Maybe this concept isn't great for an actual game but I'd love to see some kind of "Gym Maker" in a new pokemon game. You would make your own "minigame" layout, place trainers by yourself, give them pokemon from your PC, make your own leader or fight as a leader and share the gym online.
i feel like them making this a spin off like pokemon stadium would be great because it wouldn’t be main line, it would have the battle sim, and probably be really fun
the one thing that this game needs is actual gym fighters in your gym that weed out the weak trainers, you know, just like how most gyms are. Could make it like a tower defense where you can customize the path to you, use AI to predict how battles will go and see if they defeat the fighters you pick.
If you can get promoted to the elite 4 that would make a perfect post game for a mainline game. Also world tournaments every now and then would be cool too
Great video. No intro, no trailers, just gameplay. I really liked that all games are tested and played before our eyes, this helped me pick a game immediately. Thanks 😍
Nooo way!!! I did not expect that ending lol such a strong boss. Dude your tempo, commentary, and floor were very entertaining and engaging. 30 minutes went by like nothing
I tried this game using ghost type. The beginning was not easy for me. There was one trainer that kept beating me and I had to over level and hunt down other types that could use shadow ball till I was farther in the game. There was also one trainer not in the gym that I had to keep avoiding early because they had a normal type and all my attacking moves were ghost 😅
@@SteelGnat I caught a gengar at night in the even badder lands area. I never used ghastly/haunter so I dont know what you have to do to evolve it. I honestly didnt use it much cause I already had a pretty good team by then.

You know, why hasn’t someone made an official version of this game? This is an awesome concept for Pokémon that’s been unexplored, kinda like getting to play the evil teams that exist in the universe.
No ones done it because its not all that interesting by itself in practice Ok as a side mode to play every now and then but if it was the only thing it gets pretty boring fast
@@NarumiButterflyIt could be good for postgame, basically like this but with only the stronger NPC trainers who have full teams and can beat the elite 4. Then have the former champion return to his hometown so you can still battle.
theoretical “thinking too much about pokémon logic” thing: after a certain point, if a gym leader is beat so many times, wouldn’t the pokémon league intervene and be like “hey….youre trash, what’s going on? youre really sending out a lvl 7 geodude and a lvl 9 onix?”
This is something that seems missing from this game - surely part of the point of having a gym is that *some* people should actually pass your challenge! I would like to have seen some exploration of the idea that yes, you should lose some proportion of your matches, but not while compromising the challenge your gym is offering, and in some way selecting the trainers that get their badge and get to progress to the next part of their journey.
@@sofieselnes477 Imagine if you got reputation gain for losing your first battle in the middle of a win streak, based on how good the opponent was designed to be. Make it clear you're doing your part in weeding out those who aren't ready for the big leagues while still allowing good trainers through.
I can't remember why but around 22 years ago when I played pokemon crystal there was this huge myth, that when you have beaten the game, you'd turn into a gym leader.
Man I remember playing Pokemon Black/White double matches with friends in high school and my Haxorus was a BEAST. They had no answer for him and he just refused to go down. Ever.
looks like a cool game, it seems like you need to spend more time exploring and def get some items over buildings (trainer battles give income too right?), are the tms on the ground places that could maybe have helped?
The concept is incredible, but I think it really needs to be worked out properly. More variation in trainers, access to more than just 1 TM, and just more optimatization.
Some cool ideas here. I hope Pokémon company is paying attention to these fan games. Imagine a main game where you’re a gym leader fighting for relevance and ultimately getting promoted to Elite Four??
Hey there! I absolutely loved the video and your commentary, it’s super cool to see this kind of a perspective on Pokémon games and I’m glad you delivered it well! Just one piece of criticism from me; with formats like these it would be super handy to have a day counter somewhere on-screen (you could always have the typical Pokemon overlay where it displays your current party, etc.). Otherwise, this is an amazing video! Keep up the good work 👍
I'd make a few changes to the game. I'd make a system that level caps your Pokemon depending on the "rank" of the trainer (1-8 badges). I'd also make it to where certain pokemon with higher base stats become use-able at certain ranks in your gym. I'd grant multiple TM options to represent your gym if possible. Also, I'd make it to where you could qualify to be an elite four member or even a champion. I'd want to expand map design, so you can make the town your own theme. I'd also have it to where you can customize your gym a bit and have Jr Gym members that the trainers face (as a way to filter out weaker trainers). You'd get passive rep, and the way it would work is depending on the quality of your trainee their would be a certain percent chance they would auto complete a trainer for you.
hope gamefreak made this series come in life after scarlet and violet. its awesome that you just manage gym and if unbeatable that we can manage poke league insane
Played through and completed the game. It feels like an Alpha game with real potential. Story is good, bit more content to break up the repetition would be great. I would replace the build your own city thing with customise your Gym. And if they could find a way for more interaction with your gym trainers then thats it would be done.
Yoooo I ALSO did Dragon types but I started with Deino and I managed to find a Charmander and was immediately able to teach it Dragon Claw. Did NOT know about the Dragon type Aron line, that was a nice catch on your part. Dragonite, Kommo-o, Dragapult, and Haxorus rounded out my team. Also I didn't lose to Edgar even though he had a Hydreigon of his own. Bliss came in clutch with training for sure. It's a very fun game and I highly recommend to all pokemon fans.

