My uncle was a Pathfinder with C/1/507th PIR 82nd ABN. He Jumped into Normandy on 6/6/44 into the middle of a German troop concentration in the Carentine area. Never even got to set up the Eureka lights and only 6 of his stick survived.

@@senator1295 I hope so too. My cousin (his son) told me his dad said the Germans were so close they were shooting at them with pistols.
I watched a utube vid that interviewed a WWII Pathfinder from the 101st and he stated that first you had to volunteer and then go through another extensive mental Qual test before you were accepted and only about 20% made it through that initial phase and only about 10% finished the training.
The history of his unit says after D day they were sent back to England for "retraining" in other words a lot of replacements. They were only sent back into the ETO during the Battle of the Bulge and didn't even participate in Market Garden. Obviously they got seriously mauled by the Germans on D day.
BTW, my uncle died in 2001 from colon cancer.

Simulations are designed to break the side conducting them if they are done well and for the right reasons. Those same simulations are why everyone predicted Ukraine to fall in 48-72 hours.
