Facebook Messenger isn't just for texting and video; you can also record and send audio clips through the service. Sending a voice message through Facebook Messenger is a great way to get a specific message to someone when you want to make sure they'll get it, and you don't want to send it as a text message for fear that it will be misinterpreted. Sending a voice message through Facebook Messenger can be done with a few quick taps.
Now let's walk through the steps to send a Facebook Messenger voice recording in the Messenger app on iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
Step 1. Open the Facebook Messenger conversation you want to send a voice message to.
Step 2. Locate the Voice Message icon to the left of the text entry box. The Voice Message icon looks like a microphone. If you don't see a microphone icon, tap the bracket to the left of the text box to open a menu that includes the microphone icon.
Step 3. Hold your finger against the "Voice Message" icon. A small, blue window appears above the Voice Message icon. As you talk, the audio wave levels in the window will move. When you're finished with your recording, remove your finger from the Voice Message icon to automatically post your message to your Facebook Messenger conversation. Alternatively, if you make a mistake while your recording and you don't want to send it, simply drag the audio wave window up toward the "X" on the screen until it turns red, and then remove your finger to delete that voice message.
Step 4. You can listen to your voice message in the Facebook Messenger conversation you posted it to by tapping the "Play" button. At this time, there is no way to save your Facebook Messenger voice message to your device.

Hi. This is really informative.
When i stay on portrait mode i can not see the microphone. When i put it on landscape i can.
On portrait mode i can only see camera gallery and the four dots where i have acces to the microphone. But this is a long process. I would like my micophone beside the talking box and not my gallery or cam.
Is it because the screen has no space to include all of them.
So how would i take one off. And bring microfone there?

I send a Voice Recording to a friend via Messenger and then when I play it back on the friends site to hear how it sounds I sometimes get ERROR on the message bar where the time duration of the recording is.what does this mean has the recipient heard the recording or do I need to send it again?
When messenger changed a couple of months ago, the voice recording icon disappeared so I can't message a voice recording. If I click the +, I can only attach a file, post a gif, post a photo or video from my pc or attach a sticker. Does anyone know how to fix this. (The recording icon is there on my phone app after the last change. It's just missing from my pc messenger page.)

My messenger does not show the microphone icon and when I tap on the four dots menu to the left of where the icon should be, there is nothing that comes up allowing me to select or add a microphone. Any suggestions? And thanks for the vid.

Try opening the message in messenger so it's fully open not just a chat box. When I do that I get the mic icon.
this doesnt work for PC
On PC, it's a lot easier. On the FB Messenger App, click the little plus icon to the left of the chat bar. Then click "record a voice clip." It will start recording immediately, so start talking. Press stop to end the recording, and then the stop button turns into the play button, which lets you listen to the message. Click the little X to the left of the bar to delete the message and try again, or click the send icon to the right of the bar to send the message. No need to hold your finger down on anything or swipe in any direction.
I have a desktop computer only (DELL) - can I receive and send with it spoken messages with it?
I am asking because a niece said that she sent me a spoken message but somehow, I cannot see or retrieve it.

Sometimes I see errors instead of the voice message sent to me. And vice versa - when a voice message is sent from me, sometimes (not every time) an error is displayed and the voice message cannot be played. The 'error' is displayed instead of the time in the voice message box.

I am using a laptop PC. How can I make my audio message longer than 1 minute? I also tried it on my Smartphone and held down the rec record button, but again, it cut off automatically after 59 seconds.

Check the Facebook Messenger settings on your device and make sure you've given it access to use your mic. That's my best guess as to what's going on.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that, but it would make sense for them to put a cap on the message length so they can more accurately estimate how much storage they'll need to support this, and forecast the cost of that.
I doubt you can change it.
It can change but I don’t know how. A friend and I are using it and she’s able to talk longer than a min. Whereas I’m only able to talk a min. I was hoping to find a video on it.

Great question. I would just record it as a voice memo, and then send the voice memo to the person through Messenger. I hope that helps.

There is no "bracket" to the left of the text box. There's a plus icon and when I open that it still does not include a microphone or voice message option. This was not helpful.

As of this day there is no voice chat option found in the category’s shown above in the updated version anyway. Screw FB for removing it. It’s like a pay option maybe ? -edit- Updated again. This one has voice but the mic is already out. This new one must of came out tomorrow ? I Herd it messes your phone up, I have a friend who does it all the time she willnt type in anything
I use it occasionally, and I've never had any problems. My primary device is an iPhone XS Max. It could be a number of things causing the problems she's experiencing. There may be bad hardware; some setting may be messing with it; it may be compatibility issues with an older device; or it may be a bug or something else. The only issues should be with the app; this shouldn't cause long-term problems on your hardware. I hope this helps.

Try using the Messenger app. I don't think this is available on either the Facebook or Messenger websites. Hopefully that answered your question.

I'm not sure I understand what your issue is.
