horror is only truly scary to me when you understand the story as well...jump scares aren't enough by themselves...and these two are funny but they spend too much time not understanding half the story. kind of sucks the mood out of it for me. 😒
I don’t think the guys understood much in the movie soooo let me explain. First of all, you have to consider sister Irene and father Burke have dedicated their whole lives in service to the church. So cowering out was never an option as it would mean they’d be breaking a vow to God. They were sent to the monastery to prove that the grounds were unholy and could no longer be used by the church as part of their investigation of the sister that died by suicide. It is important to note that sister Irene is a medium not yet aware of her abilities. This explains why she is seemingly confused when realizing they’re all dead. That is also why the nuns keep coming to her. She is seeing glimpses of the past as well as getting help from them so that she doesn’t make the same mistakes they did. When the monastery was originally opened, a Duke opened a satanic portal which the nuns and priests closed. But not before Valak escaped, allowing him to roam the ground while Sister Charlotte from Annabelle Creation was at the monastery. Which is why she was in the picture as y’all say looking like “holographic Charzard”. They were once again able to close the portal because they had many more nuns at the time. All the nuns had to do to keep the portal closed was constant prayer. And that worked until WWII when unbeknownst to the nuns several bombs caused a rift in the portal allowing Valak entry back to the monastery. By the time the nuns realized Valak was back most of them had already died. They knew that the only thing that would kill Valak in the human world would be the blood of Christ which is what the two nuns at the beginning were looking for. Problem is Valak got to them before they could get the blood of Christ. Later on when Frenchie was attacked by Valak he didn’t realize the demon had attached itself to him as a backup just in case sister Irene sent him back to hell and managed to close the portal, which we now know she managed to do. But she closed the portal with Valak still here now in Frenchies body. At the end you may have noticed Frenchie revealed his real name was Maurice Therialt, which if you remember is the man that was being exorcised years later by Ed and Lorraine Warren at the beginning of the The Conjuring where he touches Lorraine’s arm and shows her a vision of a cloaked demon killing Ed causing her to scream frantically. This being the first moment Valak begins to torment the Warrens. I hope this all made sense :)
Oh and the reason why Lorraine is able to send Valak back to hell by name is because it is a lesser version of it. The part that stayed with Frenchie (Maurice). So it’s like the Charmander to holagraphic Charzard.
@@xanderchrisr I suppose that does make sense, I was really wondering that. I think I'd also add, though this is just from personal belief/opinion and likely not 100% intended by the text, that unlike the others Loraine is (in universe) also an exceptionally powerful medium so she likely didn't JUST send Valek back to hell with his name, but exerted her own spiritual power in the process. For example if Ed had just shouted Valek's name at him it may not have been strong enough to actually banish him the way that Loraine did. Loraine has shown herself to be able to overpower demons at the end of the first movie and... whatever is going on with the third movie, so I think that also has to be taken into consideration that in The Nun even though Irene is able to have visions, nobody there is DIRECTLY able to combat Valek the way that Loraine can, which also is probably one of the reasons why he's able to mess with them as much as he can and takes SUCH a monumental effort to combat.
The nun is my favorite horror movie. It's scary af but i love so much the tension they create in certain scenes! I was waiting for this reaction and you delivered🤩🤩 keep doing this pleaaaaaaseeeee
Actually back in those days when people were in comas, a lot of the time they’d be assumed dead and then buried alive basically. So they added bells to graves in case anyone woke up.

Coming from a person who has a weird obsession with Horror movies.. The Nun is one of the scariest and the best horror movies i watched next to Grudge that i think you should watch as well, that movie itself is amazing
I love horror movies too, but i dont think The Nun falls in the category of the best scariest movies. I think it depends on the person and how much they can take horror. Like for Nick and Cory, this could be the scariest and worst movie ever cuz they can't take horror on any level very easily. For someone who isn't really scared from the typical movie plots and scenes, it takes a unique ass movie to actually be horrifying yk? I still dont know what movie i'd say is the bestest horror movie, but i do know for a fact that in this franchise? The Nun is on the lowest. I heard that the saying “dead ringer” came from the fact people drank from lead-based tankards, which mixed with the liquor often resulted in alcohol poisoning and lead poisoning. People would be unconscious for days general displaying shallow breaths and a slow heart rate, as a result they were presumed dead and buried alive. The bell above the grave was attached to a string that was tied to the “deceased’s” toe or finger, so if they weren’t in fact dead and regained consciousness they could ring the bell to alert someone to dig them up. This is referring to seeing someone that looks identical to a person that is supposed to be dead, when actually it is the same person who woke up buried alive and dug themselves from their own grave.
