Bryan Ferry is gifted. I listen to most of his songs. His voice is not loud but like a glowing arrow it pierces deep within the heart. His instruments are also powerful. His song 'Slave To Love' is my everyday drug
51 years old. Roxy has risen to my top 5 of all time bands. I always liked Roxy, even as a kid, but you appreciate this music even more, as time goes on. It's like Mozart, totally timeless music that will never die. People will be listening to Bryan Ferry's voice for centuries and attempt to copy that voice, but only in vain. I hope that the younger generations appreciate the greatest decade of music that ever was.
"Absolutely, age seems to deepen the appreciation for timeless music, doesn't it? Roxy Music holds a special place in my heart too, and Bryan Ferry's voice is indeed unparalleled. It's like a fine wine that only gets better with time. The music of Roxy and artists like them transcends generations, much like Mozart's compositions. Bryan Ferry's voice, a true gem, will undoubtedly echo through the ages. Here's to hoping that younger generations discover and cherish the magic of the greatest musical era. Cheers to the enduring legacy of Roxy Music and the timeless beauty of their sound!"
G'day from Australia 🇦🇺, I was 7 in 82 when this was released! This song is beyond Nostalgic for me! ❤❤. I appreciate life before mobile computers in your hand all day! Best times I was lucky ❤❤
As a guitarist in a hard rock 70’s band, this was distinctly different than what my leanings were but I loved it anyway. Brian was a different kind of cool, the ladies man kind.
I feel you! Im 16 and recently got into roxy music. Their album Avalon always puts me to tears. The album is so magical sounding. Im a huge smashing pumpkins fan and love their album siamese dream, never thought there'd be anything to match the whimsical sound of it. Roxy music has some of the most beautiful music ive ever heard. So impressive
Love this song. I also have tears!! Makes me feel young, romantic, emotional etc. Whatever happened to romance?? Such a beautiful thing. Veronica Aiken.
There are very few songs that are in every way a perfect thing. From production to lyrics and instrumentation. This is one of those songs. A timeless classic.
Ahhh...seems like yesterday lying on my bed with my gf in high school, listening to this and singing in harmony with her drinking $2.00 wine in 1982. Memories I'll take to my grave. ♥
I'm a 470 year old vampire and nothing brings me back to the 80s - that's the *19* 80s, not the 17 80s ;) - like the smooth mellow sounds of Roxy Music
My favourite song. It is wistful and poignant. My daughter was born two years ago, when I was fifty-eight, and my wife and I played this song at her delivery and after. My wife and I are blessed beyond possible expression. Me, more so. Never a day passes when I express my thanks. This song is a reminder of all the sublime moments of life, despite the most tragic year in my memory. Wishing everyone nothing but great health and happiness in '21 and beyond. Have faith. Pursue your dreams. All things
It was a rainy day in October 1993. My gf and I hit the road from Bremen to Amsterdam listening Avalon album. Uncertainties and tension of being ex Yugoslavian war refugees mixed with a beauty of lovely moments between us collided with sounds coming from my old car’s speakers. In retrospective your hard days somehow became the most memorable hours of your life. It’s 2024, I live in California, my ex gf is somewhere in Croatia and I am still listening to this album. Love to all of you.
Dude, that's awesome, thank you for sharing just a glimpse of your life. I can only imagine growing up in that environment. I grew up in Galway, NY in the US. Snowmobiles, chopping wood, shoveling snow in the winters, dirt bikes, allot of Jack Danials, Southern Comfort, and malt liquor beer in the summer. My hat's off to you. The strong survive.
This song is about young love, The love that is the most intense but the most heartbreaking. The love you get only once. The love you spend the rest of your life grieving.
so eloquently put,,i have been lucky to have the love of 4 fantastic women in my life and i still love them all,,,i cherish the memories i have of them and the times we shared
Beautifully put and absolutely true. If those feelings for that 1st love lasted a lifetime, then you have been more blessed than the richest person on this planet. Here's to L❤️VE.
My god, that VOICE. Bryan Ferry could sing numbers out of the phone book and make them sound romantic. And the synth outro .... such a thing of absolute beauty.
Agree on the outro... Whenever this is played on the radio during an autumnal / winter drive the outro feels like stereo heaven.. The restraint in the guitar playing and the subtlety of the drumming sounds superb
This is one of the earliest songs I can recall hearing as a very young child. I was born 2002. I recently got to see Roxy Music live during their 2022 tour. My mother, and my grandmother, adore them. I was very quietly emotional throughout the gig-I couldn’t quite believe, being from a completely different generation, that I was able to experience such an iconic, incredible band play live. Beyond amazing.
