This is probably my favorite truck out of the bunch. The manual + supercharger makes the gearhead in me totally geeked out. If he still has it, would be cool to see it on another adventure.
Just to share just under a year here...77 Chevy 4x4...I took it everywhere I could...325,000 on it and was not rebuilt..only changed the timing chain..went with double chain and steel gears at 125,000...I was 23 years old when I bought it...I sold it at 46 years old....I'm 60 now and I miss that truck! Have a 2017 Tacoma now and having fun fixing it up too. Thanks Clay for your time and Info on these trucks.
Best part about this . . . it's your daily driver!!
There are many of us in a similar situation, using our daily drivers to also get out there and find our adventure.
Thanks for sharing
And PLEASE keep up the good work!!
I like how you guys hung that fender up from after it got destroyed by the tire chains. Nice touch of nostalgia.
That's my dream truck!! And I agree with you, over time you start to bond with your rig. Especially after it takes you through some bad stuff and still gets you home safe. I use to have 3rd gen 4Runner that was like that for me. Grate video! Can't wait to see more!
Lots of nice Aussie product on that truck to go with some nice American gear. As an Aussie I love to see that.
As always the production quality on your videos is astounding and it just keeps getting better!
Awesome, Clay. It's because of you and the XO team that me and a good buddy are now Overlanding just short trips for now but as we go on we're extending trips to be longer and longer.
Love the added gun mount.
Same, I haven't started yet but just got a 2017 TRD Off-Road that I'm biting at the bit to take off road.
Hi Clay,
Thank you for this new segment. I like that you are expanding the overland community and other great vehicles that are out there.
Stay in touch and be safe in So America. Keep in touch if you are in SLC, I would enjoy meeting for lunch,
Mike Tyler
Nicely produced video. I would watch "In the shop" on a regular basis. Little Bird, is such a cool truck. It is so cool that all of the mods are born of expeditionary needs. So many of my rock crawler jeep mods are born the same way. My compliments to the mod choices, quality of work, and your usage of it all. Well done.
You forgot to mention all the 5.56 casings laying around. LOL Once again great video and thank you for sharing.
especially the ones next to the wipers.
road hunting them dogs!
Seeing how they're all piled in the handle like that, I'd imagine a certain someone reloads or sells the brass to one that does. :p
I like the little stories he includes with the tour of his truck like when you see the sticker of the Chicken Creek Saloon he reminds you when and where they blew up his underpants. So his tour of this vehicle is accented with some historical highlights of the vehicle and experiences.
Like a mini "Jay Leno's Garage". Awesome!
Just discovered "overlanding" about a month ago. A few months earlier I traded in my BMW for a 3rd gen Tacoma. Had an old 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 that I really missed. Lots of expensive gear to be had, but looking forward to building up my Tacoma and adventures with my service dog.
Keep up the good work! The Shop series is going to be good!
Nicely built Tacoma, I am very envious of the supercharger.
Gosh if I had the money I would send my truck to you (Clay) and have your guys create an expedition rig for my F150. Awesome work!
Great Show! Can't wait for more episodes!
Love my 2017 Tacoma. Slowly adding upgrades. Moving back to Colorado. Should serve me well
Great video love this series please keep them coming.
I love how there are not only multiple firearms in the truck, but also spent casings at the bottom of the windshield.
Matt Olsson Shells in the door handle too
im so glad I stumbled on your channel!! love the film quality! keep it up
Clay you're lookin in great shape bud! Wanted to meet ya at OXpoWest but couldn't make it. All the best in the upcoming adventure safe travels man.
Nice low-profile light bar. that's cool. I try not to drive at night in Central America, but it would be nice to have the option if you need it.
I liked this a lot. keep the videos coming.
Love this new series, can't wait for the others!
Awesome! great camera work, most of these show and tells are crap.....seriously great job!
Really looking forward to this new series!
I'm kinda partial to my XTra Cab bed length. I can always scoot stuff over and lay down/snooze in the 6'+ bed. If it's extremely windy, the fiberglass topper won't flap like a tent does. I actually pitch the tent, put crap in it from the truck bed, and sleep in the truck bed.
Very nice, thank for sharing your build. What Seat covers are those?
Awesome guys! Yup like Lenos garage
this is awesome. great video!
Clay, I have enjoyed the walk around you have done for the two post I have seen. In your first video you said something about the "Long Range Fuel Tank" and on a WEB search I found a link to a company out of Australia using the statement you made. I would like to hear more about the background on where the tank came from and how you obtained it. Your walk around are great so, a thought, maybe you can do subject videos for the details of your projects and products. Thanks for your videos.
Awesome build!
I have a question? How did you mount the gun rack? When will you post more videos? Lots of brass everywhere, LOL! I love what you guys do.
The X1 taco is BAD ASS! Great work on the build Clay. Anymore live updates coming up?
Would you be able to go more in depth with some of the different systems in your rigs? I’m interested in the different gear used for your overlanding adventures.
Great video man, can you do a more detailed underhood video? I have a supercharged Tacoma as well and am having a hard time finding room for duel battery set up.
Clay is playing soldier, I get it! Got the AR-15 and a light, "at the ready"
I don't know how interested you guys would be to do this, but I would love to see you guys do a video series of building various overlanding vehicles at different pricepoints/budgets. Like a Subaru Outback for the weekend warrior or an old Chevy Van for month/yearlong backpackers/travelers, etc. etc. Or even a guide of where to start when you want to get into overlanding, from vehicle purchase to final, less essential items to get for your rig.
Another great video! I can't tell you what an inspiration you guys have been.. And how much money that inspiration has cost me. What system are you running for your dual battery set up? National Luna? I thought I recognized their hand held in a few of your videos..
