Mecha Salesman 21.4K subscribers "You have no idea what you have unleashed here today. There are some things far more frightening than death!" - The Grand Inquisitor's last words, indirectly warning Kanan Jarrus about Darth Vader.
Interesting considering he’s probably never done it before. Maybe before the purge, but I doubt he ever found a second lightsaber to practice with once the Jedi became scarce.
Kanan's Master was Depa Billaba, Mace Windu's old Padawan. She was one of the best duelists in the Order, not far off Dooku, Anakin and Obi-wan. She once took on Grievous and fought him to a stalemate. Kanan really had some of the best lightsaber training available. Interestingly, Kanan actually starts to fight with Depa's grace and elegance towards the end, which was too much for the Inquisitor.
In this scene, in this moment, having finally let go of his fear, he’s fighting the best he’s ever fought. The creators described it as the Force guiding him, once.
I think this is one of the few times we've seen a lightsaber fight between someone using a double bladed saber and someone else using dual lightsabers.
Kanan is the complete opposite of Anakin. While Anakin is terrified of people dying or leaving him, Kanan understands that death will come for everyone he loves, himself included, he will use their memory to be stronger
0:33 Ezra you literally build the damn thing. Its your own lightsaber. Did you only plan to use the blaster option as a way to hide its a lightsaber? Then again, he doesn't have much experience with combat at this point in this life.
Well yes, it would be his first time in a duel with a saber, and in fact you can see his fear as he barely knew how to block the attacks, although he did not know how to return the saber to the inquisitor, falling about 5 floors.
This is the *only* time I've ever seen an inquisitor utilize their lightsaber to its full extent. Like they always sit in the double-bladed mode and never spin unless they're slowly walking forward or something.
"That was a mistake." "Why? Because you have no one left to die for you?" *Ignites both lightsabers* "No. Because i have nothing left to fear." WHY IS KANAN SO COOL?! He's such an underrated Jedi...
This duel is so underrated, but I have to say my favourite part is when Kanan says he has found something stronger than fear and that quick of showing up general, fear and surprise grand inquisitor is just so satisfying 3:02
The Grand Inquisitor is elegant! Makashi is such a beautiful fighting form, it's as if he's dancing, if it was Dooku fighting these two they'd be dead in seconds.
Dooku was the best of the best when it came to using Makashi, at least within his lifetime. The Grand Inquisitor is certainly potent but if he was up against Dooku, who was THE master of Form II, he probably wouldn't last long.
The fact that Ezra survived his first lightsaber duel meant a lot to his training under Kanan, he is indeed been taught well by him down to a T. I'm super excited for the Ahsoka series in which they'll bring Ezra home to the galaxy.
You know what I realized? The Grand Inquisitor is voiced by Jason Isaachs, who also voiced Admiral Zhao in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Both of them duel their enemies atop a bridge, and when they’re defeated, they choose death rather than face the consequences of their failures. Even the endings of both shows’ season 1 finales are very similar-Vader’s introduction in the end brought the same ominous tone as when Azula was introduced.
I kind of took it as a sign of his negative character development, once he believed Ahsoka died and started using the Dark Side. His old lightsaber was a “childish weapon”, while he used an actual blaster and a normal lightsaber afterwards. Even after he mellowed out again, he already had the blade, so he didn’t try to change it.
Disagree tho it probably felt more consistent then early Clone Wars. We had some great eps and arcs alongside some very lesser episodes that showed the team was trying to find its footing.
Probably one of if not the most memorable scenes of the show. What an incredible show of animation skill, especially with the choreography. It's really truly astounding to watch, tenfold if you're a real Star Wars fan! Rebels did so many things right ❤