I like this concept as a change of pace with pokemon, work on when exactly the difficulty ramps up and add more variety in pokemon trainers who come challenge you, and you get a nice time sink to be real
you need to explore dude, i beat Edgar with less level under 30 days of the game with Psychic (was horrible, all the trainers had bite, assurance, Garchomp has Dark pulse and all the motorbikes had at least one dark type). And for sure spend money on healing items.
This is amazing! I thought I was the only person that really wanted a game where you can be a Gym leader! Of course I had no idea how to pull it off just sitting and waiting for others to come but they did in great style! Really awesome
Im in day 35 and getting level 50 opponents at gym + beaten Edgar at day 30... I think youre getting low level opponents because you do not explore the world at all and not meeting the stronger trainers in the wild... If you loose when youre kindnapped you get back to your "cell", fully healed + beaten gang members stay beaten. Only when you fight with Edgar its game over when you loose. I defeated him like on 10th try... (got to him with cca lvl 43 team, got to Blissey up to lvl 50) It was fun when you met hiker Paul, you can meet him in the wild at start of Badlands, and when you get to lvl 4 in gym his Tyraninar get to lvl 99 :D
This is a game that seems interesting in principle and boring in practice. This does not strike me as the kind of game meant to be a main binge game, more of a side thing to do. But I do find the idea of running a gym to be an interesting concept.
Here's a couple of early game tips if you want to play this game yourself since there aren't really any guides or anything for it. 1: Be careful about which type you choose. While its definitely tempting to pick a notoriously powerful type like Dragon or Psychic, you gotta remember that the early games for those types even in normal pokemon games, can be a nightmare. Here, that choice is especially neutering because you are locked into those types, and the areas to catch more are out of your league at the beginning of the game (25-30 when you are still in the teens). 2: Be aware of a potential softlock early game. Catch rates are pretty low in this game, and money is hard to come-by until you start getting decent leveled trainers coming to your gym. If you are really unlucky and waste a bunch of pokeballs or you get beaten by overworld trainers/pokemon too much, you can basically make the game unbeatable. This can happen with any starting type, but is especially easy to do with types like Dragon, Psychic or Steel because it can be hard to find more pokemon of those types that you can actually beat or catch, as well as it being difficult to find off-type pokemon who can learn your gym's signature move. In general, be really careful picking a type that is weak to Dark type, since the first story battle in the game is a dude using a poochyena, and it can really suck trying to beat that thing if its immune to or taking very little damage, from your signature move. 3:If you solve the riddle inside of the Psychic cave and advance all the way to the end of it and get out, you will find a lone house with a woman in it. Answer her questions carefully as she will give you a starter pokemon from which ever generation you choose based on your answers to her questions. That being said, it can be a pain if you choose certain types, as those starters can't learn your gym's signature move so they aren't usable at all in the challenge. 4: Most Pokemon you can choose as your starter are not available in the overworld if you don't choose them. This sucks a lot as some of the starters are pretty good. This also directly nerfs some other types, for example, if you choose Dragon, you will never be able to get a Kingdra or if you choose psychic, you will never be able to get a Gardevoir. A Steel Gym can never have Lucario because Riolu is a Fighting starter, a Water Gym can't get Lapras because its an Ice Starter, so forth and so on. 5: The best type is probably Ground. All Ground starters are pretty good, except Diglett, and it gets one of the best moves in the series, Earthquake, as its signature that basically every half-way decent pokemon in the game can learn, which also allows you to use Torterra from the woman in Tip 3 for coverage against water types, not to mention there's basically no grass type enemies in the game in general. Also the "Ground Type Area" is really easy to find and fairly close to the main hub so you don't have to worry about fighting level 30s with your level 14 phanpy or Hippopoptas to catch new pokemon (a big problem with some other types as mentioned before). 6: Set up your gym as soon as possible. The game won't let you do your first gym fights until you have three team members, which is kinda dumb since we see actual gym leaders only using one or two pokemon all the time. The faster you do this, the faster you can do actual story stuff. Even once you do this, money can be really tight because enemy trainers will still only be like level 5 or 6 until you beat like 10-15 of them, so money is gonna be super tight. Unless your team is really underleveled you shouldn't have to worry too much about soft-locking yourself from not being able to catch more pokemon, but you do have to be careful to not lose too many times in a row or its a Game Over if you are too weak. Better to overlevel than under. Once the Blissey Lady shows up, you are officially past the hard part of the game (hard as in you can accidentally soft-lock yourself and not hard as in the trainers being strong, there's some pretty nasty trainers near the end of the story lol). 7: The person you choose to represent your gym does something different. For example, if you choose the Gym Girl, you get more reputation faster and also get a free gym trainer (the gym boy who has a crush on her) but you will face those "better" trainers (the ones who randomly have stronger pokemon) more often with her. The Gym Boy will give you lower reputation growth, and the professional Gym guy (the Fresh Water dude you see in the actual games) will give you balanced growth. Finally, this game can be kinda tedious and grindy I'm sad to say. Basically everything I said above can be avoided with enough grinding and overleveling once you have 3 pokemon.
I actually did a dragon play through and I didn’t lose once when I got to egar, I actually caught a Jangmo-o as my 3rd pokemon and a axew as my second which I got really lucky to catch, I started with Gible and then got a Agron and a dreepy I also used a tyranatar, because my Garchomp had a jolly nature and sand veil once I got the blissey trainer unlocked I just grinded that and grinded Tms you can buy trs from another city if you use the vacation function
I did fairy and it was kinda rough having just my ralts in the beginning but I later found out you could catch more fairies towards the east of the city you're gym leader in and I soon managed to build a team that I like.
Another cool concept for a Pokemon game! I feel like this coulda been done a lot better but, it's still pretty cool and you can see its a good starting point for what future romhacks/fangames could do with the concept

