- In this video I discuss the backstory behind the album, One In A Million by the late R&B singer, Aaliyah.
This album showcased a more refined Aaliyah, stepping out of the shadows of her then mentor, R. Kelly into her signature Y2k aesthetic.
this era deserved a grammy. everything abt it was perfectly crafted. the one i gave my heart to shuda got a grammy nod for best pop vocals and journey to the past
She was also robbed at the 1999 VMA awards for AYTS❗
Facts but I think she didn't get the recognition she deserved cause she was just coming back from being blackballed
Finally! A video that doesn’t solely focus on her traumatic experiences and untimely demise! Thank you!!
IN MY OPINION IT WAS HER REAL DEBUT ALBUM 💿
Yesssss
Yeah cause there was definitely a lot of trauma associated with "Age Aint Nothing But A Number a nd this album was heavily influenced influenced influenced by R. Kelly but with "One In A Million" this w qas a brand new everything. A brand new Aaliyah, new sound, new era,new style and fashion, new influence and also an introduction to new producers. Missy and Timbaland had finally gotten their first record deal with Blackground Records thru Aaliyah and were introduced to the world as two hottest producers around town. 😊
As a massive Aaliyah fan to this day, I always go back and forth (no pun intended) between One In A Million and Self Titled as my favorites from her
Right those are her best two in my opinion
exactlyyyy!! im in my self titled era its just so many hits 😩!
@@wtttffreally? What’s your self titled album called?
Aaliyah. The one that's in red
@@courtneicey15 thats not what they meant lol
This album was definitely a classic andwell put together. This album was her return back to R&B especially after she was blackballed by the industry. During her time period of being absent other artists rose to fame. Brabdy,Monica Destinys Child..etc but Aaliyah came back with a vengeance and dropped "One In A Million" and solidified her place in the music industry with a whole new sound that opened doors for future generations. 😊
I agree it’s like the culture recognize Aaliyah style & everything but they try to overlook what she contributed to the culture sonically and her appeal she was way ahead of her time one of a million showed she grown up especially when she chose missy & tim that was a damn allstar team !
Facts
Aaliyah , Janet and Mariah were the first artists I ever listened to in English. Wish we still had Aaliyah she was a star
She is the reason I became obsessed with fashion and I love that for me. I know that she would LOVE todays music and honestly would have broken even more barriers than she did when she came out.
Same! It breaks my heart because I see Aaliyah in a lot of today’s R&B. She would’ve loved the new girls
@@domraonix ....there's an interview with WHITNEY....and JORDIN SPARKS....where she talks about ....wanting ...BABYGIRL for the LEAD of the SPARKLE movie....but unfortunately....we all know what happened....thanks for the video....i learned some new things about the forever YOUNG....forever INSPIRING....AALIYAH.....
Since she MOVED UPSTAIRS...I KNOW she knows how TRULY MISSED SHE IS YO 😢❤
This was the first tape my mom allowed me to buy! Once I got a CD player then I bought it again on CD! I loved this 💿! ❤❤❤
Discovering her at the very end of 2021-2022 was divine timing. Idk how many times i have thought about the future she could've had as she's a true angel. Listening to her discography while being 16 was i would say was essential to the person i'm becoming as an adult. I look up to her character, her kindness, and her mark on the world and try to see that in others + myself.
I was probably the first person in my state Oregon to have the "one in a million" album. I bought it the day it came out, they were still putting it on the shelf when I got it. The clerk told me I was the first person to buy it. I didn't know it was coming out that day. I was just in the right place at the right time. I remember first playing it and being mesmerized, I'm talking absolutely blown away. Beatz 4 da streetz, hot like fire, and the title track had me floored. I had to run it back, because I couldn't believe what I was hearing. All of my friends would ask me how it sounded. And I couldn't explain it. I had no words. I'd say I've never heard anything like it. They would further question was it fast songs or slow songs? And I would say it's not fast or slow, it's just these beats that go crazy. Then when I'd play it for them they all would have the same reaction. They would be like WHAT? OMG! and they'd all instantly be in LOVE with the sound. You literally had to be there. Hearing that album for the first time in 1996 was like 🤯 That album was a complete shift in the sound of music. I always liked Aaliyah, but she became one of my favorites entertainers of all-time after hearing that album. 🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤
I love hearing stories like these. My parents had the One in a Million CD but unfortunately i was born after she died so i didn’t get to experience Aaliyah in real time. I remember my first deep dive into her music on RUclips years ago, and i had the same reaction. I couldn’t believe what i was hearing. Ive been a huge fan ever since. I’ve bought two of her CD’s and have a couple posters of her, i wish i got to see her while she was here.I don’t think we’ll ever get another artist like her.
@@jalen7292 I wish she was still here, and that you had the opportunity to experience her in life. Especially, today 01/16/24 which is her birthday. She was the epitome of cool. She was the dopest! I can't truly describe how cool she was, but she was that girl. Her personality was like a mixture of Janet Jackson and Rihanna, but cooler than both of them.
@@chip7956 I love that example of Janet and Rihanna, because I say the same thing. I've educated myself as much as I could about Janet, who is just amazing and incomparable in my eyes. I'm glad that they had a chance to meet. I like to think that without Janet there would be no Aaliyah, but without Aaliyah there would be no Rihanna.
