  • Some of you have been asking how I do my hair, and for the most part it's still very similar to my older foam rollers tutorial, but seeing as how my hair is much longer now, I thought I'd show you an update!
Vintage styles like this can be intimidating at first, but once you do it a couple times, it'd really not that bad! Trust me, if I can do it, you can do it hahaha. t's also all about learning how your hair reacts to things, how long it takes to dry, etc. I bELIEVE IN YOOUUU.

RACHEL! You cleaned your sunroom! ✨✨✨Also, you definitely have natural curl to your hair. We seem to have very similar hair, and I get 2b-3a curls using mousse and diffusing, but I’ve considered just using foam rollers to kind of “cheat” the system sometimes too. This inspires me to buy some foam rollers! 🌀🌀🌀

💝Rita's always been one of my ageless fem icons. Your hair length in this video is what I've always naturally gravitated toward. I just prefer to clip my coiffure up in a slight pouf @ top of crown for a bit of height -- and keep it from falling in face.
My wavy hair is so fine, the volume ever so slight, that layers only ever worked well w/serious styling manipulation, torture & hairspray. Would routinely force it to straighten or curl. (Fringe has never ever laid right between my super wispy strands & a stubborn cowlick🐄) In my heavy styling days, I'd have to wash daily bcos of tendency for my hair to snarl even more outrageously in that heightened state too 😲. (Which is now why I see the enormous appeal of going wiggy w/it to enhance things.)
✂️Whenever I dared go "natural" w/shoulder length or slightly shorter style, I always felt lacking somehow. ☆Like a humiliated & embarrassed shorn sheep🐑. ☆Or, like some modern day 💪Samson, totally lacking in my own feminine💄power & allure💋. I'd rather risk looking old-fashioned & other worldly than feel boyish.

Just for a moment, I will lift the veil of my age and mention back in the day, we used combs to comb out the curls. The only brushes we had were the bristly type, which did okay, but caused you to lose a lot of the curl (its why you like the brush you use). Plus, comb out around your hand, so you're not pulling the curl down. (I don't remember having a gel until much later, so we didn't have that support. I guess with the gel, you dont need to worry about it as much.) And the sponge rollers were an upgrade, before that we used rag curls. Any whoot, thanks for the memories.

    • @AlyssaRavenwood
      @AlyssaRavenwood 4 года назад +3

I have that problem. If I try to brush out my curled hair the curls disappear. I'm using an open brush for curls. I've tried finger combing but they don't look polished enough with just that.

I do 4 rows of rollers across my head. 2 at the top and 2 in front of my forehead to create a nice fringe. but it could very well be different for you because i have VERY straight hair. :-)

I started with bobby pin curls, then these wire/mesh/brush in the middle then secured with a thick plastic tooth pick rollers, on to pink sponge rollers.I tried the hard plastic rollers too. At 64 yrs my hair is long like yours and I STILL USE PINK ROLLERS. Because the results are beautiful. Flat irons and hot roller damage our hair. I use both hair raviolis and foam rollers depending on what I want the result to be. I only really have hair on the top of my head so the whole sleeping in rollers thing isn't bad, its also all of his length so there isn't a whole lot of bulk. I stick a hairnet on to keep them in vague place as well. If I get dents I just stick a hair flower on top of it and no one's the wiser.

I know this is old, but you can usually find the motions setting lotion at beauty supplies geared towards black women lol. That or something similar. It's a classic, my mom used to use it when she permed her hair.

    Thanks!
My hair is about twice as long as yours so basically - wish me luck! 😅 I've been trying it with the foam rollers but I guess my hair was too damp, I'll try it with dry hair again. This is so exciting, I'm really looking forward to doing my hair again, hopefully with success! The vintage style is just so right for me, I just have to find out how to do it right. ;)
Thank you so much for your tutorial, I also really *love* that you put in the description what music you used!
Please continue with your channel, it's so wonderful! :D ♡

I wonder if this would work on fine, thinner hair. Because dang. The end result just looks so pretty. I need on my head

I wondered the same. My hair is short and straight but I wonder how well this would work if I can ever have the patience to grow it out

    • @iprobablyforgotsomething

As a haver of fine hair, my hair always fell out of the foam rollers, or half fell out, so it never really worked. : (
I'm just here because I like watching the vid, lol! XD
For real, though, I did learn gently detangling still-wet hair and hand-coiling it to shape the curl allowed my half straight/half curly hair to form better curls (they Shirley Temple'd when short enough) which held better if (1) let to air-dry when shorter (2) coiled and bobby-pinned when longer (3) braided to desired size and/or (4) coated very *very* lightly after washing with a light non-greasy oil (such as Emu oil -- yes really) and then follow step 1 or 2 or 3.

I tried this and I'll tell you what I learned from the first time trying
I absolutely failed, my hair was still damp from the shower and after having these on for 4 hours, my hair didn't dry. The smaller sections dried and had beutiful curls, but the bigger sections were completely straight and it looked really stupid to have straight and curly pieces of hair. I just put my wore my hair in a bun for the rest of the day. I was really excited about this so I will definitely give it another try. But if you want to try this, do not do what I did.

I highly recommend Lotta Body liquid setting lotion, excellent, stood the test of time, walmart, has a coconut shea butter formula. will definitely set the curls. I just realized I could pour the lotta body into one of those empy foaming hand cleaner bottles, adding a bit bottle water to it and it will be foam like urs. I will do that

I can't curl my hair for the life of me. Every time, no matter how careful I am, the curls change direction at random points. I've tried combing each piece while rolling, different methods (ie. rag curls, foam rollers, pin curls) and nothing works for me. I give up. :-D

Love it!! I've been following your hair tutorials for about a year now - my question is, how do you keep the curls intact after the first day? Mine always fall flat and weak when I brush them out day 2, do you reroll them? Sleep in a scarf? Ponytail? I spend time on my curls and I'd like to figure out how to make them last longer.
    Longtime viewer, love you!! ❤❤

i’ve slept in pin curls before and i can confirm that they come undone quite often, especially if you move around in your sleep. the pins will also poke your head if you sleep in a certain way.
