Gotta say this is a really excellent video showcasing just how easy it is to portray a bunch of guardsmen from non-cadian regiments using little more than the Stands box
I dont agree with that though, just for the Vostroian for exemple, if you want to make a real army like that you are going to pay 10 times the price of a normal IG army (which is already pricey). The best would be to have more kits made by GW, at least Catachan ...
@MrAndyyybee you can kitbash models as much as you like so long as you can tell what they are, you don't even need to start with the proper kit. GW have a rule that armies used in their tournaments have to use all parts from them, but since the kits used here are 40k and Necromunda that isn't an issue.
I appreciate how approachable and achieveable these paint schemes (and the methods) are. Keep it up folks - your rambling chats and more focused videos are all great content.
Necromunda spiders! So many kitbash possibilities. Personally I'm going for a small Inquisition force I can use for boarding actions, either as Agents of the Imperium or Guard.
Perfect! I picked up my first box of the new shock troopers a couple of days ago, glad I've not just gone stright with the Cadian 8th before watching this vid :)
Nice tutorial, for the spiders one good add could be painting some tatoos or insignias such as webs or spiders on their armours/helmets, and add some flames on Redcowls' "helmet".
Love that you have kitbashed the heads. Ivs started using Escher heads on my 'Sisters too, just gives some individual personality to your models! Love seeing paints from other companies too, gives ideas to go and try those too
This is amazing! Been hyped for this ever since you guys started talking about doing it and you’ve totally delivered. Love this type of stuff that adds such a layer of customization to your army with relatively minor kit bashing and paint schemes.
Really appreciate how many of these conversions are just head-swaps or funky colour schemes, really makes the idea of doing custom regiments less intimidating (especially compared to other more involved kitbashes floating about)
I really enjoyed that tutorial. I like how you have jumping off points for different abilities and replicable techniques. I'm jonesing for some guard now!
For a Christmas present to my friend, I decided to paint up a squad of the Kill-Team Veteran Guardsmen, who have Death Korps of Krieg models. However, I aimed to paint them in the style of my friends army, the Praetorian Guard! So that meant lightly shaded Rakarth flesh for the helmet, shoulders and glove guards, blue pants, red coat. However, I realized after painting a lot of the leather brown, it just wasn't working as best as it could, it was missing something... So I painted all the leather straps white with Grey Seer and Apothecary White! It really pulls it together. Anyways, thanks for the video and all the great ideas!
This just shows the skills and talent Peachey has built up over his career. A couple of part changes and a nice clear simple paint scheme, and these look like a kit GW would sell off the shelf. Can't wait to see you take on the Tanith first and only.
Definitely like the Miasman model the best out of all these. It's worth noting that, if people aren't too fussed about using exclusively GW models, there are many third party options that can be acquired for cheaper. My favorite go-to company is Wargames Atlantic, who have a variety of plastic kits specifically built to be Imperial Guard compatible. These kits have head options that replicate Guard regiments GW no longer sell models for (Vostroyans, Steel Legion, Penal Legion, Mordians, Praetorians), or didn't when the kits were designed (Squats), or did but are kind of old (Catachan) or expensive at the time (Forge World Kriegsmen). The different kits have those loads of head options, so you can customize them very well. They even have set for modern "operator" style warriors, like a Sci Fi version of present day US military, if your military tastes skew more that direction. WA also just have a bunch of historical or fantasy kits, and an upgrade sprue for giving folks lasguns and gas masks. In case you really want to build a Severan Dominate army, and so need to repurpose WA's Late Romans kit.
Very nice tutorial. It gives me the impression that I could do it and it would look as good as the one Peachy has. Actually incites you to pick up a brush and not to break it.
Loved this! I had been very skeptical about how the new kits would look for kit bashing and representing regiments beyond the Cadian styles. Shall hope to see some Praetorians soon but looking forward to more of this quality stuff all the same!
