So sweet! I made rose water just a few weeks ago using the roses in my yard but I had to watch the video to find out how you did it. I poured near-boiling water over my petals and let them sit for an hour before straining. Cute video, and a super sweet thing to do for your wife.
The 100% rose water in the store is /real/ rose water. This is rose infusion...just rose tea. Still great stuff! but like you said you'll lose some of the volatile oils that get destroyed in the boiling process. A better method would be to steep them in Boiled (not boiling) water in a container with a tight fitting lid for 20 mins (i use mason jars for my herbal infusions) but if you want to make true rose water, you'll have to use a distillation method, which is still very simple, but has a couple extra thing you'll need light a large bowl of ice. Still a great tutorial otherwise! also it's a good idea to wash the petals beforehand if they came from a florist so that there's no sprays or other junk on them.
But if you use distillation method it is the same. His way the boiled/ evaporated water stays in the tea but when distilling it is separated. His way is maybe less concentrated but I think I'd probably prefer it.
gold aria His way is NOT distilled. Boiling degenerates the roses and most of their attributes escaped in the steam. That includes most of the vitamins and essential oils. Please research the difference between distillation and boiling ANYTHING.

@@unicornawesome1739 i think the best way to go about cold brewing rose petals is to boil water to sterilize it then let the petals sit in it. Hi, I’m 70 years oLd and I really liked this video! Maybe I’ll make some of both kinds just to see which I like best and. Which one ide like to make for gifts. I have rose bushes in my front yard and they’re in bloom now, good for me, and you too. Thanks for your time and the video

You can make own perfume spray. I use it in summers. In spray bottle I put distilled water and different essential oils: rose, jasmine, peppermint, lemon...
I use the roses from my tree in my backyard... rinse, boil on medium or almost medium for 30 mins, turn it off let it sit for 30 more minutes then put it to use 😊
Just to clarify this is a rose tea. Not traditional rose water. Rose water is from a distillation process. While this rose tea still is good and can be used many ways it can stain bc of the color. Traditional rose water is clear in color. But still a sweet gesture!
I make rose jelly every summer - but it is even better if you process your raspberries and rose hips and mix the juices together. Talk about a fine summer jelly!

Wow!! This is awesome. You can also use rose water in many baking recipes. I love to use rose water in my pavlova. So delish. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Now I can make my own. Instead of buying it
Another use for roses: We're trying to root some, they're growing new leaves from the old nodes and I got the flowers to dry and use how I want to, we just cut the flowers off and put them in fresh water :))
my water smelled like old roses, didn't turn out as I'd hoped. Is this still good to use like on your face for the hidrating purposes or just throw it away?
I mix rose water with star anise tonic and use it in spray bottle on face, neck and chest before i put cream on. Gives fresh look. Also you can try rice water
I watch most of your gardening videos and was so excited when I saw this. THE BEST rose water is a distilled concentration of the, oils and vitamins. The roses are steam distilled, and the condensate is collected. This is how you find it in stores. It will be clear and keep for several months. Boiled roses are not true rose water, it will stain and it will keep about a week. The "stuff in the store" is stronger, more concentrated and keeps much longer than this. You can also cold infuse roses. A small amounr of rose distillate can be added to regular bottled water and used. In this way, one batch of rose water can last 4 to 6 months after making. Because roses usually do not have a long season.
Thank you for the tutorial. This seems more like rose tea. Can you do a double boiler method? It may protect the volatile oils better and properties from slow low heat like when you make herb infused oils for salves. I keep seeing a video where ice is used and it looks so strange lol. 🤦🏾♀️ Grapefruit seed extract is my favorite preservative. You are incredibly thoughtful and I appreciate your video. Regardless, rose tea still gets the job done with freshening up and toning and cleansing with fragrance!
I’ve watched 5 different rose water videos and so far yours is the best!!! I like the idea of putting a weighted bowl on top of the flowers to help submerge the petals. Also, the thing about the steam was very informing. Too bad it doesn’t last longer….do you have any advice on the preservation? Would I just use a bit of rose oil..? You can’t use Roses from the store that are full of chemicals. True rose water is indeed a byproduct of distilled roses. You get oil and water. The water is full of true rose essential which is the actual rose water with real benefits and no chemicals. You’re still so sweet to make this for your wife.
