I'm old enough to remember when this song was new, and on the radio. I bough this on cassette tape and played it over and over again on my walkman. This song brings back memories of my childhood and teen years. OMD is, and was very underrated. This song touched my soul like few other bands did. Thank you.
OMD has still talent allright. In 2019 a friend of mine went on the ferry IJmuiden-Newcastle just for the concert on board of.....OMD. The singer really sang well and every touch of the keyboard was real. So no playback/ lipsync.
@A&R McChargues If I was being generous, I'd say it's because there's more been more and more music released over the years, it's now harder to create something different, so everything feels similar. If I was being realistic, it's because it's much easier to make 'music' these days, so 'artists' have become lazy and just chuck anything out there that is deemed catchy. They let the machines do the work, instead of doing the work themselves and the charts are then deluged with sound-a-like songs and singers. There are exceptions to this of course but you have to go looking for them, instead of them being presented to you.
@@lwaves Yep. Now many people can afford recording equipment and the market is saturated. Don't know why this one didn't soar to the top of the charts like "If You Leave". In 86 I remember seeing the video once and hearing the song once. I loved it but I guess most others didn't.
@@switch2kryptonite OMD at that time was losing their spirit, soon their career crushed. It was a good but too poppy song, they (and also I) prefered more experimental ones, like the jewels of their three or four first LP'S: Electricity, Enola Gay, Messages, Secret, Telegraph, Genetic Engineering, Almost, and so on...
@@jrmg33 There's not much that OMD did that didn't move me. Enola Gay probably ranks among my favorites. Their first several years though are among my favorites.
This group made some amazing music. I think they were highly underrated only becouse of the ridiculous amount of great music being made back then. Souvenir was my all time favourite , i heard it on radio 1 when it was released in 1981 and instantly loved it. They obviously both love music because they are still performing today. I've seen a few interviews and they both come across as decent genuine guys with no ego's whatsoever , unlike many of today's popstars with their teams of people and ridiculous demands wherever they go. Hopefully they'll continue to perform fot many years.
I still remember the first time I heard this. At secondary school, the same year it was released. Stopped me in my tracks. Astoundingly beautiful song. One of my all time favourites.
Those of us that grew up in these times were truly blessed with the best of times. I look at the landscape today and morn for everyone that will never know the beauty of a time like we had. It's heart wrenching to know they will never experience young innocent life fueled with beautiful music and decent people. And for those of you my age, my generation, tho we have never met, I miss you.
I was obsessed with this song when it came out. Brings me straight back to the 80's. Glad I grew up in a time with such amazing music. 50 yrs old now and still love listening to old school songs.
I was a Junior in HS when this song was released. I remembered brisk , but sunny Saturday mornings when this video was on MTV. Everything was new and anything was possible. it will always remained sentimental and close to my heart forever more.
I can't explain it but OMD just gives me chills... Their music just gets inside me and makes me want to sing aloud wherever I am. Hopefully it's not a crowded elevator next time.
Completely taken by this song I vividly remember being 17 and driving to Tower Records with my girlfriend for this cassette and playing it countless times. We loved this magical music and although she may longer be here physically she's undoubtedly still listening with me.
Classic british song so melodic, pleasant sounding and lyrics you can easily comprehend unlike todays rambling nonsense noise. How on earth today's majority of songs can be liked by today's generation is beyond me.
those of us who lived our teens and 20's during the 80's, man did we live through an incredible time, and I'd take it all over again; the good, bad, and the ugly.
This song IS orchestral. Rich and complex and beautiful like Bach and Mozart. And like Bach and Mozart only a genius could have written this song. One of my all-time favorite songs like Mozart's opera Queen of the Night. I never get tired of listening to these classics. (Saw OMD in concert in 1985. Fabulous.)
Damn... 2024 and I havent heard this since it was released, forgot it existed. Then one day saw the clip on a retro music show and the memories came flooding back... loved this song. Now I can't stop playing it.
Off to see OMD tonight in Birmingham, reminds me of my childhood, my dad absolutely loved them. We always had their music on heading to Rhyl each summer :)

Loved the 80s, loved OMD and this song, brings back so many amazing memories and so much joy it brings, remembering dancing to it, listening in the car or just hanging out with friends and enjoying that time and the music that came with that time period.
I've been listening to this hit over and over again for 4 weeks. For me it's the absolute best 80s I've heard in a long time. This song should be heard with headphones and in the absolute best quality. Everything just fits together perfectly on this hit. Drums, synthesizer, vocals, guitar, ... I've rarely heard something absolutely perfect and I don't think I'm exaggerating!
This song always stuck in my psyche, I have no idea why. It will always be one of my most favourite tracks. Something about the balance of ideas, melody and timing.
One of my favorite groups of all time. It's because of them that I was able to attend Depeche Mode's concert in Pasadena. I belonged to their fan club back then and one tickets, they were one of the opening acts that day. Simple majestic!