Music knows no boundaries. A song from 100 years ago can make me smile or cry. Music changes through generations, but you can still relate emotionally to it. Glad you enjoyed it.
He’s not underrated at all. He’s incredibly well regarded both by music experts and fans. I think people often say someone is “underrated” when what they really mean is simply that they like them.
2:15. Love the way he turns his head to look up at the big screen of the band performing, whilst watching from the front row of seats, as if in a movie theatre. ❤
Always reminds of a holiday in the mid 80s in Marbella. Sneaking smokes as a 13 year old on our glass paneled balcony whilst listening to Roxy music on my Walkman. Hopelessly dreaming of a sophisticated parallel universe. 😃
Beautiful song. I was battling alcohol years ago and was sat in a pub on my own when this tune came on. I know the lyrics are that there's "nothing more than this" but for me I knew there had to be, other than drinking by myself all day. TY BF and Roxy Music, you are an inspiration and this tune will always be in my top ten. Absolute talent.
Please know that just by posting this comment you now have hundreds if not thousands of people rooting for you and praying for you to stay on track. You can do it! I sent you all my best wishes!
I can't believe this is from '82. It sounds beautiful and contemporary like it was made yesterday. I hadn't heard it in a long time until I saw it featured in the films Lost in Translation and The Normal Heart.
I played the Avalon CD for my seven year old son (I'm 57) for the first time three weeks ago. Now it's all he wants to listen to when we are in my car. He has loved music since he was still in the womb. It's amazing how well composed and performed music transcend the age and generation gap. Roxy Music, especially Bryan Ferry, are in a class alone. Avalon sounds as relevant now as in 82, and Mr. Ferry is still going strong.
Gary Thomas This final era of Roxy is simply sublime..The only thing I can think to describe these gems (Avalon, More Than This, Oh Yeah, Slave To Love, Angel Eyes, Dance Away and Jealous Guy among the standouts) is to borrow and re-word Obi Wan Kenobi's words to describe Luke's Father's (Anakin's Youngling killing saber..although he was officially a Sith by that point..but i digress) lightsaber before passing it on to Luke....And I quote.."This is the weapon of A Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An ELEGANT weapon for a more CIVILIZED AGE!" - Obi Wan Kenobi Star Wars ep IV : A New Hope! Delete and re-write a few words and that legendary quote Brilliantly describes the work Roxy released on their last two LP's. Those songs are without a doubt - Timeless!! Elegant music for a more civilized age....indeed!
Oh, these "generation" comments are just a little too cringy. Yeah, like, people can listen to compositions from the 1800's. Like wow. People still listen to that? Like wow, what're the odds?
So much 80's music is timeless and could have literally been released yesterday and not sound dated even after 40 years. That's the essence of the 80's, not only their impact on all subsequent pop/rock but also how it stands the test of time. The 80's were a state of mind.
It’s hard to articulate but culturally living off music in the 80s projected you through some kind of bodily experience. And to this day, decades later, that experience is just as tangible when you hear these tracks. A thesis should be written!
@@sarahshakesby6820 - I totally agree, as I've stated many times in my comments, I truly believe that the music gods came down to earth and walked among us mere mortals in the 1980's. Music-wise it was definitely the best decade to be a teenager or a twenty-something.
I can't use many words to describe the beauty of this song... awe, nostalgia, inspiration, sadness, a cocktail of emotions that hit me hard, it's literally one of the (if not the most) beautiful song I've ever heard, I never thought a song could make me feel so much.. thanks, thank you so much Roxy Music, Vice City and Mr. Tony Vercetti
Its shocking to think of Bryan Ferry, and to know now that he's 75. But not as shocking to see myself in the mirror and expect the same face when I first heard this memorable song.
This song reminds me of driving my mother weekly to the cancer center to get her treatment.. She would light up and sing and make up her own words! Rip mom!! Love you so much until we meet again!!!!!💞💗🙏❤️❣️💕💜💋💞😞
@@TheRealActualBryanFerry thanks for your contribution to music. I'm a producer and rapper myself, but when I'm in the studio, I would have slave to love on repeat.
A timeless classic. When I first heard it as a young lad in the 80s the music moved me in a way I'd never felt before. Now that I have had the ups and downs of love and life as an adult the words now make more sense and the song now moves me more than ever. Its almost too beautiful (and sad) to listen to anymore. Thank for such a beautiful song Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music

