  • I never wanted another
Come over to me and discover
I want to be near you
And you need to be far away
You always seem to make me feel at home
    Hey you
I never know, I never know
    I never know why
You make me want to cry
I never know, I never know
    I never know why
    Forever live and die
I look at all of the people
    They're over and over
    You never get any older
I wish that you could be here
I look at you and I make the same mistakes
    Hey you
    People like us
I never know, I never know
    I never know why
You make me want to cry
I never know, I never know
    I never know why
    Forever live and die

As a teenager of the 80s, I was always into classic rock. I used to give my younger sister a hard time because she was into "New Wave." I always thought it was light and weak. She had all of these albums - yes, on vinyl. This song is one of many that I would hear playing in her bedroom behind her closed door. I think part of the reason she closed her door was because of my childish, snobbish, intolerant, holier-than-thou attitude about music. Maybe I wasn't that bad, but it sure seems that way as I listen to all of these gems at 50 years old, missing her terribly. RIP, I love you.

@@lenny2512 That's because you have been brainwashed wit politically correct bull shit, it would be interesting to hear what you have to say about the 2000's in 40 years time, that is of course if you and your generation haven't destroyed man kind already with your arrogant ignorance. It would also be interesting at to what "boomers" have done for you to blame us..? What have you done that has been so wonderful to save us all..?

I never listened to OMD in the '80s (the particular layered synthy-ness of most electronic music of that era annoyed me), so I'd never heard this song until I was watching a show on Netflix. I'm shocked to find out it's so old! It doesn't sound at all dated the way most '80s music does. I was thinking it was by some new group that was just referencing a vintage sound. Definitely going to be buying this.

I am a New Wave fan as this was my era, went to see OMD, they are brilliant live,! Just great harmonies. They will be on at Leeds Festival, UK, 26 June 2021 with other 80s bands, ABC, Haircut 100, Tony Hadley, T`Pau, Heaven 17, Howard Jones, Nik Kershaw, The Beat, Fiction Factory, Sister Sledge, Kim Wilde, etc.
They are also doing a 2024 tour of the UK. Like their song says Forever Live and Die (their music will exist for a lifetime).

@@wolflair3329 much of the sales have occurred years after their initial success. Those sales are projected over a longer period of time comparative to their sales while they were popular. Initially in the U.K., then abroad. American listeners( or should I say producers and stations alike tried to market them as a quick, flash in the pan commodity, while they were so much more than that, as you can see and HEAR! That is why the commentor states that they were underrated. That's because, THEY WERE!!!