They should create a way to have champions in the pokemon game of Scarlet and Violet. Have a way for battles to commence and a new challenger arrives to take the throne. Have it for VGC and also Singles. A set time will arrive so the champion has to be ready to defend his or her crown. Arrange it in a way that it can be possible and they can enjoy an elite four format in the game. But among real life players.
I’m totally expecting there to eventually be a trainer rolling up with level 20s to your rank 0 gym all made to counter whatever type you chose later down the line
This would drive me nuts. This is a survival game essentially (if you wanted to be an undefeated gym leader that is) and you are just thrown garbage evs the entire time despite having an excellent starter and great choices for mons. As I watch you get in around the late 40s with your team you kept, I can see you suffer from lack of attack because all the HP Evs plus the random ones you fought. Would be nice to choose what Blissey gives you.
This would make for an awesome pokemon game. Imagine a mix of Animal Crossing's citybuilding and recruiting, with Persona's social aspects. Could be pretty awesome with a focus on progression and customization
You can change in every member of your team vs a single blissey and they all get 4-5 digit XP. Also 2x building 4 to 1x building five maxes out your daily earnings. Don't need any other building type.
Warning because I lost all my progress because of this- which is simply to MAKE SURE YOU SAVE. Why? If you lose a certain battle, it reverts you to your *last save*. Saving some headache for new players
Dark is super rough. You can't really access the area with Dark pokemon until you get to the badlands. I was running a Mawile for the longest time with my starter.

1:01 "You gave 40 dollars to the winner" lmao it's just a wild rattata. Who would give money to a random pokemon to flee
Maybe this concept isn't great for an actual game but I'd love to see some kind of "Gym Maker" in a new pokemon game.
You would make your own "minigame" layout, place trainers by yourself, give them pokemon from your PC, make your own leader or fight as a leader and share the gym online.
Not for a main series, but a spin off definitely, kind of like a harvest moon game were you go day by day to build your farm, in this case your city.
Like Omega Rubys Hidden Bases?
i feel like them making this a spin off like pokemon stadium would be great because it wouldn’t be main line, it would have the battle sim, and probably be really fun
@@Sunaki1000 Exactly what I was thinking. Loved that mechanic in my Alpha Saphire copy!
Yeah this kind of reminds me of the secret bases my friends and I used to make back in ORAS
the one thing that this game needs is actual gym fighters in your gym that weed out the weak trainers, you know, just like how most gyms are. Could make it like a tower defense where you can customize the path to you, use AI to predict how battles will go and see if they defeat the fighters you pick.
You’d get passive income from that too
The trainers could also weaken trainers so when they reach you, their Pokémon are missing some HP.
You _literally_ never stopped talking for thirty one minutes. I'm not even mad, I'm pretty impressed honestly.
that killed the vibe tbh, rambling with 0 speech spoiling everything
I mean it's edited that way...
If you can get promoted to the elite 4 that would make a perfect post game for a mainline game. Also world tournaments every now and then would be cool too
"You cannot use more than 3 pokemon"
Oh so we're an X/Y gym leader huehuehuehuehue
HDvee: I don't have money for potions
Also HDvee 4 seconds earlier: I donate potions every day
Great video. No intro, no trailers, just gameplay. I really liked that all games are tested and played before our eyes, this helped me pick a game immediately. Thanks 😍
This really makes you realize even gym leaders go through the typical 9-5 workday. They have to make time for themselves
Which is crazy since a lot of gym leaders have side jobs
Maybe it doesn't pay as well as our 10 year old player character's believe? Like elementary school teachers tbh fml😢
This is just what it feels like to be placed on the ai trainers side as the player gets infinite healing items
Did you have to do something to get a gengar
@@SteelGnat I caught a gengar at night in the even badder lands area. I never used ghastly/haunter so I dont know what you have to do to evolve it. I honestly didnt use it much cause I already had a pretty good team by then.
Which emulator did you use
I actually did choose Ghost as well, and you're screwed if you fought the early trainers since All I had was Duskull Astonish... That does absolutely nothing to normal/flying type. On the plus side the first time I fought the Hiker in badlands he only had Trash.

