Unfortunately, the Coast Guard does not always get the credit they deserve.
Thank you for putting a spotlight on their difficult training and professionalism.
My cousin is a West Point grad and originally a Blackhawk pilot. As he neared the end of his time actually flying he decided to transfer to the USCG to continue flying. He’s been over there now for about three years.
As a retired Navy Rescue Swimmer I can tell you the Coasties get much more press than we ever did.
@@firemedic6509 thank you for your service!
easily one of the most slept on branches. the entire crew.
I’ve had the absolute honor of working with some of these guys out of Port Angeles. These men and women of the USCG exudes Professionalism. In my own career, I know that I’ll never find a finer group of people like these young Americans. Thank you so much for bringing these people to light.
American Rescue Helicopter pilots are the best in the world. Great level of communication between cockpit and cabin. So blessed, that I had the opportunities to get some ride alongs with these guys.
As former Air Force rescue gunner this video really made me miss doing open ocean rescues. I had the opportunity to hoist individuals out of the water, hoisting individuals of a massive ships, landing on single spot navy ships, hoists to and from subs and a whole lot of other training/real world missions I am eternally grateful for! Also I’ve spent hundreds of hours in the poopy suits you referred to. They’re miserable to wear, but you’re right, if you’re going in the drunk you’ll be happy you had it on. Cheers 👣 🚁 🇺🇸
On point: exemplary respected comment>\
God bless! Thank you for your service! ❤

Jolly Green HH-3E FE here. Patrick AFB 89-91. We were just about to transition to 60s when I got out. "That Others May Live"
@@gregory5915 nice! I’m at Patrick now, been there for 13 years. On the HH60.
Great video. Eternally grateful for the United States Coast Guard. They've dedicated their lives to saving others. That's the purest definition of selflessness I can think of.
“Greater love hath no man”
Such a crazy job. Takes a special kind of bravery to take on this job. Respect!
The steadiness of the helicopters is very incredible and very impressive. Those pilots are amazing.
Pretty incredible how fine their motor skills are. The skill to hover an aircraft with basically no visual cues really is impressive. Shows how hard these guys drill to maintain proficiency.
There is some automation now, but yeah
Great video. I’m a former DUSTOFF pilot now flying EMS. Sending to my buddy Fingers who ejected over the water in an A-4 after an onboard fire.
I'm deeply appreciative of the Coast Guard and what they do. Volunteering to be dropped into the ocean in terrible circumstances and conditions is wild to me. Talk about real selflessness.
Rescue Swimmers are great folks ! My brother-in-law was one many years ago. Me...I was just a Pararescueman. LoL !
trained with you guys when I did the special tactics orientation course. Badass group. Thank you for your service 🇺🇸
Don't sell yourself short! That's a solid job, and any job in the military is of importance! I salute you! :D
Ya I remember when I was just a pj. Lol.
Anyone who says “just a pj” or anything like that is one of two things. They’re either clueless or someone who truly understands them and just happens to also be a wise ass. 😂
@@rkm79 Well I spent 17 years as a pj but im also a highly qualified smart ass.
I live and sail in southeast Alaska and have witnessed firsthand the skills of the USCG in the very cold waters here. Our local sailing club sponsors races in remote parts of the Alaska panhandle and I teach members some boating safety classes, including the 'rules' of racing so boats can safely navigate in close proximity.
These rescue swimmers are highly trained individuals who literally put their lives on the line to save others. The first rule on my boat is 'don't fall overboard' and the second rule is 'don't fall overboard'. I have special equipment onboard to hoist a crew member out of the water and I always carry a satellite communicator with an SOS button, just in case.
There's a Coast Guard series on RUclips called 'Coast Guard Alaska' that is quite good. They embedded camera crew with the guys/gals on the choppers and film actual rescues in some of the very worst conditions, including winds up to 80 knots in the middle of winter. It only takes one misstep for someone to find themselves in a life or death situation here. Hope you get the chance to watch a few of the videos and I appreciate your channel!
