You know, one of the best things about being in my 50's now, is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's........Priceless, and I wouldn't change them for the world!
My dear sister passed away right before Thanksgiving ...This was one of "our " songs when we were kids growing up together in the wonderful, amazing 80's. I will keep this song close to my heart for as long as I am here, it will truly be a souvenir.

Me and my grandpa had this shared love of all things music and him being so cool.. he’d let me control the stereo from like 6-26 years old whenever we were together. He really loved OMD and The Sundays. I miss him so much.
This takes me back to Maida Vale, London where I lived in the late 1970's! What a time! Great jobs, good money and the parties!! I remember a hot summer's afternoon at Katie's place where this was played on and on❤️
THIS was a huge PART of my life. I met my wife in the AUGUST of 1981.So it has become OUR tune . WE are still together and WILL be 33 years married in September. We have a son and granddaughter. Just a great tune from a another eighties band that have stood the test of time .

Love it that you all have such nice memories of this song! It reminds me of childhood summers and life feeling so peaceful! A beautiful song that's for sure! ☺️
How i long to return to the 70's amd 80's,no internet, mobile phones, just a pure and simple life shared with friends over a beer and a smoke and a bike ride on my Triumph.

Nostalgia, bitter/sweet. I was in my prime meeting girls and having a blast with friends and life was easy. Now I'm 57 and my life and the world around me will never come close to those halcyon days of the 80's. Young people have everything and nothing now, nothing seems tangible or authentic anymore.
@@paulfox5493 I'm 54,the 80,s seems to stir more emotions in people musically than any other decade, just so glad i was there dancing and snogging to it all! :-)
dude i've had this song in my head for YEARS.... like, ever since I was a child I've had this tune playing and I could never find it because it was only the turururu that got stuck in my head, so I couldn't search for lyrics... not to mention that I didn't understand English at the time... this year I heard it again at a town party and I WAS SO STOKED TO FIND IT, SO I ASKED EVERYONE I KNEW, AND NO ONE COULD HELP ME. AND NOW, SOME 5 MONTHS LATER, I STUMBLE UPON THIS BAND AND DOWNLOAD THEIR BEST OF, AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW, THIS SONG IS THERE. I'M A REALLY HAPPY PERSON TODAY.
i know the feeling. i've searched for songs by typing "do's" and "da's" and even hummed into shazam to find songs, sometimes it just takes time and a bit of crazy passion to get to those old ones haha!
Ah! Ah! Ah! I did this exact same thing at work because i couldn't find it in any 80' compilations! I hid myself into the servers room and hummed it into shazam, no need to say it didn't find anything… I found it by typing "1980 electro pop" on RUclips though, now i have this song stuck in my head for days… Makes me kind if depressed… I loved this song so much when i was 6, in 1981, now i'm 44 and it makes me sad...
Been there, I had a song from my childhood that I couldn´t find, I went to several record stores I sang the tururu tune to the clerks and nobody could help me, many years later I was in a cafeteria and suddenly it was my song playing on the speakers, now with an app of my smartphone I found the song and I was a very happy man. It was the song "I´m so excited" by the Pointer Sisters.
We were born in the same year! I was a teenager in the eighties and had the time of my life, the music was a huge part of my life...I loved all the New Romantic bands from the UK...I still listen to OMD and this track is a personal favourite...best wishes from Australia....
I have had a great and deep search but the music today is just not as good, sorry...most of the chart music is about sex, and not making love, but rutting like animals, and the good stuff is hidden away.
I'm Brazilian, I'm 20 years old and my parents passed away not even a week ago... We listened to a lot of 80s music, but this was definitely the one that most influenced our moments together. This song used to give a happy and fun feeling like a happy and united family... now it gives a feeling of emptiness, melancholy and sadness... I love music from the 80s and I'll keep listening to it forever, and when I have kids I'll do it they listen...
This is one of the best songs of the 1980s that no one here in the states ever talks about. What a beautiful tune that captures what no one today could hope to capture. Again and again and forever, I'm proud to have lived through that fantastic decade. I really do long for it.
Melvin!!! I’ve got to agree with you fella. Probably the most exciting years in musical history. Never to be repeated and never to be equalled. Glad I experienced those wonderful years.
The new wave music itself exudes a feeling of longing but with a pop element that acts like an emotional ray of hope amid the melancholy undertones which resonates deeply with me.
I searched for this video for decades, even before YT. My grandmother and I used to watch it together on a black-and-white television on the island of Sardinia. Though I knew it was OMD, all I remembered was a car driving throughout the clip. I finally found it. My father is now old. My grandmother and all my immediate family is now gone. All I have is this song and the few others we used to share together. “My feelings still remain…” along with an eternal void. This song captures it well.
There is something beautifully nostalgic about this song and video. It always reminds me of being at my grandparents house when I was about 3/4 years old and they use to have a orchard that I use to play in. Happy, innocent days 😊.
I miss the 80s so bad. Life was simpler. Summer clear, blue skies lasted forever. Everyone knew each other. People were themselves. Interaction was natural. Free to wander without your movements tracked. Life before the internet and socials was truly amazing. This masterpiece takes me back to a time that puts a smile on my face but has long gone, which is bitter sweet.
I'm 20 years old and I am from Russia For me and for all of us Souvenir is a masterpiece. When I first heard Souvenir I was shocked, I couldn't believe that it was possible to write such a beautiful, touching and magnificent song. Souvenir made a huge impact on me. After that I started listening to other songs of OMD and became a big fan of them, but Souvenir always has a special place in my heart
Music is the great uniter❤️Stay safe and hope this awful war is over soon🥲Too many precious lives taken too soon.I’m a mother and the thought of sending my only child to fight for politics turns my stomach over. You have good taste btw!