Surely in class of own I thought it produced in 1989. , but 1982. - it isn't necessarily about a beautiful girl - but a beautiful place. almost like heaven where such person would come from- ✨ not American for the most part very European
I was 19 then, I'm now 58 and still love this song. Actually, I wasn't a fan of the 80's music, but there were a few songs I was into...More Than This was one of them. Just happened to stumble onto this tonight...it's weird how it instantly brought me back to those days when there was 'No care in the world' and 'Who could say where we're going' in life. I remember cranking up this song while driving and how great it felt!
I'm 67 and wasn't a fan of 80s music at all, but Roxy Music was a band of the 70s that had the staying power to last into the 80s. I was a fan from the first time I heard their s/t debut in 1972 and especially on first listen to 'For Your Pleasure' with 'Do The Strand' in '73 when I was an 18 year old college student. Just picked up 'Lyrics' by Bryan Ferry and it transports me back to those early albums with Brian Eno all the way to 82's 'Avalon' which still takes my breath away. 'The Complete Studio Recordings' 10 disc box set is sitting right next to the volume, neither moves far as I listen and peruse often.
My favourite Roxy Music song by far. It's atmospheric sound, amazing crooning lines & soaring vocals by Ferry, the subtle textural guitar and those lush synths. It's pop and art!

Bryan Ferry is gifted. I listen to most of his songs. His voice is not loud but like a glowing arrow it pierces deep within the heart. His instruments are also powerful. His song 'Slave To Love' is my everyday drug
That is a great tune too why not.
It's 2023, almost 2024 and this song is still awesomely timeless
its just past midnight 2024 , and this song came up
Immer noch und zeitlos GUT 😊❤

It's 2024.
I completely agree just a wonderful song and his voice is perfect !
I am only 20.
And i just love 80s' music.❤❤
This is such a beautiful song 💝💝💝💝💝

As a guitarist in a hard rock 70’s band, this was distinctly different than what my leanings were but I loved it anyway. Brian was a different kind of cool, the ladies man kind.
I'm 65. There's no more prettier songs than this. That's telling you something. I'm tears always hearing it
I am 42 Years old and I think the same. Brian Ferry has created and sung beautiful songs .
Me too 🇮🇹
Love this song. I also have tears!! Makes me feel young, romantic, emotional etc. Whatever happened to romance?? Such a beautiful thing. Veronica Aiken.
I have the same feelings, although I am younger and heard this song for the first time quite later in the series "The Americans".
I'm 350 years old and this song still hits just as much as it did when I was 309
Aha
I'm 353 years old.
We should get a coffee and reminisce

It's a song that can't ever be redone by another artist.
Beautifully put Nosferatu 👍
Yeah, but how much do you weigh?
😀
Bet you didn't like that cross at the beginning of this video.
All things
💫
God bless you and your family 👍
Thank ya, MS! Where you are, you definitely live a ‘more than this’ life we could all learn from.
wish you well. Bless you and yours - health and success. xxxooo
Great folks here.
A magic blend of fantastic vocalist and brilliant backing accompaniment. One of the all time greats in the music industry
Just sublime stuff. Loved 80's Roxy!
Me, listening this beauty on December 2024.😊

Yes. The love you spend the rest of your life grieving...unfortunately so.
so eloquently put,,i have been lucky to have the love of 4 fantastic women in my life and i still love them all,,,i cherish the memories i have of them and the times we shared
Beautifully put and absolutely true. If those feelings for that 1st love lasted a lifetime, then you have been more blessed than the richest person on this planet. Here's to L❤️VE.
I thought it was about death and the absence of an afterlife.
This song is so 80s : ultra smooth, perfect melody, feels good... a golden era.
The instrumental at the end is pure perfection, my favourite 80s song and the song I've listened to most in my life by a huge margin.
I could listen to the end part of Bryan Ferry’s “. More than this “ on a 1 hour loop once a week.
This song epitomizes the 80’s… absolutely amazing
But no one really ever heard Of it

My god, that VOICE. Bryan Ferry could sing numbers out of the phone book and make them sound romantic. And the synth outro .... such a thing of absolute beauty.
Your right Andrea what a wonderful singer ❤️
Don't forget the perfect guitar chords from Phil Manzanera in the outro... sublime!
Agree on the outro... Whenever this is played on the radio during an autumnal / winter drive the outro feels like stereo heaven.. The restraint in the guitar playing and the subtlety of the drumming sounds superb

This song is very ethereal, and vibrant, and yet the tunes are so haunting of a time back in the 80's when time stood still.

