Swiss International Airlines Airbus A340-313X
Date: July 24 2012
Captain Rolf Odermatt and his crew starting our 8 hour and 24 minutes journey to Newark Liberty International airport.
Footage from Switzerland, Alsace, Paris and the Normandy included
For those familiar with Zuerich airport, have a look at our take-off runway, this flight for sure changed my opinion that the A340-300 is powered by 4 hairdryers. Airborne after 5000-6000 ft for a transatlantic flight.
Filmed with Sony DSC-HX200V in Full HD, sorry about the medicore quality, these scratched windows pose a challenge for a decent shot.
Sweet sound!!! Those hairdryer engines are what's up!!
I love the way this big underpowered beast clambers its way into the sky.
Well done beautifully filmed..and what a lovely clear day..a real joy to watch and enjoy . Thank you.
Very powerful sound on take off and very silent clipping!!! I am amazed. Airliners are my passion. Brazil on line.
Those engines sound like a slip knot guitar
Wahoouu nice vidéo,& nice weather over switzerland & France. Didn't know that such a big aircraft like 340 could take off from runway 28 in ZRH.Always thought it was too short for those type of birds...
Love the A340-300 engine roar!
What a safe
Elegant Beautiful plane
I flew in one with Olympic every time I went to Greece
Great cfm56 roar! Never been on A340s
6:17 That's the "Parc des Princes" stadium in Paris, France; above it is the "bois de Boulogne".
6:32, general view of Paris withe the green bois de Boulogne on the left, the curves of the river "Seine" and the patterns of the importants avenues.
6:37, in the centre, the skyscrappers form the business district of "La Défense".
6:40 the chateau de Versailles (better visible at 6:42) with its parc.
7:18 this is the nuclear facility in Flamanville with a port to ship/receive nuclear material.
Paris looks sooooo big!
Lets put a few things straight here, the A340-300 has adequat power for itselft, however it has very little surplus power, hence it is underpowered when being put into perspective.....
Fantastic takeoff!
A340 = relaxation.
I love how this airplane uses a variant of the CFM56 engine found on the B737 and A320
And also a340
these four engine planes are amazing. the provide more stable flights. i never get vertigo after flying in one of them. Always get it in A330 and B767. I hope they wont extinct
These planes are made for long range
What i meant was that there is a pressure from the market for more fuel efficient thus cost effective twin engine planes meaning there is a danger to see less and less four engine planes in the future skies
il rumore dei motori è perfetto
The engines aren't as powerful but they do have a loud sound to them and they can still lift this plane.
Love the A340-300!! An absolutely elegant, gorgeous aircraft. It's certainly not a rocket ship like a 757, but it's second only to the 747-8 as the most beautiful commercial jetliner in service.
Always enjoy Protyreus videos. Wish I was on that flight! Thanks for sharing.
Forget flex, full TOGA!
7:24 that's where the company Areva treats nuclear waste from French and many foreign nuclear electricity plants.
8:22 the dark spot on the left above the horizon is obviously a UFO :P
Hey, this took place on my 10th birthday!
Nice
Look at that view! Beautiful!
Lovely video there, just great when the weather's nice and sunny too
Excelente Jato Ótimo Vídeo Parabéns amigo
Nice views!!!!
05:11 I guess that's Madrid's - Barajas Airport and "Santiago Bernabeu" at 05:34..!!! Man, you did get some excellent shots..!!! Good Job :)
+kNaN_08 The airport is Paris Orly and the stadium is called "Stade Charléty" which is for meetings, athletism and other competitions like womens PSG, rugby and so more
Screw Flex, full TOGA!
Nice camera shots that thing takes amazing video
WOW - mit der A340 will ich auch mal von der 28 aus starten :-)
Brilliant,brilliant,brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eu amei esse vídeo, @Swiss a340 show🍃❤
What kind of camera was this person using😳? Because that a good camera.
She love you
4 CFM-56 amazing
I love when the engine makes wub wub wub wub wub wub
sounds like the the a fridge
man these a340 sound so dam good
LOL is true jajajaja THESE ENGIENS ARE FUCKIN AWESOME
Wow, interesting video. That zoom-lens capability on your camera was pretty cool.
I love the A340-300!Very fast plane!
Gery pwoerfulll sound , thanks to show this videooo brooo
brilliant
oh and LX52 to BOS departing in the background, nice!
Great quality!
Those engines put me right to sleep.
5:31 West Paris and the château de Versailles at 6:42!! Nice video!
Great Video !!!