I'm often asked which part of my naval service I enjoyed the most; even though I loved every second of my time in the Navy, I have to give it to the USCG for keeping me so busy I failed to notice 20 years flying by. Huzzah for rotary wing. Funnily enough, I crossed more oceans and got more overseas deployments with the CG than with the Navy. Yeah... USCG, they're all kinda nuts.
Sir, Jersey Devil Crewchief here. Having shared an airport with a dolphin base for a long time, it's awesome to see those guys and what they do to keep everyone safe. SEMPER PARATUS!
9:10-9:30 god look at that communication between the crew. if only my warzone squad could have that kind of communication we’d be winning every match.
I cackled 😂
Amazing, huge shoutout to all the men and women serving in the US coastguard! Thank you for your service!
My dad did something similar....USAF fighter pilot, volunteered for 'Nam, and part of survival school was a water rescue, at Hurlburt Field. He was deployed out of a speedboat on a parachute lofted several hundred feet- and then disconnected. What he enjoyed most: "Survival school in Florida- in July, got me ready for the humidity in Vietnam...which is oppressive". Two tours w/ the 1st. SOS, flying close air support, rescues (Sandy 1), and secret ops....NOT in Vietnam. Still alive, well, and ticking at 93....and everyone that he ever knew, is gone.
Man, Hasard, as an Air Force vet (01-10) it really makes me proud to see guys like you helping to inspire young people today to serve in our armed forces if that is their calling.
I myself am considering joining the Air Force in no small part because of him and some others, alongside the research I've done so far.
@@justalpha9138 same here. I hope to join as a rotorwing mechanic, gain some experience, and then submit a packet for mos 153d in the army National Guard. I want to be flying helicopters but I don’t have a college degree, so I’m hoping to go for the ANG’s warrant officer program
@@d_kortman I'm considering joining the Air Force reserve as either an Aircraft Maintenance Officer, or as a pilot. I'm currently looking at some college programs nearby my area that offer pilot programs or aircraft maintenance programs, and I might partake in them to see if this path would be for me.
@@justalpha9138 yeah worse case, I’m just going to go to an ROTC college so I can go through OCS to be an officer to fly. I’m dead set on flying helicopters in the military, I’ve never been so sure of what I wanted to do before.
@@d_kortman Be very careful though. Flying helos for the military, especially the Army is EXTREMELY dangerous, and can be a one way ticket to PTSD in the right circumstances. I would know because that's exactly what happened to my dad.
Great video! I have the upmost respect for these Coast Guard rescue swimmers. My heart was racing during this video ! It brought back a memory of me being caught in a RIP current and tried surviving in it for over 5 minutes. What an exhausting feat I must say for a very good swimmer, fighting the swells and the current plus an increase in heart rate, consuming oxygen crazy FAST ! What kept me alive until help arrived was staying calm and coaching myself to breathe and relax throughout my ordeal . After swallowing gallons of ocean water and at the point of exhaustion, I was rescued by 4 professional lifeguards that commended me for my stamina, actions and calmness in a very bad RIP current. God Bless you all that keep us safe and the training and personal strength to preserver to do what you do. Thank you to our U.S. Coast Guard
Thank you for doing this...
Awesome to see there service members get the credit that they do. I served at USCG Air Sta Atlantic City from 2000-2006. One of the best jobs I ever had.
Cheers...
JB Hall
God bless & protect our USCG! They do an AMAZING job. Thanks for this video! ❤
I just recently road a ferry past this station and was thinking about the kinds of operations they do. Great video!
I loved watching these guys practice touch'n'go stuff at Moffett Field. That orange paint against a royal blue sky makes them look like toy helicopters. They were based at SFO. Interestingly there was a USAF Rescue squadron based at Moffett flying Blackhawks.
Wow, new respect for those rescue swimmers! I had no idea the attrition rate was that high.
"Next week on Hasard Lee, I’ll be jumping from 100,000ft from a balloon wearing a pressure suit. After that, we’ll go for a ride in the SR-72 and see what Mach 4+ looks like from 90,000ft."
