Omd probably one of the most underrated bands of the 80s by those who didn't appreciate great music by great musicians that is... Omd were ahead of their time..
Brilliant video. Such a haunting, ethereal, melody … people slagged the bands off back then. But the more people got older, stepped back and evaluated things with the passage of time, opinions changed and memories became warmer.
@Maad Wunz The drumming at the start is a bit similar. I used to think OMD played lovely music but their lyrics were a bit twee in comparison to Joy Division. Mind you not too many indie bands were as dark as Joy Division.
It’s a pity that the video is set up so eloquently and historically correct but the chess players are playing with the board the wrong way round. (White square right corner).
In 1980 I was 14, and am so grateful that I was able to live my youth through that decade, when music was music, and OMD were there to bring joy to your ears and lives. The 80s were definitely a time to be enjoyed. So many great groups, artists, singers, dancers, discos, clubs, etc. When I hear music from that era, it puts a smile on my face, and you know that it will always stand the test of time. So glad I was born in the mid 60s.
For me, this is the greatest song and video from OMD. I'm 57 and when I hear the first notes I still get goose bumps. March 15th 2022.. I got those goose bumps again when they played those first notes at the Royal Albert Hall last night. Andy, Paul, Martin & Stuart, thank you for a fantastic concert. 26 live songs in all their glory.

Born 1963 so the 80s music was my time. We had the best music. You could sing along or dance to eat. The clothes were great. Happy days on pub runs at the weekend. Where did the years go. I'm 61 and it makes me sad that all the fun has gone 😢 November 2024
We loved the 80s, growing up and enjoying life in the 80s and we loved OMD. It was the best era in music and entertainment in general. How do we know this music was the best and timeless, because we loved it then and we love it even more so now, realizing that it will never repeat itself in music, movies or feelings. Thank you OMD and that decade of entertainment for incredible memories.

OMD were years ahead of their time , well done Andy and the rest of the Birkenhead lads , its 2022 we're on the verge of war and this track still sounds brilliant, im 54 now , just proves how good omd really were
this is one of so many great hits from OMD , the 80`s rocked with this group , some eerie songs , some up beat , a vast difference in tracks over the years, OMD STILL POPULAR IN 2022
This was one of my mums favourite songs, she took her own life many years ago, sometimes it will come on the radio just at the right time and take my breath away for a second, that intro is haunting!

Whitney, (RIP) Maria, Phil, Police, David (RIP), Prince (RIP), Michael (RIP), John, Freddy (RIP) and the others ..you music is written in ths stone forever . Thanks forever WE LOVE YOU
Once upon a time, there used to be real music and great songs like this one. Now we have stupid lyrics, ganster-like, in which if you don't swear, if you don't mention cheating, being a "bad-ass" or anything like it, then you are none. Stupid times we are living, hey. God bless Jeanne D'Arc, if I ever come back to France, I'll visit your grave. Thank you OMD for the wonderful music and to my brother for making me listen to it!
@@misscristinatheteacher5068 Your brother had wonderful taste in music. OMD have so many fantastic songs, it is amazing that they were so underrated. I'm in Australia, and they are meant to be coming out late this year or early next year to support Simple Minds. I seen them in 1983 in Queensland. This bloody covid might have a say in it though.
@@misscristinatheteacher5068 Yeah pretty good thanks. I haven't missed a days work. Our state of Victoria, has had a bad run with the virus, we are in lockdown. But it looks like it's getting better, so fingers crossed. How is it in Thailand?
I'm so glad that I was old enough to be living through this music when it was brand new, as a teen. Back in the days when we had cassette tapes, boom boxes, walkmans and parachute pants. I amassed a small collection about 200 CD's and 80 or so cassettes and only recently lost it in a repossessed storage unit.
This song was my mother’s and my absolute favorite when I was a little child. Even as an adult, I continued to listen to it from time to time and, of course, never forgot it. When my mother passed away in 2011, I had this song played at her funeral. It was heartbreaking, but I’m sure she would have liked it. Rest in peace, Mom ❤
Wow!! Saw them last night in Manchester... they were absolutely superb! It took me four decades to see my favourite '80s band - so glad I finally got there :)
Love this track, I'm 53 so I remember it well. A beautiful song. Another gorgeous song is Sugar Hiccup by the Cocteau Twins. Both these songs are waltz's
I was 10 when these came out. Loved it then, still love it now. OMD were way ahead of their time. Thanks for the great memories - and the ability to play this for the next 40 years.
The sad thing is that some of my youth have already left, of course much too early, but it shows that the impacts are getting closer, oh man, how did I love my youth and the 80s 👍😢
I was once hired as a DJ at a wedding and they asked me to play a waltz for the newlyweds to dance to. I played this song and the whole wedding party cheered by the first sounds of it. Not to mention that the bride and the groom loved it, the dancefloor filled quickly and they all thanked me later especially for that stroke of genius to play Maid of Orleans instead of some classical piece (which I failed to bring to the party).

