    Glad to hear you guys talking about more than just the gun. Everybody loves “big gun go brrrrrrt”, but I feel like a lot of folks forget that the A-10 also has five hardpoints on each wing that can carry all manner of bad news for enemy assets, and that those are often a more effective choice than just spitting 30mm.

    • @Ganiscol
      @Ganiscol 2 года назад +10

      Most people are also not aware that the gun is basically just good to mission kill a modern MBT, i.e. immobilize it. The rounds wont penetrate any armor aside from possibly top armor, but they obviously dont dive down on targets like that. You can destroy tracks and parts of the engine reliably with it, but not the crew - and its easier to replace a MBT than a good crew. So, you use the Maverick instead.
      And before somebody says "but the video shows a swiss cheesed tank!", thats not a Main Battle Tank, thats an M113 APC made of aluminum. 😉

      If they're better options than this main gun the 30mm. Whats the point of the aircraft. Seriously the f-15ex can carry as much as you need and there's this new thing called wingman drones that could carry munitions for you plus the A10 can't really use modern missiles unless you really gut-out the plane to start installing something decent and modern something that's going to make it as expensive as a f-35

    The A-10 has come a long way. In 1999 I began working aircraft maintenance on A-10s. At that time, the aircraft had an inertial navigation system. Upgrade to GPS had only begun around that time. Although the aircraft was fitted with rocket pods for many years, the concept of laser guided rockets is relatively new. Glad to see the aircraft becoming more effective for troops on the ground. It's an extension of their will to succeed on the battlefield. Was an honor to provide mission capable aircraft to support their mission. Big thanks to forward located troops on the ground (past and present) doing the hard work to their job done

    A10 gets so much hate because its slow and flys quite low but in reality in a modern theater its just employed in a way to avoid that weakness . Its not a door breacher , its the one who keeps the building secure after its been knocked down .
    If this was deployed to ukraine it would have the same tactics as the current SU25's , but the A10 brings better defensive systems are significantly more smart standoff weapons that can be employed in the same way apache can with a 2nd party designation .

      The only issue i see for having a10's in Ukraine would be IFF syncing since ukraine have so many soviet era SAM systems they are just not compatible , thats if they even work tho since the DPR has shot down 2 russian aircraft in the last month .

It can carry GPS bombs , GPS CBU's which it could loft instead of flying overhead .
      Its more survivable than an SU25 only because of the current tactics in place i would never of thought an A10 would work against an integrated SAM network or lots of manpads but in reality it seems this low level tactic works , if they had weapons that where actually accurate it would be far more useful than what they have now

      @@howardbartlett3026 "F-16s failed at providing CAS" which is why most CAS in the Middle East was done by it and the B-1 Lancer? Kinda strange statement to make. They did the lion's share of CAS. In Afghanistan, the A-10 was underperforming to the point that around 2008 was when the F-15E replaced it in Afghanistan. The F-15E (the Strike Eagle; the Eagle made to move mud and drop bombs) is, without question, the best CAS platform we have. The SDB and SDB II are god-tier ordinance.
      You don't know what you're talking about. And before you go, "Well what's your credibility coming from?" My credibility comes from many different sources, chief of which was my father who ran CAS missions as a Navy pilot in a Super Hornet with a total of over 20 years of aviation experience, as well as all the actual fighter pilots I've met through him and what I've learned from all of them. The A-10 is fine at COIN and anything with no integrated air defenses, but the second you get introduced to a Shillka or a Tunguska, the A-10 gets ruined. The fact you didn't even know the F-15E existed as a strike variant of the F-15 tells me you lack a lot of knowledge.

    A-10 Warthog brrrrrrrrrrrt i say that everytime i see them in movies. Like yesterday in army of the dead they have A-10 to drop some nice bombs on the zombies. Many movies have A-10 that fights against the bad and evil.

    The A10 is amazing plane. It can take all that damage and still fly. Wow. The flying fortress was bit like that. Also that firepower. I saw a video about one of these providing support for troops in contact and I was so impressed. There was various other comments made by troops saying the mighty A10 saved them too. It's an old plane but it's still got a few tricks left😉

      I always called it rifle in DcS but now I know! It’s kind of funny. That call out, and others like rifle or pickle, means a lot more in the a10 than anything else because the MWS will pickup maverick and rocket launches from miles away so you have to call it out or your wingman will mistake the warning as a manpad.

    My buddy (Afghan Vet) just the day before yesterday , told me a story about how he called in an airstrike and an A-10 dropped willie pete and strafed a Taliban column, and Yada Yada Yada, the aforementioned Taliban column was never heard from nor seen again, except in the form of small, charred chunks of unidentifiable meat💥💥💥