Lol RWY28 departure! I dont like the A340-300... i assume that the A350 will replace the A340's in the future. btw i always love your flight reports with SWISS :D
A340 ufm 28 nach Amerika! Wow! Big like!
i do like the sleek looks of the a340s, but no the 300s aren't the strongest engines, hence the long rotation. the 600s are longer and those do have larger engines. nice views, i love europe in the summers. especially munich! favorite place ever. nuclear reactor close up was pretty cool too.
Nice CFM56-5C engine sound
cool video as always!
but the next time don't let youtube fix it, your older videos aren't so shaky and the quality of fixed videos is bad. so leave them as they are :)
That was nice, what type of camera you used? What was the city you flew over and zoom in an out of?
nice video !!
nice flight ;)
Yes the A340 does have very weak engines (most peopled refer to them as hairdryers) and is usually and unfavorably compared to the quite excellent B777
Nice vid what camera
This is wonderful. But sadly, this exact plane had been withdrawn from use in April 2017 :(
Tango Foxtrot 2 Why ?
'cause LX52 to BOS departs at the same time like LX18 to EWR. ( I live near LSZH)
Why so noisy? And does a plain with 4 engines use less power then ones with 2? Thanks
it's an old plane and uses a small engines, it means more power to take off, and remember it has a lot of passenger and the plane gets heavier
Less total thrust is needed because in case of single engine out during takeoff, 3/4 power is still available vs. in a twin, only 1/2 power would be available. This affects takeoff performance, such as terrain clearance considerations.
Those engines even look like hairdryers , just add a handle and be done
Powerful take-off in an A340-300?! You must be joking, that thing is the slowest accelerating and climbing aircraft i´ve ever flown on... And i´ve flown on many types of aircraft. It´s like beeing on a camel trying to take-off :D
Yeah, you're right! The a340-600 has much more power than the 300...
Remember that 4 engine aircraft can have their take-off thrust derated to a greater extent than twins due to t/o engine-out reserve power requirements. Engines last a lot longer that way. It's also one of the reasons it has a far greater take-off weight than its sister aircraft, the a330-300, even though its total thrust is less
cndam
The a340-300's engines put out 34,000 pounds of thrust each.
Trumpeter31 A343s doesn't have engines. They have hairdryers :)
I came here to make a joke about using A340 and powerfull in the same phrass.. i see someone beat me by 3 years... i left happy
Yep.
only the 340-200 and 340-300 have weak engines. the -500 and -600 variants has that are twice as powerful.
not twice as powerful
0:10 Great job, pilot! The A340-300s accelerate slowly causes underpowered. So… Just what if you just takeoff the A340-300 properly, if firstly you can just brakes on, secondly increase the throttle and spool-up, thirdly after 1.5 or 3 seconds, increase the throttle between 94 RPM to 99.5 RPM, fourthly release the brakes, lastly feel and see when the plane takes off well and V1.2 rotation too, you can do just slowly decrease the throttle a bit. (just try to jump off like the bird, but some A340-300s can’t) Is that OK…? :)
0:01 And that was the very great animated intro of the video! :D
That roar!!
from where do you know its to BOS?
The 343 should be powerful? :D :D :D It's my second favourite airplane, but not powerful :D
Philippine Airlines run one from London to Manila non stop...
Nice.
In German it is spelt Zürich. The letter ü (with these two dots above it) is the combination of the letters u+e. So ü=ue...
Zürich = Zuerich
what exactly does that mean?
How come we can't see Newark towards the end?
the N1 reduction its a pain for some long time..
06:40 le Château de Versailles et… la pièce d'eau des Suisses.
That must be Orly Airport,Paris.
what is your camera ??
i saw my home
whats the number of your seat?:)
nuclear power plant at 2:40-2:56
queeeeeeee sonido
Those engines are tiny compared to the rr on the -600
250kts under 10,000 ft.
GE90-115B 110,000-120,000 lbs thrust
777x being developed
A330neo being developedd
GE9X for the 777-8x,777-9x
cleared for takeoff, throttle set,V1, rotate, positive rate, gear up
+That computer guy aka Aryan similar. Not the same. They are rated higher. CMF-56 5C (31-34k). Closer to the 321 power plants.
I don't think "powerful take-off " and A340-300 belong in the same sentence :)
It sounds like a an A320
Same engines.
Video ok
Which city at 6:57?
Al Yarrdam-el-islam-abdullah It's Paris
But better view at 6'30
k vuen video
20
2 dislike form boeing :)
2:49 why do you film this??
Why shouldn't he film that?
I think he was bored while filming
АПО
hairdryers hahahahahaha X'D
So underpowered this version. The 5 and 6 far exceeded this one.
‘’Powerful takeoff”
*Hairdryers*