Omg one of the greatest hits of the 80s absolutely brilliant song🖒
Louise Fox
Its even better live
😚😙😚😙
Another brilliant song from this totally underrated duo.
The 80's was 1 of the most incredible times for music and OMD was iconic for a sound an uniqueness some of the lesser known sounds are just unbelievable! 😍 ❤️ - truly truly beautiful music 😍
One of the most beautiful synth sounds ever made!!!!
OMD were years ahead of their time , well done Andy and the rest of the Birkenhead lads , its 2022 we're on the verge of war and this track still sounds brilliant, im 54 now , just proves how good omd really were
You are the same age as I am now too. I guess we remember from the time this was in the charts too-thank you!!
Wow i didnt know these lads were from
Birkenhead ,,i live 10 min up the road, wow
Absolute classic tune. Yes the 80s music was brilliant. Great video. Stunning lady too
this is one of so many great hits from OMD , the 80`s rocked with this group , some eerie songs , some up beat , a vast difference in tracks over the years, OMD STILL POPULAR IN 2022

This was one of my mums favourite songs, she took her own life many years ago, sometimes it will come on the radio just at the right time and take my breath away for a second, that intro is haunting!
🙏🙏🙏may the lord sweet Jesus Christ grant your mum eternal rest ❤️
Bless you Veronica take care .
As so sorry Veronica. My daughter died when she was 6 so I know exactly where your coming from. Huge hugs X
Im so sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss sweetheart. Xxx
They were so young when they composed this song in 1981, just let that sink in.
An absolute masterpiece. Timeless classic.
The passion of youth ❤🔥
I’m 34 years old and I remembered listening to this has a small child. I still love OMD.
I'm 30 and all this music is way before My time but nothing beats the older music. I hate all the rapping rubbish of my time
people dont write this kind of music anymore.........its in our timeline and just appreciate it
I was 12 years old in 1980...all the 80's is the best of the best of the music so ever heard ! OMD and other groups helped me to improve my english at school and I still listen to them today (my birthday) thanks god for this true music coming from the heart..
Well said!
@@anthonytesta5964 thank you, it is true, right? As a teacher I find it really hard
@@anthonytesta5964 greetings to you from Thailand, I've been here since the covid started messing with our lives. How are you getting on?
Tolle Melodie, die sehr schöne Erinnerungen weckt.
My Mum & Dad bought me this on 7" vinyl for my 13th birthday in 1981 ....and I STILL love it (and OMD!) ♥
Same here Maxine, this is the first single I ever bought. I was 12 then and I too still think its great !
@maxine Me too, it was my first vinyl-single, I was born 1968 too, kisses.
@70ajc This single is the "first single" song, it was my first vinyl single too, kisses.
15 one of best songs ever
Great cover featuring Joan of arc in stain glass
This is just so heart touching. Great song. Best OMD song ever.
Marko Kostako souvenir
My late father loved this and used to whistle all the way through. Brings tears to my eyes.
Wow!! Saw them last night in Manchester... they were absolutely superb! It took me four decades to see my favourite '80s band - so glad I finally got there :)
Glad you got to see them,I’m the same 40 years on and finally going to see them in march next year.👏👏👏🙏🙏
Love this track, I'm 53 so I remember it well. A beautiful song. Another gorgeous song is Sugar Hiccup by the Cocteau Twins. Both these songs are waltz's
This song is an absolute masterpiece.
This synth intro is one of the best things I've ever heard
Meine erste Single. Danke OMD für 40 Jahre Gänsehaut.
I was 10 when these came out. Loved it then, still love it now. OMD were way ahead of their time. Thanks for the great memories - and the ability to play this for the next 40 years.
Das war das Lieblingslied meiner Oma. Wir haben es auf ihrer Trauerfeier gespielt. Oma hoffentlich hast du es jetzt gut da oben❤️🕊️
Godbless rip
The sad thing is that some of my youth have already left, of course much too early, but it shows that the impacts are getting closer, oh man, how did I love my youth and the 80s 👍😢
Close my eyes and I'm back in time.
Still miss the 80's...
I feel like being at 1431.
Pixel Art Ola haha brilliant makes me laugh every time I read it
Shell-Martijn When everything was better..
***** Yes, that's true...
Shell-Martijn I didn't live in the 80s myself,
but from everything I & see/hear, everything was better.
People, food, music & even thought :)
An absolute work of art. Simple and class. A masterpiece. This is why this great era for music will never bow out. Forever trapped!
I'm a tough guy, but, genuinely,i feel like crying when i hear this. Reminds me of good times long ago. Times not so good for me now. life sucks.
THIS tune commands respect!! Beyond beautiful!