Don't you think our mystery friend has stakes too?" Hera challenged "After kicking me in the side you really think I'm going to trust you!" Ezra yelled at the Masked Man "Hera the little brat has a point." Zeb observed "Who are you calling a brat?" Ezra barked back "We don't have time for this! Imperials are coming in 30 seconds. @@RenaldyCalixte the way you play with cal in game is not canon to lore i mean are you gonna say that cal kestis is weak if you see a gameplay of my 97 year old grandmother playing the game?
I enjoyed the storytelling but I don’t think Kanan should have done well here. Yes inquisitors are deliberately weak, but this is the Grand inquisitor. He should be regularly getting duelling practice and should put up more of a fight than the other inquisitors who give Kanan trouble later in the series. And Kanan should be severely out of practice. While he may practice alone, up to this point he’d been keeping his lightsaber stored and split to hide his Jedi identity and potentially out of survivors guilt. The inquisitor even says that Kanan over-relies on 1 specific form, so he should be predictable. And considering the scarcity of Jedi after the purge, there’s a good chance that this is the first time he’s ever gotten his hands on a second lightsaber and duel-wielded before. Kanan should be totally outclassed. Also he just came out of a heavy period of torture and restraint. Then again, the spinning lightsabers are so gimmicky and the inquisitor left himself so open that maybe he really was just that incompetent. Ashoka gets that other inquisitor by the handle in Tales of the Jedi.
True. But then again, this Kanan went into second gear. He thought he lost Ezra, so he basically went into Jedi rage mode and he had two lightsabers, with one of em being a blaster. And considering how many times her face the GI, he's used to his tricks by now.
In this scene, after losing Ezra, he’s the strongest he’s ever been. His connection to the force in this scene is stronger than it’s ever been before, he is completely embodying the Light Side of the Force and the Jedi Code here. He’s able to sink into the Force here in a way he’ll never be able to repeat until Season 3. This is in-universe an outlier feat for him. Besides, he’s been improving all season, and the Grand Inquisitor said as much. The gap narrowed and narrowed with every duel they had, and combined with his strengthened connection here, he finally became the Grand Inquisitor’s equal.
I wish people could have the same feeling I have everytime I see this scene. The fact that Kanan feels the force stronger than the dark side, the fact that he serves as a protector to his apprentice, the FACT that he "mourned" Ezra, even for a few seconds and did not give into the dark side (temptation) is beyond my comprehension. Forever lives Master Dume!
Something to keep in mind, the fact that the great inquisitors light savers did not automatically turn off, demonstrates that he wasn’t well attuned with them.
I really liked Ezra's lightsaber, I gotta say it is one of the most unique lightsabers in SW. Evident here we can see it being used in such a versatile way, lightsaber mode for dueling and close quarter combat, whilst blaster mode to close in and keep the enemy in a defensive stance. Shame it was destroyed
I just read the first meeting of GI and Vader in the comics yesterday and Vader disarmed him with the EXACT SAME TRICK FIFTEEN YEARS EARLIER. No wonder he jumped, I wouldnt want to admit that I got got again to him either.
Did the animation team get shafted on the budget for this episode or something? Somehow, the animation seems REALLY stiff in this scene, like first season of The Clone Wars stiff.
Personally, the rebels' choreography is a thousand times better than the Disney trilogy, I love how they got creative when fighting with a blaster saber and a common saber

Honestly this whole fight he was on his A game and thought smarter not harder! Like he doesn't just start blasting at the Grand Inquisitor he makes sure to fake a charge first and get him off his guard

This is the best Upscaling ive ever seen
Never really processed how good kanan is at dual wielding sabers
The Grand Inquisitor really F'ed up tgat day.
This lightsaber duel is awesome
At last a lightsaber duel that might be worthy of my time
Watch maul and savage vs Palps. Prolly the best animated duel in all of Star Wars.
Already watched that like 2 years ago and it was an amazing duel
It's so cool how Kanan and Ezra Bridger fight.

