    My grandfather was a hairdresser & had his own salon in Oaklyn, NJ. He taught me how to add volume & lift to my hair. He would set my hair in curlers & use the long metal clips then put me under these huge dryers. After he’d brush my hair put. It’s worked better than any technique I’ve used since. Oldies are goodies ❤

      @@naturalkinkycurlymarie7496Some just have naturally thick hair regardless of whether they use heat on it. My mam is in her 60s and still has super thick, long, blonde hair. She blow dries and straightens hers. It's just genetics. Both my parents have thick hair so me and my brother do too. Using heat can damage the hair you have but it's not gonna affect the hair that's not grown in yet. Your hair will either thin with age or it won't. Obviously if you live to be 90 odd then it's probably gonna start thinning at some point.

      black women might use this method, but this has been done this way by White women for centuries. Setting lotion was first popularised in the 1800’s, people would buy the ingredients and make their own and then eventually it became something you could buy.
      The shampoo and set fell out of fashion a long time ago (at least here in Ireland) but it’s still popular with the old ladies.
      Also I’ve never heard of or met anyone scared of admitting they wear hair extensions and the only person I’ve known to wear a wig was a person I know that had went through chemo. Wigs and hair extensions just aren’t as popular in the White community as they are in your community and even if they were, I can guarantee you that nobody would be scared to admit it 😂

    When I travel, I do “pin curls”. Just wrap slightly damp hair in a circle, use bobby pins to secure the curl, and in the morning, I have long waves that last well into the evening. I learned the technique from a great aunt.

    • @vegetablea9611
      @vegetablea9611 Год назад +4

      that is good for waves, but not for volume, though. you need to lift the roots up, and the curlers help do that.

    Finally someone, who just let's their hair stay curly after removing the curlers, rather then doing a brush out 😅
    I thought, I was the only one, who just adores the pronounced curls they leave you with, when mostly left alone after setting!
    I do use a blow dry hood (or whatever they are called) though, because my thick, dense hair would take forever to dry, otherwise.

    My grandmother used to get a body wave perm and would roll her hair every single night with these same rollers, in this same pattern, cover it with a silk scarf then sleep in those things! 😮 She would occasionally roll my hair after my bath, and use Dippity-Do as the setting gel and I would sleep in those things too and had no clue how she was able to even sleep because I couldn’t. 😂 Those plastic stays dug into my head and the bristles inside those rollers poked my scalp severely. When she rolled my hair it was to give me those Shirley Temple curls. And then she would put a big bow on top of my head on the side and then she would squirt Clairol Final Mist over it all to hold it in place. This was in the 70’s for church. 😅 Everybody thought it was cute, but none of the little girls were wearing their hair in that style so I was embarrassed. When I got home, I would brush it and give myself a Farrah Fawcet hairdo. 😂
