    Just some tips:
    As mentioned the big elephant in the room for simulators is lack of force feedback. To mitigate this, as much as one can reasonably expect, DCS attempts to enhance feedback by routing it to the other senses. I suggest using some earbuds or some headphones as you can hear the airflow change as your AOA increases, switches click super loud, etc. As you've probably noticed buffeting shakes the screen since you can't feel it. I also suggest magnifying head movements in the face tracking software if that's an option. With my set up head movements are exaggerated with a bit of smoothing so I can keep my eyes on the monitor.
    Hope some of that helps with the transition.

      Worked on the VR T-38C trainers that the USAF uses for training and got to try the OFT. The difference in control forces and throttle range of motion were stark compared to desktop setups. Was vastly easier to fly with precision in the OFT and the VR setups with their stronger sticks than on my home setup.

      @@JSmith73 Shimshakers are propbably best thing that home-simmer can get to have awareness of G-state.
      I am actually waiting that someone would implement a small electricity feed to be given to feel it differently from the wrist or something.
      Some people even have a same thing as driving simulators has, the seat belts will have motors to tighten you to seat based G forces.
      Nothing serious is required, but having a belt that would gently tighten based G would likely create excellent awareness for G forces.
      But I think I would prefer that electroid thing, as it would give a gentle voltage to your arm/abdomen (that is used in various healtcare massage devices etc) that would really let you feel the "discomfort" when pulling high G and understand it far better.

    If you're new to DCS the one channel I always recommend is a guy called Bogey Dope. He's a retired crew chief for the F-16. His videos are just so good. Knowing the real jet, like you, gives you such a leg up on the rest of us mere mortals. Simple things like what the aircraft does during the BIT. All the control surfaces move, valves open and close, etc. When DCS revamped the BIT he reviewed it step by step. "that's too long...the flaps move more...the nozzle iris's closed more slowly..." it's fascinating. But when he gives a tutorial, he shows every binding you must have and the easiest way in DCS to mimick the real thing. Well worth a sub. Good luck in your DCS career. It's not the real thing, just the closest you can get.

    Maybe you should play with the axis tuning to tune the curves of axis as you like. There is the button "Axis Tune" for that center down of the config window and then the Curvature slide.
    Some (real?) pilots claimed that the F-16 in DCS is very wobbly in the feeling and not so responsive (especially for the pitch) ; unless you use an expensive force sensor joystick (like the RealSimulator FSSB R3L force sensing base).
    So some players crank up the middle of the axis doing like a S-shape to force the middle to be extra responsive.
    For a better simulation, you may want to look at Falcon BMS. It's better in term of simulation for the F-16, but also outside of the F-16 for example for dynamic weathers, clouds affecting lasers and IR missiles, data cartridge, ATC/pattern, solo dynamic campaign packages/missions generated, a smart scaling for far objects to proper see airplanes to compensate the tiny limiting pixels of the screen ....

    The AI in DCS tend to avoid high AoA situations unless leading a gun shot. They tend to stay around their best Ps, which makes them very predictable and prone to exploits. It doesn't help that the flight model they are using is often a LOT different then the one the human player is using, so it's fairly easy for them to never lose any energy while turning. The only thing they seem to be somewhat proficient at is jinking, and they would do this until they run out of fuel. As you yourself noticed, they will do absolutely nothing to break a status quo.

    i mainly paid attention to the face and control cams, loved seeing some of his muscle memory kick in. head tilting up while having his eyes locked on the screen, the constant throttle adjustments and stick input. very cool. i wonder if he'd like using track IR or VR sometime.

    Fantastic. It was great you had some fun in DCS. It was very interesting to watch you patiently work your way to the elbow and use roll to quickly change lift vector. Wait until you try this in VR with a decent VR headset. There are various hardware addons (Buttkicker, FlightSeat) to give some tactile feedback for buffet etc. I'm sure you'll have a very long line of online challengers - that's a very great initiative for DCS folks to flight online against a real Viper pilot. Best wishes for 2023 and success with your book. Thanks for the videos you've been making.

      I noticed that too when he was using roll to get angles. In fact, I stopped and played that part back and really paid attention because it's something I haven't been doing - I'm always trying to get angles the hard way. All part of HL just sort of hanging back, waiting for the AI pilot to make a mistake.

    • @staubsauger2305
      @staubsauger2305 Год назад +1

      @@effsixteenblock50 That's great you learned something. I always rolled to put my lift vector where I predicted the enemy would go, as well as pulling minimum G to get to the 'elbow' a position trailing the enemy fighter. This is much better than pulling hard G to get around a circle (although sometimes that's unavoidable). I enjoyed watching Hazard's technique (Confirmation Bias, I suppose :) ). Good luck with your dogfighting and excellent to hear you studied the battle thoroughly. Don't forget to use the TacView tool as well in your own fights.

      @@staubsauger2305 Thanks for the time & encouragement! I've watched several more videos and something just clicked - this particular stuff is dependent on flying in lag pursuit. The reason these moves haven't happened for me is that I've mostly been flying lead or pure pursuit. What's funny is that I should know better - I learned the concepts of when to be in which pursuit but I had been allowing myself to become a victim of "target fixation". In fact, that way I was flying before, in a RL scenario, I would be killing myself (and the plane) with constant high G maneuvering. Now to implement! Thanks again!

    • @staubsauger2305
      @staubsauger2305 Год назад +1

      @@effsixteenblock50 Yes, fly lag pursuit (energy-conserving) to get to the control zone behind the enemy jet (called 'the elbow' because if you represent jets with your hands you want to be where the elbow is behind one jet). Once you are there you are hard to shake off and can then transition to pure or lead pursuit, cashing in energy to take a shot. Enjoy the videos with this in mind. Best of luck.

    Hi Hasard. Very cool to watch while you explain what's happening. I was just wondering what kind of head tracking you are using? I use Track IR, but that requires an emitter to be mounted on your head somewhere. I've tried a couple of others but nothing that is strait up just observing your motions. I'll dog fight you if given the chance. I'm not great but I will happily eat the ground and use it as a learning tool. And thank for your service to our amazing country.

    Also, you should definetly pick up a VR headset like the Varjo Aero... game changer!!! I have a cheaper quest 2 and a mid tier rig and it's well worth it. Can't go back to headtrackers anymore..