Joiplay works good on Android
You know, why hasn’t someone made an official version of this game? This is an awesome concept for Pokémon that’s been unexplored, kinda like getting to play the evil teams that exist in the universe.
No ones done it because its not all that interesting by itself in practice
Ok as a side mode to play every now and then but if it was the only thing it gets pretty boring fast
@@NarumiButterflyIt could be good for postgame, basically like this but with only the stronger NPC trainers who have full teams and can beat the elite 4. Then have the former champion return to his hometown so you can still battle.
theoretical “thinking too much about pokémon logic” thing:
after a certain point, if a gym leader is beat so many times, wouldn’t the pokémon league intervene and be like “hey….youre trash, what’s going on? youre really sending out a lvl 7 geodude and a lvl 9 onix?”
I’m kinda amazed that you didn’t use shift gear with aggron while Edgar was heal spamming there
Same actually
This actually triggered me. He wouldn’t have been flinched at all if he had used it just once
Lol I got so triggered seeing that like why aren't you using Shift Gear
Some cool ideas here. I hope Pokémon company is paying attention to these fan games. Imagine a main game where you’re a gym leader fighting for relevance and ultimately getting promoted to Elite Four??
They Pasing Attention. They come Claim and shut the fangames down
@@egegege-e7g lol. Good point.
What's the game name?

Yoooo I ALSO did Dragon types but I started with Deino and I managed to find a Charmander and was immediately able to teach it Dragon Claw.

You missed out on a few opportunities to Shift Gear boost your Aggron in that final battle.
HE MISSED PLENTY OF SHIFT GEARS MORE THAN THAT BATTLE LMFAOO
you need to explore dude, i beat Edgar with less level under 30 days of the game with Psychic (was horrible, all the trainers had bite, assurance, Garchomp has Dark pulse and all the motorbikes had at least one dark type). And for sure spend money on healing items.
I think this could be a good basis for a SimCity/farm simulator spinoff if they ever decided to make one.
This is amazing! I thought I was the only person that really wanted a game where you can be a Gym leader!
Of course I had no idea how to pull it off just sitting and waiting for others to come but they did in great style!
Really awesome
The game crashed a ton for me to the point where I couldn't realistically continue playing but I had a ton of fun making a sand steel team.
That “ let me use this potion and soda pop “ had me rolling😂
Dude literally replaced protect with glare 💀
☠️
I'm sorry but the floating old man made me laugh so much.
(got to him with cca lvl 43 team, got to Blissey up to lvl 50)
It was fun when you met hiker Paul, you can meet him in the wild at start of Badlands, and when you get to lvl 4 in gym his Tyraninar get to lvl 99 :D
Great work on your 100 days! Only 7600 more hours untill you become a certified professional!
I can confirm this hackrom is cool, just don't use normal types because the encounter list is terrible (you only have one special attacker in drampa)
Lol and here i am the idiot that chose Normal. Just wanted the Eevee.
Job instructions: “As the town’s gym leader, your job is to ruin kids’ dreams.”
This is repetitive, but it's such a breath of fresh air to the regular pokemon grind
That Aron at 9:15 was shiny!
That’s what I came here to say lol
This looks rather interesting to try, if I have to pick, it would either be electric, flying or ghost
ice type would be hardcore
I did fairy and it was kinda rough having just my ralts in the beginning but I later found out you could catch more fairies towards the east of the city you're gym leader in and I soon managed to build a team that I like.
24:55 summed up my first play through of moon with my chargeabug against the ground kahoona with her mudstail
Another cool concept for a Pokemon game! I feel like this coulda been done a lot better but, it's still pretty cool and you can see its a good starting point for what future romhacks/fangames could do with the concept
That old man isn’t an old man! It’s TOM NOOK WITH AN OLD MAN COSTUME ON WHEELS! You have to leave before he has you in indentured servitude!