It is indeed possible, some of the most beautiful musical works have been Russian :) But yes, this is perfection, it's 40 years since I first fell in love with this and it's still beautiful.
In the ’80s summers were endless. Time didn’t exist. Friends were the most important things, not iPhones. The girls were wonderful. The parties were awesome. Life had some optimistic aura. Love was felt so deep, everyone had time for me, we had everything we need to be happy, every kiss was larger than anything today, every dream was to come true, we were so imperfect but that made us just perfect, everything we felt was pure and deep, everything we were doing was innocent. And all those faces of my friend with those smiles....priceless. Clubs were awesome, music cut deeper into our hearts than anything today. We were innocent creatures who just wanted to give love, to be loved, to have good friends, and a lot of fun with them. Some of them are not with us anymore. I am sure that they waiting for me somewhere up there......and I am sure that when we meet again that we will be 17 again and that we will smile again, dance again, play guitar, that we will tell old stories again....ohh often I can't wait. In my adult life, I have responsibly done everything that was expected. I worked hard, paid my bills, find a great partner, traveled, suffered at my work, saved, sacrificed, invested, was kind, honest, responsible, and maintained health and friendships but no matter what I do and how hard I tried nothing, nothing ever come even close to the beauty of those years, to that innocence, to that intensity, to that first kiss. Nothing that I can expect in the rest of my life will ever come close to it. From now on it will be one problem after another, with deteriorating health and decay. Our Father, who art in heaven…if you think that I carried my cross long enough….take me back to that place and time of the 80s and just leave me there. That is my place for eternal life. And please keep my batteries in the Walkman always full.
There was Thatcher, the miners' strike, insurrection in the streets, the Falklands Conflict, the Cold War and the small, but often very hot "Troubles......" Wasn't all bad, I'm sure!
@@Tourist1967 Rose tinted glasses are great 😀 I remember air pollution, mass unemployment and the AIDS epidemic the most, lol. But yea, the summers were great tbf.
I FEEL THE SAME FOR THIS SONG 🎵 ... MY ADOLESCENCE, THE FIRST LOVERS, I UNDERSTAND DEAR JOHN WELL .. HOW MUCH TIME HAS PASSED ... INCREDIBLE ... GREETINGS FROM ITALY ✋🇮🇹✋
51 years old, and I haven't heard this song in absolutely years. Goosebumps immediately reminiscing about that simple life back in the best decade for quality music...ever.🎵
I have been looking fot his song for 43 years. I did not know who sang it, or even what the lyrics were, but I remembered the melody back in 1981, 1982. I probably heard it in a shop or on the raid or somthing. I like looking for rare and 'lost' 80's masterpieces and this one of them! Found it through You Tube music 'related'. An elegant, unique and even slightly accentric song...reminiscent of Cat Stevens and Orbonson with the brilliance of Sting. And naturally British.
Please please take me back. Life really was not so serious then. And this song reminds me of the beginning of the end of it all 😔😔 A little girl who wanted to be a pop star and dance till she couldnt breathe any more. And parents who were still alive. But in my heart that time in the 80s and this song will live in me for ever your claire always
Awwh. Me too. My Parents any young Sister were still here. I understand. But we can still remember our Wonderful Days with them.Music sure makes the Memories come back.
@BKM Publishing Hi there. Yeah so true if only only we could go back to them times. If you find a time machine let me know too. I will hop on with you and we can relive them Glorious Days!
Just turned 52 year old. Why has this time gone so quickly. The sound of OMD just brings back memory of some of the happiest days of my life. Since my father and friends I lost along the way who I really miss.
Same here, I'll be 53 in August (2022) and it brings back memories of my days in Heolddu Comprehensive school, Bargoed, Wales. My dad was very much alive, he died in 1991. My grandmother was still alive. Funny how music takes you back, trouble is, those memories creep out of the corner of your eye and roll down your cheek, the loss of my youth, my young care free days. Good to look back on though.
It's odd being in your 50s and your beloved is in their 60s it's nice to be in a club of people with the same memories and tastes it helps doesn't it ?:hope everyone is doing well and getting through the rubbish ..it Will pass ..all the best
You're are right, I'm 73 and still love this song and all the memories it brings back to me, although rather painful too for being so wonderful. Keep well,
@@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTM sorry to hear that. I don’t know how you grew up but 80’s was a very refreshing era for a lot us. The 60’s and 70’s were the tumultuous ones and of course everything went south in 2019. I think is what most people come here, for comfort.
I took a trip to London the year this came out, I was all alone for days traveling, went into a record store and this was playing. I immediately asked what it was and bought it as a 12 inch 45. Ive never forgotten this moment. I went home to USA and this was never on the radio or charts. I couldn't understand why. The little song had such a profound effect on my feelings, but could never share that with anyone.
This was a haunting melody when I first heard it. Even more so 36 years later. Absolutely timeless tune from a better time and place. It brings a tear to my eye.
This song..... what a gift. Saw them play 4 or 5 years ago here in ATL, sounded fantastic. All the comments here got me thinking... how idyllic our lives were in the 80s.. dominant culture was not guns, self promotion, dissing and canceling each other; bragging how great we are or how tough; posing for selfies to desperately sell ourselves over the competing images on social this or that. People weren't afraid of emotion, maybe even tenderness and wonder, ...or of getting shot if at a club at night. I am thankful for so much of that introspective and joyfully exuberant, more curious and genuine time.
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere. What would our lives have been without British bands?
Can't argue with that comment! 😜Being British I'm proud of our music especially this fantastic band & also 80s music in general! I never tire of listening to OMD & this song is one of my favourites 😍