This OIAM album is when I became an Aaliyah fan. I was very young but knew music. My aunt just bought a new car 96’ Cavalier lol and she bumped that album so much! and from there I became hooked on Aaliyah’s talent and beauty💛
I Loved 😍 Aaliyah and til this Day 🥰
I was born in August around
"Age ain't nothing but a Number" August of 94' so it wasn't until her Sophomore Album
'One in a Million" Album which I still have from the 90's. I loved her songs from:
"If your girl only knew"
"One in a Million"
"Hot like Fire"🔥
"4 Page Letter"
"Got to Give it up"(Marvin Gaye tribute)
Produced by Timbaland & Missy Elliott
Definitely Highly Underrated and She's definitely Dearly Missed 😢.
Rest in Aaliyah "Babygirl" Haughton 🙏🕊️
Rest in Peace Static Major 🙏🕊️
Rest in Peace Magoo 🙏🕊️
We miss you baby girl!
Mos Def 😢
Her best Album!! I keep saying this🔥🔥🔥
I loved All of them honestly but in my humble opinion her last Album was perfect 👌.
But I respected Missy and Timbaland's Style
She was a beautiful Artist she will always be missed
She’s an amazing singer
THANK YOU FOR THIS!..There are so many sophomore albums that don't get the recognition they deserve...(some of my favs (including "One In A Million") are "The Writing's On The Wall", "Fear Of Flying", "Never Say Never", "The Diary of Alicia Keys" just to name a few...This album was a BOP!!!!!!! RIP Aaliyah we miss you, still...
This so so good we go so deep! She’s so relevant in todays music!! I love her so much she inspired me in so many ways! ❤
It just was so sad when she died
I absolutely love this video! Thanks for going in depth on such an album! This album is my fav! The One I Gave My Heart To visually always pleases my soul! The whole album is ONE IN A MILLION 🔥 You just know she wanted to change the game and her perseverance and strength speaks loud in this album and forever is a motivator to those that see her story and how beat all the odds! Def legendary and I appreciate you so much for this video! The album deserves so much more ! I’m glad that you appreciate such a gem!
RIP Static Major 🕊️
I absolutely loved this video, thank you so much for showcasing her art, talent & devotion into her music. Im a big time Aaliyah fan & I cannot wait for you to talk about her self-titled album! And don’t forget to mention her soundtrack singles like I don’t wanna be, are you feeling me! Those are one of my favorites. And if you do her posthumously album please talk about her song come over thats like one of my top 5 favorites of all her songs!
This album is amazing!!!!
Brandy never say never please 🙏🏾 ❤
Yeah that was a good album and Brandy also said that album was inspired by Aaliyah 😊
What a fun review, and I really loved the edmb-chill music you have layered throughout your video! It was fun and informative!
I know ppl will probably attack me in these comments when I mention Beyonce but lowkey have always found Beyonce having a creepy obsession with AAliyah. Not Aaliyah as an artist but AAliyah the person & persona. I have seen many interviews of Beyonce even mimicking certain facial expressions and even the mystique of Aaliyah. The point is, something about AAliyah drew ppl to her and what ever that was is amazing because still to this day even gen z will hear her music become fans instantly.
I totally agree and its definitely weird. Even her having Blue Ivy come out on stage during "The Renaissance Tour" resembling Aaliyah with the shades and the bandana and baggy clothes. 😅
Y’all are so delusional..lmao. Your jealousy for Beyonce and her success is evident, your upset because she reached heights that many others haven’t. You don’t have to bring Beyonce down to praise Aaliyah especially because they both came on the scene in the 90’s and were friends before aaliyah died.
Love this album. At first I under estimated it , now it’s my favorite
Deep Dive MONICA or Brandy albums
When are you posting the video about the third album?
Next Thursday
@domraonix
Can't wait Love Babygirl 😇
Doesn’t look like we got it yet
One of the most solidified the authentic work ethic being a outstanding inspiration we always lose the pure iconic talent w heart Respect to Missy & Dmx Chris Brown for Keeping Her Legacy to a Standard It's Suppose to Be.
I can tell you REALLY love music! Thank you 4 sharing your unique thoughts! They're very interesting .
Thank you so much! 💜
I would definitely say this should've been her first album. you can tell her 1st album didn't feel right, it was a good sound but not hers, can't explain it. I feel it didn't show her range enough except in street thang (1st album).
OIAM was always my favorite album of hers.
Girl WTF are you talking about? Whatta you mean it didn't get the recognition that it did? IT WENT double platinum!
GREAT JOB 👍🏽
Can we please get a brandy never say never video? That album definitely deserves one!
I missed her major ❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite album
They love protecting abusers. So sad she went through all of that.
I’ve been waiting for someone to retrospective vids of Aaliyah’s albums!!! ❤️❤️ Also what happens to the vids dedicated to Rihanna and Nicki?
Still miss aalyiha
It's Aaliyah 😅
A-a-l-i-y-a-h...I got the beats for the streets...
good breakdown
Rip Aaliyah ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
There shouldn't be any problems at 4 her. So who tripping they can somewhere.
No no no no im am a huuuuuge Aaliyah fan and yes One in a Million is a good album but her self titled Aaliyah Album is her best by far that album has hit after hit Try Again , More Than A Woman ,Rock The Boat , We Need A Resolution like that album is the s**t
I guess I'm too uncomfortable to sympathize. Even with lowballing, you could buy a house and car without debt and interest. You have enough to never have to work if you choose.

she was just so creative and out of the box it blows my mind! she continuously inspires me to be myself and venture out of my comfort zone 🪽!
