The two gym leader simulator romhacks I've seen are doing it wrong. You should have 9 teams each with a level cap that is chosen depending on the badges the challengers have. So it the challenger has no badges you bring out your first team which cant be over level 13 or something. If they have 8 badges you bring out your highest levelled team

Problem is that that's a lot of management for a player to do. Probably too much management.
Putting aside that that's not how gyms work in the real games, a player managing those teams would probably have to manage something in the range of 30-40ish pokemon. Actively. that'd not only kill the fun, but be just management hell.
Actually what I have to say about that general topic of
" gym leader pokemon's levels scaling to the amount of badges you have if you fight them not in order'
It is not much realistic
And even doing the strongest gym first as your first badge
There is nothing wrong with that
It just means that the other gyms will be too boring for you
And also it is harder work to scale the pokemons to like level 45 without doing the gym battles
@@Leafsw0rd they may not work like that in the games but it's how they work in the anime, they have different teams based on the badged the challenger has (and there are more that 8 gyms in the region, just think of gary with his 10 badges)
@@ronflypotato4242 there is an hack rom of crystal that it's kinda open world, you can challenge the gyms in which order you want (even start in kanto) and the teams scales based on the number of badges you have (and you can later rematch them on other badges level)
I don't think this game is for the "I only leveled my starter and spammed one STAB move to kill everything" types. You kind of have to set up and use strategy.
Also the developer is a sick man... he put himself in the game with three pokemon that know dragon rage... at lvl 25. Only fight that I needed to use items on.
Could've had a better chance against the Aipom if you just used Rock Polish.
Watching him battle was painful…
This game is pretty accurate compared to fire red XD, challengers overleveled, type advantages, bullying school kid npcs
I would've tried to use curse on Onyx once against Machop, start using rage and healing up when low.
The fight against Aipom, could've switch to Onyx immediately and start doing the same, stacking rage against Aipom and using Rock Tomb/Throw against Marill.
Curse on machop wouldn't have worked because machop used focus energy and would just crit through the stat buffs
@@swolehas1794 even if we ditch curse, I would still at least try to get rage stacks. May not win, but I think it's a better chance than spamming rock tomb.
I plan to add a player-rulable gym in my fangame, and I enjoy to see how different approaches can be. I studied This Gym of Mine a lot, but this is fresh!