Born in 74, grew up through the 80’s, the thing about that time is we were living through the greatest decade and we probably didn’t know it at the time, but then you come to RUclips and you can take yourself back there to a life where everything was so much better and simpler and the music was outta this world, thank you for the memories 😎
Brilliant and my intro to OMD. Bought a 10” single (Joan of Arc) in like 1981. Still mesmerizing to this day and like nothing else recorded by anyone ever.
Me siento, escucho, respiro, cierro los ojos y vuelvo a tener 12 años: Jamás pensé que una canción pudiera hacer de maquina del tiempo. Un himno que hace sacar tus sentimientos mas profundos.
Mate that's so well said and songs do take you back to a time and place better than anything including a photograph..but this song especially was so very much of its time ! When I hear it I go back to the 80's Ian Curtis had killed himself and I heard this song is about that
This song, this band are the symbol of the 80s, creative, elegant and aesthetic... An ode to good taste and life... Blessed be the 80s, I was 20 years old and I was devouring life and living at 100 km hour... That was good!
OMD is special! I still remember the first time I heard this song, all in detail. It started playing on the radio and I started recording it on my tape that I had on the cassette to record songs that I liked or that I discovered on the radio. As soon as I heard the first chords he conquered me. The most nostalgic melody I ever heard... This was music, it was the 80s, all soul❤
I was in university in Manchester 80-83. This takes me right back there. The best time of my life by a long way. Amazing times .. and this by OMD is my 80’s song. I’m going to have it going out of my funeral, whenever that is. Great friends, fun times… Manchester… forever grateful to you

