I just want to remind people in the comments that this dude has been painting for decades, has studied art at a tertiary level and has been practising at a high level pretty consistently. If you can't paint like him, just do it for another 20 years and see what happens.
Not to mention he's won loads of gold daemon trophies over his career
All hail RICHARD GREY
Fantastic tutorial. I find the (sometimes) rambling commentary just as fascinating as the painting. These are definitely some of my favorite painting videos and so informative.
The rust on the legs looks amazing!
As always, learn so much from your tutorials - thank you for everything you do!
Such a great video!! I learnt a lot from this Richard really liked the technique with contrast medium when weathering, very useful and I can't wait to try as I'm going back over some of my older models with weathering effects.
Absolutely amazing as always.
Thank you for sharing how you did this!
so happy to have found this channel from his FB post. i can't wait to watch more of his videos, his work is just amazing.
Really impressed with your work, thanks for sharing
Really like this was of using contrast and medium. This is exactly as I use oil paints like streaking grime. Never liked using cotton buds so I just thin streaking grime first in a pot and then put it on over the model and use another pot of spirit to remove it. Going to try this on some contrast/speed paints :)
This is wonderful great job.
Watching this inspired delusions of adequacy in me, tried out brushing on chipping to a sentinel. Madness.
I've never seen lenses being painted like that, looks way better than the "gw way". Gonna give it a try :)
Fantastic!
holy dude, that some skills.. new sub !
If you applied this to a Primaris marine, would you maybe add/change anything in the process? Lovely results! Thank you
It stresses me out so much that yo'ure holding the head of the sentinel with your hands lol
Great paintjob, thank you for uploading!
I'm living dangerously! Thank you.
When it comes to Vallejo Metal Color paints, I allways add one drop of metal varnish to them. This makes them less prone to the problem you described - they flow less.
Thank You!!!!!
Dood, you make painting look like magic
Duddits would have loved this
Im about to have an aneurism watching you paint that and it not be mounted to a block or something.
I just like to make a mess 😂
Loved that contrast wash over it. I was thinking 'what the hell!?' but as usual, should have just assumed it would work amazingly. Going to try that on my dreadnaught but any alternatives to using dark oath flesh? I have a few of the (many) other brown contrast paints.
Any colour should work, just be aware that some of them are very dark and will need to be diluted a lot. Something like Wyldwood would need to be thinned with medium before you apply any of it and it will give a much darker finish in the recesses.
@@demonrich ace thanks I have that in my box. Will give it a go!
@@tombrand236 do it on a test piece first ! :)
@@bencops a wise recommendation!
Can you show us this but with a brush please? Thanks
may sound like an obvious question at what stage would you apply some transfers to the model ? cheers
What do you use for the contrast medium?
Will your GD piece be featured in videos on your Patreon?
Edit: you answered my question at the very of the video, so it sounds like you will
Mr Gray.. any update on when the shock trooper video is going to come out? Waiting to copy your scheme 😂
Wheres the guardsmen tutorial chief?
Looks awesome except the feet.
Hey I noticed that you say you have to repeat yourself a lot in your videos, would it help to make a video where you cover all of the stuff that you tend to repeat in each video and then recommend that people watch that video first so you don’t have to worry about it as much?
