrated by David Attenborough...
@@WaechterDerNacht that would be absolutely legendary! My favourite narrator, and my favourite photographer of all time. Mortens narrating skills are just as great, but I grew up hearing David Attenborough’s amazingly relaxing voice. I’d sleep like a baby after watching the two collaborate 😂👍🏻
@@GangnamStyle284 Yes, his narrating skills are also great and really sets the mood for those videos great.
Still David Attenborough is a legend when it comes to narrating for those BBC documentaries etc..
Literally just rewatched your old fox video from a few years back yesterday, can’t wait to see this one ! I’m doing a local fox project so I hope I’ll be able to see and photograph some too 👍🏼👍🏼

Hey Morten! I absolutely love your content! It's incredibly beautiful and calming. Words can't describe how much I enjoy watching your videos. Keep up your amazing work!
Incredible that the fox didn’t try to catch a duck or goose! Beautiful location and gorgeous photos and videos.
What a beautiful life you live. You have a passion, a friend and a planet you inspire.
Absolutely stunning images!!
I always feel inspired to go hiking with my camera whenever I see one of your videos. They remind me of the importance of stepping away from the busy everyday life once in a while to enjoy the beauty of the nature and the calm that comes with being in it. Thank you for that! Also, that last section with the tips is fabulous!
Really beautiful images in this footage Morten !
I have love to see that fox on the ice between the birds
I love how you tell the story!
Wow Morten, absolutely stunning pictures!
Incredible moments with the fox and birds/tree. Stunning and mesmerizing.

Hey Morten, ur my big hero. Watching ur vids makes me so motivated to go out and try to get some wildlife photos myself. Also ur videos are so calming. Thanks!
Not everyone lives in such a wild and beautiful country or area. It inspires me to go out into my local park or just my backyard to see what I can find ! Thanks MH !
Breathtaking footage and pictures 🤩
This! This is art! Art by a true artist who loves his craft. He is the reason I got into photography. Amazing!
Great tips to stay warm out there! I often sit in one spot watching for wildlife, for many hours, and I like the idea of an herbal tea to keep hydrated as well as water.
Gorgeous photos! Also I really appreciate you sharing your tips and experience at the end of these videos, truly invaluable information :)
Fantastic. Really enjoyed watching this video, thanks so much. Great tips for cold weather dressing as well!
A REALLY gripping video. Thanks, Morten
Great work Morten!
fantastic morten!
Brilliant video yet again
Lovely video, Morten... thanks for the inspiration!
That fox was beautiful. And all swans and ducks. I can't wait spring to come with all birds again. I had maybe best time of My life last autumn when just watching, following and filming swan family.
Hello Morten,
Just to let you know that I have been following you from day 1 I have discovered wildlife photography and you always been my N1 inspiration.
THANKS A LOT!!
Well made episode. Loved watching it. With a warm cup of coffee of course.
Another well produced video again Morten lots of atmospheric footage to go with the story line, nice to share it with your friend too.👍
Great tips Morten, and beautiful Photos. I had a couple of great encounters with some foxes myself just a few days ago, meetings I won't forget for a long time. 👍🏻
It's not about taking the pictures. It's about enjoying the moment also. That is what I learned from your videos. Thanks
You always have such good videos but this may be your most useful for me yet. Greatly appreciate the child weather tips.
Amazing as always!
Ok, had to pause vlog and comment. I've have watched the "arm flap" a few times! Too funny. Your reaction time is swift! Ice cracks and arm raise quickly! LOL
Great video! Got a Snowy Owl today and 4 types of ducks that I've never heard of before. I'm in Canada so it was cold and I was out for hours. Luckily I already know and followed Morten's tips for staying warm. So many people came, complained about the cold, and left empty handed. These tips are true and work!
Great video Morten
Denmark surely got a very nice cold spell it seems 😀 Loved how the fox casually walked between the ducks and they didn't fly off. I'm secretly hoping one of these photos will make it in next year's calendar 👍
As always great tips, beautiful photos and videos. Nature in Denmark looks amazing. The way you showing it, is perfect! Greetings and waiting for next videos :D
Hola Morten, desde Costa Rica le quiero decir que me encantan sus videos ! Transmiten una energía increíble y desde que me hablaron de su canal hace como 3 semanas, creo que ya estoy al día con todos sus videos😍 Y espero muchos más .
