I love how raid is pushing their ad campaign like crazy again. It's like they don't have any players / payers anymore. And I couldn't be any more happy 🙂
Once I saw that this was their first time watching Coraline I had to click on it. Like the first time!? This movie is amazing but weird. I'm glad they finally watched it!
A lot of people tend to miss this on their first watch but, Coralines parents are acting the way they are partially due to being stressed as hell. Money related issues due to moving, the Moms medical bill considering the accident she was in, and not having much money for food/groceries. Most of it is somewhat subtle but yea. They dont hate her, but the mom especially comes off as a jerk at the start.
i feel like most people i see watch this movie are way too hard on the parents. its not framed like theyre ignoring her for no good reason. i feel like the movie does a good job of creating a realistic situation where a kid would feel neglected and ignored by their parents without it being an abusive or unloving situation.
Especially when you put into context that this movie was made, released, and about the 2007-2009 recession in the US. Also the movie was made pretty much in coralline’s perspective so the parents seems extra mean because sim sure that’s how any kid would interpret it. I was a kid during this time (pretty much coralline’s age) so I 100% sided with her on everything but now as an adult it’s horrifying and I’m more understanding of the parents☺️
Kids actually have a problem with thinking about the consequences of their actions because they are suppose to learn about it growing up. Which is why it's so important for parents to be present. I get her parents are stressed because of work but you still can't forget about the child you chose to have.
I mean yes, but the stress of moving into a new house can cause them to just focus on work especially if it is due soon. And kids always want the attention of their parents often leaving the parents with no time for themselves. And they don't understand that they need time to work without being distracted.
What I realized in hindsight of this movie is that the Other Mother designed other dad and other Wybie to genuinely care about Coraline. Coraline wanted a friend and loving parents. The other people she wasn’t close to and tbh, she didn’t want to be close to them, so they were made just to impress her. And that was probably the flaw in her manipulation of making these two actually care about her.
I want to just point out that she needed to wait for like three days for them to finish the gardening catalog like they just moved AND they have a deadline at the basically same time of course they are not doing great but any other time before or after they are actually great and fun parents. It's a shame the movie did not include those moments from the book with Coraline and her dad hanging out and such ..
I was obsessed with Dakota Fanning when I was little + grew up with the book so it's safe to say I drove my parents crazy watching watching Coraline over and over again. It only hit me how disturbing it all was until I reached adulthood and in hindsight, my parent's initial reactions make perfect sense lol!
I wouldn't say that Coraline's parents are neglectful, they are just very busy and by the end of the film they begin to pay more attention to Coraline because now that they have handed in their book on botany they have the time to pay attention to her. Coraline (as most kids) also have a very self-centred personality and it can become overbearing on most parents constantly having to care, work, clean, cook etc. for their children all the time. Also, at her age 11-12 is the years that kids start being less dependant on their parental guardians and start rebelling, which is what Coraline does the entire movie. So yeah, I personally wouldn't call is neglect just parents being seperate beings from their children.
The stone Coraline uses to see the ghost's eyes reminds me of the Seeing Stone from The Spiderwick Chronicles lol. I'd love to see a reaction to that film someday - it's such a good film, and so underated.
This is the same director as The Nightmare Before Christmas (Henry Sellick. Tim Burton did not direct NIghtmare Before Xmas, he just produced it) If you want to watch another GREAT stop-motion animation I’d highly recommend Fantastic Mr. Fox
Y’all should check out the rabbit hole of theories people have made about this movie. Like the theory that Coraline never escaped the Other World, that the well is another portal, that the Beldam/Other Mother was once a human and Coraline will be the next Beldam, that the Cat is evil, etc.
