  • Ever since Tyla won her Grammy for her breakout hit, "Water" I've been wanting to talk about her meteoric rise in the industry and the conversations surrounding it such as her being an Industry plant and the Rihanna comparisons
    Is Tyla the next Rihanna? Does she have what it takes to be the next R&B Pop princess.

    Having the success of older pop stars is simply not possible in this day and age. The monoculture is dead, and it will never be back.

      The delusion. The Super Bowl was more watched than the Landing on the Moon. The monoculture is back. It just doesn’t support Black Ppl.

    I loooove TYLA and she truly is an ARTIST. After this album I’m officially a Tiger!!! JUMP IS THAT GIRL!!!!! First of all I have an actual REAL South African best friend so for me to see a mainstream South African pop girl makes me happy for her country. Everytime I hear Tyla talk she sounds just like my bestie and I love it. I love how this album is rooted in her culture and her album as of now is the only recent one I play every day literally sometimes multiple times. She has such a unique personality and style and I love it!!!! The next Rihanna idk about that but not because she won’t be huge but I just don’t see the similarity BUT I see why someone would think they have a similar origin.

    Finally! Someone who was able to articulate my thoughts of Tyla and her comparison to Rih. I grew up during the start/rise of Rih’s career and like you said, Tyla’s career has similarities to Rih’s path, but it’s not a direct copy and paste. She has her own swag. I also never thought of the Aaliyah comparison, but I can also kind of see that since Aaliyah was in a lane of her own and brought something fresh and cool to the music scene. Great video!!

    Omg Dom you’re absolutely stunning luv! and I do believe Tyla will carve out her own name and lane in the industry she already has a distinct sound and look as well as marketability so it’ll all come down to how versatile she is with her sound and how far she’s willing to push herself to achieve the success that she desires (which is in this case Rih Rih’s level)

  • @NestleCrunchy
    @NestleCrunchy 4 месяца назад +15

    Omg so pretty!
    I listened to the album and it’s pleasant but not very diverse. Not bad nor great. I agree with your sentiments - the marketing and formula was on. The fact that the Grammy she won was the first one ever given makes me think her team is tough too.
    I haven’t gotten in to Tems but put Amaarae up in there too cuz her album was real good

    My only critique on the album are the songs being too short but I do like it, for me, the industry plant thing ain’t real and not interesting I feel what’s really interesting is the conversation surrounding her racial identity and how she’s able to dabble being black-adjacent to be successful, in addition to her rise to fame being another example of how much mixed race, racially ambiguous lighter skinned artists are starting to become to the global fave to black music, as quiet as it is as kept, it started with drake and the domino effect continued afterwards (cardi b, saweetie, ice spice, The Weeknd, central cee, Steve Lacey, Bruno mars, Doja cat, Latto, H.E.R.) I feel that’s discussion that needs to be more talked about

    We have to give it up to those 'farmers' for this plant!
    for coercing her mother to tell seven yr old Tyla to sing at weddings,
    for channeling Tyla to start a tik-tok channel with her sister and make videos that are about an ordinary girl's life,
    for making her early makeup artist clumsy enough to cut a permanent eyebrow notch in order for it to become a signature look,
    for threatening all the would be boyfriends to keep Tyla's flower in pristine order,
    for tuning Kool-drink's vibration so that he can produce Tyla's first amapiano hit song,
    for pulling a wool over the Academy judges to ignore BurnaBoy, Davido and the other nominees from being awarded,,
    for persuading Tyla's parents to allow her a gap from her engineering studies,
    for sending Olivier Rousting to so many beaches for him to get a 'sand' inspiration that will give Tyla her first Met Gala outfit...

    Stop with the colorism, there is nothing stopping ayra starr except the people not buying her music or showing up for her to the same capacity as Tyla, ya'll stay watering down someone who isn't black just to boost someone who is darker skinned up as if thats the only essence of their identity....They are both talented, but GP says who is famous, not the damn industry, its the labels putting the money behind the artists and why would they put money behind people who don't do as many numbers as the next artist on their label? SMH, everything is not about your damn race.
    plus there are tons of dark skinned artists that exist, this argument is old and disingenuous. And there will never be another Rihanna. Tyla is Tyla and from a whole different country, she just did her homework and studied Rihanna and a lot of what she does is reminiscent of Rihanna, but Tyla is all her own. I love your channel, but damn, these microaggressions do not play a part in these people's careers. Ya'll gotta buy the music.

    I don’t think she will, people don’t realize that Black Americans (FBA) are the driving force behind the music scene in genres like R&B, HIPHOP etc etc her coming out saying she’s not black shes “Colored” is definitely gonna make people look at her differently because regardless of what you “are” your going to be labeled as black in AMERICA & your going to be branded as black in America to black American people not colored. Rihana was always seen as black, and Rihanna doesn’t even have that mixed look to her. My opinion tho

    • @iluvbwx
      @iluvbwx 4 месяца назад +10

      People all over the world view black and mixed people differently which is why mixed people are more, globally, palatable and are more likely to have global success than black people. African Americans’ desperation to claim multiracial people who don’t even have a large percentage of black in them is sad. Support black artists instead of throwing a fit because a multiracial person doesn’t falsely identify as black.

As it comes to Gen Z it’s a different thing because YALL in this generation is very different as far as quality genres and so forth. It’s very Eclectic so it’s hard for one to stand out.
