  • Le Mans Ultimate went into Early Access this week and ‪@EmreeRacing‬ had some time to let first impressions sink in. How does LMU compare to the biggest sim racing service of today and what are particular differences in the handling and physics?

The GTP are the easiest cars in iRacing to drive. So I was gutted when I jumped into a hypercar and found I was really not ready for it. I'd recommend anyone starts off in the GTEs. The driving experience for the GTEs is far more involving than most cars in most sims so I'd say forget how good you think you are and start with the slowest cars. You can be a hero in iRacing drifting all the way round a corner in a GTP, but then be completely humbled on first try of a GTE in LMU. The physics are just that much more complex that I think many might need to take a minute to relearn to drive.
As an example, I do 1:47s in the P2 at Sebring in iRacing. And around 1:57 in LMU. There's an actual skill involved that I am yet to develop.

I love this being a WEC game. The 3 categories of WEC car are so different and all feel and look great and the circuits are some of the best in the world. I really hope this gets the love it deserves from Motorsport Games as with the right treatment and with the promised 2024 cars too it really could be fantastic.

First off, I’m an huge iRacing fan and it’s my sim of choice but the engaging feel I get whilst driving this game is on another level to the equivalent cars in iRacing. Maybe it’s because I’ve done so many laps in iRacing that new is novel, but I find I’m having to concentrate so much more to eek out those extra tenths in LMU. There’s more variance to the lap due to the slip angles and throttle control is on another planet to other sims. I feel now like I’m driving the car, rather than driving the game. MSG are sitting on a goose that can, hopefully, lay the golden egg.

@@EdisonArias only the LMH (toyota, peugeot and ferrari), other are RWD. I'd say for anyone wanting to learn the hypercar start with the Porsche, get used to how the e-motor affect the braking. Then step up to the LMH ones, work a bit on the setup, you want a bit more rear stiffness than usual to compensate for the lack or turn-in and dial that out at high speed with the aero. And always remember that you first 2-3 laps will be like driving on ice (apart at Le Mans where tyre blanket are used).

  • @kevinhadj82

Default setup huh ? You can dial out that sliding pretty easily, unlike AMS2, it is not part of the engine. Just a look at the default setup you can see that the camber alone is helping that slide in the defaults. I purchased the game because I really enjoy the LMPs and Hyper cars (and yes, to support the developers). There are some show stopping bugs (sometimes when I pause the game and go into the settings to tweak things, upon leaving the settings and unpausing, the car either plants partially into the asphalt (think Philadelphia experiment) or is suddenly flung skyward and tumbles back to the ground with a damaged engine as my wheel spins violently, potentially causing injury (they really need to fix these sort of things). But these are not frequent occurrences thankfully. When everything is functioning as it should, its a solid game with huge potential! The dev team really needs to keep full throttle on as many fixes as often as possible to bring the game to a more stable and enjoyable state. IMO, "Early Access" should not be a 'blank check' to be able to ship a game in any sorry state. I think in this case, it could have benefited from a bit more time in the oven so to speak.. but I guess Motorsport Games needs money and fast..

    @nismo97 5 месяцев назад +8

While in iRacing it's said you need to underdrive the car I find that in rF2, and LMU for that matter, you need to overdrive it.
LMU feels a bit different from rF2 but I feel like these differences go against other parts of the physics behavior inherited from rF2. The tyres in LMU are more punishing over the limit, when you lock up under braking or give it a bit too much throttle, but you still need to rotate the car quite a lot and abuse the tyres' wide slip range to go fast.
In rF2 the tyres are less punishing over the limit so you can make use of that extra slip range without the car snapping on you without warning, so I'd say that rF2 still has a more intuitive and consistent driving experience.
I feel like LMU's more punishing tyres over the limit make sense, but not when you still need to do the rF2 drift into and through a turn. If they were to tighten up the rest of the slip feel, not just the over the limit bit, then the physics behavior would feel more consistent and coherent.

It was okay, I guess I'm just so used to iracing, it is going to take a massively better sim to break me away. And thats going to be hard to do for anyone. Well made game though.

Whatever!!!!! I don't do either one of these games - because. LMU might be a good game, but only has 7 tracks to race on and I have the same tracks in RFactor 2 - so why do I need this LMU game. I will check back sometime in the future to see if they add any more content . But I doubt if they ever will. This game is like ACC - too specific of a racing series - not for me.
IRacing, I will never pay for a monthly subscription based game. I do only one time buys of racing games on STEAM and usually try to buy them on sale. Plus, I do not have the dedicated time to do IRacing to even get my moneys worth of playing it.
AMS 2, RFactor 2, and Assetto Corsa are my 3 racing games. Allot of variety and content to these games. I do have ACC since they have good DLC content.

Just to quote Alberto Naska: "I've been racing in real life for 7 years, over 120 races, so many different cars. I think I can do a comparison between virtual and real.... iRacing is the worst simulator of all. Especially the tyremodel has nothing to do with real life, while the best in my honest opinion is rFactor 2."
He was saying that in his video testing a Cadillac prototype in a multi-million dollar simulator and you can see how he's struggling with that car, so they are probably a handful.

      Huh... What do you mean.
      It's RF1 by ISI into S397 RF2 into S397 LMU.
RF1 into AMS1 where it stopped and they started using the pcars2 engine for AMS2.
Raceroom is based on the RF1 physics engine and Rennsport is based on the same engine.
So to all people complaining, the only not Rfactor based simulators are AC into ACC and Iracing based on the papyrus physics code of Grand Prix legends.

FFB is still the same as rf2. In other words, terrible. So many go on about physics and ffb in rf2 being world leading, but both are still a mess of compromises created for older wheel hardware. What is interesting is the same bugs as rf2 are in LMU. The game crashes in the same places. The game freezes in the same places. The game drops ffb in the same places. If you think is all coming from an iRacing fanboi, you are wrong. I see all sim titles as lacking in large areas.

There is no excuse for a company to release unfinished software (configuration, ...). Early releases should be to optimize the model. Imagine they serve you half-cooked food in a restaurant as early access.
It is all about money. Take RF2, polish it, and release it. Pay some RUclipsrs to create hype about the game. Then, there is the magic of raising funds from investors to complete the game. Once the funds are raised, the mission is accomplished. This is behind wondering why a new product and not RF2.

Race the latest content like say GTP, LMP2 & GT3 at Daytona, and the game looks as modern as any other - but once you step into the cars and tracks that were built a decade ago or more things start to look a bit ancient.
I get that iRacing can't scan every track again as it would take a decade, but they should put more effort into cosmetic updates for the tracks they do have. Bathurst for example, even without a full rescan it needs an refresh to update stuff like some of the horrible textures and clunky tree models.

@@AndreMiguelLopes69I love how iRacing players are always defensive and don’t want anybody to criticize the game xD Let’s be honest it looks like shit. What saves iRacing is relatively good car models, but the tracks, trees and all are very old assets and the lighting is very very basic. It’s time for them to upgrade their engine and assets. IRacing is my favorite sim and i play it regularly, but it doesn’t mean it cannot be criticized.