Epic... if you want to understand the 80's you have to hear this music. A very simple video that you can watch three decades later and still see the magic of an era in it.
Yeah! As a 9 year old in late 70’s hearing OMD, Adam and the Ants, Blondie, Gary Numan etc and then all the early 80’s music, blew my tiny mind…and I still love them all to this day! As a teen in 80’s, music, beer and girls were my life! All my friends were massive music fans (we all shared around C90 cassettes and made sure everyone knew about every band or gig)! We went to the pub VERY weekend and spent every penny we had on travelling to gigs or just talking music and drinking!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Omd was and played in Brussels few days ago..the sound was exactly the same than in the 80's...so great..I discovered this track in the 8o when I was teenager , great music , colorful fashion's clothes and liberty for speeches , free radio and so on....80's was THE best decade of my life....souvenir souvenir.....
Listening to this stops me dead in my tracks and immediately catapults me back to my teenage youth of first loves, zero worries, even less responsibilities and a happier life. I can remember spending my first summer in the USA as a 18 year old Brit making love to the most gorgeous American girl to the entire OMD album. This song and anything else from their 1988 ‘best of omd’ album literally sends me into a temporary paralysis with happy nostalgic vibes. Thank god for music, talented artists and technology. Go forth and enjoy. Remembering CeAnn, Seattle, 1993. Best summer ever…
Where were you back then? I have friends from South America about our age that didn’t know this either. I was in Europe , 6 years old and it played on the radio all the time.
@@toonswap8511 never too late . I still hold my 45 rpm vinyl I asked my parents at the age of 6!!! I guess they were better know in Europe which makes total sense.

