If you love the A-10 (like I do) you can purchase all the equipment the pilot is using at 1:38. The simulator he's using is the professional version of a civilian available VR capable simulator called Digital Combat Simulator, or DCS. The stick and throttles he's using are the Thrustmaster Warthog, also available on the civilian market. It's a blast, highly recommended!
Damn right! I think I've been on the Hoggit server for 2000+ hours :)
4YA;;
I noticed that as well. It's pretty funny that the Air Force uses relatively inexpensive consumer-grade equipment to train pilots on these multi-million-dollar aircraft. I would've thought for sure that they would've had a full cockpit sim with motion and everything, but nope. It's a setup that anyone can have at home.
I guess it's a testament to how accurate DCS is at translating the capabilities of the aircraft, as well as how accurate Thrustmaster got their Warthog HOTAS.
@@kasper_429 No doubt a testament to DCS and TM, but it's also a sign of the technological times. As someone who flew the real "ballsims" as well as DCS, I can tell you that although the ballsims bring a huge level of immersion, that immersion is destroyed by the graphics, flight physics, and cheapness of the interface. When I fly DCS in VR (pimax) I sometimes experience real vertigo because it's so realistic that my inner ear expects the Gforces and doesn't receive them. The result is that when my system of balance tries to counteract the Gforces that aren't there.. it 'overcorrects'. I don't get sick though, and it's well worth it.
Little known fact; Eagle Dynamics developed the original A-10 software for the USAF. They were able to strip some of the black boxes out of it, and sell it on the open market. As good as DCS is, I would imagine that USAF pilots use it to train on the NAV and other cockpit display type subsystems, without having to burn fuel or take up full ballsim time for just clicking around and learning menus.
As a former USAF SSgt, I thoroughly enjoy these videos that promote the capabilities of Air Force equipment. Go Air Force!
Not American and still enjoy these videos. The US military is really the most capable one in the world.
Thanks for ya service 👍🇺🇸
Thank you for your service Greg!

Hey Sarge did anyone let ya know the AF sold the Marine 8 lemons U guys owned??? Circa 1990...
Did someone say BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT
I feel the upgrade one would sound more like pew pew pew when fired
My favourite sound … sort of…
@@markkern1746It depends on the persons hearing. I hear "Urn" instead of.. "Brt"
Always sounded like a Heavy table being dragged across an old wooden floor to me
A 10 сила , к сржалению здоровья нехватат уже из за возроста , вы ребята молодцы!
As a Marine infantry platoon commander in Vietnam 1968-69, there were no A-10's. We received close air support from F-4 and A-6 planes. I did not have a forward air controller to call in close air support, I could only contact the pilot on an FM frequency and do my best to describe where our position was relative to the enemy. For a pilot in a jet that is incredibly difficult when looking down at a jungle with no real terrain features.
I'd pop like red smoke to identify my position but then the enemy would pop red smoke as well. it took time to describe which red smoke was ours and which was the enemy's..
Sometimes the company would have a Forward Air Controller or FAC. He was a pilot that could talk pilot sh*t with the plot to get ordinance on target. But pilots were not attached down to the platoon level and so me trying to call in a close air support was difficult in the terrain we were in.
We had good close close air support in Vietnam, but only God knows why. All I had was an out of date French map and a compass. Knowing where we were was a challenge for me and an even bigger challenge for the pilot using a different map and avionic compass in his plane.
I would have given my right arm for GPS and precision guided bombs and artillery back then.
Do you remember the OV 10 Bronco? They saved our butts more than a few times. Semper Fi. Welcome home.
We thank you not only for your service, but for sharing your experience. Stories like these are invaluable.
The A1s and the gunships were the ones that my uncle preached about helping in those danger close situations the best, they could actually loiter around low and put out hot spots the hit and get high flying boys would leave behind or came in too fast to get good hits on. Artillery support was good also in a pinch but they took more friendly fire from that than any other form of close support. Granted the A1s and gunships took heavy fire, after all their motto was "so that others may live".
Welcome home, sir.
My Marine older brother came back from Nam ('68 - '69) a big fan of B-52s from his experiences sometimes seeing them, but more often hearing and feeling their work, most likely in three ship Arc Light raids. By coincidence, later in the '70s I ended up in the USAF on those same Big Belly B-52Ds. I sent him a B-52 shirt and he wore it until it was ragged, then asked for another.
Awesome power and agility makes us tactically dominant. This aircraft and pilots are above and beyond expectations. MY HEROES!
THIS PLANE IS LEGENDARY AND HAS SAVED MANY LIVES IN COMBAT. It is designed specifically as a troop support on the battle field. The ONLY PLANE that is designed to aid troops in jungle warfare, and for the destruction of armored personnel/tanks. The engines and robust design, aid in the success for ground troop support in battle. What a well designed plane! Thanks for the video 📸.
Blue on blue go brrrrrrrrr
It has never really been up against any serious air defences though.
My Pride and Joy in our Air Force, You make my Heart sing! 😍