Unbelievable skills and courage to accomplish rescues, kudos to all.
great vid. much respect to the skill and dedication of the Coast Guard
Rescue Swimmers motto gives me chills!!!
welcome to my beautiful state!
My brother joined the coast guard last year being a fighter jet pilot has been my dream job since I was 4 I can’t wait to make my dreams come true someday
Honestly this is the most badass thing I've seen in a long time
I live in a small fishing village in SW Washington called Tokeland, whenever I hear the sound of a CG Chopper from Astoria I know these heroes are either training or God forbid they are looking for someone in peril in Willapa Bay or out in the Pacific Ocean. Over the years during winter storms, winds and heavy rain make it so you cannot even see the chopper because of bad visibility knowing they are risking their lives So Others May Live. Thank God for the USCG.
Epic comment. ❤
I grew up in Port Angeles. My grandfather was Chief stationed at Air Station PA on a Cutter based there. He would take me to the Chief's Club on occasion. I ended up joining the Navy, retiring as a Chief, just like my grandfather. BTW - The Navy has Rescue Swimmers that go through equally as tough training. In fact the first USCG Rescue Swimmers went to the Navy school in Pensacola. The USCG has since stood up their ow training pipeline.
Great video! Just want to mention for anyone to the North of Hasard the equivalent to a rescue swimmer would be a SAR Tech in the Canadian Airforce. I have had the pleasure to meet and even work with some of them and they are truly rugged amazing people. Not sure how the training compares exactly but I do know it's considered very challenging and top notch to pass their course. Again great video! Love seeing the whole procedure!
This is How Maverick and Goose Were Recovered,Amazing Video man, Keep up the good work👍👍
RIP Goose
crew: Easy Forward right
pilot: 𝔼𝔸𝕊𝕐
I really enjoyed watching this… the communication with the pilot and hoist operator was awesome. ❤ thank you for keeping our waters safe
I want to fly helicopters for the Air Force.
Second, the Coast Guard.
My brother graduated from West Point and is now a trained UH-60 pilot.
I will follow in his foot steps.
The USCG MH-65 Dolphin [Originally French 'Dauphine'] is what has to be the aesthetically most pleasing helicopter design of all time! . . . ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Best recruiting video.
Thank you. They are Elite for sure
How come all Coast Guard helicopter pilots sound the exact same on the radio? 😂Seriously, every video I’ve ever watched of these guys, they all sound exactly the same.
Super cool video Hasard. Thanks. 🇺🇸
One of the best I’ve seen this year, well done.
Awesome, Hasard!
Angels with rotor blades
Awesome video. Very inspiring.
USCG are the silent heros.
So that others may LIVE ! 💯🙌🏻🇺🇸💕🫵🏻ALL !
100% The best! Thank you!
Always found it interesting how some countries use the basket system, while others use a sling. (and what pros & cons each system brings)
It depends on what the situation is. They may use a basket or a sling or a quick strop and even a litter if the survivor is injured.
Great job sir.
Mate this probably your best vid yet this needs more attention.
Awesome video. Thank you for making one about USCG aviation.
Excellent demonstration!
Thank you, cheers!
That fighter pilot costed more than the entire rescue crew.
(Estimated cost for a fighter pilot is between $5 million dollars - $10 million dollars).
These people are awesome! :D
Real Heroes...
Very proud
great video thanks
so sick !!!
"you the only one out here?"
"Yeah"
Camera man be like "DUDE WTF"
Former NAVY Swimmer, HS3 SAR, God Bless.
The call and response for hoist is very interesting
You gotta go out; you don't gotta come back.
Looking to enlist, this video was very well done. Thanks for sharing!! 😊
Hoo Rah USCG!
Badass dudes
Nice
and this was a clear quiet day. Imagine having to station keep that chopper in 50kt wind gusts
Yeah the Ol' Poopy Suit would come in clutch in a situation like this.
These guys are straight up badasses!
This is in Sequim? We'll be visiting on July 4th of next year. So glad we stopped at Coast Guard training areas along the coast in the past.
this is highly unreallistic, you should train in the Berings sea
You guys weren’t afraid of sharks?😭
From the rescue pilots perspective to find someone treading in this ...HUGE body of water all dressed in orange and yellow in call conditions like seen here is difficult enough.