This song really did made me want to CRY. Such a sad and yet joyful exuberant song.
It is bittersweet....Joyful as you say.....and with an underlying sadness.
Such a melodically sophisticated track, with a place for every instrument and voice, and a beautiful unique melody. Arguably doesn't even sound dated.
Needs more cowbell. :-)
The cure perfect girl
such a beyond accurate description! very well put
omd didnt date. thats why they are my favourite band in the whole wide world xx
cowbell is like brandy into a christmas cake; too much, and it just starts getting silly.
OMD, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, New Order....those were the days!
You are so right there. THE 80'S were the days of great music.
early mid 80s were best
I Love Erasure
So true.....
depeche mode
Haven't this song since 1987... Thank you for this. Full Closure. 2023. Truly Blessed and Grateful Thank you LIFE!
40 years and still a classic ❤
My favorite OMD song.
Me too. It's a masterpiece
@@jrmg33
Too bad...
This song brings a taste, a smell and plenty of good memories that would never be replaced by any other! A real masterpiece!
Woke up with this song in my head had to play it great song takes me back
I can't explain it but OMD just gives me chills... Their music just gets inside me and makes me want to sing aloud wherever I am. Hopefully it's not a crowded elevator next time.
that's how music should be - touches your soul! I know what you mean :)
Was a teenager back then. The 80s music felt nostalgic/moving back then and now it touches even more deeply
Can't get this band's songs out of my head. 80's forever.
Completely taken by this song I vividly remember being 17 and driving to Tower Records with my girlfriend for this cassette and playing it countless times. We loved this magical music and although she may longer be here physically she's undoubtedly still listening with me.
OMG . Gefühlte 1000 Jahre nicht gehört und kann immernoch mitsingen und tanzen. Sooooooo geil .
iconic eighties song.
this catapult me back to my lovely eighties childhood
The eighties cannot be beat for sheer volume of great songs. This band had many of them.
Classic british song so melodic, pleasant sounding and lyrics you can easily comprehend unlike todays rambling nonsense noise. How on earth today's majority of songs can be liked by today's generation is beyond me.
Agreed!
I've been look for this song more than 30 yrs ,.. i used to hear it in Music Box program in Dubai channel 😊.. i became young with this song ❤ 80's
I went to see them in Manchester last month - Pure joy!! Took me 4-decades to finally get to see my favourite band of the '80s.
I saw them live and when they stepped out in this harmony and the backup, it was so.... awesome!
those of us who lived our teens and 20's during the 80's, man did we live through an incredible time, and I'd take it all over again; the good, bad, and the ugly.
What a talented bunch they were, an exceptional song, just like all the rest they produced.
Berlin, Germany is when I heard this song.... my gosh... so many memories from that time...thank you for posting...just beautiful!!!
Off to see OMD tonight in Birmingham, reminds me of my childhood, my dad absolutely loved them. We always had their music on heading to Rhyl each summer :)
Saw them in Philly at the Tower Theatre in the 80's - still one of the best shows I've ever seen.

If this works it’s a link to them performing with an orchestra

uno de los mejores temas musicales de todos los tiempos ... unicos e irrepetibles gracias OMD x siempre
Brings the 80's back to life!
Wish I could go back sometimes
OMD legends!

Jeezus, I wept when I heard the opening bars of this song as I embraced it like an old friend. I'm 54 and forgot how good these guys were!
Doesn't it just make you want to sit down and weep for our lost 80's youth? Sigh.....
I couldn't have put it any better my friend, I was listening Johnny Hates Jazz Turn Back the Clock and I really wanted to sit and weep for a magical time that's gone....,,,,,wish I could really turn back the clock!
+MJ FAN 😢
definitely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I had known then what I know now about life, I would have been so much more confident in my teens and early twenties. Ah well!

My head is always in the 80's it was the best. The music is timeless...
Saw them in concert last nite at Bournemouth BIC ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. They sounded just as good as they did back in the day. Gave a fantastic performance . Enjoyed every minute
Man the 80's ruled big time. Can play this song over and over again. My youth and getting ready for the high school dance.
Thank you for making such lovely song, 30 plus years later and I still enjoy it, puts tears in my eyes.
Bonjour oui magnifique chanson elle date mais elle est toujours aussi belle à ecouter 🎶☺
Smashing tune,'86 was a fab year for music&this was a highlight.Awesome production,timeless synth-pop classic.🎶😊👌
Loved the 80s, loved OMD and this song, brings back so many amazing memories and so much joy it brings, remembering dancing to it, listening in the car or just hanging out with friends and enjoying that time and the music that came with that time period.
Bloody hell.....would somebody hurry up and invent a time machine....I want to go back.
LOL yea, music died in the 90's lol 80's is timeless
I covered my bike with plastic, poured orange juice and WD-40 on it & set it on fire, but it's just not working
I miss the 1980's it had some really good music !
tracy roberts beatiful true i agree completly
The greatest part of the human brain is memory, the worst thing that comes from memory is nostalgia. We remember but we can never go back! So sad.
Yes, here in New Zealand 🇳🇿, and the Harmonies of the Band makes this Song 🎵 timeless 👌
OMG, talk about memories, those were da time, I love their music, forever 80s
I've been listening to this hit over and over again for 4 weeks.
For me it's the absolute best 80s I've heard in a long time.
This song should be heard with headphones and in the absolute best quality.
Everything just fits together perfectly on this hit.
Drums, synthesizer, vocals, guitar, ... I've rarely heard something
absolutely perfect and I don't think I'm exaggerating!
Saw OMD live in Utrecht with my brother around 2007. This song was the best moment. The whole venue was singing along.
Fantastic song, from FANTASTIC era. Absolute classic. Brilliant group, never tire of listening to OMD ......
Tantos años buscándola y por fin la encuentro, recuerdo escuchándolo en los 80 y alzando el volumen de la radio al toque, que maravilla! Gracias buscador de canciones de Google! 😉 solo tuve que silbar 😅
