      Young man, this is not good advice.
      It’s very difficult for you young fitness enthusiasts to scale up for time. And that’s for your own regimens and in how you advise others.
      After 28 years of running and 10 years of “reverse lounges”, the “reverse lounges” begin to cause weakness right above the knee caps in both knees.
      I had to stop doing this workout in volume altogether. Forward lounges are great. But the knees were not meant for that reverse movement in high volume.
      Originally I thought the issue was caused by lounges, then after further investigation I found it was specifically the reverse motion.
      And after 28 years, my run is still going very strong. So is my heart 😊

      Yup, yup this! There are some trainers who would call bs on what he’s saying! I run for about 12 min, then I save the rest of my energy for weights and walking etc. But running (on my small treadmill) helps me maintain my weight, as well as helps my mental health. Especially when going through tough times. My knees are stronger too than before. I don’t get knee pain anymore (got that a lot when I was not running). But I also switch out my sneakers and I don’t run outside (not suggesting that’s bad though). I’ve been running for a few yrs now. I also work out my glutes, which to my understanding helps with knee strength. I’m sure this exercise he’s recommending is fine, but it seems it can be hard for some and yet a lazy way out from doing cardio. I would say try both, if you can’t run I say walk. Best

      Lunges are actually not a wise suggestion for him to make for everyone. Too easy to end up injured. For seniors I find doing chair squats is beneficial. Start by standing in front of a stable chair, slowly sit and just before you would touch the chair, slowly rise back up. Keeps the form good, is a functional exercise to work legs and glutes and if you're fatigued you have the chair there to catch you. This can also be done with a buddy to hold your hands and assist you up and down of your glutes aren't strong at the moment. 😊

      I just had the similar prognosis but my problem is my left hip. Went to the physio as I’d started to get out of the car like a 90 year old lower back and hips stiff no internal rotation of left femur. An MRI later and I’ve been told arthritis in my hip requires a hip replacement and I’m not a candidate for stem cell chondrocyte therapy. I’ve had to give up running and been told to hit the bike and elliptical too. 😢I’m 51! It all feels muscular though and my ITB is irritated. Perhaps the arthritis was there for a while? I was running 10k this time last year. The issue came on all of a sudden.

    Benefits of running:
    Improved cardiovascular health, builds muscle strength, increases bone density, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, reduces stress, burns calories, can improve your mood and be social, but don’t do it cause you don’t have the proper form of putting one foot in front of the other and will get hurt. Instead do step backs, I’ll call them reverse lunges so it sounds like I’m a trainer though. You can work your quads and that’s it 👍

    This is great for all the wildfire smoke days we've been having in our area, where we have been told to stay indoors. And I haven't wanted to run due to impact, but when I do, I try to do much of it on grass. I was at the zoo recently, & they had padded concrete in areas, sort of like cork, on inclines. I noticed an immediate different in my body to walk on that soft surface.

    • @yay4yoyos
      @yay4yoyos 11 месяцев назад +8

      If you're obese and have knee issues, do NOT do lunges for cardio. To get cardio benefits, you should be at a (comfortably) elevated heart rate for 30 minutes (almost) every day. If your heart is racing the whole time you're exercising, or you're killing your knees with each and every lunge, you are NOT going to get the cardio benefits you need. Look for a lower impact exercise that you can consistently do 30 minutes of each day. It could be going to the pool, using an elliptical, or even just walking.

    That's really interesting! I used to run 4 miles a day. I took me six months to work up to that. And then one evening I was coming home and I stepped in a pothole and twisted my knee. The knee heals but I can't run anymore. It starts acting up. As long as they don't run, regularly like I was, it's fine. It occurred to me that there might be a reason why they push the running thing so much. The truth is, it's really hard on your body. Everything rolls around and comes loose. Like a trailer on a hitch? Take it down the road and it's like an earthquake all the time. So this looks very interesting. I'm looking at swimming pool stuff just because it's easy on the joined but I can do this at home. Thank you!
