    1st part was comms check, she presses the button to communicate the engine's visual status. 2nd part she was testing the line to make sure nothing is crimpped, tied or sharp to prevent accidents. During the flight the pilots were setting their proper channels between Watchtower and cargo com for jump spotter or jump masters. Jump Master/ Trainer is last to jump. When they do they report the status of jumpers from above while ground spotters confirm said status. When I was in the Army in 2010, the protocol for collision during jumps was push and break away when possible. If too close to ground pretty much pray chutes detangle or doesn't collapse. On landing you keep somewhat stiff until touchdown, bend your knees and roll to the ground.

      @MisterNi 3 года назад

      @Luke - Can't comment on the ground control and piloting stuff but as someone who has his wings I can confirm that is what you're taught in Airborne School about collisions and also how you're taught how to land as an Airborne trooper. Now, if you make it to a specialized outfit like say the 75th Rangers or Special Forces then you're given more liberty on how you land and you'll likely be fast roping or HALO jumping (military free fall out of a plane) but you're given more liberty on how you want to land, because in a special unit, especially SF, you have to make it look cool/easy, etc. With the stipulation that if you're injured because you didn't follow procedure and injure yourself then you're getting in trouble when you get back home. lol

    When she is crouching in the doorway and sweeping she is making sure there is nothing sharp or in the way that could hang up, cut the lines or endanger jumpers. Entanglements do happen but its really rare but the staggering is how they normally prevent that but it's happened to me and was absolutely horrid and I almost kicked it that day.

    I prefer to be the first one out the door. You have less you need to remember and worry about. If you are first you don’t have to worry about the hook line hand off, the shuffle step, and the step to the door. You also worry less about tangling into other paratroopers in the way down. That is the new parachute, the T-11. They are that way because they are static line. The yellow hook line pulls the chute open in as you fall out of the plane. My class was the first (full) class to use the T-11. So, we ended up using both the T-10 Delta and the T-11 during training. When you see them restuffing the chats back into the back, the best way to do that is to twirl it like a towel into a rat tail. That will minimize that poofiness you see, making it easier to stuff back into the pack.

    My understanding is that paratroopers use conventional round shoots instead of the parasail skydiving ones to help maintain spacing and to keep the troopers from spreading out all over the place.

  • @ThePaintmarine
    @ThePaintmarine 3 года назад +4

    These are the new T11 Parachutes I believe that is now the Army's new standard static line chute. I only jumped them when going through the course and then our units jumped MC6&7 which look like the old round ones but have toggles so you can steer them some what better but not to the degree you see with the "skydiving" freefall type chutes... we had some at basic airborne school that went through another's canopy vent hole and they had to ride it out. Lower jumper always has the right of way and if you don't slip away and drift over another you will loose all your loft and basically drop. If you land on another's canopy you need to try and run off or pull yourself off and then deploy your reserve or if too close ground you might have to prepare to PLF (parachute landing fall).

    They are not in jump school. They are doing a regular training jump. What they are doing is pulling in the cover that opens the chute. The reason why you thought she was just setting in the door. The Jump Master is checking for anything in the way and that nothing to get the static line cut or caught. The one standing and not jumping till they all are out is the Jump Master. She is making sure that nobody is hurt or caught as they exit. I served in 3 Branches of the US Military. If you have any questions, you can get ahold of me. I would be happy to answer the questions that I can.

    They do get tangled with the each other. They also land on each other’s canopies which then collapse and send the soldiers hurtling to earth. I’ve seen it happen multiple times as a medic at Fort Benning supporting airborne school. We called a medevac multiple times in those years. Many many broken bones. I don’t think anybody died during that time but I wouldn’t be surprised.

  • @EricPalmerBlog
    @EricPalmerBlog 3 года назад +1

    Awesome. First time seeing the new chute. Women USAF C-17 crews have been around a long time. This also shows the incredible responsibility of the C-17 loadmaster (enlisted) who makes sure everything that goes on in the cargo hold is by the book. A minor missed detail and there is the possibility everyone and the aircraft are gone.
    Even more detailed here as they have to co-ordinate with the senior Army paratrooper on board.
    Cool to see all the Army paratroopers. Can't use them all the time but when practical, a bad day for the enemy when suddenly, an important part of real estate is taken from them.

    I'm pretty sure one girl at the head of the line that wasn't jumping has the job to check the outside of the door so she is strapped up in jump gear in case she falls out, but wont in normal circumstances.

  • @samturner5336
    @samturner5336 3 года назад

    So the type of jumping they were doing is called static jumping where the yellow chords automatically deploy their parachute when it is pulled tight, this is helpful for keeping our distance as everyone opens their chutes at the same height

  • @tedsemonis7905
    @tedsemonis7905 3 года назад

    The room was there assembly area. People checking the jumpers were jumpmasters, they pack the chutes and are responsible for them. Girl on ground with head set maybe an engineer watching engine start, fire safety. In side jump master , one with extra gear that went last as safety officer. There were 2 with skydiver shoots again as safety officers. The two at the door were load masters, run the plane. Static lines are use that's what they pulled in with covers on them. plane is moving so it's like you in back of truck trying to hold on to sail at 250 mph. Large chutes are needed for them and all there gear ( what did a full pack weigh for you ) There is a video How Much Weight Do Soldiers Have To Carry?!

  • @dennisnaffah8733

    So the T11 is the common parachute for static line chute and a majority of airborne ops. When you exit, the line pulls the chute out.

  • @spacejaga
    @spacejaga 2 года назад

    You really hate thinking don't you?
    The one that stands in the door with all gear and some extra is obviously the instructor who is there for unforseen circumstances.
    They drop in two groups cause those are virtually uncontrollable parachutes and if they all dropped in one sequence gap when they landed between first and last person on the ground would be kilometers long (that plane probably isn't going slower than 200 km/h and for everyone to jump safely it would take a few minutes....) which means some might end up in the woods hanging from the trees.... training jumps usually are done over airfield and since they can't control their descent (another reason they don't get entangled) wind could take first/last jumping person into the woods if calculated incorrectly so they are making sure not to push it to the limits to guarantee all of them land within airfield territory.

  • @spacejaga
    @spacejaga 2 года назад

    Big shoots are big to make descent slower. Also they are almost square (round in Russia) cause they are uncontrollable, cause they are used by unexperienced troops and you don't want those controlling their own trajectory (entanglement probability). Imagine if you are in a car going like 10km/h and throwing something like water filled balloons every second at same angle and same force. You can then go back and find that water stains from where balloons hit are all roughly same distance apart. Cause any single balloon can't change their trajectory on their own.....

I've seen the biggest and toughest collapse into the fetal position at first contact and the most frail and quiet become heroes in an instant. Doing drills over and over again without stress is easy. Doing those same things freezing cold, hungry, wounded, combat load, under fire, etc and so on are completely different. Lowering standards for female soldiers to pass doesn't help them, it hurts everyone. I questioned my ability to perform numerous times. Since women can now be jump qualified, fly apaches, does it mean they have to sign up for selective service?
