I also appreciated the time the crew and soldiers took to discuss the frame of mind you have to be in when facing monotony as a fighting force, often left out. Also nice treat to see the ADF there :P Really keen to see what else this channel comes up with, especially regarding the developments in Afghanistan these days. Its tough to think this conflict has been going on for almost all my life.

Camp Alamo 2011/12. I was attached to the ANA's Signals school. Also a driver for my unit. I seen much of Kabul. I went to a British Camp for a day, it was close to the airport but I cant remember the name of it.
They weren’t exactly local military. The Afghan army and police in areas dominated by the Taliban were predominantly from the north and a different ethnic group that doesn’t even speak the same language as the people. Their awful conducting of themselves and their separation from locals is part of the reason they failed.
I kinda agree the total lack of knowledge about their culture and history would’ve shown u this was gna fail the only way this would’ve worked is grass roots real tribal congress that separated the country into sub divisions with some autonomy but in the latter being a consortium of states in a country or republic and this is due to the diff types of Muslims Sunni and Shia plus the diff dialects spoken in the various valleys corresponding to the diff areas in which they trade meaning diff ways of interpreting the Quran etc whew 😅 that was a lot have a good new year 😊

It's also important to note, that Afghanistan is not an old country at all. The land has switched hands, and borders many times over history, but it was primarily owned by Iran for the previous 250 years by the Safavid Dynasty. Since then even, the country has been taken over by rival factions many times. With the Kingdom of Afghanistan, and the Republic of Afghanistan both coming into power via coup. This country is always going to be at war from my point of view. They have known nothing else. A very strange patch of land indeed.

After so many years of fight NATO still can't move without choppers not even in kabul green zone shows forces have wasted their time in afghan. Making me to think what rest of the country would be like for NATO n American forces.
The Paras like the RMC are the type of troops you don't mess around with in the field!! However the best British asset in Afghanistan are the Gurkhas as the understand the culture. As they understand Hindi which has similarities with Urdu, I have found them the best troops to engage with the ANA. The sooner NATO pulls out the better as its been a brutual and long conflict with little achieved if honest!!
If this was in Sub-saharan Africa, NATO would have been considered a colonial power. That is why Sub-Sahara Africa rarely have NATO forces directly engaging the natives as compared to the Middle East and North Africa. Sometimes, psychological warfare is much better than combat warfare cause nobody gets physically hurt except their feelings.
