I tend to think of myself as a Ford guy but when I bought my truck in 09 Ford couldn't give me what I wanted for my price (2 wd AC automatic electric windows and door locks 8 ft bed, without buying a $6 package) chevrolet could so my 09 chevy silverado 1500 currently has 197000 miles on it and has been the best truck I have ever had

    • @danbartolini27

I should note this was during cash for clunkers and I paid less than $14K for my chevy. To get electric windows and door locks from Ford I would have to buy a trim package that included leather seats, carpet, back up cameras, etc,... And would have made the truck cost $21k

that truck is mint for a farm truck! We have a 1982 ford f150 as a farm truck still runs great! They really built them to last back in the day, that's a real truck, no plastic bumper. Quality has gone down in everything as a whole.

I’ve had 2 of these old trucks both the Powerstroke & idi. Of the two I like the idi better simpler, & cheaper to fix than the HEUI Powerstroke.
As much as I’d love to get another Powerstroke for my power needs, my idi is my cruising high efficiency truck, was getting 20mpg hwy & probably 15-16 city.
Gotta love the sound of that old Powerstroke at idle when giving her a little gas. When I had it when it was running good, she was great, sold it & got my now current 93 idi.

Red lined it and it had cold start rod knock for a second it always did that. The rough running i don't remember it running like that till i got stuck in the snow in a friends driveway and redlined it on a semi coldish engine in reverse engine was completely tuned with all new parts over time still ran bad almost blew the manual trans in it giving it everything it had in 1st gear showing off at work this was 1 week before selling it miss having a manual sadly my 7.3 idi is a automatic but it does have a ATS turbo on it and man she's a loud turbo

A Rural Vermonter the 6.0 does not deserve the reputation it has. People think it is a terrible engine but those are the same people who like to dump smoke and push 600 horsepower on stock head gaskets without studs. The 7.3l had a lot of issues with cam position sensors (and other issues but they weren’t too bad) to the point I kept a few in my glove box until I got my 6.0. Not to say their is nothing wrong with 6.0’s they have their issues and are definitely way more sensitive to bad fluids than the 7.3. But I have to say the 6.0 runs circles around tuned 7.3l’s stock and has a much much much better transmission. Just my two cents. Feel free to provide your opinion!

That era F350 was about the best ever made. The 7.3 PSD was not a high performance diesel like we have now, but the truck didn't cost as much as a house, and was affordable to repair, unlike what we have now. Today's huge horsepower and torque numbers come with significant cost - worth it? Maybe to some. With good maintenance and being in a non-rust state, that F350 truck is good indefinitely.

Nice Ford. Just never was a fan of those first Powerstokes. Hated those electric accelerators..... 500 RPM straight to 1500!!!!! Fun hooking up to trailers or in mud. The front "light bar" is some what rare dealer install.
BTW same here GM guy, but did have a 90 &92 Ford's. Both 7.3 with 5 speeds. And now have a 2010 Crown Vic. Everyone needs to have at least one Crown Vic!!!!

You always need a 4x4 !! I love those old dually's .. but everytime I see one stuck in the wet grass on nearly level ground .. which is quite often .. I remind them sarcastically "yeah that extra 2K bucks on the sticker price don't seem too big of a waste of money about right now" 🙄.. I can't help it .. a 2wd truck in the country doing country things .. is eventually gonna get stuck at the most inconvenient time !! Great video though , it's nice scenery some good experiences for you all

You don't need 4x4, you need good tires and to know how to drive. 4x4 gets you twice as stuck, twice as quick. I have taken one tire fire trucks in crap knee deep with decent tires and the knowledge that momentum makes a difference.

FYL, these trucks don’t need the glow plugs to start above 35 degrees, I live in Texas, & it rarely gets below 35 here, so I just turned em off & just started it like a gasser.
These trucks like a new IPR, CPS, starter, & valve cover gaskets. I changed all the wearable stuff & it ran really good, just don’t run any waste oil over 10% cuz she won’t like it. Waste oil only goes in a 6.9/7.3 idi not a Powerstroke.
That truck is all electric, keep her stock, & she’ll run forever.

Something you need to know you said you cycled the plugs like 5 times but reality you didnt. The wait to start light stays on like 5 seconds but plugs stay on close to 2 minutes. I couldnt fiquire out why it seemed my alt wasnt charging for a bit after running but later i learned it was just the gauge didnt show it right away because the plugs are taking all the low rpm alternator charge till they shut off then the gauge pops up to 14v area

It'd be better if it was the manual transmission. Those have a weak torque converter. You can swap them with the same torque converter out if a C-6 and that helps a lot. Those are awesome motors and are great torque monsters for their time. Definitely miss that sound

When using the jumper cables: Positive terminal running vehicle to the positive terminal on the non-runner, but negative lead goes from negative battery terminal runner vehicle to chassis or some beefy bolt of a non-runner vehicle, NOT to the negative terminal of the non-runner. Common mistake. The way you had it hooked up (both times) you were wasting a lot of energy charging the dead battery.