Ultimately, this truck ultimately ultimated ultimately.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Subscribed.
Can you make an episode just for the supercharger? Why did you install it? Did it help in difficult situation? Do you recommend it to others? Etc...
I was wondering what happened to this truck. Good to see it's still around.
Great video Clay and team involved.
I am a Surefire guy and the R1 is a very nice tool, Might I inquire what mount you have it in, inside the vehicle?
Looks to be some Quickfists on a custom plate maybe?
Thanks,
Zack
wicked build
Cool video. Always nice to see what others are doing, especially for someone who is new and finally getting into this. What do you get for millage with the blower and re-gearing?
Dadgumittoheckman, that's a sweet ride.
Had a 40 S&W case ride around on my running board, stuck in some mud, for over a year. I tend to fish out the ones that go down in the windshield crevice though. I try to avoid shooting the 5.56 over the hood though. Hot flying brass is not good for the paint and plastic.
Great idea on show... Can't wait to see more.. Will we be seeing builds from other overlanders besides ExOverland?
What the back story on all the spent ammo casings, was it a day at the range setup on the roof notice some near the wipers
SUPER!!!Who makes that Surefire Lawman vehicle mount?
Another great video, cant wait to see more . Are you guys going to Overland Expo East 2017?
Cool series....guns!!! so awesome ;-)
San Juan mountains sticker! 👍Love ouray, did you make it through Poughkeepsie gulch?!
Sweet rig Clay! been following this build since day 1. Quick tech question, would you recommend a rear diff breather extension and if so where did you mount your breather valve?
when i looked up long range fuel tanks they only have them for diesels not gas but with that being said can you run gas in the tanks
Awesome !...it's been around
Awesome truck!
There's our truck!
I know it's an older video...but interested in which model the ARE topper is and price by chance? I do mobile detailing out of my tacoma and would be nice to conceal it all, but also take the truck on adventures too. Thanks
Did you mention what rack you are using on top of the camper she'll? Did you install that and the rails?
Glad to see X1 is still getting some love!
Who bought yalls old 100 series?
What antenna are you using? Seems pretty versatile.
Great build - what mpg are you getting?
For a single guy that doesn't carry passengers often (my daily now is a TJ with no backseat) would y'all recommend the access cab or double cab Tacoma? I like the idea of the longer bed without adding to overall length but wanted the thoughts of someone more familiar with the trucks having never owned a Toyota myself.
I'd love to know what kind of milage you get from the truck since the supercharger went on. how many miles to a tank would you average before and how many after? Great set up.
do the 100 series next!
Can you share some details on the light/pole mounted to inside of spare wheel rack; Light model, pole/bracket, and power source?
I Love this truck, have since I started following y'all a couple of years ago. I'm just curious of what Clutch are you running? My last Taco I went w/ LCE and I'm thinking of doing another LCE in my current Taco ('14 TRD), but I was just wondering what you run. please don't tell me stock lol, I have NO luck w/ the factory ones lol
Hey Clay, any chance you could provide links to the manufacturers of parts you went over in the video? I'm building my Tundra and I want to make sure I do everything right the first time (particularly with power management) and I'm pretty new to all of this...
My Tacoma is built very similar, to the are cap, supercharger, snorkel (arb for Tacoma), armor (mines all pelfreybilt) and roof rack (prinsu). one thing I like about yours is the duel swing out rear. I wish I had that instead of a single side swingout.
nice truck
Do the Land Cruiser. That SUV is legendary
How did you guys attach the patches to the headliner? If taken off will it leave marks?
Hey Clay, what model A.R.E topper is that?
After this heavy duty use of the supercharger, did the milage per gallon decreased?
What was that holding the ipad or tablet..couldn't tell how it was attached to the dash.
You talked about the long range fuel tank, who makes it?
Thanks for sharing. I have a 2006 tacoma, interested in the super or turbo charge mod. Does it help low rpm power? I stall mine going into reverse too many times to admit, would like more idle crawl power.
hey clay, what modification did you have to do to get the blue sea switch panel to fit in that cubby/fuse cover
You should have my rig down! or take a look at a sports mobile! really different and cool!
Were those fender bars ever worth it?
I love you show I'm building my Tacoma and I'm trying to get the side bar your got with the bull with the side protection with the bumper but nobody build them do you know any will..... God bless keep the good work .....dark horses do not make them anymore...
great video guys. looking forward for more video guys.
Nice Truck
what do you guys think about the 2nd gen taco with the 2.7l 5speed 4x4 for daily and some beginners overlanding ?
So many Kangaroo logos. Good job Straya
How come you guys don't Overland the Newer Toyota Tundra?? I'd really like to know?
love it
Clay! If you were to put alu-box on the cab roof rack what size would you use❓
Kyle Campbell the 42 is a great size. Two on top is what we run on the trucks now. You can go with the bigger ones but it's nice to be able to open it from a single side.
ExpeditionOverland thanks❗️
ExpeditionOverland how do you guys mount these boxes to the roof racks❓
What seat covers are you using?
what are yall overlanders using compressors for?
Is that an HD or CX series ARE cap?
What Leaf Pack are you running. I'm setting up Tacoma with ICON's too well planning g too but need a leaf pack?
Anything you'd have done differently to it? I'm building up nearly the same truck - '14 Tacoma 6spd on King 2.5s.
What ever happened to the first gen 2001 taco?? Please fill us in. Personally its my favorate one. Thanks
Danny Galvez,
We sold the 2001 Taco locally and we still see it around town from time to time. Many a good memory was created with that truck.
Hey guys come down for the Baja 1000!!
Hiram Rodriguez I'll be there! Canguro Racing #8155
How much does your rig weight?