I'm 50 and had the pleasure in living through the eighties when great music like this was around
We were born in the same year! I was a teenager in the eighties and had the time of my life, the music was a huge part of my life...I loved all the New Romantic bands from the UK...I still listen to OMD and this track is a personal favourite...best wishes from Australia....
feel sorry for the young people now , what do they have to listen to..... just about nothing ........ we had so many great bands in 1980s
A lifetime ago, but music was music not like the rubbish now . Wish those days were back again.
But we still have this great music around nowadays.. And other great music too, you just need to look for it.
Bless you that’s an unbearable loss, hopefully this beautiful song will always trigger the memories of happier times. Warm wishes from the UK
Força meu irmão, que Deus esteja com você 🙏🏻
This is one of the best songs of the 1980s that no one here in the states ever talks about. What a beautiful tune that captures what no one today could hope to capture. Again and again and forever, I'm proud to have lived through that fantastic decade. I really do long for it.
You and me both 🎶🎶❤️❤️
Melvin!!! I’ve got to agree with you fella. Probably the most exciting years in musical history. Never to be repeated and never to be equalled.
Glad I experienced those wonderful years.
You should really listen to beach house.
Unfortunately, it didn't chart at all in the U.S.
The new wave music itself exudes a feeling of longing but with a pop element that acts like an emotional ray of hope amid the melancholy undertones which resonates deeply with me.
I searched for this video for decades, even before YT. My grandmother
and I used to watch it together on a black-and-white television on the island
of Sardinia. Though I knew it was OMD, all I remembered was a car driving
throughout the clip. I finally found it. My father is now old. My grandmother and all my immediate family
is now gone. All I have is this song and the few others we used to share
together. “My feelings still remain…” along with an eternal void. This song captures it well.
I'm with You, Ragazzi ;-) Seriously... many years of searching and waiting...
Ci sono musiche che rimangono in noi perché hanno fatto la nostra storia.... rimangono solo ricordi adesso... 80 voglia di ‘80 ancora 😢
There is something beautifully nostalgic about this song and video. It always reminds me of being at my grandparents house when I was about 3/4 years old and they use to have a orchard that I use to play in. Happy, innocent days 😊.
I send my love.x
Beautiful words.
I'm 20 years old and I am from Russia
For me and for all of us Souvenir is a masterpiece. When I first heard Souvenir I was shocked, I couldn't believe that it was possible to write such a beautiful, touching and magnificent song. Souvenir made a huge impact on me. After that I started listening to other songs of OMD and became a big fan of them, but Souvenir always has a special place in my heart
Do you have anything from 80's besides communism? And now you have something besides murdering innocent people? What have you given to the world?
Music is the great uniter❤️Stay safe and hope this awful war is over soon🥲Too many precious lives taken too soon.I’m a mother and the thought of sending my only child to fight for politics turns my stomach over. You have good taste btw!
I am 20 years old as well. I feel the same way about their song 'secret'
It is indeed possible, some of the most beautiful musical works have been Russian :) But yes, this is perfection, it's 40 years since I first fell in love with this and it's still beautiful.
and don't you like the song secret???
those songs have many 'innocence''
That was what echoed in myself all those years ago…..beautifully said my friend.

One of the greatest pieces of music i ever heard. Can't really call it a song, it's more than that. Brilliant British talent. 🇬🇧🏴

My man👊😎 Nail on the head there👍👍👍👍👍
Totally agree. Pity he's not driving a British sports car, but then it would have broken down all the time and made filming the vid a nightmare.

COM TODA CERTEZA
The most beautiful thing about this song is reading everyone's life story and how much it means to them.
Amen to that.
A hundred years from now the 80s will still stand out as the best decade for so much, especially the music. So glad to have been a part of it.
Completely agree
The creativity in that decade was absolutely off the scale. Never to be repeated.
Me too
Yep! We had it good!
The 80's were legendary, i would never have wanted to be in my mid teens at any other time, i am 56 now and the memories are so good...
The 80s was for those who missed the 60s
Me too. Im 55 now and i love OMD 👍👍👍🇵🇭
AGREED XXXX
Lynn we all wish we could live them times again sweetheart!!!! Best times ever!!¡