@@meDarkmask I totally agree, May GOD keep our young men and women in uniform safe and sound! 🙏 💝
As always, thoroughly enjoy these videos.
@1:29 Nice to see DCS A10C in action with our very own MilesD's Pointctrl in action!
4:05 lmao, nice editing there
All awesome aircraft. Each one has a place in my heart.
That BRRT is simultaneously the greatest and scariest sound you could ever hear, depending on which side of the gun you are. Of course I'm not talking about who the gun is pointing at directly. Those guys never hear a thing.
I was an AT in the Navy during the 80s, and the capabilities of modern RADAR and targeting pods like the TGP were just not there yet. They still used technology from the 60s in many places. There was even one piece of gear that dated back to the 50s which was still actively used in the fleet at the time. I know TDR was working on some cool things at the time. We had one piece of gear that was destined for the H-60s which were just being introduced to the fleet at the time. It was a graphical display of the battle field based on telemetry data. It showed things like sonobouy locations, last contact, and even location of downed airmen in the case of rescue. It was very advanced for the time. Now I fly DCS and between the A-10C II and the F-18 the capabilities are amazing. I don't fly the Eagle as much - even though I do have the DLC.
With a Combat Controller directing the fire, very accurate!
That SIM is DCS: a game I have and you can too if you want it. Be advised, that it is literally a full-on simulation. Just doing a proper start-up will take you many attempts to perfect. The work is worth it though. The first time you land at night, during a blizzard, with no vis and instruments only....wow.
They train with dcs? Nice!
Means I’m basically the same as they are lol
Never served in the military myself, but absolutely respect each and every one one of you that have served and are currently serving. My utmost thanks to all of you
The A-10 is a bad dude and BRRRT should strike fear in any bad guys ears.....
The sound of the gun run from the A-10 is the best ring tone ever. Prove me wrong.
It’s my ringtone for strangers. It’s a bit shocking when it plays on car stereo.
@@peachgmailin commiinnggg I am going to get the ring tone
It is interesting to note that the special advisor when designing the A-10 was "Hans Rudel", a former Ju87 (Stuka) Nori in the Nazi Luftwaffe LOL.
He made a lot of mistakes, actually flew the aircraft and finally gave the OK for the current model.
I was also a former Japanese Air Self-Defence Force officer and I think the A-10 is a great aircraft.
A 10 is a TANK that flys... thanks guys and gals

I remember the A10 being based here in the U.K. at RAF Bentwaters. Often see them buzzing around the skys over Suffolk.
Retirement for BUFF is still a long way off! Long live BUFF and the HOG!!👍🤟
An acquaintance I used to see at the local sporting Clay's range flew the A10in the Maryland ANG. He flew A1Ds in Vietnam then transitioned to AC-130s then the A10 in the early 80s. He had such passion for that airplane! He sad if they had them in Vietnam the war would have been over in a year. He loved his big Sandy but he sure loved the extra speed of the A10. He once brought a stack of photos of battle damage on his A1. I was astounded at how many holes you can make in one and keep flying
How will the plane end the war on the ground? If you are disgusting, then you should not be anywhere and old and 10 is just a piece of metal.
You might ask the Iraqi Army what the A10 can do to ground forces.
I wish the Warthogs would fly forever!
A-10’s are bad ass!
Hearing and seeing that coming is a infantryman dream
The "Buff" always struck me as having an air of, "I don't wanna do this, but you earned it.
The A10 is my top favorite aircraft, right up there with the F18
At the 5:12 mark, notice the fluid in the compass going nuts from the GAU vibration?
God bless AMERICA.
Wow.. . .so really great amazing.
Bombs? Who needs bombs when you got BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!
those things can turn on a dime-awesome airplane
Calling a 30 millimeter High Explosive Incendiary and Armor Piercing Incendiary round a 'bullet' seems like a gross understatement
Is the nose gun aimable, or does the plane itself need to be exactly aimed for firing?
America got the best toys wanna play?!
You know you're in deep sh!t when the "brrrrrt" is being released. That's a great sound, horrible fate though.
DCS on Rift-S. I didn't know I had a military grade trainer at home? :) Good job ED!
Pilots must be very agile to fly low over enemy lines and drop fire and bombs at the lower altitude. Although the A10 is an old aircraft, it still performs its duties perfectly.
der Weltaggressor Nr.1 feiert sich...
Warthog A10 is awesome. Awesome
But , a conversation with my daughter is pretty cool too
The a10 bullets look like candy corn lmao
C une Bonne idée de déposer du popcorn sur le terrain l’ami d’on dort dîne 😊

Love that B-52 - a 50-year airplane for sure.
More than 50, way more
More like 70-plus year, lol. Grandpa Buff is getting up there in age.
Amazing engineering. I expect to see their descent into obsolescence during my lifetime.
War is an embarrassment to humanity. We're almost done spending resources on it.
The greatest plane ever made.
Our military makes me love this country. Our politicians have the opposite effect.
Noticed satelite and ground based like laser targeting on the BUS just now

Cool. Training, technology and support crews. You realize not one thing you described was a technique, right?
Angels on our shoulders. USMC SGT Wall.
love you army ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Me: Is that DCS??
Me: Scrolls through comments, looking for references to DCS.
Me: Gives up, scrolls back up to video.