I appreciate all your hard work to put these videos together. I am thankful you are a true professional. You refrain from swearing and offer clear-cut information and tips to us, the viewers. I have just seen 2 of your videos this evening and I am hooked. I am in Roseville, Minnesota and am fortunate enough to live within the best park system in the world. I have been photographing nature and wildlife here for 50 years. It never gets old and is very soothing and calming to be out in God's wonderful creation. Keep up the excellent work Morten, and thank you for sharing with the world.
amazing photography, Morten
Thank you for this beautiful video and the wonderful tips was well.
As always , great Video and fantastic tips 👍
Great stuff as always! Those are all great tips that I've used in the past myself. Cheers!
Loved the footage of the fox, such a beautiful animal. Reminded me of the footage I captured back in 2019. Thank you for sharing! Simon needs to create his own RUclips channel!!
another great video Morten, would love to see those bearutiful foxes!
Always inspiring, thank you!
Looks just like our local county park. Thanks for the tips. Time to put them into practice.
happy to see you again🔥😊🔥👏👏😀😀, with a new video,💐💐💐
I appreciate your advice on what to bring and the importance of your comfort. Hydration, food and clothing are certainly important regardless of the duration of your outing. I currently either wear Sorel boots or Muck stable boots, both of which allow me to wear multiple or thick socks and keep me dry and cozy. Layering is so important, I agree. Well done with showing us the “hows” of staying outside longer.
Thank you, beautiful birds and fox
Amazing moments and photo's!
Those birds have nerves of steel! Very nice shots and youtubevideo. Well done!
Thanks for the tips.... Again, informative and great video. Thanks.
Your videos always inspire! Another great one!
Love your work and pictures. Big fan from México
Wow Morten! Incredible video! As always...:)
Hi Morten. Thank you for a lovely start to my day with this amazing and incredible video. You really know how to put emotion and excitement into your videos. The new format you have been using really works well and I love it. We are in yet another lock down in the UK until at least March, so unable to go to the places I usually go to for photography. This video was a real pick me up, and has really filled me with excitement to get back out there and photograph as soon as possible. All the very best!!
I really enjoyed this video Morten... This is one of my favorite habitats... Cold and frozen wetland in the dead of winter; you never know what you're going to find. BTW, I see that you're now sporting an F-Stop backpack. I've been using a Tilopa and Sukha for years and love, love, these bags.
Do you know when somebody tells you "I feel like somebody is embracing my soul, that warm"... from the moment your timeline appears in my RUclips that´s EXACTLY what I feel. You´re not a youtuber, you have a gift that can surpass screens, kilometres and spaces... eveyone of your videos is even more and more full of magic... the perfect island to recover a little peace in the soul. Thanks for being so kind with the nature, see you "out there"...
one word peaceful❤️😍
Cracking stuff morten
Beautiful video! Thanks for the tips, especially that one to stay longer to shoot.
Beautiful and inspiring video as always Morten. Thanks for posting.
Remember, "The early bird catches the worm". :))
It's very interesting to watch Morten Hilmer...Liked .
Someday I would love to be like you, working in nature capturing beautiful moments, it's all I want in a future successful job, or at least have the resources to do it as a hobby.
I appreciate that you make these videos showing us your work, how difficult it can be, but how beautiful it is, very good final work by the way.
It is always so beautiful & awesome to watch your videos!!
AMAZING!!
like always a great movie from the photographic trip!
great fox shots! patience pays off! without it there would be no results! Bravo and best regards! 👍
Here in Montana, USA, it's fox mating season and we had a couple out last night on our ranch right by the house making the loudest racket you can imagine. Foxes are normally seen and not heard but they had vocalize loudly at times.
Awesome content sir! Love it....you are an inspiration
Very breathtaking video and also the photos are so phenomenal. Just beautiful 👍
Morton video on my birthday, perfect way to end the day 🙂
Many thanks for another inspiring informative video, much appreciated. Good advice for those of us in cold winter climates, to me being warm is the number one priority followed by food and hydration. Though one thing, I probably would have left my camera gear on the shore while I evaluated the strength of the ice sheet.
Very enjoyable video. Glad you got such nice images. Here in Hawaii, I struggle to stay cool while you try to keep warm.
