I’ve worked in 36 states and the one thing that used to annoy me more than anything was when Americans would tell me that “America is the greatest country in the world” only to find out that, not only do they not have a passport but, they have never even left the state they were born in. But when your news channels only cover your country and with some channels, only your State.. It’s not hard to see how this happens

When we are talking about that kind of people, we could say that the US is one of the most isolated places from the rest of the world, in a different way than brutal regimes like North Korea or Saudi Arabia, some of Trump's best friends. Many US citizens ignore almost everything outside of their land. They even ignore the metric system or the 24-hour system. Many think that Canada's capital is still Toronto or Montreal.

But this current political situation, the gun stuff, the slow corporate takeover of the country, the huge wealth inequality, well... i’m super sad about it. I’ve met really incredible Americans, but it feels like we are watching their country lose their footing and their values. It’s not really good news for Canada if the States loses their credibility internationally, which means its pretty hard to be smug about it when we’re such close neighbors that the strife in the US starts to trickle across our borders. What’s bad for the US is bad for all of North America (and South American, if Trump has his way). I hope we’re at a turning point for the better.

That stuff has been stamped down a lot and almost gone altogether now. The antifa idiots still try once in a blue moon, but the BLM terrorists have stopped burning down cities. @Big Daddy you have a naive sense of how geopolitics works. This isn’t some hippie world we live in. As soon as you move your pieces the enemy will try and move in. They don’t just sit on their hands and respect you, just because you asked them nicely. If you’re not projecting your power, you’re diminishing it.
You think our enemies would leave us alone just because we live on a continental island? This isn’t 1776. Russia has nuclear subs hiding right off our coasts. And Vice versa.

      classic incel response but ok
Look, that's my face. I'm not posting it to get compliments when I'm talking about something completely different, I'm posting it because I'm planning on starting to upload videos sometime in the future talking about a variety of issues in Canada and Mexico, my home country, as well as some experimental short art videos, and videos regarding animal nutrition. I plan on incorporating a lot of the resources I have as a university student in one of the world's top research institutions in order to bring that information to other people through interesting videos, but because my content is going to be all over the place, I feel like my face/persona is an easy way to link it all together into a sort of 'brand'. That's why I chose the name HK, because I feel like what you get with me and the videos I plan on making, as well as the visual art I created throughout the years, is little snippets of the concerns of someone like me. But every time I comment about anything, no matter how serious the subject, I either get dismissive responses assuming all sorts of things about my beliefs and identity just because of one picture of me, or I get comments like that, that never address anything I say and just objectify me, deciding to comment on something that's completely irrelevant, my looks. So many men are like "it's just a compliment," well you know, I think it's quite obvious from the cultural dialogues going on right now that women are tired of just being addressed in relation to our appearance rather than talked to as REAL PEOPLE. That's what it comes down to. So no, it's not nice to do that when plenty of people online or otherwise will tell you women do not like it. If you know it's not accepted and you still do it you're being a prick.

Canadians (of whom I'm one, though I lived in the US for a while), have a love-hate relationship with the US. We know so much more about the US than Americans know about us. And we have lots of very funny people - Samantha Bee but also Lorne Michaels and Martin Short and Norm MacDonald and Jim Carrey and Mike Myers and Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara and Seth Rogen and Dan Ackroyd and David Steinberg and on and on - who are funny often because they are immersed in US culture and politics, but from a distance.

They say the best way to get a tv deal in canada is to go to the US and do ANYTHING to get some credibility and canadian executives will eat it up. And keep in mind there's only very specific things we learn about america, and from what I've found, its not really 'america', its just the view they are putting out.

As an American who lives just across Lake St. Claire from Canada and has visited our neighbors to the North on many occasions over the decades I can say that the respect I have always had for Canada is very high. On many occasions I've considered even moving there. Or moving to France, but that's a completely different story, and my French would need to be about 1000x better than it presently is. :)
What's happened in this country recently is obscene, and it's not really maintainable. Trump for instance keeps talking about how great the economy is. No, it's not. Indeed it's great for those at the very top, but it isn't great for the other 99.5% of the population. Our infrastructure is a disaster. We're stuck in endless wars that gut our budget. Our schools are not only total wrecks but very dangerous. It goes on and on and it's a real shame.