One of Roxy Music "Best Song"!!! Listen to this everyday!!! Love the drum parts in this song.😊😊😊
Im so jealous!
Did your mom & grandmother go with you? I went with mine to see one of the last performances of... Elvis Presley! I was about 6.
Music knows no boundaries. A song from 100 years ago can make me smile or cry. Music changes through generations, but you can still relate emotionally to it. Glad you enjoyed it.
Makes today's 'music' sound like...💩?
That is SO TERRIFIC GIRL!
This song is just magical, and so is mr.Ferry's voice. Timeless gem.
He's on fire. Literally! 😄
Love this song so much
Magical.
his voice is so Beautiful!!
Bryan Ferry doesn't need music, he could sing acapella without any problems and it would sound great
Love this whole album, there is no other band quite like Roxy Music
I am the Toe Cutter. What a wonderful philosophy you have.
Forgot how much I love this album December 2024!❤
Ferry is much underrated in my view. This song is pure genius.
He’s not underrated at all. He’s incredibly well regarded both by music experts and fans. I think people often say someone is “underrated” when what they really mean is simply that they like them.
@@suzeinthecityhe's underrated by Americans. Roxy and Ferry always had more success in Europe. Although "More Than This" was a hit in the US.
Beautiful singer songwriter
I love this man and his band
A fairly simple song, only 4 chords but it is the arrangement that makes it so atmospheric and lush.
I always wanted to say this. His voice is like a beautiful sigh. There. I said it. Amazing song.
Glad u said that nothing more beautiful than this song x

But particularly the melodic tone of Phil Manzaneras 🎸
The outro in and of itself is heartbreakingly beautiful and good
This song is a true classic, immune to the passage of time, every time it sounds better.

Nunca me cansa escuchar esa banda. Es arte musical puro.
I can't believe this is from '82. It sounds beautiful and contemporary like it was made yesterday. I hadn't heard it in a long time until I saw it featured in the films Lost in Translation and The Normal Heart.
"Sounds like it was made yesterday" sounds more like insult rather than compliment, considering how shitty most of the modern music is.
He definitely made an album! Roxy music in 1975 maybe 1976 ! 💛
There is nobody like Bryan Ferry. He is so unique, suave, cool and sensual. He gives off a great vibe.
Yes I like the way he dresses, especially the white coloured suit he wears in "Lets Stick Together" and his band Roxy Music.
Fala sério, ele é a cara da sua versão Tupiniquim Carlos Alexandre, feio pa dédéu!
He gives off a "geography teacher that all the girls fancied" vibe.
❤
What a great decade it was. The music, the clothes, the parties etc.Being a teenager in those times were so carefree and full of fun.
Damn ,u fathered a child at 50. Theres still hope for me yet.
MrJustsaysean yes sir. And I have another two year old boy. My wife is 36. And no, I don't need Viagra:)
Gary Thomas it is timeless. Wonderful musicianship and extraordinary production values. Still listening to this day.
Gary Thomas This final era of Roxy is simply sublime..The only thing I can think to describe these gems (Avalon, More Than This, Oh Yeah, Slave To Love, Angel Eyes, Dance Away and Jealous Guy among the standouts) is to borrow and re-word Obi Wan Kenobi's words to describe Luke's Father's (Anakin's Youngling killing saber..although he was officially a Sith by that point..but i digress) lightsaber before passing it on to Luke....And I quote.."This is the weapon of
A Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An ELEGANT weapon for a more CIVILIZED AGE!"
- Obi Wan Kenobi
Star Wars ep IV : A New Hope!
I was listening to Roxy Music back in 1982 when this came out and I'm still listening to Roxy Music today. You can't replace class
No it is a wonderful track and album too. I had the words to it then in 1982 in smash hits as well. Great times and tunes too really why not there.
Damn....another song from the 80's that I really enjoyed when I first heard it but had no idea it would be even better 35 years later.
Gosh you are so right
I can't use many words to describe the beauty of this song... awe, nostalgia, inspiration, sadness, a cocktail of emotions that hit me hard, it's literally one of the (if not the most) beautiful song I've ever heard, I never thought a song could make me feel so much.. thanks, thank you so much Roxy Music, Vice City and Mr. Tony Vercetti
