ANYWHO yes! Hello! I've tried pretty much every method of vintage styling/curling for hair eXCEPT for curling irons, so I thought it would be fun to learn how to do that with you guys, following the amazing tutorial by the beautiful Pinup Palmer.
Let's just say I think I'll be sticking to foam rollers.

Have you looked into some of Jessica Kellgren-Fozard's hair tutorials. They are usually no heat and get a similar look.

i've been trying to master styles like this but since i have naturally wavy AF hair, apparently i'm not doing it right because any brushout looks like i've been electrocuted. excited to try this one - you're so relatable :)

Naturally curly here. Too terrified to attempt a brushout. Will keep my expected unpredictable chaotic mess on my head as opposed to a new one lol

@@chelsead6054 yes!! i had a friend who does hair professionally explain it to me in a really interesting way - she said the shape of straight hair is round, while wavy/curly is flat. she compared it to a bunch of spaghetti noodles vs. fettucini, and explained that you CAN get that result but must use a special comb, because brushing it will throw the angles out of whack. i was skeptical, but i also had THE BEST HAIR OF MY LIFE this weekend trying her tips, so i think she's onto something! ;)

My hair never liked to take "heat setting," and it's only gotten worse with age. Thanks to your videos, I finally learned the best way to "wet" set mine using Motions foam and pillow curlers though and so I can actually wear my hair curled again. YAY!! Thank you!

After doing my hair vintage for the past 12 years, I learned that there really is no need to use a curling iron to curl ones hair unless one has thick hair.
I use to have thick hair when I was younger and it was a pain never having enough curlers to curl my hair with and why I use to use a curling iron.
I learned that I am able to get the same curl results with foam rollers, and all I need to do is make sure to curl my hair in the same direction as the woman in the video did. And follow the rest of the directions in the video.
I have a lovely scar on my arm from one of those. It barely touched my arm and I got a 2nd degree blister burn

Rachel, this was amazing! I'm trying for Jessica Rabbit this year and was really scared to try this. if you are going to keep using the curling iron, they do make awesome heat gloves for the hand that goes near the wand, so you don't burn your digits. I needed it because I don't have feeling in the tips of some of my fingers, and it was a lifesaver not having burn blisters!

After a crazy week house building, where everything felt akin to Murphy's Law in full swing, this was simply divine. It put the smile back on my face, and made me feel my problems were paltry, compared to your hair struggles. I have to give three cheers and a huzzah to your cat in the background tho. It had me howling with laughter. It reminded me of every time I tried to talk to mom on the phone. She would begin talking and then start yelling and hissing at her cat. Kitty! ...hiss... Kitty! Get down kitty! ...as it jumped up on her countertop. It always got up to mischief every time she got on the phone. They made a lovely comedic routine out of it. ...ha ha ha...This likewise was simply a delight! Many thanks! You've made my day!

I think it looks great! I was wondering how women ever had the time to do it, but maybe it's what they did with their spare time before social media existed! ;)
To my knowledge, lots of women would have a "wash and set" at the salon periodically (like once a week) and they'd basically just wear the same hairstyle between salon visits, maybe freshening it up every day with a little product and brushing. They didn't do this kind of hairstyle themselves, at home every day! And of course it's a different story completely for stars of Hollywood like Rita whom this style is based on. She definitely had other people doing her hair!
Women also helped each other with hair.

Loved the video and excited for the sewing project! Ugh, i hate using a curling iron. It messes up my hair if I heat style it too much and it’s so tedious. I just wrap it in a scarf at night and let it dry and I get beautiful curls

My daughter turned me onto your videos just this summer, and I’ve been having fun watching all these old ones of yours. This video reminds me of when I was a girl back in the 80s. I loved having my hair all sleek and smooth like that (40s & 50s fashion had come back in style, along with permed hair and curling irons), but it could take a couple of hours every day to achieve the look 😫 I still really love the look, but I don’t have anywhere that kind time and patience these days 🤣

I just had to review your tutorial on how to set your in foam/sponge rollers because after about 2,5 years of following you I FINALLY ordered myself some foam rollers which arrived today
And... (now i get to the point) in that video you said “i promise, one day i'll be good at intros!“
And while you were certainly GOOD at it then, you have become a MASTER at it!