The Cadian redesign is a great way for GW to make the most popular regiment resemble it's less known counterparts further, some custom 3d print bits or creative bit swapping yields surprising results compared to the old models. Great video, exited for part 2.
Really good video, I'm looking forward to the second part. It's a really good opportunity. Greetings from Germany (Bavaria). Finally I can build a regiment of the Mordian Iron Guard with the new models.
I’m going to be painting some corrupted guard up in Necromundan 8th colours to act as arbitrator baddies for a campaign with my kid soon so this was perfect timing, awesome work!
Necromunda Spiders, funny that in the past it used to be the Van Saars that was the Necromunda regiment, and the Necromunda Rough Riders were Ratskins, I guess the new Necromunda Rough Riders will be Nomad Bug riders :)
@@I-am-Ranb0 I didn't think Krieg would have Kasrkin, given that the Kasrkin are specifically Cadian special forces. Krieg *do* have an equivalent called Grenadiers, but the only real difference is that they have slightly more armour than the average DoK guardsman. Usually it's a breastplate in addition to the pauldrons DoK guardsmen already wear.
I used to absolutely love kitbashing stuff but a lot of the newer miniatures are much harder to kitbash with simple head swaps - it's amazing to see that the new Cadians are still easy enough to convert and it's still amazing how different you can make a Cadian look with a different head and different colours. The biggest frustration I used to find was actually getting the bits needed from all the various kits. Buying boxes of miniatures just to raid for heads wasn't really viable, even 10 years ago, and companies like Bitzbox were a bit unreliable regarding what they had in stock. And obviously GW stores aren't really all that keen on 3rd party conversion bits. Ultimately, coupled with it getting harder and harder to really play in a GW store, I just wrote it off and started buying 3rd party heads.
Have to say, the Necromunda Spider, Vresh Grenadier, and Miasma Redcowl are my favorite so far. Besides 40K these guys would work really well for Space Station Zero.
For those who may not be reliant on a GW for gaming and don't need to stick with 100% GW parts, I'd recommend Wargames Atlantic Bulldogs from the Death Fields range. As well as pith helmets (gasmask and non-gasmask variants), the kit contains beret heads (for Tanith) and peaked caps (Mordians). They are 'heroic' 28mm as well so scale well with GW kits. The Les Grognards kit has a multitude of sci fi versions of historical French uniform heads including bearskins if you need a Vostroyan fix.
I'd really like to flesh out the First and Only, to bring out more of the characters from the novels, it's still a whim at the moment. I've got the Gaunt's ghost box from a little while ago I've yet to build
Yes, the Miasman Redcowls, the stinky boys! sure, we have the honorable Maccabian Janissaries, the proud Mordian Iron Guard, the brave Catachan Jungle Fighters, but no, the unit I want for my army are the masters of stink!
Love all of these!!! Though there’s still something about the knee pads that bother me. Maybe because they don’t have straps going around. Just feels like unnecessary detail. But I did like it for the Necronmundan Spiders
Awesome regiments and awesome paintjobs. I guess part 2 is already made but after Darktide and seeing so many sleeveless guys in the box I've been wondering how could tattoos be painted on, like a mini aquila or skull? If you went to a tournament would the models be legal with these kitbashes ? As its just heads, asking for myself haha new to the game

GW have a rule that armies used in their tournaments have to use all parts from them, but since the kits used here are 40k and Necromunda that isn't an issue.
Just a head swap kit, which often costs half as much as the troops themselves. If you're lucky.

I’m gonna be making some Valhallan Ice Warriors because 1. I think they look cool, and 2. Because I live in Alaska and it gets really cold here
Necromunda spiders! So many kitbash possibilities. Personally I'm going for a small Inquisition force I can use for boarding actions, either as Agents of the Imperium or Guard.
Wow who’d of thought that the new Cadians look even better in alternative schemes than on the box! Great work as ever Peachy!
The colour scheme of the Ventrillian Nobles is really really great.

Using a brush guard to hold a citadel paint pot open. Mind. Blown!
Fabulous video. Love how different these can look while being mostly the same kit. Can't wait for part 2!
Awesome vid! Thank you for showcasing the necromundan spiders. It’s super tempting to give it a crack myself
Fantastic stuff (as usual) the kind of content you would have found in a white dwarf in the 90’s 2000’s.
Hahaha of course would start with the Ventrillans
