Somehow, this show always falls into the same formula (but in the best way): Tom: tries his best, but ultimately falls short of his aspirations Eddie: doesn't really try, but still has a lot of fun along the way :) Elliot: blows the competition out of the water by going not the extra mile, but the extra 10 miles, and treats the competition as if his life depended on it to the point of actually making something relatively impressive, yet still achieves about the same quality as the other 2 I love this show. Much love to the 3 of you

Sorry for the major necro, but part of me wonders if that was intentional on Dan's part, since a big part of him calling out Eddie was the cereal-based recipe he was using (along with obviously the lack of heat). While Rice Krispie Treats generally require heat to melt the marshmallows and bind them to the cereal, I could totally understand if Dan saw that part of Tom's cake as similar enough to Eddie's that there might be a fuss (even if a feigned/exaggerated one). I do agree though, as someone who's watched entirely too many cake competitions on Food Network, the standard is definitely to have counted everything above the base (in this case, being the custom base of the stool with the cat butt underneath).

Eddie is a bit of a stranger case but that’s mostly because he always goes for the sort of out of box methods. It doesn’t necessarily mean he isn’t trying. Hell he spent two hours on the trickshot episode trying to hit something into a hole, he’s definitely putting effort in.

What you want for a particularly tall cake is EITHER something extremely light and fluffy (sponges are good for this) OR something extremely dense and heavy (old fruit cake recipes are a wonder in this respect). If you are stacking large cakes atop of each other, use a lighter and fluffier option - they're pretty good at handling the weight of being stacked atop eachother without significantly crushing the one at the bottom. If you're feeling fancy (and engineerical) you can make chocolate tubes about the diameter of a loo roll, of the same thickness as your cake layers, which you can then sink into the lowest one(s) and introduce a good deal of additional structural support. If, instead, you wish to make something akin to a brick wall (which would, admittedly, be hilarious) then I suggest you look at fruit cakes. They have the shelf life of an adult human person and are a cake which handles compression moderately well on account of having the approximate density of a neutron star (add candied peel to yours I beg of you). If you really want to fuck with people, make square hard tack and stack it in layers with chocolate spread.

Eddie always has the best time making these videos; Tom has huge ambitions that he immediately regrets, and spends most of the time pulling his hair out and occasionally making nice stuff, Elliot flip-flops between well-founded confidence leaning towards boredom, and crippling anxiety. Eddie just throws shit at the wall, makes a vlog with his son, and just keeps smiling all the way through
I quite liked Eddie's cake. he had fun with it, the bit with Rick was wholesome as hell, and he had a fun design idea that i think captures his 'good ol dad-ish charm'. Real shame they disqualified him.

I just want to state, i love the tryhards videos, but the fact that there is always some kind of minor joke that isnt really meant to be a huge thing, ALWAYS GETS ME. the close up on Matt trying go for a drink of water and Tom Screaming into his red bull or whatever can he is drinking, just kills me.

Eddie always has the best time making these videos; Tom has huge ambitions that he immediately regrets, and spends most of the time pulling his hair out and occasionally making nice stuff, Elliot flip-flops between well-founded confidence leaning towards boredom, and crippling anxiety. Eddie just throws shit at the wall, makes a vlog with his son, and just keeps smiling all the way through

I adore any moment when Tom and Daniel share a screen. The orange chocolate and garlic brownies is still amazing content.

I quite liked Eddie's cake. he had fun with it, the bit with Rick was wholesome as hell, and he had a fun design idea that i think captures his
'good ol dad-ish charm'. Real shame they disqualified him.
also he made it. When they started it was made a cake not bake so it should count ffs
@@JurnyJudasz I'd argue that if you count Eddie's creation as a cake, you then have to count Tom's rice Krispy cat topper (which was excluded from his height) which still makes Tom the winner. As the cat and Eddie's cake were made in pretty much the same way, just swapping chocolate for marshmallows.