I watched Coraline for the first time at 6 when we hosted a house party at my house. All the kids were watching it on our basement tv and I got all the way until the first scene with needle-spider-other-mother until I started crying, so my older brother brought me to the living room and my mom held my hand and tucked me into bed. I was PETRIFIED
I watched this when I was 4 or 5 and was traumatized. Watched it again when I was around 11 and fell in love with it. I love the music, writing, shots, stop motion animation, theories etc. Even now after watching it, it stays in my mind and creeps me out while trying to sleep more than the typical live action rated R horror movie.
To bring some knowledge on the movie, they did consider making it live action but thankfully it was stop motion, all of the puppets were sold years later the highest ones being the other mother dolls, Mr. B’s skin is blue because of a chemical fallout thing with a war I believe, check on that one, and Wyborne was not in the book, also this is based on a book. Glad you enjoyed it, I love this movie now but it terrified me as a kid
I was about 8 the first time I watched this in theatres and I had recurring dreams that the other mother in her spider form chased me trying to gauge my eyes out and sew buttons into them… needless to say this started my battle with night anxiety😭 I also didn’t watch it again until like 2 years ago and it’s a pretty good movie if I move past my traumatic history with it lmao
The book is way creepier than the movie. It includes a part where Coraline has to go down into a basement where she finds the Other Father as a slimy, hideous pile of melting flesh that chases her down a hallway.
Coraline was my favorite childhood movie for some odd reason, and i was literally ecstatic when I saw the notification of nick and Cory watching it🤩 Fan from Pakistan
0:55 .... oh sweet summer children.. your livers will not survive Also! Mr. Bobinski's metal is one given to the teams who cleaned up after the Chernobyl meltdown. The radiation and chemicals tinted his skin blue
there are actually dogs shows where ppl perform plays for dogs lol, it’s for training for service dogs so they’ll be able to sit through movies and plays or anything they need to
It really depends on the child for this film.. many were like traumatized but i loovedd it, i watched it a LOT and started watching horror movies from there! I was probs 9 years old watching coraline, all the chucky movies, SAW and more lol started going to horror movies alone in the cinema the SECOND i hit 13 ! I love the horror genre to this day and Coraline will always be my favorite comfort movie. It has a special place in my heart. Btw I personally love the cat lol best character
I love watching people react to Coraline, but I have never watched a reaction to a scary movie like this that made me laugh so hard my abs hurt 😂 you guys are hiLARIOUS, keep it up
I loved this movie as a kid. I was a weird kid that liked watching my mom do her dissections for nursing and horror was a love of mine. I was 8 when we first watched it. Tim Burton is a staple and the like similar gothic horror spike at the time was what I loved for lol. (Coraline director is Henry Selick) My brother was like 6 at the time and very jumpy but “I’m a big strong boy I won’t be scared”. He was scared but only because of the little jumpscares. I still love this movie (and the book) as an adult tho. It’s a masterpiece.
I watched this movie when I was 3-2 years old I was addicted with it STILL AM AND I LOVED IT (still do) I would literally be rewatching the trailer when I was at family gatherings

I still have the novel this movie was based on. I honestly like the book more, as good as the movie is, mainly because Coraline's better in the book? I must say that as a child I've got traumatized by this film, but you find a way to make it hilarious
Same but it's oddly comforting at the same time-
What I realized in hindsight of this movie is that the Other Mother designed other dad and other Wybie to genuinely care about Coraline. Coraline wanted a friend and loving parents. Yeah cuz then they had time for her
There's actually a bunch of deleted scenes that show those exact moments you're talking about.
Check out the russian guy's medal. It's a soviet military badge which surviving liquidators wore after the Chernobyl disaster.

I think the mice things that lead Coraline towards the door are Pygmy Jerboa. That's the closest thing I could find to look like those in the movie.
Idk why but Corey asking if the had a real mouse circus cracked me up
Love your horror content 😍 makes the movies less terrifying and actually fun to watch 😂
Can you do terrifier 2 next 😂❤️🔥
I swear, everytime you said, "button eyes," all I heard was, "butt knives," and I had to take an extra shot.
