I see a lot that is controversial. All the important core features they actually promised, like asynchronous racing, aren't in.
It's just an early access game - yet they're selling DLC's, tracks and there's even a season pass...
But I guess it's fine, gamers have accepted total defeat. 🤣

I would like to add two more things:
1- I am one of the lucky people for whose the game runs smoothly since day 1, so pay for dlc wouldn't be wrong. But I know very well I am minority and dlc for early access games is not right, not even logic to expand a game before finish it.
2- Motosport games is not a little indy studio who need the support of the community, is a full grown company, so make the game functional for the majority of players before ask for more money should be a must.

I completely disagree that it’s “okay to charge for “DLC” that’s supposed to be in the game. Maybe for some other games, “yes it’s ok to charge a bit”, but sorry, not Le Mans Ultimate, they should be ashamed. The fundamental core elements of a racing game such as: cars and tracks doesn’t constitute as “DLC”. If you keep supporting this type of ludicrous behaviour from developers, when does this all end? The developers will just keep on charging and asking for money for EACH and EVERY track, car, or radar etc. As a result customers will be end up paying more money than a full fledged triple A title.
Right now as it stands, the amount of content in this release is at best: an unfinished demo. It’s ridiculous and getting way out of hand: games nowadays are so incomplete it’s not even funny: On top of that they are charging for every little addition (cars and tracks) that is fundamental to the racing game? In my opinion it is completely unacceptable.
Also it creates problems for the game as a whole, because not everyone will buy the additional content: this will create a “disconnect in the racing lobbies / community” with some users clearly having an advantage over others.
As an incentive: the early access adopters who obviously made a commitment to support the game at its earliest stages, shouldn’t have to pay additional money for content that SHOULD BE INCLUDED in a full release. But now it doesn’t seem like there is any real benefit to being an early adopter at all: it just seems more like a blatant scam.
Come on please, just take a look at the tiny amount of cars and tracks compared to other racing games? They haven’t even completed the base game yet and already they are thinking about how to milk customers for every track, car that gets a future release.
Let’s put things into perspective and use GT7 as a comparison: the amount of content in that game destroys LMU and they even included VR option for free? Plus they have given away many free monthly updates (some updates can contain up to four new cars and a track) and people are still complaining. GT7 is a title in my opinion has the right to charge for DLC because the game itself has enough content and features in its base game.
As much as I like this game, LMU may be good and has a lot of potential but it has a long way to go, I mean seriously a long way….
By the way, these guys are not working for free either and this title wouldn’t even be released or exist if their budget didn’t support it. It’s not an excuse: let’s be perfectly honest, this game is none other than a short demo 😡

When iRacers pay almost $30 for a track and car combo, paying that amount for an entire game doesn't feel as bad. Then the iRacers continue to pay monthly subscription charges, and THEN COME BACK TO BUY MORE TRACKS AND CARS when it rotates to the next week... How many people just grabbed both the new Mustang and Corvette GT3's for nearly the same cost as the entire LMU game?
All of these sim devs know the player base has no problem spending money if they make a good game, so this shouldn't surprise anyone. If you play/pay iRacing's extortion fees and then complain about this game, you're the problem.... (not you specifically Kireth, but the community as a whole). iRacers will be $500 in the hole to a game they have to keep paying to play and then have the audacity to question another game's DLCs. It's wild.
And I say all of that to say, I also don't love DLC's while still in early access. Between the DLC and alluding to a subscription plan, these guys are doing their best to tap into iRacing's model as best they can. From a business perspective, they should. People set money on fire in this hobby all the time. We'll have to see how it works out for them....

I'm not a fan of the ghosting on the starts either but I prefer that a 100% to the rolling starts on iRacing. The ACC start without the ghosting would be perfect if they added it to iRacing. Also props to LMU for giving people the stuff we need without having to install external overlays. It's the thing that frustrates me in iRacing where the hud looks very dated and everybody is using external overlays. You expect the best for what you pay to play iRacing but they could not ad something as simple as a radar...

If you go on 3rd party website and buy all setups for just one car for the all 7 tracks you already paid more than the price of the game…
By the way have you paid for all the patches and updates so far? They also will release some cars for free and people still complain…

  • @Kaylos29

While not all roses, it sounds reasonable to me. ACC was in a terrible state at release after early access. New tracks and 7 GT3, 2 of them free is not a bad deal depending on price. At only $30 dollars for base game early access proce, I can't imagine DLC and season pass will cost too much. You will spends tons more than that for any other racing game.
My issue is I'd love to suport Studio 397, but really don't trust motorsports games as Lemans Ulitmate is about all they have anymore.

I dont mind paying for DLC package content, if pricing is similar to ACC. IRacing is much more costly. Start methods, I think can be revamped to make it less hectic and with better structure, that is likely an easier fix. The radar…. I am not a fan of adding. IMHO I dont think as a “SIM” it’s a good thing, as a “Game”, sure. If you want to be as real as possible and more authentic, dont have the radar, use a spotter. It’s MEANT to feel claustrophobic and tense. It’s all about situational and spatial awareness. SO sure maybe radar at lower license levels to get people started, but in that same vein assists and radar and such don't support skill improvement, if the goal is realism. But, I love LMU and really look forward to the new content!

If this game had launched at a higher price than $30.00 I would probably be upset. If they work the season pass system correctly to make it worth my time, I feel it's alright. I have been very impressed with the game so far, and it most definitely feels more complete than say any NASCAR game in the last 10 years. The handling mistakes are more my lack of skill, rather than fundamental flaws within the game engine. Many of the proposed changes are quality of life. There have definitely been fewer game breaking bugs than with something like WRC 23. Though I have had my share of random CTDs. I love the transparency of their developers and the RUclips videos from the team explaining their roadmap. That communication alone makes me respect what 397 is doing. After the pure calamity that has been Helldivers 2 and the aftermath, I think developers are finally getting fed up with the publishers and taking back (quality) control of their content!

I really want to love this sim but at the moment, I feel quite ambivalent towards it. Maybe I just need to knuckle down and dive into it fully. As for the paid DLC, I don't think it'd be a problem, but that's gonna depend on the costings I think. £25 for what we have already is a bargain I think. ACC & iRacing have paid DLC, so why not LMU. It's far better than Rennsport anyways.

forza motorsport does not do this but it costs 5/6 times more then lmu. also lmu has best car handling and ffb at the moment. They are putting so much effort in the car physics and each car feels great and different. But all of them are engineered great. This is a great update. i have now 195 races online, started from day 1 and cant wait for the dlc. Saison pass is not season pass like other sims. Its a bundle where you get all the content which will be released without to buy each dlc separate and probably will be some better offer if you take all of them. But again: I hope lmu hype will come back because i‘m sure if the game was released as it is now, they would have 10x more player. And on top of that lmu community is amazing. Ps: Why is not ok to ask for more money but is ok to promote academy which is selling setups for money? Lets be real - there is nothing wrong with the last update :)

Mixed feelings about DLC this early, to be honest. If this title is to survive, then MG does need to keep generating revenue, so I'm kind of OK with that. The problem with these early access releases is that it all becomes a bit blurry in terms of what exact level of content one actually signed up to buy at the time of purchase. That's the difficult bit, but overall this title is going in the right direction and I'm prepared to turn a blind eye to the DLC aspect and just get it.