Why does it look like many A-10s never get washed or painted. They have that overworked look like they were pulled from the boneyard.
I was USAF on heavies, and that's not unusual. They go to depot occasionally for programmed maintenance and sometimes come back with a fresh paint job, but by the time it's their turn to go again they're looking a little ragged, especially if they're wearing flat paint with a texture that's very hard to clean. The more raggedy looking, due-for-depot aircraft were just as well maintained underneath as the freshly painted ones, however.
The B-52 is served as a shot and has Kahlua, Grand Marnier and Baileys (KGB) Go Air Force!
This marvel of engineering is a not a plane it's a gun
Cool!
Hollywood is a reality but Afghanistan is not !
This clip sounded like propaganda package
what
Ppp
Ur smoking some strong shit
The B-52 is only going to serve until the 2050's......first flight 1952 in service 1955? As I've said before and I'll say it again, 'What the hell did Boeing build????' Upgradable perfection.
They kept overbuilding a bomber that could do the whole toss-a -bomb- thing that was prevalent at the time of building (because the b-47's kept loosing their wings in practice). And now that we don't do that as a practice, well they're over built and last forever. =p Wish I got to pilot a B 52, I only got to pilot a cesna 72 =p
I like A 10 attacker while maneuvering🛩️🛩️🛩️
The P-51 of the modern era, less a few years...
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT !!!
So the US Airforce are flying DCS aswell for training? That is pretty cool.
They use a pro version that has a few more black boxes, but it's essentially the same.
I trained to be a crew chief on a A-10 before I was assigned an F-15E. We called them a gun with an airplane built around it.
at 3:00 that's not quite a preflight... that looks more like a phase inspection. A preflight is: Juice it up, look for leaks and address any 'red slashes' the last driver noted, inspect what the book sez and then get her in the air.
I Love the farting sound of the Gatling gun….❤😂
increible
A-10 national guardsmen destroyed USMC mechanized platoon north of Al Nassiriya, because they didn’t know what a Marine Amtrak looked liked, and thought they must be enemy. Sadly, the FAC cleared them hot because he thought it was not possible Marines could have reached so far north of the river so fast. Most of the casualties incurred in that battle were friendly fire, A-10.

BRRRRRRRRRRTTT BOOM
The B52 will be retired very soon: in 2050 ?
Soon? Compared to it's life so far is 27 more 52 years.Leave it to the US and that's long enough for a couple more conflicts.
It’s not just the machines , china . It’s the people and what they know .

Hallo madam, how is the necessary lift helicopter feet for landing ???????
Ninety Eight years is a pretty damn good run for the '52.

Does the Thia airforce have the A10. Maybe one or two but i doubt it. More like the money but in a personnal accouut.
1:50 Citizen Navihawk - amaizing watch
Thought the was the imperial theme song from Star Wars at the beginning. Would seem fitting
7:21 „come and take it“ or originally „ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ“
Just put Union Jack flags on the targets. The pilots would never miss.
اقض ما انت قاض انما تقضي هذه الحياة الدنيا
The A-10 had all these upgrades and new weapons just to be retired? FUBAR!
Conclusion? The Airforce has airplanes. Thank you very much.
When I was a A10 pilot I would see UFos around our bases
These old aircraft have served the US military well. I hope the F-16 can do the same missions just as well or better. Isn't that new Textron jet being eyed for CAS missions ?
To any A10 pilots. How effective would an A10 be in a dogfight if it HAD to get into one? Always wondered that.
Not an A-10 Pilot, but I've heard it's actually been able to hold its own in dogfights before.
Creo que se equivocan al retirarlo , se puede modernizar!?
Imagino la alegría de los soldados en dificultades y ven venir un a10 se abre el cielo!?
My aerospace engineering prof used to demean fighter jets as nothing more than 'flying guns'...no sir, they're a thing of beauty still. Loved them as a kid and still do in my 50s now. Though the A-10 could use a serious upgrade with more modern/advanced avionics. The F35 can't really replace it, but I think the future is probably going to be all drones...the human pilot is really the bottleneck now, sadly.
As a kid I loved these things; as an adult not so much. I still do but I can’t watch a video like this without also visualizing the humans at the other end. War is a terrible thing and “pin-point accuracy” is a myth.
OOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo
However advanced the aircraft technology now a days would be, the rear view mirror is an irreplaceable piece of equipment
Don't forget Son of Blackbird SR-72

I wonder how the Hawg would perform up against modern day Russian & Chinese tanks & AA weapons?
Quite well TYVM
It will perform economically.
Rocket are less expensive then guided missile.
Conan rounds beats them both.
Strong enough rounds that can make dent on armor will eventually break it.
A few rounds from A-10 canon will detonate explosive armor, breach metal & kevlar and went inside.
I’m pretty proficient with A10 and f18 on DCS. I’m basically a fighter pilot and could do it irl lol
