It always amazes me the sheer amount of work Tezuka did. To this day there's still old, obscure material coming up that nobody seemed to know nothing about. 😀
*sees thumbnail*: skeptical 🤨
*sees who it is about*: PLEASED 😀
My favorite. Wow. Thank you for this! 🤯👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The Buddha book kind of changed my life.
My favorite Tezuka is the Phoenix saga.. I'm reading Vol 10 of Astroboy right now and its great. The "modern look" of most manga and anime is not to my taste at all, but that 60s Tezuka/Ishinomori style is perfect.
Just like the great late J Dilla, the man just wanted to work on his deathbed. That's dedication.
Manben did a special episode on Tezuka, where Naoki Urasawa and Tezuka's assistant at the time looking at Tezuka's original page. its really fascinating conversation and it's so funny because the way they analyze the pages just like cartoonist kayfabe.
Earlier in the year, I read the Dororo omnibus. It is exceptional. My favorite Tezuka so far.
Manga before Tezuka would be a great video
That would be the day. Considering that their not to much translated but still very interesting to now more about it
Awesome shout out to Urusawa and the upcoming Netflix Pluto anime! Tezuka is incredible. Wow
Hey! I actually own this book! Got it on clearance or something from Capital City Dist. (I think) way baxck in the early 2000s. Haven't looked at it in a long time.
35:31 Shigeru Mizuki died on Nov. 2015 at age 93.
BTW, I know some japanese monographs full of original art (Tezuka, Mizuki, Yoshiharu Tsuge, Jiro Taniguchi...) that could be used for episodes. Some of them are cheap but small size.
Paul Kirchner’s anthology “Awaiting the Collapse” !!
Would you guys ever do a commentary on that Tezuka documentary?
It would be cool if you guys talked about Metropolis one time. That is a really innovative and interesting book.
Everyone, kneel!
Modok... got a good chuckle there, especially with my own lack of sleep. Great insight into Tezuka, who I shamefully admit I was not familiar with until just now.
Great overview of a master and god of comics, I am looking forward to your review of Adolf.
I liked seeing Bagi The Monster Of Mighty Nature, some early kemono art, alot of good stuff in this episode, might have to check out that Ayako manga
Also look at Anime UK magazine & Hayao Miyazaki: Master of Animation by Helen McCarthy.
I would love to see you guys review Kenichi Sonoda (Gunsmith Cats).
Very cool 😎 video, guys! Got into Astro Boy B&W cartoon on my local UHF channel back in the early 70’s ! Along with Prince Planet & Tobor, the 8th man cartoons and of course Ultra Man and Godzilla! When Eclipse and First comics started to intro American readers to imported manga! Tezuka was definitely an inspiration to Scott McCloud for Zot! It is a big world 🌎 and I love manga and anime as much as traditional American comics! Keep reading and making comix!👍🎯😎🙏👋
Well said Dwayne!
Love this book
Awesome! I just pulled out some of my ASTRO BOY books recently. What a talent!
I have that one! Great book!!!
That was interesting.
Watch you go through "Ayako" someday would be amazing ! ^.^ I saw it on the bookshelf -- so I know you own it !
"A Tree in the Sun" is also an underrated book by Tezuka-sensei but I don't think it was published in the USA.
My favorite Tezuka books is Buddha. It is a epic
I wish tezuka got a bit more respect in the US. Dude was super influential and you really can’t overstate his importance.
The kickstarters on one hand are good but on the other you often have a one month window to actually realize it’s happening. I would much rather prefer on-going publishing rather than one run type stuff for such an important comic artist.
With the wedding of Emma frost happening right now, I’d love to see a look into her first appearance in Uncanny x-men 129
Raised in the glow of digital devices, today's teens will never get to be this talented on paper
we will never see one like him again in our time
You need to give us a review of MW. 34:22 An adult thriller from the 70s featuring themes that were so far ahead of its time. Outrageous action that does not disappoint. A layered antagonist that keeps you constantly surprised. All from the master Tezuka showing us that he can also make a mature engaging story. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MW_(manga)
