I’ve always loved Tony’s fantastic bass playing. “Man Who Sold the World” is still my fave Bowie album of all-time.
Mine too
Wow! I totally agree...he sounds amazing! A bass tone similar to Jack Bruce/Cream!
Mine is Ziggy, then Aladdin Sane, but I Love every second of The Man Who Sold The World! I taught myself to play Black Country Rock on guitar (with a little help from youtube) ! I really hope they tour again, preferably with 'Woody' ! dx
And width of a circle is my favorite track!
Woody! What a drummer! Still fantastic, still very tight ;-)
Still a spider, the last spider.
Great band...so good to hear Bowie's music played live again...it's such a tribute, not a replacement.
Seen these do The man who sold the world live at Bridgewater hall, fantastic, played some.good stuff after too
Very good way to state it.
What a fantastic song. Great to hear it
Woody just as sharp as back in the day. Oh, how I loved the (Spiders From Mars) band and I was 12 at the time. They developed my sense of what a rock and roll band could do. Mott, Roxy, Slade all were huge for this wee lad.
God, I love this song and Woody's work on it.
This is underrated. Drum, bass and solo guitar are amazing!
Epic song,Tony Visconti's bass line is a masterpiece, Woody at al rest of the band performed well...
A big respect for Tony Visconti's bass play!
Absolutely nailed it! Thanks for posting.
This is terrific. Woody and Tony - thank you so much and miss you. To the others, thank you. However, with all due respect, there were THREE guitarists here doing what ONE Mick Ronson did so INCREDIBLY WELL - ALL BY HIMSELF. Ronson was, is and always will be my guitar hero. Not the fastest, but man, what feeling, what expression, and from what everyone I've read say, one hell of a nice man.
This was the 1st bowie song i heard and my life was forever changed...this is a fabulous tribute, wish this band would come to grand rapids, michigan.
If this band is in your area....BUY A TICKET AND GO!!!!!!
You won't be sorry,
kkh369 I guess we could just never hear anyone play Bowie's songs live again but what good would that be. I had a blast exchanging stories with other Bowie fans (I saw them before and after Bowie passed). It was all about the songs.
kkh369 I get it, you're not a live music fan, not everyone appreciates it. Should orchestras not play classical music because the composers are all dead? Beethoven never "recorded" his own music. It was meant to be played by others long after he was gone.
kkh369
Knob head!
Wow, that was bloody good 👏👏👏
so making unfair comparisons to Bowie just doesn't matter...this is pretty much the remaining personell if one was to present this material live.....Trevor, Mick, David are all gone...sadly...but Tony and Woody played on these songs....this is as good as it's going to get....and it is still very good...the vocals are never going to move the songs the way David could but the bass / drums are totally conveying the feel/vibe of the way the stuff was played and recorded because...yes...it's the same guys doing it...and the guitar player is really doing a great job of capturing Ronson's raw tone and vibe...dialing in just the right amount of sloppy feel that Ronno was known for...brilliant to hear this stuff done live....'nuff said.
I agree 100%
I fear that once all these guys are gone there will be negative comments on every version or cover that anyone does of the music off all these incredible albums, comparing the artists with David, mick, woody, trevor , Tony, Earl Slick , Carlos Alomar, Fripp and the others, but I don’t want this too happen. The music needs to stay alive, I would like to see covers from people who love and are inspired by them into future generations (well I won’t live to see them lol) but the music can’t be forgotten,
in our current state of the world without any real "live concerts" this is even more of a gem.....I'm feeling older every day....this takes me back to a better time...
Amazing Musicianship, from all quarters! But just watch Mick Woodmansey go on the drums, he is not just some old ,washed up rocker going through the motions, he is directing the orchesta , whilst being the best 'metronome' for the rest of the band! This is an amazing performance, I missed the tour due to (laziness) but if they ever tour again I will be there ! dx
They will tour but unfortunately without Woody as the rest of the band doesn't seem to feel comfortable with him not being vaccinated. God, how I hate all this covid-shizzle!!!!
