    0:02 They are the 0:02 0:02 ultimate!!! thanks Dan . I've been to watch them in Scotland and Anglesey had great views especially when hunting , then in 2006 used to pass a pair on a low set of crags each day on my way to work they were there for nine years ,Northumberland they would fly above the centre and stoop at our falcons whilst we were flying them in a demonstration. They have been my favourite since 1958 when Brook Bond had its second set of British birds tea cards. Fantastic bird to watch and also to be fortunate enough to fly and see some breath taking stoops. Hi Dan, first Vid from you that I saw. i love the video footage (panning skills) and your commenting (very informative). But what I like the most is the awesome shots of the action with the buzzard involved and how your enjoyment and enthusiasm is shown. It really transports so much of the fascination you had to me (the viewer) and makes me wanting to go out with the camera right away.. May I ask if you had to crop heavily? I have a MFT 300mm lens that would equal 600mm on FF and I find it the hardest to get closer to birds quite often. With the 20 mpx sensor too much cropping obviously isn't a good idea. Anyway thanks alot for this great video. Cheers

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you so much Zweima for your kind words I really appreciate it. The crop is about 50% and that was with a 560mm lens, I would say that with 600mm you would be absolutely fine, there were occasions where the falcons came really close. I tend to embrace the focal length and when birds are at a range that would not support a tight crop, go for shots that incorporate the environment/habitat that the bird is in. This often produces some really stand out shots.
      Thanks again and all the best 👍🏻

    Great stuff Dan! We habve a pair of Peregrines that nest inside an extinct volcano crater near Cairns QLD. Flying around, inside the jungle clad walls. Hard to shoot. You did very well. With the buzzard did you AF on the buzzard, or one of the falcons?
    Finally, have you read The Peregrine by J A Baker? 50 year anniversary release. Set in East Anglia, I think. Amazing read of the love he has for this bird.

      Thanks very much Scott, Peregrines in a volcano crater sounds epic indeed.
      I did focus on the buzzard as there were actually 3 peregrines stooping the buzzard so it was the best way to capture an interaction.
      The book you mentioned sounds like a great read and I will definitely be picking myself up a copy 👍🏻

    What fantastic shots of such an iconic bird, we now have them breeding in our local town (on the highest building) so i am hoping to get some images. Yet again you are inspiring me to get out there and try to get near to your incredible images. Have you ever thought of doing an exhibition?

    Stunning shots and , on that windy ledge, survival skills Dan !!..quite stunning images with the Buzzard interaction. Just wondering, are you still using your "start with Wide Area S or C1 etc for initial lock on and then handover to 3D on the back button" method you mentioned I think in a previous video?...still fiddling with my Z8 for optimum results !..and a Peregrine will test out the AF set up unlike almost anything else !

      I am using that combination but have the top front programmable button set to small group and the bottom one to single point. Between all 4 methods I can usually lock onto the subject without having any issues, takes a bit of practice though.

      @@danwillis_photography When you record video do you use normal VR or sport? I find the normal mode a little bit choppy when paning.

    • @danwillis_photography
      @danwillis_photography  6 месяцев назад +1

      I have VR set to normal. To be honest I had the wrong video settings for the panning shots, I was shooting in 30fps and then tried to slow the footage down. I should have been shooting at 120fps to support the slow motion and it would then have not been as choppy.

    Dan, spectacular shots, especially because you can get that top-down view! I can sympathize with the wind but that was pretty extreme there. If you ever get to see them up close with fresh prey it's a life-changing experience. It's incredibly gruesome and awesome at the same time. I have a nesting pair fairly local, in an industrial park, with people there all the time. The peregrines come onto the light poles in the parking lot very low, but I wish I had access to the building roofs. Then I'd be able to get shots like yours!