Inquisitior had Vader flashbacks.
The moment the old padawan starts acting like a jedi knight!
1:53 2:00 That was so heroic! RIP Kanan Jarrus
This is the *only* time I've ever seen an inquisitor utilize their lightsaber to its full extent. Like they always sit in the double-bladed mode and never spin unless they're slowly walking forward or something.
"That was a mistake."
"Why? Because you have no one left to die for you?"
*Ignites both lightsabers* "No. Because i have nothing left to fear."
WHY IS KANAN SO COOL?! He's such an underrated Jedi...
This duel is so underrated, but I have to say my favourite part is when Kanan says he has found something stronger than fear and that quick of showing up general, fear and surprise grand inquisitor is just so satisfying 3:02
This whole scene goes so hard
At 0:21 inquisitor be like that light saber can shoot
Nah when Ezra picked up the light saber this turned into a Darth Maul Phantom Menace duel💀
but with more style >Bb🤘🏼, but now instead of the master "dying", the padawan got his turn
Gonna point out that the quality of this video is significantly better than on Disney+
Kanan is the best representation of a Jedi ever
Kanan kicked ass in this episode.
The fact that Ezra survived his first lightsaber duel meant a lot to his training under Kanan, he is indeed been taught well by him down to a T.
I'm super excited for the Ahsoka series in which they'll bring Ezra home to the galaxy.
No major spoilers but I hear Ezra may or may not do some crazy stuff. Kanan: number 1 Jedi teacher.
@@malachiphoniex8501 Ezra defeated Thrawn by using the Force to sense the future. It doesn't get crazier than that.
Cool and great Star Wars Rebels video part scene 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
“I never thought of that “ I thought that was the point 😂
1:20 attack of the clones refrence to when obi-one and Anaikin are chasing zam wessel the music is the exact same music in that part
Ngl this saber battle is my favorite in Star Wars Rebels on dopamine production in my mind hole.
Jason Isaacs is a brilliant actor.
But Admiral Zhao is a better character than Grand Inquisitor. And the Grand Inquisitor is a cheap dastard with no redeeming qualities.
Why didn’t Ezra keep that lightsaber, it was very unique, and even caught the Grand Inquisitor off guard
It seems to me that he was no longer really needed this type of lightsaber, since he soon had his own separate blaster.
Darth Vader destroyed that lightsaber in Twilight of the apprentice part 2.
I remember watching this back in 2015. Honestly the first season of Rebels is better than the first AND second season of Clone Wars imo.
I respectfully disagree
I disrespectfully agree with Ryan
I too, respectfully heavily disagree.
I'll grant that. TCW had some downright awful episodes early on, alongside the great ones.
Rebels did so many things right ❤
Kanan finally got to try out his apprentice's lightsaber with the stun gun setting.
Amazing
2:05 is what I would say about me and fear.
1:55 on the one hand the inquisitor is saying this to really get to kanan but on the other you can tell it's coming from a place of trauma and pain, as a former jedi seeing others dying to protect him and feeling guilt for living on
The most underrated star wars animation
We stick to the shadows and help who we can. That's worked for us for the last 3 years. What makes you think we'd fall apart if you spilled the beans?"
"I was testing you guys. This neighborhood is where I grew up. I haven't left it my entire life. You guys are outsiders. I will not allow criminals to prey upon those hurt by Imperial rule. If I'm going to trust someone they better be trustworthy."
"Speaking of trust why don't you start by telling us your name." Zeb growled barring his claws at the Masked Man
"What are you?"
"I'm a Lasat and Lasat are very dangerous when they're pissed off."
"Hey Zeb we haven't used our real names in a while because of the stakes involved. Don't you think our mystery friend has stakes too?" Hera challenged
"After kicking me in the side you really think I'm going to trust you!" Ezra yelled at the Masked Man
"Hera the little brat has a point." Zeb observed
"Who are you calling a brat?" Ezra barked back
"We don't have time for this! Imperials are coming in 30 seconds. We have a common enemy why don't we work together." Hera urged
"Hera's right. So mystery guy, what do you say?" Kanan asked
Looking how easily he was bested in battle and people out there saying cal kestis can’t beat the grand inquisitor 😂😂😂
Cal Kestis barely defeated the 9th sister. How is he gonna beat the Grand Inquisitor?
@@RenaldyCalixte barely? 😂 he was toying with her and wanted to bring her back to the light and when he couldn’t he just one-shot her

It's probably just a kid show but I like the fact that the lightsaber calderized his skin
This series should have been called: Star Wars: Plot Armor
1:53 0:58 2:02
Bro Kanan won against the grand inquisitor end of story 😂
2:15 ... So basicly Kanan just basicly saw Ezra fall a few... What, meters under AND was clearly visible from there point?
... I mean, that was...
Its such a dumb moment. Thankfully it doesn't quite undercut the cool factor of the rest of the duel.
@@AzelfandQuilavaEzra got hit in the face by a lightsaber. 😂
Something to keep in mind, the fact that the great inquisitors light savers did not automatically turn off, demonstrates that he wasn’t well attuned with them.
Darth Maul fighting Qui Gon and Obi Wan vibes.
Grand inquisitor💪💪💪💪💪
I just read the first meeting of GI and Vader in the comics yesterday and Vader disarmed him with the EXACT SAME TRICK FIFTEEN YEARS EARLIER. No wonder he jumped, I wouldnt want to admit that I got got again to him either.
I love the show good vs evil 😈 good win 🥇
I hit the 1000 like mark. 🔥
Good job you learned to count. 🔥
Still the best duel I've seen since Disney bought Star Wars.
Dude, Dookus stance at the beginning of a duel, just saying iykyk
Did the animation team get shafted on the budget for this episode or something? Somehow, the animation seems REALLY stiff in this scene, like first season of The Clone Wars stiff.
Like where? The choreography seems fine to me.
Fight animation is solid, perhaps you’re referring to the skill of the fight
Between a padawan and a Jedi temple guard
Budget is contained but the choreography is still great.
Rebels is underrated in general, whats more underrated are its lightsaber fights.
Personally, the rebels' choreography is a thousand times better than the Disney trilogy, I love how they got creative when fighting with a blaster saber and a common saber
Kanan was getting with that light saber and blaster combo
Some things are more frightening than death
3:52 I wonder what he meant by that
He meant about darth Vader and he doesn’t want to get tortured by him for his failure so he lets himself die.
Sith can do many thing worse than death, in the comics Vader is using his ghost to guard old jedi outpost .