I'm totally blown away !! this is as close to the original album version as it get, in my opinion !! always loved Glen in heaven 17 and James Stephenson in gene loves jezebel so for me this is like a dream come true, thanks so much for all the inspiration to my own drumming career Mr Woodmansey, you are truly an icon !!
Wish I could have been there. I have always loved Tony’s bass playing in Width and he does not disappoint here! And Woody rocks!
Great show! We must all say a special Thanks! to our dearly beloved Phillip Plant for his original musical contributions throughout the ages. His fretless Bass finger-work is superior and I used to listen to him for hours in the rehearsals. I was the Tea Boy aged 14.
super rework and vocals !
Thanks for posting. Terrific :) x
i've been lucky enough to see them twice.a brilliant show both times
in tears
That was awesome! 🎸🌹🤘⚡
Fantastic job by James Stevenson and Paul Cuddeford on the 'Ronson' guitars, excellent. I was at this gig, the sound is a damn site better on this video mix than it was in the venue!!!
thanks Woody and Tony for keeping this amazing music out there, arguably my fave Bowie album
This is sensationally brilliant.
A really good version.
Magnificent x
Saw this band at Sheffield Uni bloody fantastic one of Bowies best albums ever
My first Bowie album was Space Oddity. I bought Young Americans the day it was released.
love it that TV still wants to get up in stage to play live. Amazing catalogue of work left in his wake.
I was unaware that Tony Visconti also composed - just checked, he's only done a little arranging, zero composing.
It's not "bull", it's paying homage and playing songs that he has a close connection with. Any funnily enough, having fun.
kkh369 Yep. At his time of life and with what he's achieved, the deserves to be. 😊
We must all make an effort to relocate and digitally restore as much of the 1970's stuff as possible for posterity. It is good to see that many of the 'hipsters' never stopped producing over the intervening years. (Tony Marsh where are you at???)
Tony was awesome meeting you and your family for Thanksgiving dinner at my Daughters Tara's home. And your Mom she was a blast.
Great sound
Great!
I’m not bothering with making comparisons or who’s better than who or is it authentic, I’m just just thinking about what an amazing songwriter Bowie was!
I have no idea who he is, but having seen Bowie and Ronson many times, the lead is a worthy successor.
Very impressive
Woody was. and still is the ultimate, no other could be this guy...………...Spiders
Excellent drummer. Very tight & precise. Got badly s**t on by Bowie's manager Tony De Fries, didn't even let him or Trevor know about Bowie's quote "this is the last show we will ever do" @ the Appolo unforgivable.
Bowie is my favourite artist of all time
He was the best. I saw him with Earl Slick & Frampton.
these guys are Gods!! Visconti fucking kills on Bass still!
Nailed the guitar solo.
4:20 Fantastic 12 string acoustic sound
TONY is the SHIT!!!!!!
A few references have been made to " that guitarist". That guitarist is Earl Slick who played with Bowie on and off for 40 years. He plays lead on David Live which includes this track.
not slick.. it's james stevenson.. ex alarm..cult etc. and great btw.
This isnt earl slick although It may look like him he dosent sound nearly as good.
Just by the style alone you can tell this ain't Slick. The guy doing the solo is doing great honor to Mick though!
this fucking rocks good!!! reminds mid1977 in W.Germany jammed with some "lead guitar player" from U-Boat cool to still have the autograpghed card.
great sustain whoever is on lead....even mick ronson would be impressed!!
James Stevenson was guitarist with 'Chelsea' back in 77-79, thereafter 'Generation X', a fab guitarist, I've seen him play in London with both those bands. The strange irony is that both punk bands were probably partly responsible for keeping Woody Woodmansey's U-Boat album out of the charts, imho!
James Stevenson - a brilliant guitarist who told me that Ronno was his top inspiration and the reason he picked up a guitar 🎸
Woody do you know how Mick Ronson achieved his signature Vibrato? Seems to me to be mainly on his G string. I read somewhere that it's uniqueness was due to a hangnail on one finger. Do you have any idea? Always loved your drumming style Woody. Very original.