Just imagine doing this at nicht with 15 to 20 foot waves and spray and Wind.
Yo Hasard,
Shoulda flown bit more North East - we woulda prepped for ya some pancakes with syrup out here! 😂
That's right! happen to me in Malaysia after a dive boat left in the area ( I had the ER-Transponder) A fishing boat spotted (From my High-powered under=water "torch" light! We drifted
SE! underwater 4 MPH current. We stopped to do a Deco=stop 60 ft for 14 minutes. Ascended the air was "pea-soup" Lucky to be alive"
Had no clue that it had that high attrition rate. That is about as high as Navy Seals - though the seal training is a couple of years.
These guys don't need floatation devices the can just use their massive balls
Wouldn't brass have negative buoyancy?
Wow... the Coast Guard.. they'll come get you when no one else can.. And if they can't come get you, you'd better owe God a few favors, cuz it's time to call them in.
If the Coast Guard can't get you, the Air Force will. That's not hyperbole, it's happened many times. On the rare occasions that the Coast Guard is stood down, USAF CSAR crews will usually take the call.
Is Hasard Lee Canadian ?
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Isn't there a green diy that the ejection seat has like top gun?
Why did the rescue swimmer hold on to the basket when it was being raised out of the water?
would imagine to keep it from swinging too much.
Ive got to ask..is that your real name..either way its cool
Did you go private?
Why does the rescue swimmer hold onto the basket until its 1 to 5 ft out of the water. I've noticed this in a couple different videos now
Keeps it stabilized and prevents the basket from swinging.
When the litter is being lifted, why does the diver hang on to the basket for a few feet and then drop?
In order to keep it from swinging after being lifted out of the water.
HH-3E Jolly Green "That Others May Live" Tells ya how old I am. FE, Astronaut Rescue Patrick AFB, back in the day.
What is protecting them from sharks???
distance and not lingering around too long
Any shark around?
good question. Didn't think about that until now...
@@HasardLee a question I always wondered if someone ejects above sea. oh well I always do that in Falcon BMS :p
having swum extensensively with sharks I can tell you, in almost all cases, the shark would just flee the second he identifies you as human. sharks are almost always uninterested in people, thankfully. if a shark does get too close for comfort, making direct eyecontact should be enough to avoid a bite
There are few sharks in the Washington waters although there are some, they are few and far between.
Not really most of the sharks in the Pacific Northwest live in deep water and are sedentary like the blunt nose sixgill or are two small to bother with you like the salmon shark and dogfish occasionally if the water is warm enough great whites and makos will hang around but that’s very rare
Hey. Your little jet might be pretty cool but when it comes to saving your buddys butt. You’re no help. Do a little high speed cheerleading but that’s all. Thank a helo pilot next time you seem em.
:) thanks
Obviously they’re different but why do some fly the Blackhawk and some the dolphin?
What a nice little helicopter ? Just wondering HOW MANY AMERICANS LOST THEIR JOBS to the French ?
I was NOT AWARE that there were no more helicopters MADE IN AMERICA ? ?
None because they are assembled in Grand Prairie texas and All the avionics for the D variant are manufactured by Honeywell also Airbus has a plant in Alabama dipshit maybe do some googling before posting
Hello Hasard, enjoy your videos very much. As someone that has flown the T-38, I even FAIP after UPT, what are your thoughts on the T-38's replacement, the T-7?
it's highly needed. The T-38 can't prepare students well for 5 gen fighters
ive been through water survival training school and its easier than it seems
AW 139 and AW169 are better tho
Wait... what happened to the rescue diver? Just leave him there? I mean, sort of joking, but ... why not show it.
None braver.
Too bad the Coast Guard seems to always be forgotten when it comes to funding and are forced to make do with these outdated 65's.
It would be a lot cooler if this was a J Hawk instead. Looks like the new aircraft is tight. No room in that small cabin. Pretty sure Sikorsky aircraft will out perform that bird any day