@BKM Publishing
Hi there. Yeah so true if only only we could go back to them times. If you find a time machine let me know too. I will hop on with you and we can relive them Glorious Days!
@BKM Publishing
Hi I'm from U.K but living in the U.A.E
You ok claire .?
Just turned 52 year old. Why has this time gone so quickly. The sound of OMD just brings back memory of some of the happiest days of my life. Since my father and friends I lost along the way who I really miss.
I'm 53 so yes I get this👌👍😌😌😌😌😌😌😌
Same here, I'll be 53 in August (2022) and it brings back memories of my days in Heolddu Comprehensive school, Bargoed, Wales. My dad was very much alive, he died in 1991. My grandmother was still alive. Funny how music takes you back, trouble is, those memories creep out of the corner of your eye and roll down your cheek, the loss of my youth, my young care free days. Good to look back on though.
I'm 50 but I still like I'm 17
It's odd being in your 50s and your beloved is in their 60s it's nice to be in a club of people with the same memories and tastes it helps doesn't it ?:hope everyone is doing well and getting through the rubbish ..it Will pass ..all the best
I'm 76 and I can assure you , the older you get the faster time goes.
I might be 70 yrs old , but i've love this from when it first came out.
You're are right, I'm 73 and still love this song and all the memories it brings back to me, although rather painful too for being so wonderful. Keep well,
I feel crying when I listen to this song. It reminds me of those glory days in the 80's , I was so happy then! Now everything is dreary and gray!
That's because unlike time that's continually moving forward, humans are moving backwards 😒
I remember the 80s and I have no idea what you're talking about. Everything bad we have now came from the 80s.
@@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTM like what
@@SpaceTimeManipulatorSTM sorry to hear that.
Back then, it was only played on college radio stations. It would be over 20 years until I saw the video.
Great memory from the 80’s 👏👏
I never heard it until 2020. I'm 42 now. Helped me a lot last year. That was a tough one... One of my favorites now
You literally took a souvenir back with you haha
You have now Phil and it had the same feeling for me back in England.
This was a haunting melody when I first heard it. Even more so 36 years later.
Absolutely timeless tune from a better time and place. It brings a tear to my eye.
Ania Dąbrowska and Crash City Saints brought me here to original - listen their covers, very well made in these days. Greetings. The 90's kid ;-).
B Sad Me, too; Like the walrus, I'm crying.
Yes, a far better time ... where has my life gone 😔
I saw them live last year was still amazing
Blazing Saddle not wrong 👍
*canceLLing 😊
Always and forever, thank you to Great Britain and the British people whose creativity, since the 1960s, has given the rest of the World hundreds of unique bands such as the Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and music of unparalleled beauty, quirkiness and atmosphere.
What would our lives have been without British bands?
Can't argue with that comment! 😜Being British I'm proud of our music especially this fantastic band & also 80s music in general! I never tire of listening to OMD & this song is one of my favourites 😍
More great bands have come out of the Liverpool area alone than the rest of the world!

J'adore revenir à la vie des années 80, c'était tellement plus facile, Parfois, c'est tout ce dont on a besoin… un souvenir💭Un seul, un seul seulement, souvenir d'une personne, d'un lieu ou d'une chose. OMD is special! I still remember the first time I heard this song, all in detail. It started playing on the radio and I started recording it on my tape that I had on the cassette to record songs that I liked or that I discovered on the radio. 🥰🥰🥰
It's depressing to think these years and these great tunes are 30 years behind us :(
Thank god for You Tube.
Now its 40 years behind ... and more beautiful than ever
Wow, first song I heard on the radio, driving from the hospital after my first child war born.
Turned the radio up full blast.
Rush of emotions!!
Смотря и слушая это божествено-далекое, только и остается мысленно возвращаться к своей молодости, счастью, беззаботности!
Omd was and played in Brussels few days ago..the sound was exactly the same than in the 80's...so great..I discovered this track in the 8o when I was teenager , great music ,
colorful fashion's clothes and liberty for speeches , free radio and so on....80's was THE best decade of my life....souvenir souvenir.....
CeAnn is that American girl?
I cannot convey in words just how special this song is to me ❤
I am 48 yet I'm hearing this for the first time right now. What a magical treat to discover such a gem 40+ years later. New old stock.
Where were you back then? I have friends from South America about our age that didn’t know this either. I was in Europe , 6 years old and it played on the radio all the time.
@@nihilistarchitect Canada. Perhaps it wasn't as big here or maybe it just skipped past my young ears.
@@toonswap8511 never too late . I still hold my 45 rpm vinyl I asked my parents at the age of 6!!! I guess they were better know in Europe which makes total sense.
Yo con mis 61,no me canso de escucharlos.Han sido mágicos para mi.
This tune is my number 1, I want played at my funeral! So emotional and just a bloody good tune!
I remember this, it was first on the juke box on a Friday night. Great days when there was a pub on every corner belting out fantastic music. Now the pubs have gone and take aways have replaced them. Glad I got to have been around then