A really underrated album that somehow got overlooked in the hysteria over Ziggy. It brings tears to my eyes to see Woody and Tony playing together again. Every time I hear this particular song I cant help think 'what if' they had progressed as a band, the Spiders from Mars, rather than David Bowie and his band. Their time together was too short but what a ride it was. This is a decent version but I must confess i'm not a big fan of the singer. Its just weird singing that number in a suit.
That looks like Steve Norman {spandau ballet} on acoustic guitar and can play saxophone.
Great musicians but doesn't have that dark, erotic atmosphere that Bowie created with this song...
1:47 Tony does his Status Quo impersonation
I think it is better that the singer is not trying to be a 'tribute' Bowie. Good enough just to see Visconti driving the band like he always did back then. I have to admit that if anyone ever has to cover the riffs for a biopic of Ronno, this guitarist is amazing. This is an incredible copy of the nihilistic playing style of Man Who Sold the World.
Please identify the backing singers.
Who is the guitarist nailing the Ronson leads?
would love to hear Trevor bolder on that one!!
Tony Visconti played bass on the man who sold the world album (including this song)

k
Is that Frankie Boyle on guitar on the left?
yes
Who needs viagra , I just listen to this😊
Who's on vocals ?
How old is Tony Visconti, 75 ?
Glenn Gregory, from Heaven 17.
@@AHoundOnAHonda Let me go ?
@tbay That's the fella. 👍
ofcourse nothing/nobody beats Bowie and Ronson, but this version is pretty good.
uhm. Next one please.
Bowie was only 69 when he died.
What no guitar Fellatio????? wtf is that about, 50yrs later and still havn't caught up with the master.
Reverse Reverb at 4.30!
SUPERFUNKACALIFRAGISEXAAAAAAAAAAAAAY
This slap-head will never carry off Bowie
They are NOT a cover band anymore than Celebrating Bowie with Mike Garson etc., They are playing the music as an orchestra might play Mozart or Beethoven without trying to BE them. I have seen a cover Bowie act .. terrible .. as they do try to BE HIM .. which, as you say, no one will ever manage. The fact that bands are keeping His music alive is excellent, imo. I saw Holy Holy last night and it was one of the most fun evenings and they all played and sang superbly ... we danced in the aisles, literally.
I have seen a number of performances from ex Bowie band members, and, well all do offer another dimension.
Not certain why they do it, normally musicians in a band find their own level at the back generally, not being disrespectful
I have seen Earl Slick try to come to the front of the band, lead the band, in recent late gigs, but it don’t match
Still not certain, is it to keep Bowie alive, money, the fact they want to put their own mark on the things they helped create? Maybe Bowie suppressed things!?
The jury still out on this one.....
not slick.. it's james stevenson.. ex alarm..cult etc. and great btw.
and don't forget his incredible work with gene loves gezebel !!
when i was seventin i was better
Everyone is saying "the singer", "the vocalist"....
poor Glenn Gregory, that smug grin is all in vain :-D
vocalist sounds like the he's trying way to hard and missing the subtlety Bowie told a story and didn't beat you over the head with the book.
the vocalist sounds like a cross between Ian Hunter and Bill Nelson in places....but not a lot like Bowie....but still does a decent job interpreting the songs...overall the band really rocks!!...really digging the guitar player ..very "old school" Ronson kind of vibe....
Singer just about average and the acoustic guitarist a huge ego tripper. That apart, very good. 👏👏👏
Glenn Gregory is a respected performer in his own right, the band were formed before Bowie died so in no way tried to emulate him, theyare far and away better than some of the so called tribute bands doing the rounds now.I know who I would rather go see!!
Tony is Brain.Bowie is just voice and even this, is just ok, Tony made it sounds better-compare how weaker is Bowie alive, much much less dramatic for example in Heroes
Super band. They needed to look for an adequate singer a little longer.
None of those should have been there, it should have been true Bowie fans, end off.
Who the hell is singing it’s horrible! And don’t do guitar harmonies on the main riff geez!
